[Bug 478398] Re: AC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will NOT be loaded.

2009-12-23 Thread Buz Cory
On further observation/thought --
This problem has only occurred three(3) times on many boots. same cd, same hw.

This tells me that the is caused by some sort of race condition,
probably in the initrd.

My suggestion is to mark this as a real, confirmed bug; low
mportance/priority and a notice that future false reports may be
ignored.

[Bug 500067] [NEW] lirc_zilog not built

2009-12-23 Thread Hilikus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lirc

The IR Blaster for the Hauppauge pvr-150 does not currently work out of the box

After following message #28 in

This is a very common card so i'm pretty sure many people are affected by this

i'll attach my working hardware.conf file for reference

[Bug 500066] [NEW] X display corruption switching users, uses 100% CPU, seg faults

2009-12-23 Thread Erik B. Andersen
Public bug reported:

To reproduce this bug (on Lucid):
1. login to a user. (We'll call it user #1)
2. Go to switch users
3. Login to another user (i.e. user #2)
4. Go to switch users
5. Try to login to user #1
6. Notice screen corruption. Try sshing in and running top. Notice Xorg
processes using 99-100 % CPU. (I expected it to switched to the already running
session belonging to user #1)
7. If you had gdb attached to the process, it will return to gdb prompt. Type
continue and the computer logs in. (if you didn't have gdb attached, then you
have to power off the computer, or run sudo init 6 to get back to normal)
8. Continuing on assuming you do have gdb atached, go to switch users again.
9. Attempt to login to user #2.(I expected it to switched to the already
running session belonging to user #2)
10. Notice how you get a background like the gdm, but with no dialog (i.e. the
thing that lets you choose users and enter passwords).
11. After waiting awhile, gdb says that the program seg faulted. typing
continue at the gdb prompt does nothing.

I tried to get a backtrace with gdb. I make a mistake at step 11; I
should have tried to get a backtrace instead of continuing, so I
killall'ed gdb and reattached it, and got another backtrace.

I will include a picture of the screen corruption that happens at step
6, and a picture of step 11.

[Bug 500065] [NEW] [Karmic, Jaunty] KDE powerdevil stops shifting power profiles

2009-12-23 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Hi,

This is probably a duplicate of #345492, but this one has been closed as
"invalid", so I submit as new with ubuntu-bug attached output.

System : Asus EeePC 1002HA - Kubuntu Karmic (also with Jaunty)

Symptom : After a few number of system suspend / resumes, not always the
first time, powerdevil stops shifting power profiles between
"performance" and "powersave" when AC is plugged or unplugged, even
though KDE continues notifying properly that power was plugged or
unplugged and powerdevil icon displays correct power status. Only the
"automatic power profile change" stops working until next reboot.

[Bug 462902] Re: Fan always running since karmic install

2009-12-23 Thread slumbergod
Actually, I should also add that not only is the fan hyperactive with
Karmic, but it manages to overheat the CPU to the point it shuts down
anytime it does anything intensive (converting a music file to ogg or
even watching certain mkv files with HD video).

Normally, the temp is 65 degrees which also seems a bit high.

Just did it but firefox didn't freeze.
Tested it out using

doesn't make sense that your freezing on that particular page because
it has no flash, the webpage is similar to the page you had to use to get
there.

[Bug 499519] Re: After latest mountall update on Lucid, mountall exits because it cannot connect to Plymouth

2009-12-23 Thread Stephen Cradock
I have rebooted after running fsck -f (from Karmic on another
partition), and now don't see plymouth running at all!

There is no sign of the ubuntu logo, and bootchart does not report it at
any stage (the bootchart I attached showed it running very briefly long
after the fsck tasks). On the other hand, boot time is now down to 54s,
which is almost as good as I've had so far. Normal resolution desktop
appears with everything working, except for Metacity as WM instead of
Compiz.

[Bug 500056] [NEW] After logging out, trying to switch user, and changing from vtty back to X system completely hangs with a black screen with ATI Mobility Radeon non-free Drivers

2009-12-23 Thread narnie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I have been waiting for karmic to see if it would fix a bug that I have
with suspending the computer. It did in fact, but now has this bug. When
I am logged in gnome and log out or switch user (and occationally when I
change between a vtty and X) I get a complete system freeze with a black
screen. I have read some similar bug reports, but it seems happens with
both the ATI driver and FGLRX from ATI. I do NOT have this problem with
the ATI driver, but sadly do with FGLRX.

