[Bug 442141] Re: crypt setup requires slow typing

2009-11-28 Thread mejo
i strongly believe that this is an invalid bugreport. several people i know, me
included,
do type their password a lot faster than one letter per second. we never
discovered
such behaviour.
how do you know that the key is repeated? i shouln't see your input on the
prompt.
or did you debug it properly?

maybe your keyboard is broken or you misstyped the password or something
else.

[Bug 475811] Re: crashes when a filename uses :

2009-11-28 Thread knarf
There is a notice in Mono's Uri.cs that there is a difference between
Mono 1.2 and Mono 2.0 in how scheme name characters are checked:

// Check scheme name characters as specified in RFC2396.
// Note: different checks in 1.x and 2.0

(mcs/class/System/System/Uri.cs:1380)

Maybe that is what triggered this bug?

[Bug 457220] Re: OpenOffice crashes when saving .doc file with notes in it, Karmic.

2009-11-28 Thread kennedy
I have the problem too, on a fresh install of 9.10. It's critical for me
as a teacher because I use the notes function in grading essays.

Deleting the .openoffice.org folder didn't help, although I think just
after deleting it I was able to save a .doc file with notes once or
twice. But the problem returned.

Billjoie's solution works for me -- so many thanks! But it would be much
nicer to be able to use the ubuntu-ized version of OO, especially
because it has a more elegant and more convenient way of opening,
finding, and bookmarking files.

I hope this bug is given a high priority.

1) aplay normally plays via pulseaudio so that one would check pulseaudio as
well

[Bug 489585] Re: Incorrectly messaging Starting/Stopping NTP server in ifup/ifdown scripts

2009-11-28 Thread Arseny Klimovsky
When I want to run in recovery mode, NTP server messages spoil the menu,
so that it's difficult to use it anymore.

To reproduce the bug some interface should bring up not immediately
after boot, after some time. In my case it is PPP-connection. Photo is
attached.

[Bug 451523] Re: Intel x3100 enormous regression in ubuntu 9.10 beta

2009-11-28 Thread Mike Richards
It was app-specific in my case. For example, kvm/qemu was configured to
use something other than pulseaudio, and was fighting with pulseaudio,
causing the video output to be jerky as it used 100% cpu trying to play
sound. Once I reconfigured the errant apps to talk to pulseaudio instead
of whatever they were trying to talk to, things were smooth.

In all fairness, the problem wasn't even pulseaudio itself, but rather
misconfigured apps. But I never had problems before pulseaudio, and
there was recently a Slashdot article bashing pulseaudio, so that's
where the blame went...

I never did get the Phoronix test running; it bombed out with some kind
of gtk error. But I convinced myself that it wasn't the Intel driver at
fault by comparing extremetuxracer framerates. It was significantly
faster in 9.10 -- double the framerate at 800x600 (60fps vs 30fps), and
about 20% faster at 1680x1050 (30fps vs 25fps).

If you want a test that doesn't depend on sound or require installing
extra software, look at your screensaver demos. They don't interface
with the soundcard at all -- just 2D and 3D graphics. If the
screensavers look like they are running at the same speed under both
your systems, then it's probably not the video driver at fault. That
should have been my tip-off to look elsewhere, but I ignored this data
point and still blamed the video driver.

One other thing that may or may not apply in your case: While trying to
solve this problem, I read about some people who had trouble if they had
an Intel and Radeon card in the same system (Intel on motherboard and
Radeon card). If they installed the radeon proprietary driver, then I
think the Intel card would get slow or broken. It didn't apply to me
though, so I didn't read it too closely.

[Bug 472982] Re: depmod doesn't respect /etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf config

2009-11-28 Thread st_
If you want extra to be special, you need to add it to the search
line in /etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf

I've tried this and it didn't help, that's why I've created the bug -
because depmod doesn't respect search line in
/etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf.

I've also tried to use DKMS to install my custom driver. DKMS puts
drivers into updates/dkm, which has highest priority in
/etc/depmod.d/ubuntu.conf, but it also doesn't help - depmod still
generates modules.alias with my custom driver at the end of the list
regardless of alias of my driver.

Hi,
Here is the translation of the piece that you asked:

Hi Rodikkk,

Thank you for helping Ubuntu better reporting this bug.

Please can you tell us if this is still an issue for you?

If so,

Your Dpkg log says:

Распаковывается замена для пакета linux-restricted-modules-generic ...
Настраивается пакет linux-headers-2.6.28-15-generic (2.6.28-15.49) ...

