[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-07-03 Thread Victor
I updated to the 3.4 kernel following the instructions in #91 and have
experienced no crash after 6h.

I guess the fix should be backported to the current kernel.

2012-07-03 Thread Shreepad S
Me too. Tried adding property remote-cert-tls, value server to the
appropriate network connection using gconf-editor but that threw an
error re unrecognised property...

I feel this is a basic property that must be included (among the many
many ones present), along with verb (which controls verbosity on the
output)

[Bug 1020481] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 network becomes unresponsive with Linksys WMP600N

2012-07-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags).
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag
located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-
upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1020377] Re: i can't shutdown or restart ubuntu 12.04

[Bug 952563] Re: blank display on thinkpad x201 after resume from suspend

2012-07-03 Thread deejoe
I have a slightly mor elaborate observation to offer. On our X61, I see
the behaviour that lyre describes in comment 10:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/952563/comments/10

I have two user accounts on the system. When resuming, I see the black
screen with cursor. I switch to virtual terminal 1 via Ctrl-Alt-F1. I
then issue

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

This restores the login window in X, showing a checkmark to indicate the
original user still as logged in. If I try to log in to the same,
already-in-session account again, I once again get the black screen with
X arrow cursor. Lather rinse repeat.

If, instead, I log in to the other, not yet logged-in user, I get a
fully operational X session.

So much for the observations. As for analysis and speculation, I do not
pretend to understand how X, compiz, unity, and so on all intertwine,
but the presence of the cursor leads me to believe that X's basic
functionality has resumed OK but that something specific to the user
session is interfering with resuming correctly.

I may try to reproduce this with different desktop environments (eg,
lubuntu) to see if that makes a difference and provides a workaround. I
need suspend/resume much more than I need Unity.

[Bug 593087] Re: missing remote-cert-tls server on client

2012-07-03 Thread Shreepad S
Mitigation, can use the tls-remote property, set on the UI via
Advanced - TLS Authentication - Subject match to the X509 name on
the server's local certificate used for TLS authentication.

e.g.
/C=NA/ST=None/L=None/O=Mullvad/CN=m3.mullvad.net/emailAddress=i...@mullvad.net

To get this value,
1. export the VPN config (after adding a dummy value in above field)
2. edit file generated to remove the user and group lines and add a line verb
3
3. run from command line
openvpn --config filename
4. From the output pick out the expected value (example above) where it shows
an error

Limitation: If your VPN service has mutiple servers (resolved via DNS)
this will only work for one of them at a time.

[Bug 958174] Re: Wireless Mouse not registered on Startup or Reboot

2012-07-03 Thread mrsfixit
I am using Xubuntu 12.04, 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu.

I have a Logitech M570 wireless trackball, and I am experiencing the
same problem.

I came across this on a forum somewhere, and it has been working pretty
consistently:

Add following lines to /etc/rc.local

modprobe -r hid_logitech_dj
modprobe hid_logitech_dj

I did this. I have tried booting to the desktop with the trackball
switch turned on, and turned off.

With the switch turned on, it works most of the time. I have actually
had better luck waiting until the desktop was fully loaded, and then
turning the trackball switch on.

YMMV, but I hope this helps somebody as this problem has been driving me
bonkers as well.

[Bug 1016094] Re: System freeze unless booted after Windows has run

2012-07-03 Thread Gilbert Standen
Update. This freeze of the desktop also seems to be related to wireless
networking. It often freezes the desktop if I try to make a wifi
connection. On the other hand, wireless broadband, either via the
builtin sim card, or via bluetooth tether to cellphone, rarely if ever
locks up the desktop so there seems to be a strong correlation of the
desktop freezing with trying to make a wifi connection.

[Bug 637845] Re: [maverick] CPU frequency does not scale up unless all cores are in use

2012-07-03 Thread Michael
I have been experiencing something with very similar symptoms to this on
a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop with Ubuntu 12.04. Looking in
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq showed that the CPU frequencies
were always stuck at just under half what they could do, no matter the
load. After finding this ticket I installed cpufrequtils, to get more
readable output, with the immediate result that the CPU frequencies
started behaving sensibly! I presume that init scripts which come with
that package, including the one to load relevant CPU frequency-related
kernel modules have something to do with it, but I am somewhat
surprised, given the impressive effect that installing the package had,
that it isn't installed by default. Does anyone else know something
here that I don't?

