[Bug 539390] [NEW] [ambiance, radiance] Window border and scrollbar-trough gradients are too pronounced

2010-03-15 Thread Gabriel Bauman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

The scrollbar trough's gradient is pretty "intense" when compared to the
window title bar gradient, or the default panel background gradient.

In the interest of subtlety and consistency, perhaps picking a standard
contrast difference and gradient size would be a good idea? If window
borders and scrollbar troughs matched the default panel gradient (nice
and understated) I would be a lot happier with these themes.

** Affects: light-themes (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 539391] [NEW] Bulgarian help content on LiveCD is not showling translated in boot menu

2010-03-15 Thread Krasimir Chonov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gfxboot-theme-ubuntu

When Bulgarian language is selected from the boot menu on LiveCD and F1
key is pressed for help, the text is only in English language. The
debian-help package is translated. This problem exist in Ubuntu 9.10 and
Ubuntu 10.04(development) 32/64-bit. Screenshot is applied. Maybe in
other flavours of Ubuntu but I wan`t tested it. I`ll test on other
flavours and give feedback.

[Bug 454402] Re: [TOSHIBA TECRA M9] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2010-03-15 Thread vgyo
Yes It is still an issue , with slight changes

  Bug description:

General BUG Description: Suspend works, resumes but screen always remains black
with no cursor
Hibernation always throws acpi errors; sometimes, after repeated
tries to turn off HDD, it succeeds
Other times, hibernate can't turn off HDD and cut power completely
to screen, so I keep pressing the power
button until shutdown. After, if I press the power button, it
resumes normally.

Laptop : Toshiba Tecra M9
OS : Karmic Koala x86
Graphics card : Nvidia Quadro NVS 130M
Vbios :60.86.49.00.26
Driver version: 185.18.36

Information Gathering:

Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?

1.Machine always suspends normally
2.Machine is never able to restore the screen on wake-up (screen is blank, and
no cursor)
3.Machine hibernates abnormally:
3.1.It always throws acpi -unable to dock errors and tries to turn off
HDD a couple of times(3-4)before it succeeds.
3.2.Sometimes(3-4 out of 10) hibernate cannot turn off HDD and power
completely off the screen
4.Machine always resumes normally from hibernation

Is it reproducible?

Yes. Mentioned above

Did it work before?

Never.(1st distro was 8.04 LTS)

Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar?

No.

Hibernate specific information --please see attached 1,2 and 3.txt
files

dmesg
cat /proc/cmdline
cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

Other information

Ran the suspend.sh --nothing happened
Ran the hibernate.sh -- hibernated with the same problems
Ran the stress tests -- hibernation and suspend worked (with the same mentioned
problems) on battery, on Ac power didn't work

Suspending from text mode

sudo pm-suspend --suspended the machine

DebuggingKernelSuspend

"resume-trace" debugging procedure for finding buggy drivers

sudo sh -c "sync; echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace; pm-suspend"

After the above, black screen tried to fix filesystem errors on my linux
partition I checked yes and rebooted

dmesg > dmesg.txt --see attached dmesg.txt file

Hibernating from text mode

sudo pm-hibernate--Did not turn off HDD, cursor kept blinking on a black
screen

Per sub-system hibernate testing

running the commands :

sudo -i

# lsmod > lsmod.output.txt

# echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test
# echo platform > /sys/power/disk
# echo disk > /sys/power/state
# dmesg > /tmp/dmesg-devices-platform.txt

# echo core > /sys/power/pm_test
# echo platform > /sys/power/disk
# echo disk > /sys/power/state
# dmesg > /tmp/dmesg-core-platform.txt

# echo core > /sys/power/pm_test
# echo reboot > /sys/power/disk
# echo disk > /sys/power/state
# dmesg > /tmp/dmesg-core-reboot.txt

did not produce any lsmod file
for other files , see atached files

HOPE THIS HELPS.
THANK YOU !

[Bug 539388] [NEW] nautilus preferences dialog too big for small screens

The nautilus preferences dialog is too big for small screens. Also in I

[Bug 539315] Re: Package Update Request: mplayer

2010-03-15 Thread Reinhard Tartler
The url you've posted does not point to a multithreaded capable version
of mplayer

Anyway, this is a wontfix request, in ubuntu we require mplayer to use a
system ffmpeg, and newer mplayer snapshots won't work with the system
ffmpeg. Updating ffmpeg is out of question for lucid, I'll do so for
lucid+1.

what we could do is to package a mplayer-snapshot package for the
motumedia PPA. this is indeed on my todo list.

[Bug 534040] Re: new light theme hangs for 20 seconds before desktop loads

2010-03-15 Thread electhor
This is still occurring, however, if I just log off and then login again once
the desktop is running, upon logging in again, the desktop loads very quickly.
I therefore wonder whether the hanging issue is related to startup rather than
gdm? I hope this is looked at as it is really annoying to have to wait
20seconds for the desktop to appear after login has been accepted.
Also I realised I quoted my previous cpu - my present cpu is amd 4800+.

the "doesn't match environment version 0.XXX" message was not consistent
-- when I did the original upgrade it was "0.44", but in my later
testing it started out at 0.143 and then kept getting larger.

