[Bug 539460] Re: Hardy images fail to build with 0.12.2-0ubuntu3

2010-07-03 Thread Adam Collard
@Gunnar: if you're still getting that traceback you may want to check
out your loop devices using "losetup -a", deleting any unused ones with
"losetup -d" then try again

Is this SRU still in progress? I really need this fix and avoided
patching locally because I saw the SRU had started. Is there anything I
can do to speed this up?

[Bug 601528] [NEW] Brasero's "Disc Copy" feature does not work.

2010-07-03 Thread Ashkan_Akhavein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

With Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and Brasero Disc Burner version 2.30.2 :

When you choose either the "Disc Copy : create 1:1 copy of a CD/DVD"
from the "Create New Project" main menu of Brasero, or the "Copy
Disc..." option from the right-click menu of the mounted disc icon on
desktop, the "Copy CD/DVD" window of Brasero opens, and when you choose
the "New disc in the burner holding the source disc" option of the
"Select a disc to write to" drop-down menu of this window and you hit
the "Copy" button, Brasero tries to write data on the source disc
(screenshot 1 attached), and then comes up with the error: "Error while
burning. An internal error occurred" (screenshot 2 attached).

The Brasero session log file is also attached.

Thank you.

[Bug 601497] Re: Connecting to Jigzone.com causes Firefox to close.

2010-07-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport
crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash
is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to
New and we will try something else.

[Bug 601527] [NEW] Crashes when importing m4a

2010-07-03 Thread Psycona
Public bug reported:

[Bug 601495] Re: http://www.ooma.com/media/media-assets crashes Firefox for unknown reason.

2010-07-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Could you please generate an apport
crash report for this?
You can enable apport for one instance like this:
sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start

I am marking this invalid as apport will open a new bug when the crash
is generated. If it does not, you can reset the status of this one to
New and we will try something else.

[Bug 477891] Re: keepassx don't copy the password into buffer by pressing Ctrl+C

2010-07-03 Thread Tom Metro
I observed this problem (same as comment #3), but after a reboot it went
away and stayed away for a while (weeks). I figured the explanation of
comment #4 was probably why.

I just noticed it has occurred. I re-enabled the PPA that had been
disabled on my 9.04 to 9.10 upgrade, and upgraded to 0.4.3, but the
problem is still there. It might get resolved by a reboot again, but if
this is reoccurring, there's clearly something broken.

Reinhard Tartler wrote:
> seems like an upstream issue to me

I don't see any reports upstream. Seems more likely that there is a
specific interaction with Ubuntu. If an OS reboot temporarily fixes the
problem, but an application restart does not, chances are there is
something in the Ubuntu/GNOME environment that is ceasing to work after
a period of time.

I see an old Debian bug that appears to describe the same symptoms and offers a
patch:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=414171

I'm guessing this occurrence has a slightly different cause, otherwise
it wouldn't work some of the time.

I don't see any upstream bugs so I created one:

[Bug 601285] Re: flash plugin crashed

2010-07-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can
become corrupt. Could you please try this with a new profile and see if
the problem still exists? You do not need to delete your old profile to
test. If this helps, you might want to try to disable all your
extensions and re-enable them one by one until you find the problematic
one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox -ProfileManager

[Bug 601323] Re: Firefox | Intermittent Connection

2010-07-03 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 601524] [NEW] Yakuake fails to start (several different errors)

2010-07-03 Thread Dr Ew
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yakuake

1) Using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid (Gnome)

2) Using yakuake version 2.9.6-1ubuntu1

3) Yakuake normally shows a little window informing you it has started,
then pops in/out whenever you push the assigned hotkey

4) No window pops up informing me it has started, and pushing the hotkey
causes current window to lose focus, but nothing happens. Pushing
hotkey again causes window to regain focus, as if the window is being
retracted but is just invisible. The following error output is seen
when running from command line:

So, eg on /dev/mapper/pdc_cdfjcjhfhe4 , I copied another ubuntu system

and edited grub.cfg manually. and change uuid and some another check...
thus I could boot Primary4 on 1st array.

[Bug 601520] [NEW] MaxSessions defaults to no limit

2010-07-03 Thread Paul Betts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: iscsitarget

The default value for MaxSessions is zero, meaning an unlimited number
of concurrent connections to the same disk - the only time this is
reasonable is with read-only media or via very specialized clustered
filesystem scenarios.

It's extremely easy with the default setting to corrupt a disk if two
computers connect at the same time, and most people using iSCSI are
using it with read-write volumes. A far safer default would be to
default MaxSessions to 1, and make the uncommon scenario be a non-
default.

I really want to emphasize, the defaults CORRUPT DATA unless you are
extremely careful - many initiators (both Windows and Mac's globalSAN
initiator) will try to set up a "persistent" connection where it will
log into the disk whenever possible; leave one of these machines on by
accident then connecting to the disk on another machine means the
filesystem is trashed. This *really* sucks.

[Bug 601450] Re: Touchpad on Ideapad G460 is incorrectly recognized as a "ImPS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse"

2010-07-03 Thread Mitch Towner
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in linux.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 472770] Re: No Audio in Tv Time using Ubuntu Karmic: not using pulseaudio

2010-07-03 Thread Dale Miracle
I am having the same no audio from TvTime as well.

I have a Hauppauge WinTv HVR-1800 and a realtek high definition audio
(on board sound). I was running the live cd version of 10.04 64bit.
The audio was working when it booted up and I heard event sounds so I
know the audio driver is working. I tried every suggestion and still
had no sound coming from TvTime.

However I did notice 3 things. They may be nothing though. I put the
alsa mixer terminal session on my 2nd monitor and put TvTime on my other
monitor. I noticed that when I change the volume in TvTime the level
for the line in moved as well. That tells me it is not muted and
apparently it is adjusting the volume correctly there is just no sound.

