[Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04 beta]slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-05-08 Thread jrd
@lesosk
I think you might be looking for answers in the wrong place as I don't think
the fullscreen crash issue you are experiencing is related to this patch. I had
the same issue before I applyed the patch and I had the same issue after I
applied the patch.

You might need to file another bug report or look to see if someone else
has done so.

My 2 cents

J

[Bug 326768] Re: mysqld_safe thinks mysqld has crashed when it hasn't

2009-05-08 Thread Dewey_Oxberger
Probably no point in me doing this but I spent the evening trying to get
the mysqld process hanging with the patch installed and never could.
I'm using network manager and the WaitForHDHomeRun script and I'm not
seeing any trouble.

I forgot to mention - before the patch I occasionally saw mysqld go 100%
on cpu usage. Other people are seeing that as well:

[Bug 373728] [NEW] kickoff applications menu empty after kde 4.2.3 update

2009-05-08 Thread timk
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded my kubuntu jaunty to kde 4.2.3.
The kickoff applications menu is now completely empty.
The other menues - favorites, computer, recently used and leave look fine.
Also the file associations seem to have disappeared. When I click on an
openoffice spreadsheet the system now asks to specify the application.

I have no idea to which package this problem may be connected.

I am not 100% certain but I think that in this case they modified these
for OOo 3.1.x. There have been other libraries in the past that had
modifications but at the time we were still using mostly internal copies
so didn't run into that issue.

I can continue to just use the internal copies if that would be
preferred.

[Bug 356702] Re: Jaunty: window switcher tooltips stick when they shouldn't

2009-05-08 Thread François Ingelrest
This tooltip is not misleading as dragging a window to another workspace
works. It doesn't work when Compiz is enabled because Compiz doesn't
support it. Try to disable Compiz and you'll see that it works perfectly
fine with Metacity.

[Bug 355155] Re: Computer hard locks randomly with ubuntu jaunty

My computer ran most of the day without freezing after disabling the
network connection. I re-enabled it in order to submit my logs and it
froze up before I could get into this page. I'm sure it has to do with
the networking somehow. Maybe a static IP would be my next test.

[Bug 373732] [NEW] libpam-mount ignores debug setting with luserconf

2009-05-08 Thread Markus Wigge
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpam-mount

When you enable '' in
'/etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml' with each login the module writes a
debug message on the terminal:

path to luserconf set to /home/xyz/.pam_mount.conf.xml

For SSH this is just annoying, but it breaks FTP logins, as FTP clients
don't know how to handle the output!

maybe pam-mount should not be included generally for common-auth but only where
needed.
login and gdm are quite enough for most cases.

[Bug 371533] Re: gnome-session not starting after jaunty upgrrade

2009-05-08 Thread ZioNemo
I can confirm that disabling (just renaming away
/etc/xdg/autostart/HuaweiAutoStart.desktop) does indeed "cure" the
problem.

The error I got from the KDE session was:

rm: cannot remove `/dev/null': Permission denied
Starting ivman -e done
manager.c:1383 (do_startup_configure) Directory
/usr/local/AliceMOBILE_E169/autorun/ivman/etc/ivman/ will be used for
configuration files.
mv: try to overwrite `/usr/local/AliceMOBILE_E169/autorun/start.log',
overriding mode 0644 (rw-r--r--)?

If You are interested in understanding just why the upgrade made the error
happen I will support You.
Otherwise I will simply try removing the "culprit"

Thanks a lot!

[Bug 373736] [NEW] Upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty uninstalled mysql server

2009-05-08 Thread Michael Cook
Public bug reported:

I've just noticed my mysql server was not running after having upgraded
to jaunty a couple of weeks ago. I could call /etc/init.d/mysql start
but nothing 'started'.

Using the Synaptic Package Manager I saw mysql 5 was not installed. I
installed the mysql server package and used phpmyadmin to see my
existing databases were in fact intact. This was not expected behaviour
not sure if it is design-intent and can't recall if the upgrader asked
me any questions related to mysql.

