[Bug 344508] Re: [TOSHIBA Satellite M40] suspend/resume failure

2009-03-29 Thread Mimue
Hi Leann,

Here is the information:

My system is right now (on 2009-03-29) up to date for Jaunty. The
problem still occurs.

The problem happens during waking up after a Suspend. The falling into
sleep seems to work properly, meaning that at the end the Power-LED is
slowly blinking.

The problem is quite good reproducible. I say quite good, because I
also had a successful suspend/resume sequence on my system yesterday.
Just before the successful Suspend I did a successful Hybernate.

[Bug 260021] Re: kompozer-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in nsTimerImpl::Fire()

2009-03-29 Thread 3vi1
@John: Yeah, I'm seeing the same thing with the most current 9.04 and
komposer. It immediately crashes without so much as opening a window.
It's totally borked.

Can someone *please* delete the package from the repos until such time
as there is a working version? The current one's going to do nothing
but frustrate people. 39 people cared enough to come here and opened
duplicate bugs - there's no telling how many people actually ran into
the problem and just gave up.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

[Bug 350946] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 beta 64-bit desktop fails to boot from usb-stick

2009-03-29 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

There were no problems to boot ubuntu 9.04 alpha 6 64-bit desktop from
usb stick for me, but the beta fails.

At first everything seems to be normal, till the boot splash appears.
Than there are multiple HDD actions (on my internal HDD, not on the USB-
stick).

Using alt + F1 I get the following error message:

modprobe: FATAL: Could not load
/lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory

After waiting some time (about one or two minutes) without any changes I
come to a console. The file mentioned in the error message is available
from that console.

Thanks for trying to solve that issue.

What other information I can provide you with?

[Bug 285746] Re: System cleaner removes explicitly installed third-party packages

I've always used Synaptic Package Manager for this purpose. One thing it
does, is separate 'local or obsolete' from 'auto removable'. Can/does CJ
do this?

A further thought is the 'residual config' that Synaptic provides. This
would be a good addition for CJ. Perhaps you should have some buttons to
switch between the different types of cruft to remove.

and cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

[Bug 309021] Re: firefox and abrowser metapackages should have same version dependencies

2009-03-29 Thread Hew McLachlan
This bug is about the lack of a same version dependency for the
metapackages. That is, it's currently possible to have firefox 3.0.8
+nobinonly-0ubuntu2 installed at the same time as firefox-3.0 3.0.7
+nobinonly-0ubuntu2. I don't think this is an intentional situation.

I would expect the firefox 3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu2 metapackage to have the
following dependencies:
firefox-3.0 (=3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu2)
firefox-3.0-branding (=3.0.8+nobinonly-0ubuntu2)

I mentioned abrowser only because the situation equally applies there
too, not because there is a bug with one but not the other.

This is a bug of low importance, but I still think it's a bug.

[Bug 350956] [NEW] Rename Computer Janitor

2009-03-29 Thread phenest
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: computer-janitor

'Computer Janitor' makes it sound a very general application, and gives users
the idea that it should do other things, such as empty the recycle bin.
Computer Janitor is a very specific application that deals with unwanted
packages only.
I Suggest renaming it to 'Package Janitor'. There are probably others too. I
think this is much more descriptive and there would be less confusion.

[Bug 350955] [NEW] cpufreq-applet: cpu scaling starts always with performance should be ondemand

2009-03-29 Thread Robert Entner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

On Intrepid the cpu frequency scaling was set to ondemand after
reboot. In Janty beta it is now performance. Is this on purpose? Then
it should at least respect my last setting before shutdown.

On multi-core I have to change the scaling on each cpu separately. On
Intrepid changing CPU0 to ondemand changed the behavior on both -
which I find more reasonable.

[Bug 349535] Re: gdm crashing randomly while unattended

2009-03-29 Thread MarianoAbsatz
Thanx for your answer, Bryce.

I'm ssh'ing from home now and I see that friday night it happened again
(I left the pc logged it and with a regular bunch of apps running just
for testing).

I'm attaching Xorg.0.log. Below is also the output of lspci.

Regarding the backtrace, I'll install the packages with the debug
symbols and leave again the pc logged in.

I have a couple of questions, though... since it seems I can't force
this to happen other than waiting it happens during the night (or a
long unattended period).

Should I launch gdb from another computer or will it suffice if I run it
from a text console like tty1 or tty2?

Here's `lspci -vvnn`:

[Bug 292256] Re: backlight failed after suspend to ram on IBM X40

2009-03-29 Thread japi
Thank you for confirming my solution.

