[Bug 955272] Re: resize2fs fail with very large disks from small source image

2012-03-15 Thread Neil Wilson
Online resize still fails:

ubuntu@srv-eej0z:~$ sudo resize2fs /dev/loop0
resize2fs 1.42 (29-Nov-2011)
Filesystem at /dev/loop0 is mounted on /mnt; on-line resizing required
old_desc_blocks = 1, new_desc_blocks = 80
Performing an on-line resize of /dev/loop0 to 335544320 (4k) blocks.
resize2fs: Operation not permitted While trying to add group #8192

But the extended filesystem remains consistent when it does. The failure
occurs at the maximum blocks that were shown when the original 1G
filesystem was created.

So perhaps all we need to do is catch the error and report that the
maximum filesystem size has been reached.

[Bug 955945] [NEW] Gnome-shell doesn't not loaded - freezes

2012-03-15 Thread Lassi Ruonavaara
Public bug reported:

I installed a larger update, which seemed like distribution upgrade. I
had ubuntu 12.04 beta already before the upgrade, maybe we got now more
stable one? Anyway I also had gnome shell installed, and working.

However, after the upgrade, which I think updated kernels too as burg
was replaced with grub and options were different, gnome shell stopped
working. When I choose Gnome as my window manager on login screen and
try to log in, I can login but it never loads anything. I can see the
background and move the mouse that's it. I am also unable to open
anything like terminal for instance.

Only thing I can do is click ctrl alt and f1, restart lightdm and then I
get back to login screen. I can log in with unity, but not with gnome.

This worked before update, but not anymore. Reboot has no effect on the
issue.

[Bug 954472] Re: nautilus won't open, then crash

2012-03-15 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 818059] Re: installation from live usb system crashes while installing language packs

2012-03-15 Thread Hans Peeters
Hi,
I'm putting this in all instances where I find something abojut the Installing
languages crash.

I had the same, time after time, until ..

- Start from CD/DVD/USB installing device
- DISCONNECT FROM YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION *** MOST IMPORTANT STEP
- Switching off all automatic updating during install do this after it's
properly installed (automatically)
- Not installing the Fluendo extra drivers do this after the install: sudo
apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
- Start install
- Restart computer
- do above-mentioned updates (momentarily some 380 Mb) and Fluendo install.

Doing it this way (disconnect from Internet BEFORE install) already made
it possible to install 2 times where before it crashed on the language
install.

Good luck and enjoy Oneiric,
Hans

[Bug 955955] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts get reset at every login

2012-03-15 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

I have two sets of keyboard shortcuts that I change from the defaults:
- ALT-T to open a terminal
- ALT-N to switch to workspace N

In unity 3d, when I logout and then login again, they no longer work. I go to
the keyboard shortcut preferences, and they are still there. To get them to
work again, I have to:
- disable the shortcut with the backspace key
- set it again to my desired value

Then it works as long as I don't logout again.

[Bug 811275] Re: package mail-stack-delivery 1:2.0.13-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installiertes post-removal-Skript gab den Fehlerwert 1 zurück

2012-03-15 Thread James Page
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I have spent some time trying to reproduce your issue - however the only
way I could replicate this in any way was to remove the postfix
configuration directory (/etc/postfix) prior to trying to purge postfix
and mail-stack-delivery.

Re-running 'sudo apt-get purge mail-stack-delivery' successfully
completed the purge operation in my test case as 'postconf' was no
longer installed so mail-stack-delivery won't try to backout its changes
to postfix.

Please could you check whether this was the case in your installation.

I'm going to mark this bug as 'Invalid' for the time being - if this was
not the case please change the Status to 'New'.

[Bug 953386] Re: Disabling Key to show HUD disables the Switcher

2012-03-15 Thread James
Using the alt key for the HUD also breaks things like alt+tab in a
VirtualBox VM:

Reproduce by:
* Create a VM with a guest that uses the alt+tab to switch windows (e.g.
Windows, Ubuntu etc.)
* Boot it
* Launch two programs
* Try and alt tab between

What happens:
Seemingly randomly, the HUD appears and takes focus away from the VM.

My issue is not with the HUD existing, my issue is with the fact I can't
remove the Alt key to show it without affecting alt+tab.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create new Writer document from LibO start Center
2. Open attached source.ods

5. switch to WRITER document
6. Menu 'Edit - Paste Special - as RTF
Expected: Merged Cell A2:B2 shown similar to CALC
Actual: Merged cell sown with correct congents, but at it's right an
additional empty cell has been created.
7. At cursor position behind new WRITER table: return
8. Menu 'Edit - Paste Special - as HTML

For me the problem starts with Server installation of Master LibO-dev

Works as expected with

[Bug 954368] Re: Upstart script puppet agent

2012-03-15 Thread James Page
Hi Glenn

Thanks for taking the time to prepare this update for the puppet
packaging.

Couple of comments:

1) By default the init script for the puppet agent does not start the
agent; this is set in /etc/default/puppet - the upstart configuration
needs to exhibit the same behaviour.

2) The puppet package also has two other init scripts; we should switch
the package over wholesale to upstart - no just one agent IMHO.

Although I would love to see the puppet packages using upstart I think
its a bit late in the precise development cycle to accept this change.

I suggest that we land an appropriate change once Ubuntu Q development
opens.

Unsubscribing ubuntu-sponsors for the time being.

[Bug 955576] Re: 'local:' services not started on reboot

2012-03-15 Thread Jamie Strandboge
William, thanks that is great news.

James, to call this a limitation is IMHO a major understatement. Since
all services, units, etc are removed after a destroy-environment, the
local environment is nothing more than for testing or demonstration
purposes. Of course, it states right in the page you mentioned that is
has 'the goal of experimenting with juju and developing formulas', but
seems more could be here to make it more useful, even for testing
purposes (eg, I am testing juju but had to reboot my host machine so all
that is lost).

[Bug 955983] [NEW] enable linux-backports-modules for ac100

2012-03-15 Thread Marc Dietrich
Public bug reported:

Wifi chips often receive significant updates in newer kernel which often
enhance stability and performance. The AC100 is still at version 3.0
with some rt2x00 patches backported from mainline. This does not include
updates to the net/* subsystem though. i386 and x86_64 archs provide a
linux-backports-modules package for distributions with older kernels for
this reason, which contains kernel modules from the compat-wireless
archive (http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel/compat-wireless-3-stable)
coresponding to the latest (Ubuntu) released kernel version.

A further improvement would be to suppy a e.g. a daily package
containing the lastest compat-wireless archive from
http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download ensuring that the latest bug
fixes and network stack are included.

[Bug 955546] Re: gnome-terminal crashes with forked command not found if path is too long

2012-03-15 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Gnome.pm: Do not show Cancel or Close buttons, to avoid breaking

  * Ubuntu's dpkg-query still uses ${PackageSpec} for multiarch support
rather than the newer ${binary:Package}. Support this as well for now.

2012-03-15 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Unity 5.6 got released on March 12th, and at least for me it fixed (and
was also supposed to fix) the annoying unwanted popping up. I also
cannot reproduce this anymore by eg. rapidly pressing alt+f / alt+b in

From time to time, Unity dissappear leaving only the background image.
Sometimes it 'comes back' with all open documents and bars, without
losing them. When it don't happen, I use Ctrl+Alt+F2 and I do a unity

[Bug 877749] Re: Crashed around the time it was installing language packs

2012-03-15 Thread Hans Peeters
Hi,
I'm putting this in all instances where I find something abojut the Installing
languages crash.

I had the same, time after time, until ..

- Start from CD/DVD/USB installing device
- DISCONNECT FROM YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION
- Switching off all automatic updating during install do this after it's
properly installed (automatically)
- Not installing the Fluendo extra drivers do this after the install: sudo
apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
- Start install
- Restart computer
- do abovementioned updates (momentarily some 380 Mb) and Fluendo install.

Good luck and enjoy Oneiric,
Hans

[Bug 950056] Re: Reboot hangs on Dell OptiPlex 780 (board 03NVJ6); reboot=bios works around

2012-03-15 Thread Ben Harris
I've tested each option five times, as before. Results below:

reboot=k: hangs sometimes (1/5)
reboot=t: hangs sometimes (2/5)
reboot=l: works always (5/5)
reboot=h: hangs sometimes (1/5)

Given the rarity of hangs with other settings, I'll carry on testing
reboot=l in case I just got lucky.
