[Bug 877905] Re: [lucid] glx regression after upgrading xorg-server packages to versions in USN-1232-1

2011-10-21 Thread Nick Payne
The bug is still there on my system with the latest 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.10
xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core installed. Ubuntu 10.04 amd64,
kernel 2.6.38-12, nVidia 285.05.09 video driver. Trying to enable
desktop effects just gets an error dialog Desktop effects could not be
enabled. Was working fine until the first of these recent updates two
or three days ago.

[Bug 876162] Re: smplayer high cpu usage

2011-10-21 Thread Roman
However, smplayer still reacts to your input, i.e. does its GUI freeze
in your case? Possibly, this issue could be related to my bug #878000,
but in my case smplayer hangs completely (with 100% CPU load).

[Bug 872257] Re: Unity doesn't show the Citrix application

2011-10-21 Thread François Tissandier
To logout and login didn't fix it.
I have reinstalled my Oneiric installation, keeping the same /home
But still the same, after installing Citrix by using the .deb, it didn't show
up. Plus I had to manually give +x rights to the .desktop file, and manually
install a file from the 32 bits libmotif library... Still a very poor installer
 application from Citrix...

[Bug 877905] Re: [lucid] glx regression after upgrading xorg-server packages to versions in USN-1232-1

2011-10-21 Thread Norbert
Good morning!

While the original bug has been solved for me, I have discovered a side
effect of this patch: The bootsplash won't go back into graphical when
shutting down Ubuntu. I wasn't aware this until this morning after I had
reboot. Now I will try reinstalling it, but I guess it's still somehow
related to this problem.

Anyone else experiencing?

[Bug 879254] [NEW] MouseRelease/PenRelease event not generated with tablet

2011-10-21 Thread Alexei
Public bug reported:

Using a stylus with an HP tm2 tablet and kde. The
MouseRelease/PenRelease event is missing when the pen is removed from
the screen. Stylus movement is registered, stylus presses are
registered, but not the release. A significant portion of the UI only
responds upon release so this missing event makes it impossible to use
the pen. e.g. pressing a button will change it's state registering the
press, but it will never trigger an action (which happens on the
release).

Problem is present across all applications and desktop.

This problem is not present with FVWM so it's a KDE issue.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 601299 ***

I can confirm that the nosync workaround worked for me.
I tried to upgrade Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 on a netbook using a SD card with
btrfs.
The time estimate before I killed was 1 day and 22 hours.
I couldn't even run dpkg --reconfigure -a

After the fix the dpkg --reconfigure -a took about 3 minutes and upgrade
(just the package installation) took about 1.5 hour

Thanks for your logs. Can you try to check if you have libcupsys2
installed, and if so uninstall it and try to see if the upgrade
proceeds? Just enter

sudo apt-get remove libcupsys2

and this will remove this package if you have it.

[Bug 879266] [NEW] gnome clock 'copy date' ignores custom format

2011-10-21 Thread Max Waterman
Public bug reported:

run gconf and change the clock app's format to a custom one. On my
system (ubuntu 11.04 using custom desktop) it is
/apps/panel/applets/applet_0/prefs. Enter 'custom' for 'format' and (eg)
'%Y/%b/%d (%a)' for 'custom_format'. Quit gconf.

You should see the custom format displayed in the clock as (eg)
'2011/Oct/21 (Fri)'.

Now, right click on the clock and select 'copy date'. Paste somewhere.

Observe that instead of '2011/Oct/21 (Fri)' you get 'Friday, 21 October
2011'.

Please consider implementing a change to make the 'copy date' option
copy what is displayed and not ... something else.

Clock 2.32.1 - difficult to tell what package this is in (would be nice
to have in the 'about'), but I'm guessing it is /usr/lob/gnome-panel
/clock-applet which is part of gnome-panel versino 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5.

[Bug 779166] Re: Upgrade to version 11.04, disable the laptop display back light

2011-10-21 Thread Scott Severance
@cgonzalez and anyone else:

Since the screen also goes dark when resuming from suspend or other
purposes, and rc.local doesn't get run at that time, I've also added the
relevant setpci command to root's crontab, to be executed every minute.
That way, the screen isn't black for more than a minute.

(I might add that the machine affected belongs to a non-technical friend
of mine who doesn't want anything complex.)

[Bug 24061] Re: GPG error with apt-get/aptitude/update-manager behind proxy (BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5)

2011-10-21 Thread Berend De Schouwer
This happens to me if update-mangager starts before I've had a change to
type the proxy password (pretty much every day in the office)

It would be nice if apt would wipe the BADSIGs on a restart, so that I
can get a fresh list after typing the proxy password without manually
removing files in /var/lib/apt/lists/. I'm going to have to cron it
otherwise. Why does it not overwrite BADSIGs with new ones?

Alternatively I'm going to have to get update-manager to wait a bit
until 10 minutes after login to start downloading.