I think the problem will be solved at the root now and soon no workarounds will
be necessary anymore (afaik).
Please have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/beta#Suspend/resume%20testing
The Kernel Team seems to be dealing with issues regarding suspend/resume now.

But personally i find it a little frustrating, that we already had
worked out a solution (inclusive .debdiff provided by Chow Loong Jin -
hyperair) and it did not find its way into ubuntu...

Let's hope it gets fixed this time :-)
(I will run the tests on my laptop in the next days)

[Bug 344508] Re: [TOSHIBA Satellite M40] suspend/resume failure

2009-03-29 Thread Mimue
And continuing with my information gathering...:

Today I wasn't able to resume successfully from a suspend. I always had
to switch off power manually forced. I also had a blinking CAPSLOCK lamp
after a resume trial, but only one time so far. Normally I have to push
the power-button for about 5s in order to switch off the power and cause
a system reset. Sometimes even this doesn't work and I'll have to remove
the battery.

Hybernate still works properly.

The Suspend works very fast, a estimate about 4 to 5s. When I trigger a
resume by pressing the power button then it takes only about 2 s and the
system hangs.

When I then force a power-off and restart my system, a crash report is
indicated for reporting to Launchpad. One of these reports is this one.

There is no sdb. This is a laptop with a single drive, and no CDROM.

Interestingly, on this same laptop on a different hard drive, I have

and this problem does not occur there.

Yes, this is still a live bug.

[Bug 347902] Re: Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-03-29 Thread jack bakunin
temporary remedy :

- kill the process hald

- identify the device with ls -lah /dev/disk/by-label , will display
something like this :
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 160 2009-03-29 13:50 .
  drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 120 2009-03-29 13:51 ..

  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2009-03-29 13:42 xubuntuG - ../../sda4

- mount your device :
  sudo mkdir /media/walkman
  sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /media/walkman

- done

ok, the problem it's bigger; as i said this is just a temporary remedy
to access to your player.

[Bug 344022] Re: RaLink RT2860 won't connect to 802.11n WPA2 networks

2009-03-29 Thread Laurent GUERBY
I can confirm on 9.04 beta UNR 20090328 on the popular Hercules ecafe
EC-900/H60G-IA notebook that wifi WPA2 connection does not work. Non WPA
wifi works though (and the wired connection works too). I tested WPA2
from another machine with the same ubuntu and it worked.

Hardware has:

02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: RaLink RT2860 [1814:0781]

When trying to connect dmesg says:

[  686.730040] ===rt_ioctl_giwscan. 5(5) BSS returned, data-length = 515
[  686.730711] ==rt_ioctl_siwfreq::SIOCSIWFREQ[cmd=0x8b04] (Channel=1)
[  701.751142] ===rt_ioctl_giwscan. 4(4) BSS returned, data-length = 427
[  701.752005] ==rt_ioctl_siwfreq::SIOCSIWFREQ[cmd=0x8b04] (Channel=1)
[  716.772383] ===rt_ioctl_giwscan. 4(4) BSS returned, data-length = 427
[  716.773166] ==rt_ioctl_siwfreq::SIOCSIWFREQ[cmd=0x8b04] (Channel=1)

Would be nice to fix, the native distribution shipped with this ecafe
notebook has no problem connecting to WPA2 networks so there must be a
correct driver somewhere.

[Bug 313027] Re: MASTER: fglrx does not support xserver 1.6

2009-03-29 Thread Milan Satala
I have ATI mobility X300 and I find radeon driver performance to be acceptable.
However there's another problem that makes the driver unusable for me. It's the
lack of support for powerplay technology. Using open-source driver my computer
lasts just 1:20h on batter power as opposed to 2:30 on fglrx. I use my laptop
on the go and I do need that extra time. Since there's no way to downgrade
xserver I'm gonna spend the afternoon reinstalling ubuntu 8.10. If I knew this
before the upgrade I wouldn't do it.
I think this lower battery time on older ati cards issue should be
highlighted somewhere in the upgrade notes. Maybe even on the downloads page
once jaunty is out because many new users switching to ubuntu have older
hardware.

[Bug 350961] [NEW] Adobe plugin via updates is broken. Version from Adobe's website works with no issues.

2009-03-29 Thread Dave Mays
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

From aptitude they both look the same:

i adobe-flashplugin - Adobe Flash Player plugin version
10

However the Adobe version is Shockwave Flash 10.0 r22. The update
version is a newer version, not released by Adobe, and has some issues
like you can't click within a flash animation, and the settings popup
(privacy, camera, microphone) does not allow you to click it or close it.
Here is what is installed on my system now, it is working perfectly.
However if I allow the update it stops working. I would suggest
reverting back to the -1 version...

Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

adobe-flashplugin:
