[Bug 350598] Re: Fails to start VM after Jaunty upgrade: Failed to add tap interface 'vnet%d' to bridge 'virbr%d'

2009-03-29 Thread Thierry Carrez
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 231060 ***

Apparently I had dnsmasq running which prevented virbr0 setup. Probably
a leftover of some test... properly purging dnsmasq solved the issue.
Please ignore the noise, that would be a duplicate of bug 231060.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 231060

[Bug 340383] Re: dhcpd sends 127.0.1.1 as DNS server

2009-03-29 Thread Wowbagger
I have seen this as well.

In my case what is happening is this:

1) I have one interface which is dynamically assigned via DHCP (upstream to my
ISP)
2) I have a second interface which is statically assigned (my local LAN
interface).
3) I have a local name server (for caching and for local name resolution).
4) I have /etc/network/interfaces configured to statically assign the local
interface, and to set the name server for the local interface to 127.0.0.1, so
that when %#@()*$ network manager OVERWRITES THE /etc/resolv.conf file I SET
UP it will at least overwrite it correctly for the local machine.
5) HOWEVER, the same entity that is overwriting /etc/resolv.conf is also
overwriting /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf and setting the nameserver to 127.0.0.1,
which is then served out to the network clients.

FIRST OF ALL: There should be a way I can tell the network manager
scripts I have configured these files - LEAVE THEM THE HELL ALONE!

Second of all, the scripts should be smart enough to detect a
nameserver of 127.0.0.1 and NOT set DHCPD to do that.

[Bug 351254] [NEW] Need version bump - 2.1.11 broken with Python 2.6

2009-03-29 Thread spellegrin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mailman

Various Mailman modules call get_type() on email message instances. That
function has been deprecated for quite a while and is now *gone* from
Python 2.6. The fix is to replace every call in every module with
get_content_type(). Mailman 2.1.12 has this change, along with other
Python 2.6 fixes.

I found this in the Jaunty beta.

I also have same problems like above.

The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action,

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.

files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the

Looks like the new libphp5.so is not compiled properly. This was working

[Bug 350724] Re: (jaunty) No sound in Xubuntu

2009-03-29 Thread Jacob
I don't know what just happened but after installing pulseaudio (no
commands or reboot) my sound worked and all is fine. I've attached a
bunch of screenshots of my xfce4-mixer configuration and my tray. I
think after the whole time the volume was just at 0% even though in the
mixer I set it to 80%. ???

There is a whole bunch of new sound devices in the list when there used
to only be HDA Intel and Realtek ACL268. The new ones all have
pulseaudio somewher in their name. You can see this in one of the

[Bug 350745] [NEW] Solved bugs are still hanging around as default

2009-03-29 Thread Blempis
Public bug reported:

About Bug #95886 Nicolay Korslund wrote on 2008-05-03: (permalink)

I found a quick workaround myself,
$ setxkbmap no

(here 'no' means Norwegian, not the opposite of 'yes'. Use eg. 'fi' for
Finish.) This works like a charm, so it's strange that the automatic
layout configuration fails.

So I tried it and yes, it worked like a charm, this 'fi' in my case.
This leads me to conclusion that there are presumably several other old
bugs which has a solution but for some reason they are still not fixed.
If this is the case it is quite obvious why some problems are still
there year after year. For example, bug #95886 is now two years old. I
use ubuntu 64-bit 8.04.

[Bug 350743] [NEW] url escape codes not recognized correctly in host

2009-03-29 Thread Chris Cowan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox version 3.0.8

EDIT: Shorter version.
If you click this link: http://%E2%9E%A1.ws/%E3%AD%8E : Firefox will say it
couldn't find the server. If you click in the address bar, and press enter, it
will load the page correctly.

ORIGINAL:
I've got a short unicode-heavy URL - http://➡.ws/㭎 . (This URL was generated by
http://www.tinyarro.ws - it's a similar idea to tinyurls.com, just a lot
shorter. Btw this one just links to a funny article at TheOnion.)

