[Bug 398185] Re: CDs will not play in DVD/CD-R/W

2009-07-12 Thread chuckr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 355375] Re: only mono sound 82801H jaunty

2009-07-12 Thread Dan Trevino
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in pulseaudio.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of
applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can
be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the
application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about
this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

BUGabundo: the clue's in the name, auto sync. This isn't a sync, it's
a very complicated merge that I didn't have time for.

I'll be happy to review patches in the form of a diff against Debian

current CD images to make sure it doesn't break the world. This is a
critical component.

[Bug 398570] [NEW] grub2 does not show a windows partition on a clean karmic install

2009-07-12 Thread Tom M
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

I don't know if anyone else if having the same problem but I installed
Karmic on the 11 July (from a Daily Alternative Kubuntu disc) and found
that windows had disappeared from my boot menu, but was present in the
configuration file. Anyway I printed /etc/grub.d/30_otheros and typed it
in manually and discovered a typo in the following:

menuentry Windows Vista (loader) {
set root=(hd0,0)
search --no-floppy --fs_uuid --set (cut out)
drivemap -s (hd0) $root
chainloader +1
}

setting --fs_uuid to --fs-uuid resolved my problem. Could this be fixed
in the next update of grub2 (grub-install??)

Thanks :)

[Bug 398509] Re: html guide referenced in man page is not there

2009-07-12 Thread Bernard François
After installing the subcommander-doc package, it did work.
Still, think it's an inconsistency having the man page in the subcommander
package and the rest of the documentation in the subcommander-doc package.

One possible solution to this bug would be to refer to the subcommander-
doc package in the man page (while keeping the path of the html file in
the man page as well - some users wouldn't know where to find the
documentation after installing the doc package).

Thanks again for helping improve Ubuntu.
You're welcome.

[Bug 206924] Re: Make it possible to create a guest account

2009-07-12 Thread Kangarooo
Ubuntu devs maybe wanna hear of it in GDM as it would be much much more simple?
Xfce maybe wont do this since its Ubuntu specific feature.
In Ubuntu there is button Guest. And it can be switched to guest.
Also when user is locked then in log in menu there is button Guest.
In Xubuntu locking user is possible with Adding button Switch User to panel
(newbies wont know that) and this Guest account can be made but as i tryd and
made it without password i couldnot log in in this myself made Guest account
without password thrue log in screen. (Maybe this needs reported as bug also-
not possible to log in passwordless accounts without password)
So at least lock user button can be added to xubuntu shutdown menu and in log
in menu a button could be made available called Guest.
What your ideas?

[Bug 398583] [NEW] [karmic] Trash left on screen when scrolling with another window on top of Firefox.

2009-07-12 Thread Michael Marley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

On my Kubuntu Karmic amd64 system, if I place a window on top of Firefox
and scroll the Firefox window in such a way so that new content should
come out from under the second window, only corrupted text/images
appear. I have attached a screenshot to demonstrate the problem. The
Firefox in the screenshot is a custom build, but the builds from Karmic
and the ubuntu-mozilla-daily PPA are afflicted with the same problem.
If it matters, my system has an Nvidia 8600m GT using the non-free
drivers. Several versions of this driver still exhibit the problem, so
the problem is not caused by Nvidia. Additionally, the problem does not
occur with any other program I have tried, such as Konqueror.

Thanks Kamus,

rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060309 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.11

There's that i686 again. I have i386 kernal but since I upgraded Ubuntu
on my other hardrive to i686 now this one thinks it is i686 also. Oh
well that's mystery for later :)

I tried to reproduce with opera but the submenu stayed put and let me
click on it. I rebooted to my old Ubuntu install with Firefox version:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042513
Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.10 and the problem persist. It also
persist on a fresh firefox profile and Epiphany 2.22.2 Gecko 1.9. So for
me The problem is with Gecko browsers.

[Bug 376853] Re: gdm fails to load nvidia closed-source driver

2009-07-12 Thread punzada
Bryce, thank you for looking into this matter, after a clean install
(jaunty 64) I tried the method of adding your ppa and installing that
driver from the start. It appears to load into the system and load the
driver without issue now, however ..

I've also noticed I am now experiencing this bug while attempting to
'compiz --replace ' from terminal --
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/316214 with same
output as Daniel Dekovic commented with.

Compiz however still appears to function fine when enabling it through
the gnome gui (system-preferences-appearance-visual effects-extra).
This has turned into a horrible annoyance to a very minor inconvenience
if this holds up so thanks for the good work :)

2009-07-12 Thread Erik de Castro Lopo
Sebastien Bacher wrote:

Thank you for your bug report, what session do you select?

I left it as GNOME.

However, I've been running Ubuntu since breezy and have always set
the window manager in the $HOME/.xession file. Previous versions of
gdm would allow whatever session was set up in gdm to be overrridden
by the contents of $HOME/.xession. At various times I have run
fluxbox, openbox, enlightenment 17 and xmonad in this way.

The $HOME/.xession file also allows the running of tools like xmodmap,
xrdb and xset. This no longer works with the Karmic version of gdm.

[Bug 381194] Re: streamtuner fails to start - segmentation fault

This bug needs to stay open until it is fixed. This is the ONLY app that

still ignored? Not acceptable. The audacious plugin that comes from
synaptic does NOT work in jaunty. Now there is segmentation fault when
you try to start streamtuner. Is anyone out there willing to look at
this?

[Bug 288496] Re: package winbind 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-07-12 Thread Emilien Klein
Same here, I just added the Wine repositories and installed Wine
(1.1.25~winehq0~ubuntu~9.04-0ubuntu1 as of writing) which needed the
winbind package (2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3) which seem to be an official ubuntu
package because it has the little Ubuntu icon on the left.

At the end of installing (with Synaptic), I got a message telling me
that winbind failed to install. I see that this bug is already in
triaged state, but I don't know if somebody is looking at it?

I've attached the result of a sudo aptitude dist-upgrade, don't know
if this might help.

[Bug 398595] [NEW] transmission-gtk misses most files when auto-downloading

2009-07-12 Thread Marc A. Donges
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

k...@galileo:~$ dpkg -s transmission-gtk | grep -E -e ^Version
Version: 1.72-1ubuntu1

I would like to use transmission without interacting too much with its
user interface. So I have configured:

☑ Automatically add torrents from: […]
☐ Display options dialog
☑ Start when added
☑ Move source files to Trash

However, this does not work as expected. When I move several files “at
once” into the directory transmission is being notified about,
transmission adds only one. It adds two, if I move many (approx. 10)
files into the directory at once.

Expected: transmission should add all files I newly move into that
directory.

Thanks for your work. Could you please verify that the diff over debian
is still needed? I managed to build the package without further changes,
so would be nice if you could check that the reason for introducing this
change is no longer needed. In the future, please always check if we
really need to carry changes along. Every package synced is less
manpower needed to maintain the Ubuntu archive. ;-)
