[Bug 445191] [NEW] Enabling proprietory ATI driver prevents X from starting
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 Hi The bug report that I am sending doesn't concern Ubuntu 9.04 but Ubuntu 9.10 beta. I have never submitted a bug report to Ubuntu before and I wasn't aware of the Apport tool beforehand. I installed 9.10 out of curiosity to see if the stability and performance problems I experience with the fglrx driver 9.04 would be resolved in 9.10. However, after I enabled the driver by pressing the Restricted Hardware Drivers icon and rebooted the computer, I was presented with a black display – no splash screen, no log on screen, just black (and the caps lock light was blinking). I have since re-installed 9.04 on this system – which explains why some of the auto-generated information in this report isn't correct. Also, and I don't know if this is a related problem or not and whether I should file a separate bug report, after installing 9.10 and being prompted to reboot, the screen would flicker between being black and showing the wallpaper, and the only way to stop the machine was by pressing the off button on the computer. This was before the ATI driver was enabled. [Bug 194973] Re: Motion blur and Water effect plugins are incompatible
This sounds a /lot/ like a driver based issue to me. I don't see any reason as to why ARB_fragment_program and the simple texture copy and replace code should interfere here, unless there are bugs in compiz' opacity handling. Although, I can say that I have an 8600GT and am using 191.x and am seeing this issue as well (although, it is a general issue with the texture copy logic and doesn't just happen when water is enabled [but it does when blur is enabled too]) Could somebody please triage this with a FOSS driver that is known to support fragment programs and is relatively fast? According to the Specification devices are named without gnome-dev-* , so, icon themes should use name drive- removable-media-usb instead of gnome-dev-removable-usb, media-flash-cf instead of gnome-dev-media-cf, etc, look at http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/icon-naming-spec- latest.html#devices icon-naming-utils are for generating legacy gnome-dev-* symlinks from standard icon names, listed in the Specification, but not for generating drive-removable* or media-flash* from legacy gnome-dev-*, see legacy- icon-mapping.xml (/usr/share/icon-naming-utils/legacy-icon-mapping.xml) Finally I completely understood how to solve this big issue: 1. At first we need to fix icon themes to use standard icon names, listed at http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-naming-spec/icon-naming-spec-latest.html#devices instead of legacy gnome-dev-* names ! Look at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506532#c6 for more info. 2. When icon themes will use standard names then we could fix second part of this issue - gvfs libraries, which use the drive-harddisk-usb icon name, for usb storage devices that aren't hard disks, see http://git.gnome.org./cgit/gvfs/tree/monitor/hal/ghaldrive.c and http://git.gnome.org./cgit/gvfs/tree/monitor/hal/ghalmount.c ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #506532 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506532 ** Changed in: breathe-icon-set Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: breathe-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- Icons of usb storage devices shoud be different from internal hdd icons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253599 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 445180] [NEW] nvidia-xconfig not setting up xorg.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When installing Nvidia 185 source along with glx, nvidia-xconfig is not automatically running and setting up xorg.conf which I thought is suppose to be normal and not making the end-user run the command. When I first installed Karmic a few days ago after installing Nvidia I did not need to manually run nvidia-xconfig. Eclipse 3.4 only ran on the Ubuntu OpenJDK 6 package -- the Sun JVM would crash after seconds of use, and gij was completely unusable for some reason that slips my mind. [Bug 445055] Re: Firefox Error Message - Seems to have been caused by previous error-report crashing gconf
I, too, am getting these errors. Both in Karmic Beta, and I also got them in Alpha (Daily) The best solution (temporary work-around) I can give you for the moment, is to sudo killall gconfd-2 and then try to do whatever you were doing again. That will automatically open a fresh instance of gconfd-2. It seems to be some kind of problem with gconf2 and .authorization (sp?) files (my terrible memory... I hope I got that correct.) I'm guessing it's a regression of some sort. I have found posts about this error dating back to 2004. I've only just started experiencing it with Karmic builds, however. -- Firefox Error Message - Seems to have been caused by previous error-report crashing gconf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections
Yes. Saw this in Jaunty today (Oct. 6th) after getting all the updates (but NOT "jaunty-proposed"). I enabled remote desktop and rebooted. Upon reboot and log-in (I have it configured to auto-login my account, but I don't think that is related), vino-server is spawned over and over and over again, and it is the respawning from gnome-session of vino-server that seems to eat all the CPU, not any single vino-server process. As mentioned earlier in this bug-thread, I have "psacct" enabled and I can see 100's of vino-server processes that consume 0.01 seconds. -Original Message- From: Sebastien Bacher Reply-to: Bug 31037 <31...@bugs.launchpad.net> To: m...@himikeb.com Subject: [Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections Date: Wed, 23 Sep 2009 15:30:22 - is anybody still getting that in jaunty or karmic? there is also bug #340515 similar ** Changed in: vino (Ubuntu) Milestone: ubuntu-6.06 => None -- Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/31037 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 434447] Re: Desktop switcher won't disable gnome-panel when changing from classic to netbook mode
I'm afraid I still have consistent crashing problems with the Desktop Switcher applet. This is a fresh install of UNR karmic beta 1, then applying all the current auto updates (as of Oct 6) on an eee pc 1005ha. Most of the time it locks up, but I got one .crash log. The following crash sequence is pretty repeatable on this machine: 1. Be in classic mode 2. Open a terminal, just so some program is running 3. Switch to netbook desktop mode ... this works 4. Try to switch back to classic desktop The netbook desktop disappears, the terminal app takes over the whole screen, but with a drawing glitch of 2 vertical scroll bars. The classic desktop menu elements are not present ... the menu at the top of the screen is from the terminal, so it all looks wrong. Clicking or typing in the terminal does not work. However, the close-window menu command does sortof work in the terminal .. the window disappears enough to reveal the classic menus at the top (I guess they were just covered), but the main terminal window does not erase, so things look wrong, with the mid-click menu and terminal window contents left on screen. From here, trying to switch back to netbook desktop just freezes. Trying to do a restart gives the warning window "UNR Launcher not responding" .. so I would guess that the UNR Launcher is getting stuck during the switch and causing all these other problems. For the .crash log, I was switching desktop modes but I don't recall which direction. I had not yet deleted the launcher pref file, so there's a chance the crash is due to my earlier testing, but I think it's most likely the same problem as above. ** Attachment added: "netbook-launcher.crash log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/33201858/_usr_bin_netbook-launcher.1000.crash -- Desktop switcher won't disable gnome-panel when changing from classic to netbook mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434447 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