[Bug 1020640] [NEW] Suspend hangs the laptop

2012-07-03 Thread Paul Graham
Public bug reported:

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665 running xubuntu:

$ uname -a
Linux pgraham-laptop 3.0.0-22-generic-pae #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 12 17:31:49
UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

When I try to suspend using the suspend button from the logout dialog,
one of three things happens: 1) the laptop suspends normally, 2) the
screen blanks but the fan keeps running, or 3) the laptop suspends, but
then hangs when I bring it out of suspend.

I see that suspend has been a problem on linux for many years. Is this
a general bug or is it a different bug for each hardware/os combination?

Paul

2012-07-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
@eric

Thanks for reporting this bug. Just to confirm, the bug exists in the
upstream v3.4 kernel, but not in the upstream v3.5 kernel? If that is
the case, we can perform a reverse bisect to identify the fix for this
bug.

Can you test the following kernels, and report back the results:

v3.4 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-quantal/
v3.5-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5-rc1-quantal/

perform the testing on that package once it has built there.

** Description changed:

+ Please backport condor 7.8.1~dfsg.1-1 (universe) from quantal to
+ precise.
+
+ Reason for the backport:
+
  Hi

  I would like to get this software backported to Ubuntu 12.04 as it is an LTS
version.
  Usually systems employing gridcomputing (e.g. using condor) would need a
stable, longtime supported system.

  Best regards,
  Hermann
+
+ Testing:
+
+ Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the
checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.
+
+ You can test-build the backport in your PPA with backportpackage:
+ $ backportpackage -u ppa:lp username/ppa name -s quantal -d precise condor
+
+ * precise:
+ [ ] Package builds without modification
+ [ ] condor-doc installs cleanly and runs
+ [ ] libclassad3 installs cleanly and runs
+ [ ] condor-dev installs cleanly and runs
+ [ ] condor installs cleanly and runs
+ [ ] condor-dbg installs cleanly and runs

[Bug 1019083] Re: Quantal A2 failed to automatically connect Centrino Wireless N

This should be fixed in the beta PPA. You can try Firefox 14 in
ppa:mozillateam/firefox-next or wait 2 weeks for it to be pushed out to
the stable releases.

[Bug 1013597] Re: No default route for stateful DHCPv6

2012-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ifupdown - 0.7ubuntu1

---
ifupdown (0.7ubuntu1) quantal-proposed; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian experimental. Remaining changes:
(LP: #298488, LP: #663352)
- ifupdown.nw: Use 100 as default route metric unless an explicit metric
  parameter is set in /etc/network/interface.
- If the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf file is present
  but doesn't have the ifupdown:managed the previous upload instructed
  the iniparser to return -1, which evaluates to TRUE. We instead instruct
  it to return 0, as we shouldn't prevent ifupdown from managing the
  interfaces in that case, as NM won't either. (LP: #281984)
- debian/postinst: If the loopback interface is missing from the config
  in /etc/network/interfaces, add it on upgrade.
- Add jobs and hooks for upstart.
  * Cherry-pick commit 011d5904c09d from upstream, fixing cases where the
error messages wouldn't be triggered (caused test failure).
  * Cherry-pick commit 7c1a226cc995 from upstream, adds support for two
options on dhcpv6 (accept_ra and autoconf) (LP: #1013597)
  * Cherry-pick commit 5af7e814faee from upstream, fixing a failure in the
example script generate-interfaces.pl (LP: #286808)
  * Cherry-pick commit a1f8efc4d93f from upstream, add --no-scripts as a
parameter to ifup/ifdown, allowing the user to bypass the the scripts
in /etc/network/if-*.d/ (LP: #258782)

ifupdown (0.7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Accept duplicate options in /etc/network/interfaces, join them using
a newline as a delimiter.
  * If an interface isn't defined, but mentioned in auto or allow statement,
don't mention it in ifquery output.
  * Change shortcut for --exclude to -X (was -e previously).
  * Make ifquery return false if the interface isn't defined.
  * Fix typos in the changelog.
  * Calculate broadcast address internally.
  * Allow concurrent netmask specification in both address (using CIDR
notation) and netmask for IPv6 (Closes: #674775).
  * Add preferred-lifetime setting for IPv6.
  * Pass -w and -e options to sysctl so we still can configure an interface
even if IPv6 SLAAC options can't be set for some reason.
  * Port to GNU/Hurd (thanks to Svante Signell, closes: #296115).
  * Chdir to root when executing external programs (Closes: #361964).
  * Remove updetach from PPP method (Closes: #675016).
  * Configure hotplug interfaces only if they're running (thanks to Evgeni
Golov, closes: #673658).
  * Rewrite NEWS file (Closes: #673688).
  * Update examples (Closes: #340992).
  * Update tests.
  * Update README.

