[Bug 525368] Re: problem when adding new panels to gnome desktop
I am brand new to anything but windows. I have installed this OS over and over again for a week now. So far I have learned to force the installer to recognize my other multiple hard drive OS's mess with grub2... install and remove things and countless other stuff. As I go along I keep having issues. I have one very similar to this if not the same. On boot I get multiple errors as above with all my taskbar applets, can no longer right click anything to copy text or past, tried removing apps, adding them, and even as I said earlier re-installing the OS. As soon as I do an update BOOM!!! Its back! One thing I noticed on all the forums... This issue has been around since 2008 in varying degrees. This is sad because I really liked the idea of gettin' past my Windrawals. Here I go again with yet ANOTHER re- install. This time NO updates until it is "resolved"... hopefully. I'm great at fixing windows problems, I think I'll be a master by the time it's the way I like it ;-) -- problem when adding new panels to gnome desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 584823] [NEW] should grab keyboard when in fullscreen mode
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Release: Lucid Package Version: 1.3.9-6 Expected outcome: When in full screen mode, pressing F8 key should display popup menu which would allow for getting out of full screen mode. Actual outcome: No popup appears when pressing F8, so its difficult to get out of full screen mode. The fix for this is to add something like "Vncviewer*grabKeyboard: true" to your Xresources. In the post install phase of the package something like the following steps should occur: 1. echo "Vncviewer*grabKeyboard: true" > /etc/X11/Xresources/xtightvncviewer 2. xrdb -merge /etc/X11/Xresources/xtightvncviewer The resource should probably be removed if the package is removed, but not removing it is not strictly necessary. [Bug 533409] Re: pidgin do not minimize to notification applet
Diego, "Preferences | Interface| Show system tray icon: always" helps to get an ordinary Pidgin as it always was - Pidgin icon in tray, not in "Indicator applet". But as it is set by default in Pidgin's settings and IMHO as it was desired by those who developed Lucid, all messaging apps (Empathy, Pidgin, Evolution, Gwibber and so on) should use special part of "Indicator Applet". And AFAIK Empathy, Evolution, Gwibber all work well with this Indicator applet. Neither does Pidgin. I, too, have exactly the same issue as Thomas Nordstrøm. To put it bluntly, Ubuntu One has never worked at a level even close to a professional product, and I now understand it probably never will. The essential problem I pointed out in https://bugs.launchpad.net /ubuntuone-client/+bug/482851 still remains: Ubuntu One's developers have made a concious choice to hide serious error conditions from their users. Incidentally, I'm cancelling my subscription to Ubuntu One and moving my files over to Dropbox, which still works without a hitch. -- Ubuntu One Preferences freezes when opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568826 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 584564] Re: Wrong uuid in menu.lst
I have to apologize: Please ignore this error report! After studying the different menu.lst more carefully I think that I found the reason for this behavior, and it is basically my own fault: I found the following (inappropriate) lines in the menu.lst on one of the partitions that produced the wrong uuid-numbers. ## default kernel options ## default kernel options for automagic boot options ## If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z ## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted. ## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro ## kopt_2_6_8=root=/dev/hdc1 ro ## kopt_2_6_8_2_686=root=/dev/hdc2 ro # kopt=root=UUID=6574fd38-cc2b-4137-89ad-6790234a7328 ro ## default grub root device ## e.g. groot=(hd0,0) # groot=6339b283-19ff-41fa-b65d-355724881e1e Apparently, I had at some point copied the file menu.lst from one partition to another, and this resulted in the wrong options. [Bug 582420] Re: Please package boost-mpi and boost-mpi-dev
For good or ill MPI is the defacto standard solution for handling parallel computations in C, C++ and Fortran. For good or ill Boost is the de facto standard library of extensions to C++. Doing any parallleism using C++ will therefore involve Boost.MPI -- including after the C++0x standard comes out and everyone can use futures and asynchronous function call. Ubuntu has ejected the libboost-mpi-dev package and all related Boost.MPI packages. There is therfore now no way of installing Boost.MPI on Ubuntu via packages. Scott Kitterman wrote in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boost- defaults/+bug/531973, point 15 that there is an objective rationale to this. Debian however are not following this rationale, they retain the Boost.MPI packages, so either have found a way of solving the issue Scott outlines or have chosen not to be bound by that issue. Unless Ubuntu provides some way of installing Boost.MPI from packages then everyone who uses C++ and Boost.MPI will have to cease using Ubuntu and switch to Debian, or one of the RPM-based distributions. -- Please package boost-mpi and boost-mpi-dev https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582420 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 498182] Re: Indicator Applet does not support vertical panels
There's a question of whether people should be able to decide the orientation of a panel item on the panel vertical applets on horizontal panels, or horizontal applets on vertical panels but that's an argument to take upstream I think. The behavior of 99% of applets on a vertical panel is that they rotate to fit the smaller width. [Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
