[Bug 405294] Re: a2dp skips terribly in Karmic

2010-03-23 Thread Chris Carlin
I'm sorry, Baptiste, you're completely wrong.

The adapter doesn't show this problem under Windows, and it doesn't show
the problem under previous versions of bluez.

The adapter works. It's a code issue.

Reopening.

[Bug 545654] Re: package exim4-config 4.69-11ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-03-23 Thread Monkey
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as
a bug in exim4.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Re: [Bug 80921] Re: No subpixel rendering

2010-03-23 Thread Tobias Wolf
Hello Anders, you just caught me being sloppy. I needed a method to
override the packaged versions and by trial and error it appeared that I
have to increment ubuntuX. I had been using this method for a while when
I figured I can save work for myself if skip incremental updates during
development period if I use ubuntuX+n.

Perhaps I should use a bit more care considering that these packages are
also consumed publicly.

On another note, you posted a patch in 2007 to the upstream bug report.
Can’t we do anything to close this upstream? I know upstream wants a
patch and sees no difference between LCD filter and no filtering anyhow.
But really.

And then there’s the issue that Carl Worth removed the LCD filtering API
from Cairo because some test suite images came out differently. In PDF
rendering we cannot follow the desktop settings because only slight
hinting and the across-pixel filter work properly on PDFs. We have to
have control over the font rendering settings.

[Bug 491236] Re: aptitude does not respect /etc/apt/preferences

Ouch. This just "upgraded" my netatalk package, replacing my openssl-
enabled version and knocking all the Mac OS 9 clients used for running
critical legacy apps off the network. Yes, I should've noticed it in the
(huge) list of packages affected, but then aptitude shouldn't have
upgraded it either.

$ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/netatalk

Prefer aptitude over apt-get, indeed.

[Bug 545762] [NEW] Installation of fglrx-amdcccle 2:8.721-0ubuntu5 crashes video

2010-03-23 Thread QIII
Public bug reported:

Release:  Lucid Lynx
Package:  fglrx-amdcccle 2:8.721-0ubuntu5
Expected behavior: Installation expected to drive video properly
Actual behavior: After installation, system allowed me to select user and
enter password. Immediately thereafter, however, the screen went blank. It
was not simply a "blank screen" Xserver issue. The monitors actually lost
signal and stopped.
Remediation: Reboot, drop to root with networking, remove fglrx and
fglrx-amdcccle, reboot.

Unfortunately, I had not previously changed the logging flag in bootlogd
to "yes" to capture the boot messages, so I can't be of help there.

I will see what other logging I can dig up to help with the process of
debugging.

Killing an X session is one thing. Killing output from the card to the
monitors is probably not good on the hardware.

The blue bar across the bottom of the screen marks that as an alpha, not
a beta. Please focus on the beta images; there's no sense in testing
the obsolete alphas now.

Can you attach the output of 'lspci' from this system?

I can't remember removing any fonts. I added ubuntu-restricted-extras
which added mscorefonts, I believe.

Fonts on the desktop are all fine. Is there a way to change the GDM
font? Or is this a permission problem somewhere? I actually had this
happen to me once before on the desktop. I added some fonts by hand and
forgot to change permissions so they were readable by all. But I just
checked in /usr/share/fonts and everything looks ok.

[Bug 545749] [NEW] 2.6.32-17 introduces new startup/bootup issues on Acer Aspire 4530

2010-03-23 Thread Asif Youssuff
Public bug reported:

With the new kernel, plymouth regresses to a text mode splash (if it
loads at all, it seemed to have loaded upon the first boot after
install, but hasn't appeared since).

Also, Xorg doesn't autoconfigure properly -- GDM starts up (I hear the
startup sound), but no video appears -- it loads up with a reddish color
of random pixels.

virtual terminals have issues as well -- most of the terminal is off of
the screen -- the viewable area is at the lower right, and nothing loads
up in the top half of the screen. Filing this report was a major pain
because of this.

If I create an xorg.conf, I can get into X, but I didn't do that for
this report, since Xorg autoconfiguration should work. If it would be
useful to attach files with a working Xorg, let me know.

[Bug 545754] [NEW] ACPI video brightness not working(FN+F7 FN+F8)

2010-03-23 Thread 00oo00
Public bug reported:

No brightness control on Ubuntu 9.10. I asked some people in IRC they said
this is a ACPI or kernel bug.
I`ve cat my ACPI files report of my laptop. My FN+F7 is for brightness up,
FN+F8 is for brightness down. Everytime I boot Ubuntu 9.10 it automatically
adjust my screen brightness from the darkest to the brightest. But no controlat
the desktop. I tried tty1 mode to get the keycodes of these two keys but no
return. It`s a bug I think. Hope this info helps to fix it.

