Followed the instructions at the above link. Thanks Pedro.

Not getting anywhere, so I'm going to remove the elementary ppas and see
if I can reinstall the original lucid package, which also segfaulted
last time with a bug that has been reported. Sorry about this, doesn't
seem to have dbg-sym available.

Hi.

For me the notification only appears when I reach full brightness and eg. press

appearing.
This is very annoying when you try to watch a video.

Might I suggest that ghostscript report an error to the effect "input is

So that the various filters which MIGHT generate this bad input can be

Rather than ghostscript appearing to be the cause of the problem. I've just
hit this on an up-to-date

dmesg:

Kernel command line: root=UUID=920f8bae-d5d9-4709-8bf2-40e7f4d67eb8 ro
nomodeset quiet splash

Without nomodeset the system boots up with video out of range for the
monitor.

The following complex symptoms all apply to using the nomodeset option:

With nomodeset option, and from a very cold start (PC off for at least
30mins), the system usually boots with a correct looking display.
However, it takes many seconds to switch into a graphical mode with kdm
showing.

Usually, I can logout and back in as a different user successfully, but
KDM takes many seconds to reappear.

If the screen power saving kicks in while logged in, usually moving the
mouse will get the screen back but with many seconds of mouse jiggling.
Sometimes the video goes out of range and I'm forced to "blip" the power
switch to request a shutdown.

If I try to switch user (New X display), the monitor gets driven out of
range (Monitor, Samsung SyncMaster 913N, suggests 1280x1...@60hz). I
can't get out of this. Trying to swictch back to the first user login
(Ctrl-Alt-F7) causes the monitor to "think" about it for a second or to
and then go out of range again. I'm forced to shut down by "blipping"
the power button to request a shut down.

Trying to reboot the working system causes the video to go out of range
after the desktop shuts down, but before the shutdown phase is
completed. The restarting stage, goes straight back into video out of
range. I am forced to "blip" the power buttton to request a shut down.

Trying to power up the system that went out of range on shutdown, will
immediately go video out of range after grub starts the kernel boot,
unless I wait for many minutes first. This is difficult to quantify, but
somewhere between 3 and 30 minutes. Pulling the power cable out for a
short while seems to reduce this time, maybe 3 to 10 minutes??

Using my PC currently feels like playing Russian roulette. It used to
work fine before I upgraded from 9.10 (with latest fixes and updates) to
10.04 (with all updates as they are published).

[Bug 590360] [NEW] Sync libpuzzle 0.9-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-06-06 Thread Felix Geyer
Public bug reported:

Please sync libpuzzle 0.9-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
There is no Ubuntu delta, just:
> * Rebuild for PHP 5.3.

Changelog entries since current maverick version 0.9-3ubuntu1:

libpuzzle (0.9-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix missing dependency on phpapi-* for libpuzzle-php, thanks to
Raphael Geissert (Closes: #566289):
 - Add ${php:Depends} to its Depends.
 - Use $(php-config5 --phpapi) to define this variable in the
   associated substvars file.

2010-06-06 Thread andrea-abelli
If you move a file it shouldn't be marked with an 'x' it should simply
disappear from the list. If it's by design, consider re-evaluating the
design because it makes really no sense.

2010-06-06 Thread Jon Nordby
Sorry for slow response.

Please provide step-by-step directions on how to make MyPaint freeze.
Does MyPaint freeze when using the mouse to paint? I do not understand
what you want to say with the image, can you please try to explain it
again?

Using Google Translate is not a very good way to communicate. Consider
asking a friend, teacher or similar to help you instead.

2010-06-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error caused by a corrupted
archive. Please execute the following commands, as it will clear your
package cache, in a terminal ( Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal )
:

sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue. If so please set the bug's status to Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 312756] Re: support graphics card hot switch

2010-06-06 Thread Alex Finch

I am also effected by this. My employer has just bought me an Acer Aspire
5935G specifically so I can do development work on an OpenGL based application.
However I can not access the Nvidia graphics card. The machine has two graphics
cards:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce GT 130M]
(rev a1)

which in Windows one can switch between.

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and it just uses the Intel card, but it does
work, just rather slowly. When I install the proprietary nvidia driver
opengl stops working:

glxinfo

Segmentation fault

I tried installing it myself from the Nvidia download site, and via
Ubuntu Software Centre but the result was the same.

(NB Installing it by hand was tricky till I realised I had to stop the nouveau
module from grabbing the device before trying to do the install. (lspci -v, and
look what module is using the device)
)

In addition, the tty terminals (ctrl-alt-f1 etc.) stop working so it is
only possible to log in via X11. When I try to switch to them the
screen still displays the x11 screen. This makes it hard to fix the
problem.

There is no access in the bios to control the graphics.

I tried the solution suggested in another bug report of setting the bus id:
 BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
but that had no effect, I still get the intel card chosen as primary device
(from Xorg log:)
 Primary Device is: PCI 0...@00:02:0

For me this is more than just a "wish list" item, as it prevents me
using the machine for it's primary purpose.