ifupdown (0.7~rc3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Don't refer to README from netbase any more.
  * Internal changes:
- Make set_variable() able to set variables conditionally.
- Improve conversions interface.
- Add some support for interface link configuration.
- Don't leak memory in some functions.
  * Configure VLANs automatically (Closes: #520436).
  * Calculate netmask internally, so even if a user haven't supplied
one or have used CIDR notation, hook scripts will have it properly
specified in IF_NETMASK environment variable.
  * Declare Breaks/Replaces relationship against netbase  5.0.
  * Merge changes from Ubuntu (thanks to Stéphane Graber):
- Mark package as Multi-Arch: foreign.
- Update statefile paths in the 'contrib' scripts and in the
  noweb source.
  * Temporarily unapply patch for #547587.
  * Update tests.

[Bug 996113] Re: firefox does not print in contrast to other applications

2012-07-03 Thread Till Kamppeter
Daniela, your error_log does not help much, as it does not contain any
traces of a print job. You need to print out of Firefox, check with
lpstat -o whether the job is in the queue and then wait some time, a
minute or so. Only then copy your error_log and attach it.

[Bug 258782] Re: it'd be nice to have a --no-scripts flag

  * Cherry-pick commit a1f8efc4d93f from upstream, add --no-scripts as a
parameter to ifup/ifdown, allowing the user to bypass the the scripts
in /etc/network/if-*.d/ (LP: #258782)

ifupdown (0.7) unstable; urgency=low

  * Accept duplicate options in /etc/network/interfaces, join them using
a newline as a delimiter.
  * If an interface isn't defined, but mentioned in auto or allow statement,
don't mention it in ifquery output.
  * Change shortcut for --exclude to -X (was -e previously).
  * Make ifquery return false if the interface isn't defined.
  * Fix typos in the changelog.
  * Calculate broadcast address internally.
  * Allow concurrent netmask specification in both address (using CIDR
notation) and netmask for IPv6 (Closes: #674775).
  * Add preferred-lifetime setting for IPv6.
  * Update examples (Closes: #340992).
  * Update tests.
  * Update README.

ifupdown (0.7~rc3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Upload to unstable.
  * Don't refer to README from netbase any more.
  * Internal changes:
  * Declare Breaks/Replaces relationship against netbase  5.0.
  * Merge changes from Ubuntu (thanks to Stéphane Graber):
- Mark package as Multi-Arch: foreign.
- Update statefile paths in the 'contrib' scripts and in the
  noweb source.
  * Temporarily unapply patch for #547587.

[Bug 1007570] Re: [Dell Vostro 3350]: Bluetooth does not function correctly.

2012-07-03 Thread Jeff Marcom
I checked the hardware and found this:

http://www.alibaba.com/product-
gs/484992303/Intel_Centrino_Wireless_N_WiMAX_6150.html

Which does not say or support bluetooth. This bug is likely related to:
#875842 that was opened on the same hardware.

The issue seems to be that there is no hardware yet the bluez applet
seems to think otherwise.

I *believe* bug#
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/875842 is not
related to the firmware issue in 714862.

[Bug 992603] Re: [Lenovo E525] Touchpad can become disabled after suspend/resume

2012-07-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Thanks for the feedback, Greg. That tells us this bug is fixed in
v3.4-rc2 or later. You've already tested v3.4-rc4 and reported it is
fixed there. The final two release candidates to test would be:

v3.4-rc2: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-rc2-precise/
v3.4-rc3: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.4-rc3-precise/

If you find the bug is fixed in rc2, then there will be no need to test
rc3. We can then bisect between the last bad kernel and first good
kernel.

Thanks again for testing!

[Bug 989814] Re: Albatross: GTK3 apps are hard to read (white on light grey)

2012-07-03 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
There is now a release of Albatross that fixes all these issues with Gtk3.
You can grab it here: https://github.com/shimmerproject/Albatross/tarball/v1.2

This will land in Quantal, since it's a complete rewrite of the Gtk3
theme it probably won't get to Precise :(

OK, finally found time to fix this bug (in the bright-menus branch of

[Bug 1013647] Re: no boot at kernel load 3.2.0-25-generic

2012-07-03 Thread Cordy
Uhm. Something unexpected again happened. v3 now boots fine. Mmm... I
tested it twice, so the only difference is that I did not install and
than purge v1 and v2.

?

Maybe, something happens before init is being invoked. Maybe during the
installation process, approximately when update-initramfs is being
called?

Or, maybe, it's a random problem? I tested the system and it seems to
work fine. It usually works perfectly and consistently with kernel
version 3.2.0-24... Boh? :)

Let me know how can I further help.