When it hangs, I can't CTRL-ALT-BKSP, CTRL-ALT-DEL, nor, ALT-
SYSRQ-R-E-I-S-S-S-U-B either, so it seems to completely crash the
kernal, hence setting up for a remote log-in backtrace would likely be
futile.

I have an Intel Core 2 Due P7350 and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 card
on a Toshiba laptop running Karmic 64 bit.

Please let me know if any other info is needed. I tried apport, but
couldn't get it running on karmic.

The attached includes lspci, Xorg logs, dmesg, xrandr --verbose, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

[Bug 365200] Re: Mouse clicks not registered

2009-12-23 Thread Jason
I am also having the above issues. On another note, Firefox is
installed, but I use primarily Google Chrome. The issue is intermittent
and really strange, and above all this greatly disrupts my computer
usage. I have to start tabbing around the screen and using primarily the
keyboard to navigate and select items.

Also, this problem happens to me in both Ubuntu 9.10 and Mint Helena. I
have no idea what could be causing it. Please e-mail if any additional
information is needed. Thanks!

[Bug 499324] Re: ddjvu -format=pdf makes blank documents

2009-12-23 Thread Dave Walker
Юрий Аполлов:

I am using Ubuntu 9.10.

This string of commands produces a valid out.tiff which can be viewed
using Gwenview. It contains 38 pages.

sudo apt-get install djvulibre-bin
ddjvu -format=tiff in.djvu out.tiff

This command produces a pdf of the in.djvu file:

ddjvu -format=pdf -o out.pdf

I have attached the resulting pdf. I can see the contents of the pdf
which are pretty much the same as the contents of the resulting tiff
file from the earlier statement. I can view this pdf using Okular and
Evince.

I cannot find any bug in this process. What am I missing or what steps
are needed to reproduce the problem you are describing?

[Bug 500052] [NEW] Chess game makes illegal move

2009-12-23 Thread nickmbailey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

The computer in gnome-chess is making an illegal move. When I move a
white pawn adjacent to a black pawn, the computer will move the black
pawn diagonally as if the white pawn were one square down and remove the
white piece. See screenshots.

Starting with this setup

http://imgur.com/U2LRw&Mqgu6

I move the pawn from e2 to e4. Then the computer makes this move

http://imgur.com/delete/dJWiuhjxJM

Also the problem happens with the pawn at c2.

[Bug 477513] Re: FireFox crashes routinely karmic i386

2009-12-23 Thread grigori
hmm, read the bug-report plus comments for the first time now. seem to
have the same problem. i didn't bother because i couldn't find out
what's causing the crashes or how to reproduce them. however, i've
activated karmic-proposed and still have this problem.

well. after looking through the report and my configuration again, i
found out that i haven't even installed this uim package. am i in the
wrong bug report? 'cause it's the only one i found descibing my problem
accurately.

i have a frequently crashing firefox (3.5.7~hg20091204r26644+nobionly-
0ubuntu1~umd1~karmic) on an i386-karmic installation since changing from
ff3 to ff3.5. that was on jaunty. i did a clean install of karmic in
november, but the problem stayed the same.

A bit more clarification: I ran "pm-suspend" from the commandline and

hanging, and I had the full trace sitting in front of me.

[Bug 475530] Re: KIMPanel is unusable in Kubuntu 9.10

2009-12-23 Thread Yaohan Chen
I had to do the following to make the kimpanel plasmoid work with ibus:

1. Install kimpanel's ibus backend, which is not included in the Ubuntu
package.

wget
'http://websvn.kde.org/*checkout*/trunk/KDE/kdeplasma-addons/applets/kimpanel/backend/ibus/panel.py'
sudo mkdir /usr/share/ibus/ui/kimpanel
sudo cp panel.py /usr/share/ibus/ui/kimpanel

2. Make ibus-daemon use kimpanel. I do this by restarting ibus-daemon
with the --panel parameter after KDE starts. There are notes about this
at the bottom

cat > ~/.kde/Autostart/reload-ibus-daemon . If this
is actually the cause, maybe ibus needs to be modified to wait for the panel to
be loaded, or Ubuntu needs to have a way to delay launching ibus-daemon until
KDE is fully loaded?