I rceeived e-mails from two different people saying that this problem seemed to
be duplicate of Bug # 215902. However; the fix for Bug # 215902 involves
Ubuntu and PDF. However, my problem is occuring using Windows Vista operating
system and printing using the built-in Print function within InkScape (i.e. the
file being printed is in .svg format and not PDF). Therefore, this bug IS NOT
A DUPLICATE OF BUG # 215902. Please re-instate it as an open bug. Thanks,

Reading the "Port to Qt 4" on dvbcut-devel list i'd like to say it would
be great to have a port to Qt 4.5 since QGtkStyle has become part of the

thank you for your work there, some notes:

[Bug 372187] Re: nautilus closes (crashes?) upon opening a NFS-mounted folder

2009-05-08 Thread FernanAguero
Finally I managed to isolate the culprit. It was a single file, sitting
in my NFS-exported home folder. I don't know how it got there (it's an
email message), but the filename was a single character, in an unusual
encoding.

The file is shown by FreeBSD as a diamond with a question mark inside.
The file is shown by Ubuntu sometimes as a single question mark.
To attach the file to this bug report I have put this file in a folder and
created a tar archive. When extracting this tar archive, tar shows this file
(tar xvzf ) as '\347').

I have edited the file, and cleared all content, and the problem
persists. So the unusual filename is sufficient to cause the crash.

The crash can also be reproduced in a local volume (not NFS mounted), so
I propose to change the title of this bug report to something like:
"nautilus closes (crashes?) upon opening a file with an unusual
filename"

Attached is this empty file (enclosed in an archive).

Sometimes (for example when trying to attach the file from firefox, or
in File->Open dialogs, the file would be shown by nautilus before
crashing as ' invalid encoding').

I cannot reproduce this bug in Ubuntu-9.04 (jaunty) I have copied the
tar archive over to a 9.04 box, and also copied the file itself using
scp and nautilus would not crash. It would show this filename as a
diamond with a question mark inside and would add 'invalid encoding' to
the filename.

[Bug 357901] Re: xinerama mouse cursor on every screen

2009-05-08 Thread Bugsy
Actually I have both problems, two cursors and sometimes the mouse gets
stuck with Firefox.

Usually this happens when I'm writing somehing in a html-form (Facebook
etc.). What actually happens the mouse moves in the same screen but if I
try to click something it clicks objects in the second screen. Also the
mouse doesn't move to the secondary screen anymore. Afterwards the mouse
starts to operate normally when I move it repeatedly back and forth and
click both buttons.

[Bug 373739] [NEW] NetworkManager Applet: Manual Default Gateway changes are ignored

2009-05-08 Thread Elizabeth Greene
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome

Hi.

In Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop, manual changes to the default gateway are
ignored unless you also change the IP address.

Steps to reproduce.

First, use NetworkManager to specify a static Ip address.
-Right-Click the NetworkManager icon in the notification area.
-Select Edit Connections
-Select "Auto eth0"
-Click Edit
-Click the IPV4 Settings tab
-Specify an IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
-Click Apply

Next, try to change the default gateway
-Right-Click the NetworkManager icon in the notification area.
-Select Edit Connections
-Select "Auto eth0"
-Click Edit
-Click the IPV4 Settings tab
-Change the default gateway.
-Click Apply

Re-open the applet and you will see the default gateway has not changed
in the GUI.

The workaround is to change the IP and the default gateway at the same
time, apply, and then change the IP back. That is a hassle.

The bug is in nm-connection-editor. I'll see if I can find it and post
a patch.

Thanks,
Ellie

[Bug 371730] Re: Typo in "Samba as a Domain Controller" guide causes domain joining to fail

2009-05-08 Thread Connor Imes
I didn't see any mention of "useradd" in the hardy serverguide. I
believe serverguide is located in a different directory tree in Hardy,
but I think I'm looking in the right place: generic/serverguide/C/

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