I noticed when I linked to it, if I highlighted it and viewed the
selection source, it would say href=http://%E2%9E%A1.ws/%E3%AD%8E;. But
if I simply right-clicked anywhere else and viewed page source, it would
be href=http://➡.ws/㭎; as it was originally.

I noticed if you copy+pasted http://%E2%9E%A1.ws/%E3%AD%8E; into the
address bar, Firefox would say that the URL wasn't found. Pressing enter
a second time would bring you to the page correctly.

That doesn't seem like a serious problem, but then I tried making the
original URL a link on a WordPress website. Apparently WordPress parsed
the link before serving Firefox the html - when I viewed the page
source, it would say href=http://%e2%9e%a1.ws/%E3%AD%8E;. If I clicked
the link, I'd have the same problem as I had before when I copy-pasted
the escaped code into the URL. It would only recognize it the second
time.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 350734] Re: ark crashed while creating a file

2009-03-29 Thread Jon Charge
Hi. No problem. :) I want to reproduce your bug so I need to know...
how exactly you were creating / compressing the file. Did you right
click on a file on the desktop and compress it there, or did you open
ark manually and do it form within ark? I need the step by step so it
can be reproduced.

Thanks again,

Jon

[Bug 343640] Re: kdenlive 0.7.2.1 save file : core dumped

2009-03-29 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
it still happens as of today's jaunty (2009-03-29).

it's mentionned in kdenlive's forums:
http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/ubuntu-jaunty-jackalope-alpha-cannot-save-project

the answer from the developers on the forum about that issue is:

There was a bug in Kdenlive that caused a crash with Qt 4.5 on document
saving. It was fixed in svn, so you can either try to compile the latest
svn or wait for Kdenlive 0.7.3 which I hope to release somtimes in
april.

I hope ubuntu upgrades the package before release or it won't be very
useful if it crashes when saving the project :-(

Same grievance here. Whenever the pointer is accidentally over the

unusable (at least, obviously to a lot of people) and it should be
possible to disable it.

Re: [Bug 317127] Re: evtouch calibrate tool does not detect mouse position

2009-03-29 Thread Daniel Sandlian
The PPA package fixed the mouse position problem, however, there is still a
problem in that it only accepts taps and nothing else. For example, cell
writer is only accessible through the built in keyboard because writing
doesn't work. web browsing is difficult because slider bars can't be slid.
And there is no ability to drag-and-drop. Can anyone else confirm this
problem? Is this an evtouch problem or should I send it elsewhere?

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2009-03-29 Thread TJ
Jarkko, the log you attached was not generated by the debug version of
the driver. When the debug version is in use its version string has a
'd' added. For example:

Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux 1.3.27kds

To enable the debug output you'll need to read the man-page I created
for the DKMS package:

man iwlwifi

That explains three methods of setting the module's debug parameter:

1. At boot-time
2. At module load
3. Whilst the module is loaded

No, there's nothing you can or need to do right now. When there's a

[Bug 77734] Re: Disk Read Errors during boot-time caused by probe of invalid partitions

2009-03-29 Thread TJ
Compiled from git - oh *grins* ... there are mainline kernels available
as packages:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Write Protect is off is a drive status message and the expected value
- if you want to actually write data to the drives at some point :)

The messages are expected since at the point the disks are scanned
dmraid hasn't loaded and so the 'plain' disks do appear to have
problems.

One thing that interests me is the sdd: p1 size 1250258562 limited to
end of disk because the kernel keeps track of all partitions and so it
may store an 'incorrect' entry. With the 2.6.29 kernel can you report
this output after dmraid has loaded:

cat /proc/partitions

[Bug 350767] [NEW] New Notification Icon disappears at random, no way to access pidgin.

2009-03-29 Thread Chorca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

Ubuntu Jaunty, latest updates as of the report.

Pidgin's new icon using the indicator-applet (white letter) seems to disappear
at times randomly. You can be using the machine normally, then look up to find
that it's disappeared. Pidgin is still running in the background, as ps ax will
show and it will not allow you to run another instance (just gives the wait
cursor and then goes back to normal, does not raise buddy list or replace icon)
This requires a kill command to be used on the process, then restarting pidgin
to gain access to it again. I don't know for sure if this is an
indicator-applet issue or not, as I haven't seen any crashes pop up about
either.
I haven't seen a particular behavior yet that causes it, but I will monitor the
issue.

[Bug 350766] [NEW] Screen freezes using desktop effects except mouse

2009-03-29 Thread juhuu
Public bug reported:

Hi

I am testing jaunty beta for 2 days now.
When I enable Kwin desktop effects the screen randomly freezes after some time,
only the mouse can still be moved.
It looks like the screen is just not refreshed while system is still running,
only way to shut down is by pressing pwr off button, system then shuts down
normally.

The problem mostly appears when new windows are beeing opened, ie when
browsing for files etc.. .

Looks very similar to this bug here (just using kwin instead of compiz):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/332549

graphic card: ATI X1400 mobility M54

If there are any log files to post, let me know :-)

[Bug 350772] [NEW] [Jaunty Beta] playing MMS / .ASX with totem needs manual install of codec package

2009-03-29 Thread Sander Jonkers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

On Jaunty Beta, Ubuntu will not automatically find the codes for MMS /
ASX content: errors will occur and content will not be played.

Workaround: manual install of package Gstreamer plugins for mms,
wavpack, quicktime, ... via Add/Remove.

Real solution: totem / Ubuntu should install automagically.

Long description

totem can not automatically play the MMS / ASX content
http://www.omroep.nl/live/thema/nos_journaal24-bb.asx;.
FWIW: vlc does play this URL.

Ubuntu tries to find a codec, but fails:

The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install
suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that
supports the selected file?
The search will also include software which is not officially supported.
After clicking on Search, I get the message:

No packages with the requested plugins found
The requested plugins are:
Microsoft Media Server (MMS) protocol source

I have enabled all software sources: main, universe, restricted,
multiverse.

[Bug 350780] [NEW] Internal error starting virtual network 'default'

2009-03-29 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virt-manager

I am using Jaunty amd64 with all updates (2009-03-29).

If I create a new VM using the “localhost (User)” connection, I am not
presented with any networking options, and cannot use anything other
than userspace networking.

If I add myself to the libvirtd group and create a new VM using the
“localhost (System)” connection, I can choose between “Virtual network”
and “Shared physical device”. Since all of the shared physical devices
in the menu are grayed out with “(Not bridged)”, my only option is
“Virtual network”, and the only network I can select is “default
(Inactive)”.

If I then click “Forward”, I get this dialog box:

Virtual Network is Inactive
Virtual Network 'default' is not active. Would you like to start the network
now?
[No] [Yes]

Upon clicking “Yes”, I receive this error:

Uncaught error validating input: internal error 'brctl setfd virbr%d 0' exited
with non-zero status 1 and signal 0: set forward delay failed: No such device
Details:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/share/virt-manager/virtManager/create.py, line 302, in forward

libvirtError: internal error 'brctl setfd virbr%d 0' exited with non-zero
status 1 and signal 0: set forward delay failed: No such device

Perhaps this is a bad interaction with
libvirt-0.6.1/debian/patches/dynamic_bridge_names.patch, which
introduces the virbr%d syntax?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Ubiquity reported a segmentation fault during installation. I noticed
that because apport popped up asking me to report the crash, but then
complained that the crashing application did not belong to any packages.

In the syslog it says Core dumped, but I could not find the core file.
Where should it be?

I was testing the the 9.04 beta iso.
I believe the installation went all good, now I'll reboot.

2009-03-29 Thread Rolf Leggewie
gourmet should be compatible with 0.5 since 0.14.5-1

 gourmet (0.14.5-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * new upstream release
   * 0.14.5 no longer conflicts with newer versions of python-pysqlite and
 python-sqlalchemy. Relax dependencies accordingly.
   * all patches have been pushed upstream, so they can be dropped in Debian.
The manpage was forgotten when preparing the tarball upstream, so it
will stick around for another release.

[Bug 350523] Re: Policy violation - Conflicts: nautilus-cd-burner

2009-03-29 Thread Savvas Radevic
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: brasero

Since no clear reason was added in the changelog, I believe that
Conflicts: nautilus-cd-burner was added due to this announcement:
  http://mail.gnome.org/archives/devel-announce-
  list/2009-January/msg6.html

Namely, brasero is replacing nautilus-cd-burner feature-wise, but no files
seem to be overwritten!
Using Conflicts in this situation is regarded as a policy violation and the
Conflicts: nautilus-cd-burner should be removed.
nautilus-cd-burner and brasero can co-exist until nautilus-cd-burner (in
universe repository?) is not supportable anymore.

- As ScottK has suggested in IRC, the nautilus-cd-burner/brasero
- replacement should be a rule issued for update-manager,

[Bug 350788] [NEW] Hibernate AND suspend/resume failure on Gateway M-6862 laptop (Non-free kernel module: fglrx, ATI R6xx graphics card)

2009-03-29 Thread dnyaga
Public bug reported:

Apport was unable to send an automatic bug report (I am behind a
proxy). However, I will attach by hand most of what it would have sent
anyway. But first, a description of the problem:

DistroRelease: 9.04
Package and machine architecture: amd64, linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic
2.6.28-11.38
Machine: Gateway M-6862

Suspend:

The machine appears to suspend fine. On wake-up, it goes right up to the
appropriate password prompt (unlock screen) then freezes there. The mouse is
responsive, but I cannot get keyboard focus to enter the password. Previously,
on this same machine, the screen would lock up completely on resume. I cannot
recall the exact kernels that behaved this way. This happens regardless of
whether I suspend from the GNOME menus or from the command line. (WAKE UP
FAILURE)

Early in the jaunty development cycle (around alpha-4: I cannot recall
exactly when), I ran with the -radeon open source driver. Suspend and
resume worked fine (after I had disabled atieventsd). I ran Intrepid to
late January, still with fglrx as my graphics driver. Suspend/resume
worked then. My memory fails me a little here: If I recall right, the
suspend/resume only started working after I manually installed a newer
version of ATI Catalyst from amd.com in January: with the catalyst in
the ubuntu repos, it did not.

Hibernate:
--
Hibernate has NEVER worked on this machine. Not in Intrepid, not in Jaunty. I
will describe the current symptoms, present since I moved to 9.04 alphas in
January. On hibernate, the kernel panics. I have attached a digital photo of my
screen. The panics are reproducible 10/10 (tested by repeatedly suspending and
resuming).

The following may be slightly unusual about my machine:
- I am running ext4. Initially, my ext4 partitions were converted from ext3.
However, while attempting to define the exact circumstances under which some
ext4 freezes occured (on other launchpad bugs), I dropped and recreated the
data partitions from scratch. So, I now have 3 native ext4 partitions and 1
converted partition (/).
- I have 2 swap partitions (side effects of evicting Windows Vista bit by bit).
Between them, they are more than twice as large as my RAM. Initially, I had a
single swap partition of 5059 MB (RAM 4GB). However, once, while mucking
through the log files, I thought I saw a message to the effect that hibernate
aborted because of inadequate swap space. I could not expand the existing swap
partition, so I created a new one.

suspend_test script
--
I ran this script. (/usr/share/checkbox/suspend_test)
- In test 1 (suspend then wake up after 20 seconds), the machine suspended but
did not wake up
- When I woke it up manually, I got the unresponsive login screen described
above

Is fglrx the culprit?

Probably. Given the number of fglrx related complaints on Launchpad now. But,
before I condemn it, I will switch to the open source drivers and test
hibernate and suspend again (after posting this message).

I will also attach an fglrx-related kernel oops that I have consistently
gotten every time I have booted in the recent past. This is for purposes
of context only - Apport's automated bug reporting has already resulted
in a rash of this particular oops on Launchpad by now.

[Bug 350780] Re: Internal error starting virtual network 'default'