It turns out that the format of the Berkeley DB "environment" file
changed between BDB 4.3 and 4.4, and in particular the location of the
bytes that encode the database version number changed. In the the case
of lucid's OpenLDAP tools (which use DBD v4.7) looking at the
environment file left over from hardy (v4.2), the bytes that are
interpreted as the "minor" version number actually contains the "Locks
granted without waiting" count.

So, for example, if I run
  db4.2_stat -e -N | head | grep "without waiting"
from within the BDB directory, the count shown will match the XXX printed in
the "environment version 0.XXX" message from slaptest.

This means that running some other command that changes the locks-
granted count [e.g. "db4.2_stat -e" , without the "-N" ] will actually
cause the XXX number to change between different attempts to run
slaptest .

It seems like the header format of the environment file was stabilized
as of db4.4, so db4.7 tools shouldn't have the same problem with files
generated by 4.4 and later. )

[Bug 539384] [NEW] Ensure name "simple scan" is not translated

2010-03-15 Thread Viale Fabrice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: simple-scan

The current package results in french to the installation of "numérisation
simple".
Translating the name of the software is an error (unfortunately not uncommon in
Ubuntu) :
- Generally speaking, Superman is known as Superman (not superhomme...).
Translating names is old-fashioned, and generally avoided now (eg. cities).
That leads further problems:
- The application menu, the title bar display "numérisation simple" while
Internet, blog, help file, about dialog box, and package name refer to the real
name "simple scan".

[Bug 539383] [NEW] Update time zone of the United States-Mexico border

2010-03-15 Thread Lord Red Dragon
Public bug reported:

Hello, I use the google translator, so I apologize if there is a misspelled
word, the clock of ubuntu do not display correctly when my city, I wrote my
question ( https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/104324 ) and I was
advised to write to the website of tzdata.
They told me they have everything in order, so I make my report here.

Basically, the problem is that in my city (Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico) and
entered the summer time (like other border cities, with the U.S.), but the
clock does not show me this change, continues with DST the rest of the country.
In border cities, daylight saving begins second Sunday in March at 2 am, while
in the rest of the country, remains unchanged (on 4 April or the first Sunday
in April). As a reference, I put the link of the news:
http://www.elmananarey.com/diario/noticia/tamaulipas/noticias/adelanta_frontera_cambio_de_horario/710450

Translated into English by google:

Finally, I attach the screenshot of the hour, my city and the
neighboring city (Brownsville, Texas), both cities should have the same
time, however, on my sample backward.

http://www.elmananarey.com/diario/noticia/tamaulipas/noticias/adelanta_frontera_cambio_de_horario/710450

Traducido al ingles por google:

Finalmente, adjunto el screenshot de la hora, de mi ciudad y la ciudad
vecina (brownsville, texas), ambas ciudades deben de tener la misma
hora, sin embargo, en la mía la muestra atrasada.

As a sidenode: PackageKit is a common layer on top of the native package

Since the currently tracked 0.5 branch of PackageKit won't allow any API
changes this issue is verly like to be solved in Lucid+1.

Hmmm. I'm unable to get more info. I can confirm these facts:
* I believe it is a resume failure. The system appears to get into the right
mode (pulsing power led), but when it comes back up it hard locks with the HD
led constant.
* It is reproducible 100%
* The caps lock key does not flash
* It is not X related, it does the same thing from single user mode.
* Using pm_trace does clear up the bios/rtc, but no magic hash info comes out
of dmesg.

I'll try a lucid build next and give it a shot.

[Bug 537137] Re: No non-destructive way for a normal user to escape frozen full-screen apps

2010-03-15 Thread Supernatendo
I too have ran into fullscreen applications where it would be convenient
if the ctrl+return alt+tab or ctr+shift+esc or ctr+alt+backspace either
(respectively) minimized, tabbed to the desktop or other window, killed
the current fullscreen app, or brought up a task manager GUI to easily
kill misbehaving apps that are taking up the full screen and grabbing
the keymaps...

This mainly happened after an update broke my alsa + pulseaudio to where
I had to follow these instructions
http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1395089 to get it fixed

But now, every time I load an application the volume is set too low to
hear and I need to re-adjust it. This is when I noticed that there is
currently no way to exit some fullscreen games without closing the
program. At least a few (such as World of Goo) allowed me to alt+return
to window the application, but unfortunately some FOSS developers are
not as thoughtful as 2Dboy apparently...

booting with radeon.modeset=0 added to your kernel command line and then
they will work.

[Bug 539371] [NEW] Translation template includes unused strings

2010-03-15 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

As can be seen in
 for example, the
translation template includes the strings "available", "channel",
"installed", and "pending".

These strings aren't used anywhere in the interface, so they shouldn't
need to be in the translation template.

