[Bug 420724] Re: Wallpaper tray Picture Selection Mode Configuration Setting is broken.

2010-05-23 Thread Roth Róbert
This package is not available in the Lucid repositories. Do you know
where can I download the package for testing, or should this bug be set
as invalid, because the package it refers to is not available anymore.

Sorry for the long delay in responding -- I was meaning to test this but
didn't get around to it. I just tested it out and the backlight was
reactivated coming out of standby mode. (Can't say I haven't found other
issues with nouveau, but anyway.)

[Bug 525368] Re: problem when adding new panels to gnome desktop

2010-05-23 Thread Mickeal
I am brand new to anything but windows. I have installed this OS over
and over again for a week now. So far I have learned to force the
installer to recognize my other multiple hard drive OS's mess with
grub2... install and remove things and countless other stuff. As I go
along I keep having issues.

I have one very similar to this if not the same. On boot I get multiple
errors as above with all my taskbar applets, can no longer right click
anything to copy text or past, tried removing apps, adding them, and
even as I said earlier re-installing the OS. As soon as I do an
update BOOM!!! Its back!

One thing I noticed on all the forums... This issue has been around
since 2008 in varying degrees. This is sad because I really liked the
idea of gettin' past my Windrawals. Here I go again with yet ANOTHER re-
install. This time NO updates until it is "resolved"... hopefully.

I'm great at fixing windows problems, I think I'll be a master by the
time it's the way I like it ;-)

[Bug 584825] [NEW] man2html needs partitioning

2010-05-23 Thread Russel Winder
Public bug reported:

Currently the man2html package depends on the Apache stack. The package
comprises a CGI component, which clearly requires the Apache stack, and
a man page to HTML page compiler which I believe is not dependent on the
Apache stack. Having the man page to HTML page compiler available
separately without the need to install the Apache stack would be a
serious improvement in the package structure. Currently it is not
possible to install the man2html command via packages on a machine which

[Bug 584826] [NEW] gnome panel sometimes icons disappears

2010-05-23 Thread Antonio Litterio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hi folks
I'm reporting a problem in Ubuntu 10.04 32bit. I've noticed that sometimes some
icons indicator in upper Gnome panel disappear. For example sometime is
shoutdown restore button to disappear or is networkmanager or audio indicator.
I'm not able to reproduce these because they are random, I think.
I've noticed that some other people have this problem.

Antonio

[Bug 505916] Re: UDHCPC not fetching lease from Windows DHCP server

2010-05-23 Thread robanon
I found with ltsp-server version 5.2.1-0ubuntu9 on Ubuntu 10.4 I still
needed to remove the "-c" option because when the clientid was specified
as a kernel parameter the client did receive an IP address but was not
able to connect to the nbd-server?

To rebuild the initrd RAMDISK imagine I needed to use the -H (newc)
option to cpio otherwise the image would not load.

[Bug 584823] [NEW] should grab keyboard when in fullscreen mode

2010-05-23 Thread Glenn Washburn
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: Lucid
Package Version: 1.3.9-6
Expected outcome: When in full screen mode, pressing F8 key should display
popup menu which would allow for getting out of full screen mode.
Actual outcome: No popup appears when pressing F8, so its difficult to get out
of full screen mode.

The fix for this is to add something like "Vncviewer*grabKeyboard: true" to
your Xresources. In the post install phase of the package something like the
following steps should occur:
1. echo "Vncviewer*grabKeyboard: true" > /etc/X11/Xresources/xtightvncviewer
2. xrdb -merge /etc/X11/Xresources/xtightvncviewer

The resource should probably be removed if the package is removed, but
not removing it is not strictly necessary.

This problem and solution is mentions in the man file for
xtightvncviewer (look for grabKeyboard).

[Bug 533409] Re: pidgin do not minimize to notification applet

2010-05-23 Thread Bolick
Diego, "Preferences | Interface| Show system tray icon: always" helps to get an
ordinary Pidgin as it always was - Pidgin icon in tray, not in "Indicator
applet".
But as it is set by default in Pidgin's settings and IMHO as it was desired by
those who developed Lucid, all messaging apps (Empathy, Pidgin, Evolution,
Gwibber and so on) should use special part of "Indicator Applet".
And AFAIK Empathy, Evolution, Gwibber all work well with this Indicator applet.
Neither does Pidgin.
It seems very strange, that nobody cares.