[Bug 544959] Re: new gwibber icon (proposed)

2010-03-23 Thread Vish
@Sergey "Shnatsel" Davidoff: The artwork mailing list hasnt "approved" the
icon. It was just replies by people who liked your icon, and they aernt part of
the humanity team ;-)
The artwork mailing list is just a community art mailing list, where we share
ideas :-)

This is a big branding change , it needs to be done in Gwibber Upstream. [And
from what i know , upstream doesnt want to use icons as specific to Ubuntu]
Humanity doesnt change the branding of applications. All icons are just generic
icons. Some like babao which were quite oldish icons , had to be updated. We
dont include application icons. Else, there are a lot of icons we'd want to
change ;-)

[Bug 545745] Re: Edges of desktop have colored lines

2010-03-23 Thread Tesselode
I just remembered I was going to say that running xprop WM_CLASS and
clicking on the desktop seemed to suggest that Nautilus was the cause of
the problem, but I wasn't sure. Bug #507263, which is quite similar,
also seems to suggest this.

[Bug 545745] [NEW] Edges of desktop have colored lines

2010-03-23 Thread Tesselode
Public bug reported:

Colored lines appear on the edges of the desktop in Ubuntu 10.04 beta 1.
This seems to change based on the theme; for example, when using the
Clearlooks theme, the lines have a blue to white gradient. Unlike bug
#507263, this happens all the time, not just when creating or renaming
items.

[Bug 486154] Re: System beep broken in Karmic despite heroic efforts to fix it

2010-03-23 Thread Robert Schroll
Just to confirm my previous assertion, I installed the Lucid beta on a virtual
machine. I applied my patch [1], restarted metacity, and unloaded and reloaded
Pulse Audio's module-x11-bell [2]. System bells rang the same bell.ogg sound
file, but through Pulse Audio. Additionally, I could now set the volume with
`xset b`. Thus, using this patch would result in the *exact same* behavior as
currently exists, except that Pulse Audio is making the noise instead of
metacity. Stopping the behavior, to reenable to PC speaker, is now just a
matter of unloading the module. Additionally, there are fringe benefits:
1) No delay while metacity loads the sample the first time it's needed.
2) No rate limiting of playback by metacity.
3) Consistent handling of system bell events between metacity and compiz.

Honestly, what more is desired? In several bugs related to this, I have
yet to hear a good explanation for why metacity should be handling
system bell events. Here's a chance to switch this capability to a more
sensible sub-system and solve several bugs or potential bugs all at
once. Why are we not jumping all over this? (Sorry to sound shrill,
but I'm rather frustrated at this point.)

[1] It didn't quite apply cleanly, but it was easy enough to clean up by
hand. I wasn't planning on posting a new patch for Lucid, but if it's
desired, let me know.

[2] I don't know why un- and re-loading the module-x11-bell was
necessary, but I suspect that it's related to the fact that the old
metacity had been trapping the system bell events. I suspect, but
haven't confirmed, that this won't be necessary once the new metacity is
installed and X is restarted.

[Bug 545724] Re: This version of Ogre is too old please upgrade before 10.04 release

2010-03-23 Thread Andrew Fenn
I have noticed we now have two different versions of Ogre in lucid.
libogremain-1.6.4 and libogremain-1.6.1 however we don't have a package
that links to the latest version like there is for other packages in
ubuntu.

Can I suggestion adding libogremain-1.7.0 and then creating an empty
libogremain package that depends upon it.

Just curious, I might have been the guy who set this thread in the
begining.

But, how does dear apple inc do it? Thats really nice and I have never heard
anyone complain. Feels like we are reinventing the wheel here, when there
seems to be a really appreciated out there.

If somebody seems to have got it right, it seems like Apple is the one right
now.

Cheers

[Bug 545739] [NEW] lucid - php not parsed in user directory

2010-03-23 Thread krishna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

After upgrading to Lucid, PHP files in user directories are not parsed.
You get a pop-up to download the php file. PHP files in the server root
run fine.

This issue has been solved by another early adopter:
http://marco.tondela.org/2010/03/your-public_html-with-php5-isnt-
working-in-ubuntu-lucid/

It appears that "php_admin_value_engine On" is no longer working.

[Bug 545733] [NEW] In Programming mode, the top row of binary numbers (33 to 63) are not working as designed.

2010-03-23 Thread Michael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

Expected behaviour is that by clicking on 0 values in the binary field, they
should toggle to become the number 1 and it's decimal value will appear on the
display. Toggling additional 0's to 1's will add their value in a cumulative
effect.

Odd behaviour that is occuring is primarily happening with the top row
(bin numbers 33 to 63) toggling those 0's wipe out the lower values and
odd results on the display.

I have a 64bit computer and Ubuntu Lucid 64. But the 64 bit aspect of
the binary numbers are not working properly.

Thank you.

