[Bug 385445] Re: [i915GM/GMS/910GML and GM965/GL960] Monitor does not turn back on and computer hangs when laptop lid is closed

2009-11-15 Thread Jaime Puente
I have this problem on a Dell Latitude X300 using ubuntu 9.10 and
kubuntu 9.10. In 9.04 it doesn't happen. My video card is 00:02.0 VGA
compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device [8086:3582] (rev 02). I have tested the built'in kernel
and 2.6.31.rc9 with the same result. When I close the lid and open again
the screen remains blank appearing only the cursor without movement. I
can't change the tty or force the reboot via REISUB combination. I only
can press the power button to force it to shutdown.

I have modified the grub.cfg to include nomodeset. This prevents the
computer to hang, but the screen becomes corrupted when the lid is
opened. You can fix it by changing from tty7 to other tty, and then
returning to tty7.

Hope this helps and thanks to all!

[Bug 481775] Re: HP Pavilion ze5702EA has some keyboard issues

2009-11-15 Thread Martin Pitt
So if these hotkeys are not attached to the main keyboard event device,
they might have a separate one. Can you please do sudo lsinput and
check which names also sound plausible? (E. g. on Sony notebooks there
is a Sony Vaio Keys device which is responsible for the hotkeys).
Please check those again with keymap -i.

Thanks!

[Bug 483064] [NEW] Some websites displayed incorrectly

2009-11-15 Thread billi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Some sites are not displayed as expected.
For example, check www.moin.gov.il (which is the Israeli ministry of interior
affairs). For some reason the content of the webpage is shown in a small
rectangle instead the full page. The bug is probably not related to Ubuntu,
since I observe the same behavior of FF installed on Windows machines. However,
once confirmed, I assume that FF developers will pay more attention to a bug
reported by Ubuntu team rather than one reported by a single user.

P.S.
Both Opera and Google Chrome (linux versions) have no problem with this page.

Thank you.

[Bug 452208] Re: devkit-disks-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_g_method_return_error()

2009-11-15 Thread Allan Caeg
I got a devkit-disks-daemon crash while installing Karmic 32bit. It
appeared at about 80%. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same bug and am
anxious about it. Maybe, I'm just being compulsive.

I didn't report it with apport. I just booted now on my fresh install
and googled devkit-disks-daemon. Is there a chance that it's another
bug. If so, how can it affect my system?

I feel like reformatting. hehe

[Bug 441408] Re: [MASTER] Mouse jumps to bottom corner on click in fullscreen games. New mouses (A4Tech). Related to DGA / DGAMOUSE in SDL.

2009-11-15 Thread Riot777
For me: export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 fixes the problem partially
cause it take away the jumping problem but this leaves my mouse not
smooth, not like it was in Ubuntu 9.04. It make my mouse lag in games.
Please test if you got the same observations. I tested this issue on two
A4Tech mice A4Tech AK-47 and A4Tech X718 and had the same results. I
think something may be broken in the xorg package or sdl.

[Bug 478274] Re: cannot mount usb volumes: Not authorized, after upgrade to Karmic

2009-11-15 Thread David Decotigny
Reopening this issue. I am afraid there is a real problem here...

As I understand by looking at the code (mainly
ck-manager.c:load_seats_from_dir()), the fact that there is an invalid regular
file in /etc/ConsoleKit/seats.d/ has only the following impacts:
 - the first correct seat created will have id Seat2 instead of Seat1
 - there is one more iteration in the while loop in
ck-manager.c:load_seats_from_dir()
But I don't see anything else.

So how is it possible that we get:
   Matched x11-display-device /dev/tty7 to /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session1
when there is no .svn directory... and we don't get anything when there is a
.svn dir ? Is it because there is an internal error that prevents Seat2 from
being visible for the matching routines whereas Seat1 is visible ? Is there
something hard-wired for Seat1 (in config files or code) ? Is this a race
condition because of the additional iteration in the while loop (highly
improbable).

Besides, perhaps a suggestion (?): in ck_seat.c:ck_seat_new_from_file(),
add calls g_key_file_free() where relevant ?

[Bug 459695] Re: KDE has not Shutdown/Restart buttons if started from GDM

2009-11-15 Thread Alessio Spinus Moscatello
Same problem, and I've also noticed that I can't switch the user: in fact it
simply lock current session, but doesn't not start another session!
I've tried to use Lancelot, but it doesn't work too because it can't find the
display manager
Lancelot can not find your display manager. This means that it not able to
retrieve the list of currently running sessions, or start a new one.