The second thing I noticed was when I had my logitech quickcam pro 5000
connected TvTime would load and immediately crash. When I unplugged the
quickcam TvTime loaded fine. I do know that the quickcam is loaded as a
audio device and not just video. I wonder if that has something to do
it, at least for me.

The third thing I noticed is when I grep for bttv the only lines I got
where that the driver was loaded but it did not list any audio. I mean,
there was no mention of it not finding audio.

[Bug 389766] Re: Gtk-Message **: Failed to load module "pk-gtk-module": libpk-gtk-module.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory at

2010-07-03 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
This is a very bad advice. You could just disable the loading of the
gnome-settings-daemon plugin by setting /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/gtk-
modules/pk-gtk-module to False in the gconf-editor.

The original message is only a warning message and not an error.

Furthermore the gtk-module only enables installing fonts on requests,
but this is not supported by Debian/Ubuntu.

[Bug 579117] Re: Wireless blocks USB-Audio, leading to dropouts

2010-07-03 Thread David Henningsson
I'm still watching, but I lack both time and ideas. Kubuntu 10.04 does not run
pulseaudio so that could be the reason for differences in behavior. (Kubuntu
10.10 will run Pulseaudio, btw.)
That there are no "noise floor calibration timeout"s under kubuntu seems
interesting though. I'm not sure what it is that Kubuntu does not do in that
case.
This is a case when there is hard to know the real root cause and what messages
are just other victims of the latency, it could be that the calibration
timeouts are not the real causes.

As for trying different kernels, I think it would be interesting to try
linux-preempt (available in Lucid, use Synaptic to get it) and see if it
makes a difference.

[Bug 306982] Re: Expose better UI for file-based restore

2010-07-03 Thread david6
This needs to be done in stages:

(1.) Add dialog button, for Restore Files/Folder. CRITICAL

This should already be present. I petulantly disabled Déjà Dup, and
installed Simple Backup, before I found this Bug.

(As per Comment #1) "This is not yet a feature. You can however
restore files (or folders) using the command line ('deja-dup --restore
[FILES...]'), or by right-clicking in Nautilus (? requires extension).
This feature will be added in a future release. SEE Bug #306982 ."

(2.) Add simple dialog field for files/folders, and feed to command line.
IMPORTANT

(3.) Add complex dialog box(es), for files/folders, version to replace
with, and exception handling. NICE TO HAVE

(4.) A Wizard tool, for all of the above. NICE TO HAVE, ONE DAY

[Bug 555957] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: make returns error: mixed implicit and normal rules

2010-07-03 Thread Dave Lentz
This may occur as a result of using pentium-builder wrapper around gcc:

[Bug 598936] Re: xulrunner-1.9.2 fails to install in Ubuntu 10.04 (post-installation scripts fail: "undefined symbol: sqlite3_initialize")

2010-07-03 Thread Michael Hackett
Solved! (At least for my system.) I had a build of sqlite3 in /usr/local
(to get a version that was not available in 8.04) and that was
apparently getting in the way. This showed up as a failure in the SVN
Apache module as well, and another posting led me to check my /usr/local
dir, which was the answer.

[Bug 585938] Re: [STAGING] r8192se_pci + powertop = kernel panic

2010-07-03 Thread ZachG
(For all the people who found this thread by googling)
### REALLY HACKY SOLUTION WHICH WILL (hopefully) ENABLE YOU TO USE r8192
WITHOUT CRASHING IN LINUX ###

The usual disclaimer about these kinds of hacks applies -- I am not
responsible yada yada, do this at your own risk yada yada, worked for
me, not guaranteed to work for you yada yada.

Open a terminal (On Ubuntu 10.04 aka Lucid Lynx: Applications Menu -> system
tools -> terminal)
1) sudo mv /sbin/iwpriv /sbin/iwpriv.old
2) sudo echo '#!/bin/bash' > /sbin/iwpriv
3) sudo chmod +x /sbin/iwpriv

NOTES:
1) I did this on my machine, and was still able to connect to and use wifi
normally.
2) Obviously this will likely break any application which depends on the iwpriv
command, and also makes iwpriv unsable for you on the command line (unless you
use iwpriv.old)
3) Powertop now runs fine without crashing with wifi enabled and running
4) Other applications may still do the same thing as iwpriv which can cause the
crash. This fix does *NOT* address the root cause of the problem. I'm still
going to look for a real fix for the underlying problem with the driver.

2010-07-03 Thread ledzepjes
@jean-Baptiste

Wait a minute, I remember...

u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

That is the command I issued after inspecting my command history,
"libGL.so.1.2" must have been the package I removed from being diverted
to fglrx.

I must tell you, I did an in place upgrade from 9.04, ran all the
updates, then to 9.10, all the updates, then upgraded to 10.04, all in a
couple of days, fyi.

Someone told me to remove fglrx, so I tried couple things which didn't work,
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg --purge fglrx --force-depends fglrx
and
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get remove --purge *fglrx*
and
u...@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg --ignore-depends=fglrx --purge fglrx

those didn't work
I then did
u...@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -l '*fglrx*'

which currently shows:
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)

accelerators

graphics accelerat

ii fglrx-modaliases2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 Identifiers supported by the ATI
graphics driver
un xorg-driver-fglrx (no description available)

And I don't remember exactly what it showed earlier, but I know the top
line was different, not "ii", but a captial "U" and a lower case "i"
possibly, I could be wrong, but I do remember it being a capitol letter,
don't remember what it was or which letter. I think it was telling me
that "fglrx" was installed, but not correctly, since I couldn't enable
compiz, it was like it was half way installed, and it wouldn't let me
uninstall fglrx.

Here's more fyi:
