Problem not only in gedit. It's in all maximized windows. On video you can see same bug with nautilus windows. I am currently discussing this upstream. My impression is that this may be an intended change to get a sane way of naming the xvd devices when the configuration may mix hd and sd naming. So there is a 4 device offset done in the enumeration of xvd devices for disks named sd? in the configuration. That means hda-hdd become xvda-xvdd and sda, sdb, ... become xvde, xvdf, ... Before that hda could become xvda and sda as well. A kernel update came through the Ubuntu Update Manager today which has fixed the problem. I am now running, according to 'uname -a' $ uname -a Linux NeurosLINK 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 28 15:07:17 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The System Monitor reports the kernel as 2.6.38-10-generic. It reported my previous kernel as 2.6.38-8-generic which I reported as 2.6.38.8 in comment #22. That kernel definitely did not fix the problem. The changes in the 2.6.38-10 kernel include fixes to (something like) the wireless compatibility module. I am happy to report that I can now ping my router without packet loss and one test with speedtest.net gave a result of 45Mbps, the closest I have ever got to my ISP's advertised 50Mbps, though the average speed is around 32 Mbps. 2.6.38-10.46 came through the Update Manager today and I can confirm it fixes the problem. On one speedtest.net run I got 45Mbps download speed though the average is around 32Mbps. Plus I can ping my router without losing packets. So I offer big thank you to the people who fixed these bugs. But to whoever labeled these changes urgency=low I say, please make a better judgement next time. These bug(s) all but crippled my HTPC. [Bug 757011] Re: Keep in launcher option for Emacs does not save over restarts
I had a similar problem. I launched Emacs from gnome-terminal using emacs, and then selected Keep in Launcher. If I closed Emacs, clicking the launcher icon wouldn't open a new instance; it would just flash for a few seconds and then stop. Then, the icon would disappear upon restarting my computer. Opening Emacs from the Applications place and then keeping it in the launcher worked. Furthermore, launching Emacs from a terminal as emacs23 and then keeping it in the launcher also worked. Ian: You should still be able to select the other kernel by holding Shift just after the BIOS screen disappears until you get the boot menu, then select Previous Linux versions, and then select the patched kernel.