I really hope there is some solution soon, I am not too bothered about
being able to hot switch , I just want some way to choose the right
graphics card. I am considering removing the module that drives the
intel card, so it has to use the nvidia card, but that seems a bit
drastic.

[Bug 549217] Re: security updates not installed daily as configured

2010-06-06 Thread Konstantin Tchernov
For me this problems happens on a fresh install on two different
machines (one Acer Aspire laptop, one AMD 64 3000+ desktop) with no
changes to any settings. My steps to reproduce it are: 1. Install
Ubuntu. 2. A week later (and after several restarts) open up update-
manager manually and see that it has missed half a dozen security bugs.

Others here are reporting the same problem with a slightly different
setup (sounds like the only change is to "Download all updates in the
background").

We batch in five minute intervals but comments mark the boundaries
between batches, so if you make a bunch of changes and add a comment
and then someone else makes a bunch of changes you'll get two separate
notifications. Attachments cause problems because they each get their
own comment, so we send out one notification per attachment. Otherwise
our batching is quite sane at the moment.

We *might* be able to move to five-minute digests when we've fixed all
the Launchpad-fakes-email-addresses bugs. The easy fix to some of
those bugs is to start to use <$bu...@bugs.launchpad.net> as the From
address for notifications and if we do that we may be able to change
notification emails to look like this:

 From: Bug $FOO <$...@bugs.launchpad.net>
 ...
** Graham Binns (gmb) made the following changes
   * In Ubuntu:
 * status Incomplete -> Confirmed
   * Comment added:
This new digest thing is the bomb isn't it?

** Deryck Hodge (deryck) made the following changes:
   * In Malone
 * status Incomplete -> Fix Released
   * Comment added:
 Yeah, it's not bad.

But I'm not yet convinced that there would be a massive reduction in
bug mail traffic if we did that, or at least not a reduction directly
related to the batching of attachment notifications.

Currently to overcome this I compiled older gnome-terminal 2.23.91 to

Re: [Bug 589932] [NEW] Help files not found

2010-06-06 Thread Paul Gevers
If I am correct this bug is fixed upstream in version 0.9.28.2-9 [0]. If
you want to have this fixed, either the process of a stable release
update [1] should be started, but I don't think this bug justifies that.
If you don't mind using PPA's (Personal Package Archives) you can add my
PPA to get the latest Debian version of lazarus.

[Bug 585160] Re: Banshee crashes with RGBA enabled

2010-06-06 Thread Bowmore
In an upstream bug for Banshee
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620461
there's a workaround to avoid the crash at startup by (re)moving the banshee
notification indicator

sudo mv /usr/lib/banshee-1/Extensions/Banshee.Notification* ~/

This workaround makes it possible to play audio (music) but Banshee still
crashes for videos.
Same reason: Banshee.exe crashed with signal 5 in _XError()

[Bug 332956] Re: Rescanning Music Library doesn't work

2010-06-06 Thread Chow Loong Jin
Entries with "X" next to them mean that there was an error when
attempting to play them. This includes missing files, for example, but
is not limited to that, as the file may have been corrupted, or there is
no suitable codec available for playing it. Hence, I believe this
behaviour is by design and correct, so I'm marking this bug invalid.

Okay, in that case, can you try "sudo aptitude install
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good" in a terminal and see what it says? Please post the
full output here.

[Bug 590342] [NEW] logrotate rotates logs before analysers can parse them

2010-06-06 Thread reini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: logrotate

Since logrotate is called from anacron via the cron.daily directory,
anything that is also located in that directory and has a name after
"logrotate", won't be able to access the logs rotated by logrotate.

I want to generate reports about my local squid3 installation and the
analysers I use are "srg" and "sarg". Since they are executed after
logrotate, the squid3 log will be empty when they run, making the whole
effort an exercise in futility and annoying me with emails such as this:

/etc/cron.daily/sarg:
SARG: unexpected end of file encountered in /var/log/squid3/access.log
SARG: Keine Datensaetze gefunden
/etc/cron.daily/srg:
No logfile lines found to process!
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/srg exited with return code 1

To remedy this, /etc/cron.daily/logrotate should be run after all other
files run by anacron.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-06-06 Thread gromiko
Installing gnomebaker gives me the following error:

Untrusted packages could compromise your system's security.
You should only proceed with the installation if you are certain that
this is what you want to do.

  libswscale0 libtwolame0 libavutil49 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gnomebaker
  libavcodec52 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg icedax liba52-0.7.4 libpostproc51
  libgsm1 libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libschroedinger-1.0-0 libavformat52
  libsidplay1 libmad0 libid3tag0 libopencore-amrnb0 libopencore-amrwb0
  libmpeg2-4

So that means for me that substituting a bug for system security is a no
go situation.

I also agree that this is a part of basic system so its like the old
joke of M$ not working and now the Win users are laughing at us. The
joke is on us this time.

I think that gnome has a better footing (at least with me) so getting a
k3b working equivalent would be awesome.