[Bug 523850] Re: onBoard menu items are unhelpful

2010-03-15 Thread Սահակ
Also menu items are not GNOME HIG compliant.

According to GNOME HIG http://library.gnome.org/devel/hig-book/stable
/desktop-application-menu.html.en#menu-item-tooltips

menu item tooltips should be phrased as an imperative verb. Onboard's
menu item tooltip is "Flexible onscreen keyboard for GNOME" and is not
phrased as an imperative verb.

[Bug 539369] [NEW] iwlagn wifi does not work with 4GB RAM in 8.04 LTS x86_64

2010-03-15 Thread Peter Watkins
Public bug reported:

I have an Intel-based laptop that's been running 8.04 LTS no problem for
a year, with 2 GB of RAM installed. I replaced both RAM modules to
upgrade to 4GB of RAM, tested with memtest86+ (several full passes, no
errors), and then booted into 8.04 LTS again. The wireless (iwlagn) does
not work with 4 GB of RAM in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS x86_64 (but works fine in
32-bit Windows Vista and 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 -- so the hardware clearly
is capable of using wifi with 4GB of RAM).

[Bug 422159] Re: AVR Stick and other ATtinyx5 USB devices aren't recognized

2010-03-15 Thread tz
BTW - the apport-collect seems to be broken - it did something with
launchpad, then gave some error message after asking me a bunch of
questions and complaining about the internet connection (which was
working perfectly for everything else).

Do you want me to test and report bugs or not? If you are going to have
broken automated stuff, could you at least give a manual path for when
it fails?

the installation with quad core 3.2 Ghz on a fast hard disk.

[Bug 539367] [NEW] The homepage in ubuntu-art still says "Ubuntu 9.10" instead of 10.04

2010-03-15 Thread Sam Townsend
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork

/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/index.html, the default homepage in
Epiphany and possibly other browsers, still says "Ubuntu 9.10". This
should be updated for 10.04, with the version number and new ubuntu
logo.

Sojourner,

Sorry that I had dropped the ball on this bug, I have just followed your
directions for duplicating the bug on Karmic, and it works as designed.
If you install gnome-sharp2-examples first, then gnome-sharp2 it doesn't
remove anything and installs without any flaws on by 64-bit Karmic.

[Bug 532224] Re: [ambiance, radiance] no rounding when window has no maximise icon

2010-03-15 Thread Umang
As good as I though the idea was, I've realized one problem that cannot
be fixed, try this: "minimize,maximize:close"

I think the only way out, and I don't know whether it is possible for us
to patch for Ubuntu. The ideal situation would be to have four
backgrounds instead of three: left (if n > 1), right (if n > 1) center
(if n > 2) and single background (n=1). Here n is the number of buttons
that are together.

I'm not really into all this, so I have no idea whether
 - it is possible to create such a patch only for Ubuntu, without breaking
other themes
 - any Lucid freeze, that doesn't allow a patch for metacity, is in place (UI
Freeze?)
 - it is at all possible to do something like this given how metacity works (I
don't know how metacity works).

[Bug 538610] Re: keyring doesn't store the passwords

2010-03-15 Thread malev
I'm not sure if I understand you.
The first time it ask me about the pass I entered one, but it keeps asking me
about it.
Then I delete the login.keyring file (I remember there was a default.keyring
file too). In fact I deleted all the directory. So it asked me for configuring
a new password for the keyring. So I configured a new one, but the window keeps
appearing. I dig a little more and I've found the /var/log/auth.log file.
I hope this was what you mean...

[Bug 316514] Re: MASTER: Multiple video cards not supported

2010-03-15 Thread djtoast
I also tried very hard to get this type of setup working without much
sucess

2x nvidia cards. (Different versions ex.. 1 is 265gtx and the other cheap
8600 i beleive)
3 monitors.

at best I could get 2 monitors on same car using xinerama and 1 stand
alone x.

I baught my new computer to do 3 monitors. unfortunately this means
that i had to do the dreadfull thing of using windows as my operating
system :(

Hope this gets better support in the future,

[Bug 455694] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor asks for authentication all the time

2010-03-15 Thread Phillip Susi
Indeed, changing the policy from auth_admin_keep to yes does the trick.
The package uses quilt for patch management, but also seems to be
maintained in BZR on launchpad so I'm not sure how I should go about
submitting the change. Do I make a quilt patch and attach the debdiff
here? Do I make a bzr branch on lp and add the quilt patch to that? Or
do I just directly make the change on a bzr branch, and link it here?

[Bug 289925] Re: Segmentation fault on amd64 in glutInitDisplayMode()

2010-03-15 Thread Mike C. Fletcher
This bug was fixed for the 3.0.1 release by disabling GL error-checking
on GLUT functions. This is another case of (some) newer GL
implementations being extremely anal about calls to GL entry points
before there is a GL context. Basically the glGetError() calls were
seg-faulting because GLUT didn't have a context set up yet.