Please can you translate this to English?

Thanks

I'm going to mark the bug as 'Incomplete' to keep track on it. Please
feel free to mark it as 'New' if it still is an issue for you.

Re: [Bug 284235] Re: Firefox file-print-general selection 1, 3 prints pages 1-3

2009-11-28 Thread jorma.olavi
I'm using Firefox version 3.0.15 by Ubuntu version 9.04.
Just checked and results were :
1,3 printed pages 1 and 2 and 3.
1.3 printed page 1.
1-3 printed printed pages 1 and 2 and 3.
As I remember it is same as earlier, not possible to print pages 1 and 3.

Here I couldn't find version 3.5.5 from synaptic.

From my point of view, selection by page numbers should be like 1-5,
11, 14, 21-34 ... etc.
Of course, File -- printer (?) selection gives me VERY USEFULL
selection pf even / odd or right / left pages for two side printing.

[Bug 15451] Re: Kubuntu SMB issue with OpenOffice

2009-11-28 Thread Jonathan Thomas
From what I have seen, samba works fine in normal KDE dialogs. Any bugs
with the KDE4 OOo integration would likely be with the integration
patches themselves. Due to the complete difference of the KDE3 and KDE4
integration patches, I would advocate that a new bug be reported for any
smb issues found with OpenOffice in Kubuntu 9.10 and above.

[Bug 368056] Re: fr_CA locale: first day of week should be Sunday

2009-11-28 Thread Etienne Goyer
Fabian,

The fr_CA locale is pan-Canadian, not Québc-specific. The document
being cited is from the OQLF, a Québec provincial agency. As such, we
would need to confirm using a directive from the federal to be
absolutely sure.

However, it is my understanding that week begins on Monday in the French
locale. It is easy enough to test from the command line:

$ LC_ALL=fr_FR.utf8 cal

So, I am not quite sure which is correct, to be honest.

[Bug 489614] [NEW] [Hardy] Painfully slow gtk drawing

2009-11-28 Thread Skippy le Grand Gourou
Public bug reported:

Preamble : I had no access to this computer lately so couldn't test
many things, but this bug happened a few weeks ago, maybe after an
update, and is still valid. The computer is a Compaq R4000 laptop
series.

Bug description : Switching between windows, tabs or menus is painfully slow
for most applications (I am talking of 10s latencies) : Firefox and
gnome-terminal especially, a bit faster for Opera, normal for nautilus,
synaptic or wicd.
* Happens both under Gnome and XFCE.
* Seems linked to GTK applications.
* No problems with decorators, and though the computer is not using Compiz I
tested it and it didn't change anything.
* Doesn't seem to be a hardware issue since live cds of different other
distributions seem to work fine.
* Doesn't seem related to CPU issues either, it is not used that much.
Strangely, top shows two instances of Xorg — but killing the inactive one
doesn't help.
* The memory seems also fine, the swap is barely used.
* Tried fglrx and vesa, same issue. Moreover, glxgears seems fine.

I have not much to add, apart from the few attached files. I think won't able
to contribute to this report anymore, as I am going to install immediately
Karmic — as it is, the system is too much a pain to be usable. Last thing I
will try : I just noticed that SCIM is defunct, I am going to reboot afer
desactivating it and let you know.

[Bug 465318] Re: intel graphics laptop crashes with external monitor

2009-11-28 Thread Rob Rutten
Let me add to my comments #25 and #26 above: this bug kills all my
lecturing and makes me contemplate asking my wife to give the MacBrook
Pro back to me, and to quit my one-year foray into Ubuntu as a MacOSX
replacement. I don't know whether the blankout of the second monitor
(using the nomodeset fix in kernel loading) when video playing and
similar freezes on my own screen when video playing in IDL have to do
with this bug but together they kill the functionality of my Toshiba
R600 in my work even with the nomodeset fix. So I hope that this bug
gets some attention.

[Bug 489615] [NEW] avahi-daemon respawning too fast, stopped

2009-11-28 Thread Arseny Klimovsky
Public bug reported:

Debugging this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upstart/+bug/489327
I found something strange.

When boot in grub to recovery mode and while the menu is displayed
(resume boot, root shell, etc), I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Del.

And then I could see error messages, I attached the photo of the screen.

I'm not sure this is a bug in this package, but you should say for sure,
there the bug is. Or, possibly, there is no bug?