P.S: on Jaunty I didn't have any problems..so I think the problem is a
protocol change on GDM...

[Bug 192641] Re: Gdebi-gtk cannot use proxy with authentication

2009-11-15 Thread PaulW
This also affects me, and I agree, this will also affect many enterprise

access.

Authentication is provided via Proxy Manager in Gnome, yet apt-get fails
to take this into account and fails.

[Bug 483070] [NEW] Unable to install Ubuntu 9.10; livecd freezes completely

2009-11-15 Thread mati
Public bug reported:

Steps:
1. Boot the system from livecd.
2. Open some files and programs (I used gparted to move make a place for the
system).
3. Watch the system freezes completely after some time (~half an hour).
Keyboard and mouse don't work, even the Ctrl-Alt-Del and Alt-SysRq magic.

The issue is related to the cd/dvd drive (LG GSA-4167B), happens always
when/immediately after the disc was spinning. The drive is perfectly
healthy, works ok under two versions of Windows and worked ok under
previous versions of Ubuntu (up to 8.04 IIRC). However, the freezes
happens always under updated 9.10 too.

I though it was a bug introduced by some update and attached myself to
#74372, but I've checked if I can reproduce from a clean install (or
*livecd*, in this case). I can, so for the case of clarity (#74372 has
some noise) I report it here.

Also important: it's probably not hal related as the freeze happens when
the hal isn't even started. Nothing appears in the udev log too. I
suspect Ubuntu kernel, as it stops before any message appears in any
logs.

 Bug description:
Apport (apport-gtk) will not launch after upgrade from Ubuntu Gutsy to

either. It appears briefly on the panel as if it is launching but then that
 disappears and... nothing.

Not sure if this would've worked anyway, but tried apport as well as

[Bug 483076] [NEW] [9.10] IEC958+analog (dual) audio output not available anymore (worked with 9.04)

2009-11-15 Thread amay82
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

Steps to reproduce:
* Try to play audio with analog 5.1 + IEC958 digital output in parallel
* To do so, open mixer/sound settings

What I expected to happen:
* Analog + digital output should be available as a profile. (In previous
versions, there were no profiles and it was enough to un-mute digital and
analog output in the mixer interface)

What happend instead:
* There are only profiles for analog output and digital output (with various
inputs, but input doesn't matter in my case)

Workaround:
* Every time I want to watch a movie on my HDMI TV, I have to switch from
analog to digital sound output now. It's not so critical, but with Ubuntu 9.04
I was able to get sound from the TV _and_ my 5.1 system.
* (Un-)muting the appropriate channel in alsamixer doesn't work anymore

[Bug 141564] Re: Konqueror/KDE: media:/ displays UUIDs instead of foldernames

2009-11-15 Thread ^rooker
Weird, but it really seems to be related to a racing condition!
Thanks to a post in kubuntuforums
(http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3095353.msg135670#msg135670),
I've tried delaying the startup of kdm to be waaay after hal:

[quote]
cd /etc/rc2.d
sudo rm S13kdm
sudo ln -s ../init.d/kdm S97kdm

# optional: check if the link still points to kdm:
ls -l S97kdm
[quote]

Seems weird, since the order of hal and kdm was probably always like
that on my system, and I couldn't think of anything I've changed that
could have caused this problem. It appeared out of nowhere.

Are you certain that you can't use amixer to do the same thing?

Is that still an issue in Karmic final? It works well in general,
perhaps this particular totem crash did not use the standard glib assert
macros?

[Bug 400830] Re: shared folder still shared even if recreated after deletion

2009-11-15 Thread John Baptist
Another thought:
Could this problem be solved with extended attributes? Nautilus-share could add
an extended attribute to each shared folder, which would contain a unique
identifier, which would map into its list of known shared folders? This, it
seems, would be a more reliable solution than tracking files by path and would
prevent the kind of confusion demonstrated in this bug and others like it.

Of course, extended attributes aren't enabled by default in Ubuntu, but
that's easy to fix.

[Bug 386802] Re: grub-setup crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-11-15 Thread Seth
It is still the same problem on my Karmic with full updates.

I still need to manually remember to run grub-mkdevicemap before update-
grub or it will just fail. It might be due the fact that I switch and
swap disks quite a few times. Still shouldn't render the system
unbootable on kernel upgrades, IMHO!