[Bug 112355] Re: root's crontab not running

2009-12-23 Thread anoopjohn
I have the same problem on Ubuntu Intrepid. Roots cron is not running
and I dont get any errors in my log. Here is my crontab. I edit the file
using sudo crontab -e -u root

# m h dom mon dow command
45 07 * * * /sbin/shutdown -h now >> /home/poweruser/cron.log 2>&1
0/1 * * * * /usr/sbin/ntpdate clock.psu.edu >> /home/poweruser/cron.log 2>&1

There is a newline at the end of the file. This is a really frustrating
problem as I don't see any errors in /var/log/syslog related to why the
crontab is not running. I see that 'at' and 'cron' are indeed running.
Can somebody please tell me where else I should be looking to debug this
problem

Just enable apport by default and you'll be getting lots of cases.

[Bug 499519] Re: After latest mountall update on Lucid, mountall exits because it cannot connect to Plymouth

2009-12-23 Thread Stephen Cradock
I have used ubuntu-bug, which brought me here. Do you want more
information, James?

The symptoms are dramatic: the error message is

mountall: cannot connect to plymouth

bootchart shows that plymouthd does not start as expected, and the fsck
tasks are done without any delay.

There may or may not be other error messages: one I got was

cannot open session: no such file/directory

The machine takes a long time to boot (sometimes over 3 minutes,
compared to a normal < 1minute.) Sometimes I get the low-graphics
warning, which then starts the desktop in low-graphics mode. Other times
the desktop opens in normal resolution despite the error messages.
That's what happened in the case illustrated by the bootchart
attached.

What is quite clear is that mountall and/or Plymouth are not operating
as they were before the update on 12/23; Which is at fault is unclear,
but marking both bugs invalid won't make them work.

[Bug 500042] [NEW] package ureadahead 0.90.3-2 failed to install/upgrade: triggers ci file contains unknown directive syntax

2009-12-23 Thread roosteregg0
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ureadahead

Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala - released in October 2009 and supported until
April 2011
package version = ureadahead 0.90.3-2

I ran update manager and it showed some updates for cairo dock, i think open
office and a couple other programs in the programs list and in other (cant
remember the title) section it said some thing about a kernel image, kernel
patch and some other files with i think ureadahead in the list not sure. Half
of the way through the update my computer froze up ( not one of the freezes
that can be waited out(i think a problem with a memory chip)) so i hard
restarted my computer. after i had logged in i got several error messages about
updates that had failed to install. I ran update manager again and it showed
several of the updates again( cairo dock and such) but no kernel stuff so i hit
install updates and when they had almost finished( like the last step
(triggering menu or something)) it said that some of the applications/updates
had failed to install. This happens for any thing i have installed/upgraded
since. The programs and i assume updates work fine after i install them accept
for that error message.
Using synaptic to remove has failed and so has re installation and complete
removal.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ps wonderful os this is the only bug that hasn't been fixed with re
installation or a reboot.

[Bug 499537] Re: update manager cannot calculate upgrade

2009-12-23 Thread Dave Walker
Stringy:

Can you try this:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade -f

The -f should force it to fix any dependency issues and complete the
upgrade.

You can also try:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

dist-upgrade includes some mechanisms that can better handle changing
dependencies even of some newer packages.

[Bug 500038] [NEW] Whith the VIA VT1708B-CE sound card the system has not microphone, line in, etc.

2009-12-23 Thread miguelangeldavila
Public bug reported:

The microphone does not work. It not has a input selector in the input
tab into Sound Preferences. This Ubuntu version does not work properly
with the VIA VT1708B-CE, it recognizes the codec as VT1708B 8-Ch. which
is wrong, it has to be a problem related to ALSA, because OpenSUSE 11.2
has the same problem with this card.

Release 9.10

libasound2 1.0.20-3ubuntu6
alsa-base 1.0.20+dfsg-1ubuntu5
alsa-utils 1.0.20-2ubuntu6

The ALSA 1.0.22 does not solve the issue, after upgrading ALSA manually,
the system stops to recognize this card in particular, to verify that, I
installed a SB Live and the system recognized it perfectly while it does
not recognizes the VIA VT1708B-CE.