[Bug 545728] [NEW] [STAGING] TOSHIBA T110, wlan card still doesn't drive properly on Lucid

2010-03-23 Thread Viaxl
Public bug reported:

ppl trying to install Ubuntu on Toshiba T100 series would face a "Kernel panic"
(mine is T110)

this is temporarily solved using ndiswrapper as described here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1316079

I report this again because I installed the new Lucid and the problem
still exists

here's some details:

1. I need to disable wlan card in bios before installing ubuntu or the
progress bar would froze forever

2. after installing I need to blacklist rtl8187se (wlan card module of
the machine), so I could login to the system with wlan enabled and using
ndiswrapper to make it work

3. * AFTER ndiswrapper make the wlan work. I could do
rmmod ndiswrapper
modprobe rtl8187se
to make it work with native driver, this is weird..

hope you smart guys can fix this in the final version. I can't rely on
ndiswrapper forever =)

PS people with a toshiba T135 seems have got a new version of driver by which
their wlan can work fine (rtl8192se)
but T110 doesn't..

[Bug 423648] Re: Package heavily out of date

2010-03-23 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi,

Sorry for the late answer (my motherboard died more than one moth ago,
and I'm still trying to get a fully working env).

As far as I can tell, Charles uploaded a new version 2.1.12-2 that should fix
the FTBFS, so you should change the title and the description of the bug report
to reflect that (requestsync can help you with the content of the sync request).
The bad news is that as we are past Feature Freeze, you should follow the FFe
process described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess.

Sorry,
Fabrice

[Bug 537637] Re: Outdated version 4.2.0 in Lucid

Please sync rsyslog 4.6.1-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Sorry, I'm uncertain of this.

Explanation of FeatureFreeze exception:
4.6.x marks the end of feature development in 4.x. Bugs will continue
to be fixed, but features will be introduced in 5.x only.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 4.2.0-2ubuntu8:

rsyslog (4.6.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fix error in rsyslog.conf(5) man page. The configuration variable
  $InputUDPServerRun does not exist, it should be $UDPServerRun instead.
  Thanks to Alexander Gerasiov for spotting this. Closes: #571202
  * debian/rsyslog-doc.install
- Install png image files.
  * debian/patches/doc_typo_fix.patch
- Removed, merged upstream.
  * debian/patches/no_create_db.patch
- Refresh to apply cleanly.
  * debian/control
- Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.4. No further changes.
  * debian/rsyslog.install
- Install new lmstrmsrv.so and lmzlibw.so plugins.
  * debian/rsyslog.lintian-overrides
- Add lintian override for init.d-script-missing-dependency-on-remote_fs
  false positive. See also the corresponding lintian bug: #571280.
  * debian/rules
- Add call to dh_lintian.
  * debian/rsyslog.init
- GNU/kFreeBSD does not allow to create pipes in /dev. So for xconsole
  create the pipe as /var/run/xconsole and a /dev/xconsole symlink.
  Closes: #537170

 -- Michael Biebl   Fri, 05 Mar 2010 01:07:53 +0100

rsyslog (4.4.2-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/control
- Demote mysql-server and postgresql from Recommends to Suggests. The
  server packages are not strictly necessary for dbconfig-common's
  autoconfiguration to work and one might want to use a remote server.
- Add Recommends: mysql-client for rsyslog-mysql.
- Add Recommends: postgresql-client for rsyslog-pgsql.
  * debian/patches/doc_typo_fix.patch
- Fix a typo in the html documentation and man page regarding the syslog.h
  header file and the syslog(3) man page. Closes: #559334
  Thanks to Alexander Gerasiov for spotting this.

rsyslog (4.4.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.

 -- Michael Biebl   Sat, 10 Oct 2009 14:08:16 +0200

rsyslog (4.4.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- Fix invalid double-quoted PRI in log messages. Closes: #543505
  * debian/watch
- Only check for stable upstream releases.
  * debian/patches/testbench-java.patch
- Removed, merged upstream.

rsyslog (4.4.0-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Removed patches
- debian/patches/manpage_pidfile.patch (merged upstream)
- debian/patches/close-stdout-stderr.patch (merged upstream)
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.3. No further changes.
  * Disable testbench as it requires java.
  * debian/patches/testbench-java.patch
- Move check_JAVA inside the ENABLE_TESTBENCH section so the tests are not

[Bug 545726] [NEW] Startup applications launch before panel and become lost

2010-03-23 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

A have a added a few items to System -> Preferences -> Startup
Applications. One of these is loading very quickly and on a fresh boot
starts up before my panels, so there is no notification area. Its icon
appears in the top left corner of the screen and will shortly be covered
by the panel. Logging out and logging in again things work fine, as the
panel loads much faster with everything in cache.

I've only seen this happen with one of my startup applications
(jungledisk-monitor), so this might be an fault there such as not
blocking until a notification area is available.

[Bug 522666] Re: runtimepath lets system settings override user settings

2010-03-23 Thread James Vega
The order of directories in 'runtimepath' is intentional and follows the
way that Vim upstream orders the directories. The only difference is
that the /var/lib/vim/addons{,/after} directories are inserted.

Using the after/ directories isn't a workaround. The entire reason they
exist is so the system-wide settings can be overridden by users. I'm
not sure what you mean by "many vim filetype plugins do not come with
after/ hooks". Just create a new file in ~/.vim/after/ftplugin/ that
matches the ftplugin's name in the non-after directory and it will get
sourced.

the same is for MySQLdb (mysql-python) module. There are many modules