[Bug 872824] Re: Network-manager locks up when adding strongSwan VPN connection

2011-10-21 Thread Martin Willi
The strongSwan plugin to NetworkManager is not compatible to NM 0.9. But
I've published a new release 1.3 at
http://download.strongswan.org/NetworkManager/ that updates the plugin
for NM 0.9. Debian upload is still pending.

Unfortunately, the new NetworkManager also breaks compatibility with
strongSwan itself, and we can't fix it from our end (see:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-
list/2011-September/msg00037.html).

[Bug 754000] Re: Running Unity disables Xorg's 3-finger click support (middle click)

2011-10-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

as soon as i put down three fingers, the love handles appear. on the
macbook pro a middle click is done with a 3 finger click. this is very
low priority, and i could even see a wontfix. there's a simple work
around to just not put all 3 fingers down at the same time and then
click after all 3 are down.

Please note this bug is about physically clicking a clickpad with 3
fingers. 3 finger tapping is different and has been intentionally
overridden in Unity 3D by new gestures.
+
+ This bug only happens in Unity 3D. It does not happen with Unity 2D or
+ Gnome Shell.

[Bug 860208] Re: Shrew Soft VPN no longer establishes a connection

2011-10-21 Thread Mark Chester
Downgrading to these packages has restored VPN connectivity for me.
ike_2.1.5+dfsg-2
ike-qtgui_2.1.5+dfsg-2

I used the Natty packages found here:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/natty/ike

Download the above packages. (make sure you select the right architecture)
Remove both 2.1.7 packages using the Ubuntu Software Center (you need to search
for ike and show the technical items to see both packages).
Right-click the downloaded ike 2.1.5 deb package
Choose Open With Ubuntu Software Center and click install.
Repeat for the Ike-qtgui 2.1.5 package.

[Bug 614238] Re: Intel Core i3 External Monitor Wavy Output

2011-10-21 Thread Maxime Chéramy
You know, you can build your own kernel package if you want. Just follow the
instructions you can find on many websites, using make-kpkg. I can't give you
mine, because I don't use Ubuntu anymore.
It's pretty easy, you should try, at least you'll learn how to compile Linux.
And then you can share your package with others.

[Bug 744615] Re: No sounds should disable even the login sound

2011-10-21 Thread T.J. Crowder
Hi,

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible
with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the stable
 release - Oneiric Ocelot

How? To replicate it, you have to make an enduring change to the system
and then reboot, and of course the live environment is running off read-
only media.

I had reason recently to do a fresh install 11.10 briefly and I'm about 90%
sure the same problem *did* occur, but there's that 10% uncertainty. Similarly
I believe 11.04 has the problem as well.

[Bug 852349] Re: sqlite2 support

2011-10-21 Thread Ondřej Surý
Are we reiterating the please don't remove php4, I have old
applications?

If you have an old application which needs a rewrite you should stay on
LTS. You can have a API stability or the newest version of PHP5. You
cannot have both.

While I was not involved in the original decision I quite agree with it
and I'll probably merge the drop in the next Debian PHP5 build.

[Bug 879291] [NEW] pressing down once in launcher/search does not highlight any result (you have to press down twice)

2011-10-21 Thread Joakim Ahnfelt-Rønne
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.10 (release 11.10), 64bit desktop

How to reproduce: press super (start), enter terminal, press down.

Expected: highlights the first result.

What happened: puts focus onto something hidden, which does not respond
to enter/left/right.

Workaround: pressing down twice.

Maybe this is a papercut; it's likely quick to fix, and something that
the average user (at least those who use the keyboard to launch things)
encounters multiple times every day.

[Bug 879287] [NEW] wifi otkeys doe snot work as expected on eeepc 1005 in Ubuntu 11.10

2011-10-21 Thread Zangiev
Public bug reported:

Hotkey fn+f2 i supposed to toggle wifi on/off. That's the way it was
working on ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04.

I have updated from 11.04 to 11.10. When wifi is toggled on at startup,
i can connect to wireless network. If i toggled it off and then on
again, network manager says device not ready. And i can't connect to
wireless network anymore. Same situation if i start the computer with
wifi disable.

To make it working again, i have to do sudo rmmod ath9k / sudo modprobe
ath9k while wifi is toggled on.

I have also formatted my computer and done a claen install of ubuntu
11.10 but i have still the same issue.

I don't know which package is affected...

[Bug 879284] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-10-21 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have
installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve
this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can
be done via the commands:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install casper

Then performing the software update or installation that you were
originally trying. If this does not resolve your bug please set its
status back to New. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 879267] Re: gnome-exe-thumbnailer doesn't work

2011-10-21 Thread Jan Nekvasil
gnome-exe-thumnailer.sh takes two arguments: INPUTFILE and OUTPUTFILE.
Without them just throws an error.

But the thumbnailing in Oneiric obviously does not work because GNOME 3
changed the way which are thumbnailers registered to the system; instead
of gconf it now uses .thumnailer (similar to .desktop) files in
usr/share/thumbnailers. Just put the attached file there, and it should
work.

** Attachment added: exe-dll-msi.thumbnailer

   Status: New = In Progress
