[Bug 442081] [NEW] Loop device with root filesystem cannot be unmounted during shutdown
Public bug reported: Have installed ubuntu 9.04 using wubi (put wubi.exe and iso in same directory to install). Upgraded to 9.10 karmic development branch using update-manager -d. Upgrade went fine, but when system is now shutdown, shutdown procedure hangs. The problem is that the loop device cannot unmount the device that is running my root disk (20G image mounted on loop device). Pressing ctrl-alt-del produces two more shutdown messages. One is about deactivating swap.but that one does not succeed either... So problem is in kernel / loop device or the shutdown order..which is configured in either the kernel or some shutdown script? [Bug 442070] Re: incorrect visualization of mpg video captured from DVB-S card
** Description changed: Binary package hint: totem - Totem does not well visualize any of my several .mpg video that are recordings from a DVB-S card (Skystar 2). + I have a lot of .mpg videos that are recordings from a DVB-S card (Skystar 2) taken in Win XP with ProgDVB in the last years. + Totem does not well visualize any of these files. What Totem shows is like a variation of meaningless big pixels, the sound is good. The files are MPEG2 transport streams. Same bug is in Karmic beta. Other considerations: VLC 1.02 in Karmic beta works well on these files but VLC 0.9.9a in Jaunty doesn't (black screen) . The problem could be in the Gstreamer framework because the same exact problem happens with Moovida and Pitivi applications that also use Gstreamer like Totem does. The Openshot video editor, that instead uses the MLT framework, works well on the same files. [Bug 419054] Re: kdeinit4: plasma-desktop takes 60-90% of CPU
I also have View of a directory (the one which is by default). This one does not seem to pose problem. If my X goes again to 60% without the Note, I will try to remove the view of a directory and putting back the Note. Since I don't know how to trigger the bug, I'm forced to test each combination separately and wait some hours before to be sure if a combination works or not. -- kdeinit4: plasma-desktop takes 60-90% of CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419054 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdebase-workspace in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 433701] Re: services-admin should be disabled
Has anyone seen the services GUI used by Fedora? It's pretty nice, much better than services-admin. I don't know if it works with upstart, but if so, maybe we could just use that. (It is open source, after all.) What always bothered me about services-admin is that it wasn't comprehensive. It was hard-coded for some particular services, rather than providing a general interface for manipulating any services the user may have installed. [Bug 442102] [NEW] Intel HDA: no sound on several laptops
Public bug reported: There is no sound playback on three laptops using Ubuntu Karmic Beta: A Compaq 6720s, an (older) Siemsens Fujitsu Amilo Pro, and a very new Sony Vaio VGN-FW31ZJ. On all three laptops, there was sound with Ubuntu Jaunty, including all updates until approx Oct, 1st. When headphones pluged in, the sound worked (on the headphones), but I felt that there was only medium quality (noise etc.). I found somewhere in an older post that adding the option snd-hda-intel model=mitac to the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf solved the problem, so i tried and it worked for all laptops! [Bug 442101] [NEW] Gnome Application Windows Aren't Centered When Opening
Public bug reported: Since the beginning of Linux many applications you open are not being centered on the desktop and I see this has still not been improved 100% on the various desktops/window managers... As long as Linux has been around you would think that someone had developed a way to keep all applications centered on the desktop when you open them. I do not know if this has been any area of concern for the Ubuntu team but from what I have seen in other distros it looks like Ubuntu has been possibly doing something here, or maybe it's coming from Gnome development, but it's nice to finally see applications opening up on the center of the desktop at least on Gnome, I can't say what the other desktops are like in Karmic right now, I'm only using Gnome. But in Gnome running under Karmic right now there are still applications that do not center when opening them and it would be great if they all did. Without having to make a long list here of all the applications I see that do not center themselves on the desktop when you open them I just ask that the developers spend the time to somehow develop Gnome so that all applications that are opened will be centered on the desktop. I truly believe and I hope others out there do, that part of a polished desktop is having applications open consistently and in the same place, not sporadically all over the place at different times. [Bug 427782] Re: ubuntu karmic development kernel does not include patch to enable buttons on stylus for the N-Trig digitizer
The N-trig digitizer is being built into more and more tablets/notebooks (Dell Latitude XT, Latitude XT2, HP TouchSmart TX2, Lenovo Thinkpad T400s and X200t, etc.). There is no reason why Ubuntu shouldn't work out of the box with all these notebooks. Using the mainline daily kernels is not really an option for those who expect their Ubuntu to work without installing additional deb archives and for those who need the patched Ubuntu kernels (as opposed to mainline kernels) for some other reason. Thus I strongly vote for including the bug fix in the Ubuntu kernel. Also because the patch has been in use for some time now (including a couple of Ubuntu users) and I am not aware of any complaints about it. -- ubuntu karmic development kernel does not include patch to enable buttons on stylus for the N-Trig digitizer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/427782 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368833] Re: Ctrl+Q after upgrade fails to ask for confirmation, loses user session
I can reproduce this problem. Although it has nothing to do with upgrades. Simply open a fresh firefox instance (firefox -no-remote -P), hit Ctrl+T a couple of times to have open tabs. Press Ctrl+Q, hit the dont ask next time checkbox, Save and Quit. Then open this profile again, see the Tabs coming up, hit Ctrl+Q again, see the browser closing itself w/o asking. There is no chance to make firefox ask whether to really quit or not. That's annoying, especially when you have a large download going on. I'm talking about Firefox 3.0.14 here. Related bugs seem to be https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419009 and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422040. [Bug 430494] Re: gdm upstart script fails to start gdm
For me, the bug was caused by booting to single user. /etc/init/gdm.conf wil exit if you booted to single user: # Check kernel command-line for inhibitors for ARG in $(cat /proc/cmdline) do case ${ARG} in text|-s|s|S|single) exit 0 ;; esac done -- gdm upstart script fails to start gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/430494 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