Wondering aloud If the application that owns the clipboard provides its contents (unavailable once it is closed)... What if we always make Xserver itself be this application (the owner of the contents), and thus always serve its contents (always available!) i.e., when the user copies (CTRL+C) or cuts (CTRL+V) instead of stopping at the point where the current application is "flagged as owner"... just go ahead and transfer contents + ownership to Xserver so, when the user pastes (CTRL+V) elsewhere, it will retrieve contents from Xserver... it doesn't matter if source application is opened or closed... Makes sense? Do we need a more complicated "design" for the solution? [Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste
I don't want to wait for Zealous Zebu (Ubuntu 17.04) to see this resolved. As a user, I want to use copy/paste being able to paste from a closed application. (Why leave it open, then go back only to close it?) As a developer, I work with PHP doing simple web applications. I don't know about complex details on X-server using C language. Anyway, I just want to contribute by sharing here some information about WHERE is the SOURCE CODE that deals with this issue and how to GET it. Others, like me, may want to "poke around" and, perhaps, ...help to develop a solution! The package name is xserver-xorg-core We can get the source code with the following command: apt-get source xserver-xorg-core I am using Lucid Lynx, and apt-get brought me Xserver 1.7.6 source code files. Alternatively, if "git" is installed, repository can be cloned with the following command: git clone git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server We can find several references to "clipboard" using "grep": cd xorg-server* grep -r "clipboard" * Most important files seems to be: hw/xwin/winclipboard.h hw/xwin/winclipboardinit.c hw/xwin/winclipboardthread.c hw/xwin/winclipboardwndproc.c hw/xwin/winclipboardxevents.c hw/xwin/winclipboardwrappers.c hw/xquartz/pbproxy/x-selection.m Comprehensive information on how to compile Xserver can be found here: http://www.x.org/wiki/CompileXserverManually I am not sure, but it seems that the latest developer who made changes in the Xserver clipboard management code is Harold L. Hunt. So, if someone wants to resolve this, I recommend asking directions to him - http://huntharo.com - huntharo (at) gmail.com Another developer that seems to have dealed with Xserver clipboard issues is Colin Harrison - http://sourceforge.net/users/colinharrison Hope this helps... Just to tell that I also also am affected by this bug, and I noticed something: - I configured my account in "users-admin" (System -> Administration -> Users and Groups) in such way that my user session can be started without my password to be entered manually. - When I log in with this setting, then I open Seahorse (Applications -> Accessories -> Password and Encryption Keys), I get the same problem Mitch Towner ran in: Seahorse "couldn't communicate with key ring daemon". Ubuntu One doesn't work. I have to start "gnome-keyring-daemon" manually, then Seahorse can communicate with my key ring daemon, and Ubuntu One works again. - Now, in "users-admin", I configure my user account to force my password to be entered for my user session to be started. I log out. I log in again, enter my account password in GDM, my session starts. - In Seahorse, I don't have any error (Seahorse can communicate with my key ring daemon), and Ubuntu One works properly. So, maybe Mitch Towner is in the same situation? Could this problem appear when a user can log in without a password? [Bug 313353] Re: Tree view freezes after expanding and collapsing
I'm not able to reproduce this any more using Ubuntu Maverick. The tree still doesn't expand automatically in step 5, but selecting other directories in step 7 now works fine for me. -- Tree view freezes after expanding and collapsing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 555169] Re: [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X
Similar problems, resolved with an upgrade to kernel 2.6.32-21-generic. Initial experience: upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04 resulted in frozen keyboard/mouse on starting X11. Only exit was a hard boot (no serial console or remote system from which to ssh in). System is a Lenovo T61 laptop. Experimenting with rescue boot showed that system was responsive to keyboard at BIOS, GRUB, and pre-X system session. Booting single-user root mode it was possible to start X session, at which point recovery from X was not possible. Tricks such as: startx /usr/bin/xterm -geometry 1680x1050 -- vt12 & sleep 10; chvt 7 (where 1680x1050 is my laptop display geometry) This would switch back to a non-X virtual console, from which keyboard and mouse were responsive (generally killing X at this point was a Good Thing). I did manage to get mouse response under a 2.6.27-11-generic kernel by modifying /etc/X11/xorg.conf to specify a mouse device: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "ImPS/2" Option "Emuate3Buttons" "false" EndSection ... but wasn't successful in specifying a keyboard configuration (what *IS* the default PS2 keyboard device?). On a suggestion from irc://irc.freenode.net/#xorg, I upgraded to latest available kernel. Keyboard/mouse functioned with a default xorg.conf. -- [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/555169 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 584733] Re: Horizontal tearing in GNOME
Alright, if it happens with effects set to None that means it happens without compiz running. [Bug 580837] Re: cups-pdf: error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'. in Ubuntu 10.04
A solution to this problem could be disable these two buttons ('Print Self-Test Page' and the button 'Clean Print Heads') to the PDF printer: it has no sense keep them enabled in a "PDF printer". -- cups-pdf: error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-document-format-not-supported'. in Ubuntu 10.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580837 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