[Bug 568826] Re: Ubuntu One Preferences freezes when opened

2010-05-23 Thread André Savik
I, too, have exactly the same issue as Thomas Nordstrøm. To put it
bluntly, Ubuntu One has never worked at a level even close to a
professional product, and I now understand it probably never will.

The essential problem I pointed out in https://bugs.launchpad.net
/ubuntuone-client/+bug/482851 still remains: Ubuntu One's developers
have made a concious choice to hide serious error conditions from their
users.

Incidentally, I'm cancelling my subscription to Ubuntu One and moving my
files over to Dropbox, which still works without a hitch.

Re: [Bug 584564] Re: Wrong uuid in menu.lst

2010-05-23 Thread Olof Staffans
I have to apologize: Please ignore this error report!

After studying the different menu.lst more carefully I think that I
found the reason for this behavior, and it is basically my own fault:

I found the following (inappropriate) lines in the menu.lst on one of
the partitions that produced the wrong uuid-numbers.

## default kernel options
## default kernel options for automagic boot options
## If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z
## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted.
## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8=root=/dev/hdc1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8_2_686=root=/dev/hdc2 ro
# kopt=root=UUID=6574fd38-cc2b-4137-89ad-6790234a7328 ro

## default grub root device
## e.g. groot=(hd0,0)
# groot=6339b283-19ff-41fa-b65d-355724881e1e

Apparently, I had at some point copied the file menu.lst from one
partition to another, and this resulted in the wrong options.

Sorry :)

Here is the output of the blkid that you asked for:

[Bug 565058] Re: Lucid: hotplugging Huawei E220 doesn't load 'option' module

2010-05-23 Thread Timo Jyrinki
What about now? I borrowed one E220 and it's working fluently for me in
10.04 LTS, with and without usb-modeswitch being installed (reboot in
between). It also connected both when attached after boot or before boot
(before boot only tested without usb-modeswitch).

In each case, option module seems to be loaded automatically. Can people
confirm the fix? ...and maybe someone found out where something was
changed so this got fixed?

USB id is 12d1:1003. I wonder if there are multiple Huawei E220
revisions around or something else that would explain this.

[Bug 541620] Re: Ralink RT3090 Wireless Not Supported in Lucid

2010-05-23 Thread Neil L. Jackson
The steps in Comment #21 provided an effective workaround for this bug
for me. They worked on a SONY VAIO M (Model VPCM111AX/W (Atom N450))
with a RaLink RT3090 on Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). Initially I was booting
from USB so the steps worked fine but had to be repeated each time the
system was restarted. Then I installed to the hard drive and the steps
again worked fine and the fix is persistent.

[Bug 298217] Re: no second attempt and no feedback when wrong password entered

2010-05-23 Thread Twisted Lincoln, Inc.
This is not a bug in gksu, at least not as of Lucid. It is a bug in
sudo. Downgrading sudo to the version in the Karmic-Updates repository
fixes this problem. However downgrading the gksu package does not fix
it, indicating the issue is with the sudo package alone.

2010-05-23 Thread Ubulindy
Luke Yelavich hi. Please let me know what info you need and how I go about
getting it, so I can get you enough info that you will mark this bug as
complete and legit.
As I google around trying to find a fix for this I see Im not alone. Most agree
has has something to do with alsa and the default now being pulse audio I
believe. In the gnome volume manager under input, I have no "microphone" or
"line in" option like I always had. Im Multi Media Selector, there is no
detection of the internal mic. I can plug in an external mic however and it
works. Big disadvantage for Skype users ect., and for me. Seems its like a hit
and miss. Some laptops have working mics and some dont.
Anyways let me know where to get the logs, ect, and/or commands to run so I can
get you the info you need.

after the C++0x standard comes out and everyone can use futures and
asynchronous function call. Ubuntu has ejected the libboost-mpi-dev
package and all related Boost.MPI packages. There is therfore now no
way of installing Boost.MPI on Ubuntu via packages. Scott Kitterman
wrote in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boost-
defaults/+bug/531973, point 15 that there is an objective rationale to
this. Debian however are not following this rationale, they retain the
Boost.MPI packages, so either have found a way of solving the issue
Scott outlines or have chosen not to be bound by that issue.

Unless Ubuntu provides some way of installing Boost.MPI from packages
then everyone who uses C++ and Boost.MPI will have to cease using Ubuntu
and switch to Debian, or one of the RPM-based distributions.

Re: [Bug 498182] Re: Indicator Applet does not support vertical panels

2010-05-23 Thread Jeremy Nickurak
There's a question of whether people should be able to decide the
orientation of a panel item on the panel vertical applets on horizontal
panels, or horizontal applets on vertical panels but that's an argument
to take upstream I think.

The behavior of 99% of applets on a vertical panel is that they rotate to
fit the smaller width. The task list is an exception to that rule (I believe
an unfortunate one), but it's the only one there, afaik.

[Bug 584816] [NEW] note fails in non-interactive mode

2010-05-23 Thread Nemo Thorx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: note

I use note across both debian and ubuntu, both using 1.3.3-6
this was successful before a clean install to Lucid 10.04

In lucid, in non-interactive mode (in accordance with my .noterc file), note
errors with
Error in option spec: "dump||Dump|D:s"

This occurs on -l -L -t -T or -D

When the .noterc option "AlwaysInteractive" is changed from NO to YES,
then `note` with no options enters interactive mode as expected and works fine.

The options previously mentioned still fail however...

I have backed up my .notedb file and created new notes using the ubuntu
`note` only, with the same effect.

Actually this is the defined behavior of PackageKit, see

"The search methods should return all results in all repositories. This
may mean that multiple versions of package are returned. If this is not
what is wanted by the client program, then the newest filter should be

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2010-05-23 Thread J Bruni
Wondering aloud

If the application that owns the clipboard provides its contents
(unavailable once it is closed)...

What if we always make Xserver itself be this application (the owner of
the contents), and thus always serve its contents (always available!)

i.e., when the user copies (CTRL+C) or cuts (CTRL+V) instead of stopping
at the point where the current application is "flagged as owner"... just
go ahead and transfer contents + ownership to Xserver so, when the
user pastes (CTRL+V) elsewhere, it will retrieve contents from
Xserver... it doesn't matter if source application is opened or
closed...

Makes sense?

Do we need a more complicated "design" for the solution? Or can we move
forward by finding out how to implement the idea above?

@MFV not sure what you are saying -- I did completely remove all traces
of the previous OS by writing zeroes to the SSD, but after several
cycles of this and through several versions of Ubuntu at some point the
SSD may have worn out. I will try it again in a few weeks once I contact

"speed of an SSD" part is almost funny to consider -- these are flash

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2010-05-23 Thread J Bruni
I don't want to wait for Zealous Zebu (Ubuntu 17.04) to see this
resolved.

As a user, I want to use copy/paste being able to paste from a closed
application. (Why leave it open, then go back only to close it?)

As a developer, I work with PHP doing simple web applications. I don't
know about complex details on X-server using C language.

Anyway, I just want to contribute by sharing here some information about
WHERE is the SOURCE CODE that deals with this issue and how to GET it.
Others, like me, may want to "poke around" and, perhaps, ...help to
develop a solution!

The package name is xserver-xorg-core

We can get the source code with the following command:

apt-get source xserver-xorg-core

I am using Lucid Lynx, and apt-get brought me Xserver 1.7.6 source code
files.

Alternatively, if "git" is installed, repository can be cloned with the
following command:

git clone git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server

We can find several references to "clipboard" using "grep":

cd xorg-server*
grep -r "clipboard" *

Most important files seems to be:

hw/xwin/winclipboard.h
hw/xwin/winclipboardinit.c
hw/xwin/winclipboardthread.c
hw/xwin/winclipboardwndproc.c
hw/xwin/winclipboardxevents.c
hw/xwin/winclipboardwrappers.c
hw/xquartz/pbproxy/x-selection.m

Comprehensive information on how to compile Xserver can be found here:
http://www.x.org/wiki/CompileXserverManually

I am not sure, but it seems that the latest developer who made changes in the
Xserver clipboard management code is Harold L. Hunt. So, if someone wants to
resolve this, I recommend asking directions to him - http://huntharo.com -
huntharo (at) gmail.com

Another developer that seems to have dealed with Xserver clipboard
issues is Colin Harrison - http://sourceforge.net/users/colinharrison

Hope this helps...

Good luck for us all!

[Bug 584812] [NEW] bluez init script should try to load uinput kernel module

2010-05-23 Thread Jerone Young
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

bluez bluetooth stack uses the uinput kernel module for key presses from
bluetooth device. If the
module isn't loaded users loose out on some (cool) functionality with bluetooth
devices. This includes:
- Volume, Next/Previous track on bluetooth headphones
  http://www.slashphone.com/media/data/800/S305_Headset_3QtrR.jpg
- keypress from bluetooth presention remote
  http://www.targus.com/us/product_details.aspx?sku=AMP11US
- Bluetooth mice extra keys

http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.169419000on
bluetooth mice

- Any other bluetooth device that has key presses

Today I have uniput loading on my machine, but this is in no way
obvious to your average user. Basic use case is I have my bluetooth
headphones and when I press pause, stop, next, or previous buttons on the
headphones, the key press is sent to the OS so applications (ex.
Rythmbox, Banshee, & Totem) see them and react appropriately. Very cool
stuff. Same goes with my bluetooth presenation remote device (also very
nice).

Bluez sends these through uinput to the OS. By having uinput loaded it
would make the bluetooth experience under Ubuntu seemless.

[Bug 584810] [NEW] OpenOffice.org Impress/Presentation crashes when adding custom animations

2010-05-23 Thread freeze10108
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

When adding custom animations from the task pane, Impress is prone to
crash. Sometimes it won't crash after adding a custom animation, but
more often than not, it will. The document then has to be recovered and
the animation reapplied with bated breath. Constant saves are necessary
and time is wasted and workflow interrupted.

[Bug 579158] Re: nothing happens when i click on the ubuntu one icon from the menu or the me menu

2010-05-23 Thread Alexandre Patenaude
Just to tell that I also also am affected by this bug, and I noticed
something:

- I configured my account in "users-admin" (System -> Administration ->
Users and Groups) in such way that my user session can be started
without my password to be entered manually.

- When I log in with this setting, then I open Seahorse (Applications ->
Accessories -> Password and Encryption Keys), I get the same problem
Mitch Towner ran in: Seahorse "couldn't communicate with key ring
daemon". Ubuntu One doesn't work. I have to start "gnome-keyring-daemon"
manually, then Seahorse can communicate with my key ring daemon, and
Ubuntu One works again.

- Now, in "users-admin", I configure my user account to force my
password to be entered for my user session to be started. I log out. I
log in again, enter my account password in GDM, my session starts.

- In Seahorse, I don't have any error (Seahorse can communicate with my
key ring daemon), and Ubuntu One works properly.

So, maybe Mitch Towner is in the same situation? Could this problem
appear when a user can log in without a password?

If you need more information, logs, command outputs, etc., I'd be glad
to send them.

[Bug 555169] Re: [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X

2010-05-23 Thread kmself
Similar problems, resolved with an upgrade to kernel 2.6.32-21-generic.

Initial experience: upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04 resulted in frozen
keyboard/mouse on starting X11. Only exit was a hard boot (no serial
console or remote system from which to ssh in).

System is a Lenovo T61 laptop.

Experimenting with rescue boot showed that system was responsive to
keyboard at BIOS, GRUB, and pre-X system session. Booting single-user
root mode it was possible to start X session, at which point recovery
from X was not possible. Tricks such as:

startx /usr/bin/xterm -geometry 1680x1050 -- vt12 & sleep 10; chvt 7

(where 1680x1050 is my laptop display geometry)

This would switch back to a non-X virtual console, from which keyboard
and mouse were responsive (generally killing X at this point was a Good
Thing).

I did manage to get mouse response under a 2.6.27-11-generic kernel by
modifying /etc/X11/xorg.conf to specify a mouse device:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Configured Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "CorePointer"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2"
Option "Emuate3Buttons" "false"
EndSection

... but wasn't successful in specifying a keyboard configuration (what
*IS* the default PS2 keyboard device?).

On a suggestion from irc://irc.freenode.net/#xorg, I upgraded to latest
available kernel. Keyboard/mouse functioned with a default xorg.conf.
