[Bug 410805] [NEW] Right click event occasionally fires twice

2009-08-08 Thread Oli
Public bug reported:

Occasionally (around one in seven times) when I right click, two right
clicks are registered.

This is especially chaotic when I do things like right click to open a
context menu and the second fake click triggers the first menu item. Or
when I'm trying to relieve stress by playing Simon Tatham's wonderful
netwalk clone, Net, and the network pipe spins around twice when I only
wanted it to spin once.

Okay. These are fairly minor issues but it's slowly grinding me down.
And they could be a symptom of another, far worse issue that hasn't
shown itself yet.

Things I have checked:
 - My finger: Well I was told on the forums it could be me. It's not. Let us
move on.
 - Hardware: I've checked the mouse and I've changed to another mouse. Both
mice are USB but I don't have a PS/2 mouse port on this motherboard. I've also
used both mice (about two hours ago, to test) on a Windows computer. The mice
are fine.
 - Double-click timeout: To test, I set it to its lowest (where it's very hard
to double click when you actually want to) and the accidental
double-right-clicks were still getting through!
 - xev: When the double-right-clicks occur, I see two full right click cycles
with very, very close timecodes (14693245 vs 14693276 = 21ms(?) delay)

I'm not sure what else I should test. Please suggest.

I'm on 9.10 (all updates) and here's the forum post that proceeded this

[Bug 410800] [NEW] Does not recognize .shp (ESRI Shapefile) files

2009-08-08 Thread Oliver Gerlich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shared-mime-info

In Nautilus, files with .shp suffix are not recognized - they have type
"unknown (application/octet-stream)". The "file" command detects these files
correctly as Shapefiles (though it doesn't display a useful mime type):
$ file onb_grenzen.shp
onb_grenzen.shp: ESRI Shapefile version 1000 length 11050154 type Polygon
$ file -i onb_grenzen.shp
onb_grenzen.shp: application/octet-stream

It would be nice if Nautilus would display a useful file type
description rather than "unknown". The example file can be downloaded at
http://www.bundesnetzagentur.de/media/archive/11358.zip ("Geographische
Grenzen aller ONB, Stand: 11.05.2009 (zip, 10247 kb)").

I assume Nautilus uses shared-mime-info for its file detection; sorry if
the bug is reported against the wrong package.

[Bug 341864] Re: simple-ccsm crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__VOID()

2009-08-08 Thread xtknight
I believe the bug is in compizconfig-settings-manager's scripts.

I don't know if this is the proper fix, but in
/usr/share/pyshared/ccm/Widgets.py, line ~940, def destroy(self) under
class Popup (gtk.Window):

change gtk.Window.destroy (self)
to gtk.Window.hide (self)

That might cause a memory leak but it doesn't crash. I thought python
managed its own memory anyway. It should be calling destroy itself?

[Bug 380091] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 Ekiga 3.2.0 If PDU is way larger than standard MTU (1500), even if local MTU is large enough (7000), connection timeout.

2009-08-08 Thread BrainwreckedTech
Thanks for looking into this at all. I wasn't expecting this to be
easy. If it was something that could be solved with a few hours of
pounding one's head into solid objects, I would have done that already
and put the solution up on my blog, along with a thank you to the
responsible party for making me a little less sane. If an Ekiga
developer can't explain log #1, that means I haven't lost all sanity
just yet. :)

So I guess the solution for now is to experiment with the codecs. Have
the user enable codecs one-by-one on a one-and-only-one basis, keep
notes, and enable only those that will work. Not the best way to do
things, but a work-around is a work-around.

What I suspect is happening now:

Ekiga established UDP connection
Ekiga negotiates codecs with SIP server
Ekiga uses first mutually-agreeable codec without checking if resulting UDP
packet sizes might result in a drop
Packets get dropped
Ekiga says, "Hey, I tried!"
User goes "WTF?"
Devs grumble

What I suspect will happen with TCP support:

Ekiga negotiates TCP or UDP with SIP server
If both are supported, Ekiga uses TCP because of the problems with UDP.
Ekiga negotiates codecs with SIP server
Ekiga uses first mutually-agreeable codec
Packets get fragmented instead of dropped
Ekiga works.
Both users and devs happy happy

Scenario I'm afraid of with TCP support:

Ekiga negotiates UDP or TCP with SIP server
Ekiga finds a UDP-only SIP server
Ekiga negotiates codecs with SIP server
Ekiga uses first mutually-agreeable codec without checking if resulting UDP
packet sizes might result in a drop
Packets get dropped
Ekiga says, "Hey, I tried!"
Users and devs both go, "WTF?"

The addition of TCP support would definitely minimize the impact of UDP
packet sizes, and admittedly knock the priority of the bug way down on
the list due to that minimized impact. But someone, somewhere, is going
to run into that last scenario. I'll bet an entire case of Monster (or
your favorite) energy drinks on it.

Also it's important to include relevant packaging changes to the
debian/changelog, not just the upstream changes (i.e. Add python-
simplejson to Recommends).

You should close the Ubuntu bug in the debian/changelog. Although I
forget that myself sometimes. ;-)

The current Standards-Version is now 3.8.2. We don't bother bumping it
for packages also in Debian as it's not worth carrying the diff, but as
this is an Ubuntu only package I did.

In your debian copyright file you refer to the versionless symlink
license usr/share/common-licenses/GPL. I fixed that to point at GPL-3.

And finally, even though the package isn't in Debian and you are the
upstream maintainer, Ubuntu packages generally should have the
maintainer field set to Ubuntu Developers .

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Minor UI annoyance:

Why is the song progress bar so big, and why does the Search bar cut
into the browse screen? These could easily be moved onto the same line
to remove some of the wasted space.

If somebody agrees, I will write the patch for this.

Timo,

I finally had time to replace the 320GB drive in my laptop with a 500GB

the boot menu. I'm up to date with the kernel (2.6.28-15.48) and nvidia

[Bug 103960] Re: System->Admin->Networking Change hostname trashes hosts file

2009-08-08 Thread Fibonacci
Whenever one opens network-admin, and then clicks on the "Host" tab, all
entries on /etc/hosts are lumped into as few lines as possible, causing
problems such as bug 386791.

To reproduce:
1- Create or download a long /etc/hosts file, with many entries pointing to the
same IP (adblocking files are good for that purpose).
2- Run network-admin *as root*, and click on the Hosts tab. You don't need to
actually make any change.
3- Close network-admin.

What I expect to happen:
/etc/hosts has not changed.

What really does happen:
All entries on /etc/hosts that point to the same IP are now in the same line,
thus creating extremely long lines, and segfaults in getaddrinfo.

It's surprising to see that after 2+ years, this has still not been
fixed.

[Bug 402767] Re: multisearch CSE breaks l18n+setfocus+images+cached+I'm feeling lucky functionality and "violates user trust"

2009-08-08 Thread aboaboit
The fine folks at Ubuntu probably fail to realize that a sizeable quota
of users switching away from That Other OS do so precisely because
they're fed up with sleazy moves like this one. If this "moral
superiority" goes away, so does their incentive to migrate. Plus, it
makes advocacy a hell of a lot more difficult.

Hats off to whoever came up with this brilliant idea. NOT.

[Bug 402767] Re: multisearch CSE breaks l18n+setfocus+images+cached+I'm feeling lucky functionality and "violates user trust"

2009-08-08 Thread Directrix1
This bug report has become a farce. I created the separate bug report
because it is a separate issue. I guess I won't clear the duplicate
flag because this bug's description has been changed to that all
encompassing "multisearch CSE breaks l18n+setfocus+images+cached+I'm
feeling lucky functionality and 'violates user trust'". I seriously
doubt you are helping anything by focusing on a really ambiguous and
overly broad bug report, but you guys do want you want. Dilute this
issue as much as possible.

Beside the ugly google search page results that i havem when I am
searching for stanford (I am not searching. I am just lazy to type
stanford.edu) in the previous case google will forward me directly to

[Bug 349519] Re: Switch Desktop Mode corrupted settings

2009-08-08 Thread Elton Woo
I should know better to leave well enough alone: HOWEVER. old habits (as
a beta tester) are hard to break.

... as a test, I reverted to "netbook" and got the following error:

/begin quote

An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for
netbook-launcher. Some of your configuration settings may not work
properly.

Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that
you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS
locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for
information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to gconf daemon:
Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus))

/end quote

/REM I wonder if this might relate to processor speed, since the intial
reporte of this bug is using an Asus 900, whereas my machine is the
newer Asus 1000. Hyperthreading is turned on by default in the BIOS.

When I booted back, the netbook interface was available, WITH the
classic was also visible in the background. I easily reverted to the
classic look. Now, though the 'compiz' toolbar which looks like the OS/X
toolbar is now on the desktop behind the bottom launcher.

However, none of the icons in the 'compiz' toolbar work.

... taking my *own* advice: if it works, don't fsck with it! L0)

2009-08-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for reporting this bug in the ATI KMS PPA. We normally like to
focus one bug report per issue, and since I think the performance issues
are known upstream I'm going to focus this one on the screen corruption
problem. (You're welcome to file another bug on the performance issue
if you'd like to help us track that one to a solution.)
