[Bug 688446] [NEW] NFS needs firewall/NAT support
Public bug reported: For firewalls and NAT, NFS is a major hassle. It uses several random ports by default. If they are set static then every other client and server has to use the same ones else they won't connect. For a laptop users who need to connect to a private LAN with NFS and then to other public WiFi hotspots or LANs of suspect security, they either have to disable NFS (not easy) or block all ports with a firewall which then gets in the way of private LAN usage. There are two solutions. One is to set static ports by default and then create a firewall rule for them. The problem is that there are no standard ports except for portmap on 111 and nfsd on 2049. The commonly used unofficial ranges, 32765:32768 and 4000:4002, conflict with several other unofficial usages by other applications (like commercial games including Blizzard.net). I discovered this while working on a bunch of UFW application profiles (attached to bug# 659619). These ranges apparently come from: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/NFS-HOWTO/security.html http://www.lowth.com/LinWiz/nfs_help.html A safer range I found is 4194-4198 (statd, statd_bc, mountd, lockd, and quota, respectively). To make these useful they would need to be standardized across distros and registered according to RFC4340 to discourage third-party conflicts: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4340#section-19.9 The better but more difficult solution is to develop a nf_conntrack module for NFS which already exist for Samba and saned. This would allow random ports to be used. ** Affects: nfs-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688446 Title: NFS needs firewall/NAT support -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically
Hello, Unfortunately I have to take back my comment #149. After my upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 this bug did not occur at all for maybe 2 weeks. Everything worked perfectly! But then it re-occured out of nothing. This is really strange, since if haven't changed anything on my system. I even haven't done any update since the upgrade. I am using Awesome and have to live now with the following "work-around": After the mouse gets inresponsible I press ModKey-Ctrl-R to restart Awesome which gives me back control over the mouse. But usually only for one mouse click. So for the next mouse action i have to restart Awesome again. And so on ... this is getting really annoying For the record: I am using Ubuntu 10.10 on a Laptop with external Monitor. The two monitors (Laptop and external) are managed by Xinerama. [Bug 670181] Re: Dell Precision M6300 SD Card Reader (Ricoh R5C592 memory stick) Will Not Mount After Upgrade To 10.10
1. This is a widespread controller 2. I can remember that these problems appeared maybe a year back and more, but got reliably fixed 3. As such it seems like a regression. 4. Can somebody dig throught the commit logs? Unfortunaltey the problem seems more complex but a failing driver as reverting to an older kernel doesn't work 5. Which suggests that is is a user-space problem or a combination of both. 6. [Bug 688437] [NEW] NFS load locks processes and mounts
Public bug reported: I have multiple Onstor NFS NASs with multiple Ubuntu clients. The clients are all LTS releases (Dapper, Hardy and now Lucid). The clients are running autofs to mount the exports from the NAS. On my new Lucid machine, high NFS traffic generated by the client makes the mounts lock up. - Processes doing NFS file operations lock up (State D). Can't SIGTERM, SIGHUP, SIGKILL the affected process. - The affected mount can't be umounted unless I use umount -fl /mountpoint - Once the mount is killed I can SIGKILL the processes. - The process performing IO on the affected mount never dies or exits to shell. (zombies) - Other processes performing IO on other mounts exit normally once the affected mount is unmounted - Other clients are unaffected by this condition - Once a mount is affected by this condition it is no longer mountable by either autofs or manual mount - Other mounts on that same NAS are no longer mountable as well. - I can ping and showmount -e and the affected NAS - Have to echo b > /proc/sysrq-trigger in order to reboot. This happens on every Lucid server kernel I've tried (even the current mainline kernel). To reproduce: 1. Setup automounter on 4 different shares on 4 different servers. 2. cd in to those 4 shares and run iozone -a 3. wait for the processes to stop. /proc/mounts: vsvr-4.nfs:/slow08 /mnt/slow/vol08 nfs rw,nosuid,noatime,vers=3,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,namlen=255,hard,posix,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.10.233,mountvers=3,mountproto=tcp,addr=192.168.10.233 0 0 /etc/auto.slow: vol08 -rw,nosuid,posix,proto=tcp,vers=3,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,hard,intr,noatime,timeo=600 vsvr-4.nfs:/slow08 /etc/auto.master: /mnt/slow /etc/auto.slow -nosuid showmount -e vsvr-5.nfs Export list for vsvr-5.nfs: /slow11 * /slow15 * rpcinfo -p vsvr-5.nfs program vers proto port 102 udp111 portmapper 102 tcp111 portmapper 132 udp 2049 nfs 132 tcp 2049 nfs 133 udp 2049 nfs 133 tcp 2049 nfs 151 udp 2087 mountd 151 tcp 2087 mountd 152 udp 2087 mountd 152 tcp 2087 mountd 153 udp 2087 mountd 153 tcp 2087 mountd 1000211 udp 2090 nlockmgr 1000211 tcp 2090 nlockmgr 1000213 udp 2090 nlockmgr 1000213 tcp 2090 nlockmgr 1000214 udp 2090 nlockmgr 1000214 tcp 2090 nlockmgr 1000241 udp 2092 status 1000241 tcp 2092 status 1003331 udp 2049 1003331 tcp 2049 1003332 udp 2049 1003332 tcp 2049 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: linux-image-2.6.32-26-virtual 2.6.32-26.48 [modified: lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.seriomap lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.pcimap lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.alias lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.dep lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.alias.bin lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.symbols lib/modules/2.6.32-26-server/modules.isapnpmap] Regression: No Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-26.48-server 2.6.32.24+drm33.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-26-server x86_64 AlsaDevices: Error: command ['ls', '-l', '/dev/snd/'] failed with exit code 2: ls: cannot access /dev/snd/: No such file or directory AplayDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Architecture: amd64 ArecordDevices: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory Date: Fri Dec 10 00:14:16 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release amd64 (20100427) Lsusb: Error: command ['lsusb'] failed with exit code 1: MachineType: VMware, Inc. [Bug 297707] Re: DHCP feature for network-manager-openvpn with TAP required
I would also like Network Manager to treat tap like any other Ethernet interface. When it gets a "link" (i.e. OpenVPN starts up), Network Manager should take the appropriate action, whether to configure it manually, launch dhclient, or whatever. Yes, you could push options from the OpenVPN server, but I have the server-side tap bridged to my internal LAN and I want the remote machine to look EXACTLY like another machine on my net. Which means to get its IP configuration via DHCP, just like all the other machines. I don't want to maintain (essentially) 2 DHCP servers: a "normal" one and OpenVPN via push. Steve PS. I'm new to Ubuntu. In Fedora, "/sbin/ifup tap0" would use a configuration file (ifcfg-tap0) and treat tap0 just like eth0.
