[Bug 1074951] Re: I get an icon for a floppy drive in Unity and Nautilus , but i have none

2012-11-06 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the
other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next
to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1074539] Re: Opening Preferences shows read error for home

2012-11-06 Thread schamane
I'd like to add that

1) This bug can easily be reproduced by means of a standard Ubuntu Live
CD. After booting the Live CD check that opening the preferences works
without problems. Then enter the command(s)

ls -od /home; sudo chmod 711 /home; ls -od /home

which should show (apart from the date)

  drwxr-xr-x 1 root 60 Nov 6 2012 /home
  drwx--x--x 1 root 60 Nov 6 2012 /home

Open preferences again and it will show the error message Could not
read the contents of home. Permission denied.

2) I am sorry, but, indeed this bug must be caused by a component that
gnome-terminal is using and not by gnome-terminal itself. In the
meantime I found another program that shows the same error
(soundconverter) and there are probably more.

[Bug 1059471] Re: 2.41 fails to mount root partition

2012-11-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mountall - 2.43

---
mountall (2.43) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix a regression introduced in 2.41: parse_mountinfo() doesn't
generate a mounted event for a filesystem whose canonicalized
mountpoint doesn't match the mountpoint specified in /etc/fstab. So
we still need to call mounted() explicitly for this case. LP: #1059471.

inadvertently clicked hide toolbar. Now I cannot get it back. Also there
is no place to right-click because the menu bar is also hidden. I tried
to uninstall keepassx and reinstall, but the menu bar and toolbar
remain hidden. See screenshot. Your help / suggestions would be greatly
appreciated - thanks in advance...

Re: [Bug 1075389] Re: No Brightness Control nor Bluetooth using Toshiba L850-1HZ

2012-11-06 Thread Manuel Silva
Hello Joseph,

I can't do the testing right now because I might have to return the machine
with the system as is (including bootloader) if it doesn't fit my needs.
I'll try to install Ubuntu to my external HDD and boot from it but it will
take several days once I don't have my HDD with me.

Is there any way to get a live cd nightly build or so with that kernel
version?

Best regards,

+ As of Quantal, I can't link programs that depend on libstk, because

[Bug 1075709] Re: Regression: systemtap fails to discover installed debug modules

2012-11-06 Thread Alain Kalker
I want to retract / close the bug report.

There appears to have been a race condition between me installing the
debugging symbols ddeb and a kernel update being available. (Don't I
just _love_ the fact that kernel packages are named after their version
and not version+build number? Grrr..!)

[Bug 1073077] Re: zsh complains about locale_warn on launch

2012-11-06 Thread Scott Moser
It would seem to me that this is a bug in zsh.
It is demonstrable like this:

ubuntu@quantal$ sh -c 'f=foo=bar; echo ${f%%=*}'
foo
ubuntu@quantal$ bash -c 'f=foo=bar; echo ${f%%=*}'
foo
ubuntu@quantal$ zsh -c 'f=foo=bar; echo ${f%%=*}'
zsh:1: * not found

It is work-aroundable by escaping the '=' in the shell suffix match with a '\'.
 Ie:
zsh -c 'f=foo=bar; echo ${f%%\=*}'
foo

** Also affects: zsh (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided

** Description changed:

+ zsh complains if an '=' occurs in a suffix or prefix shell parameter
+ expansion.

After upgrading my Amazon machine to Ubuntu 12.04, every time I run zsh I get
the following output:
- locale_warn:13: * not found
+ locale_warn:13: * not found

Apparenlty this is caused by the file /etc/profile.d/Z99-cloud-locale-
test.sh in the cloud-init package. zsh always outputs an error when a
glob like * fails to match any files.

[Bug 1066376] Re: keyboard doesn't work to enter password with panda and encrypted partitions

2012-11-06 Thread Adam Conrad
** Description changed:

- Installing quantal server on panda from the 20121013 image, a normal
- install with guided partitioning works fine, and keyboard works during
- and post-install.
+ This ended up being two bugs, one is for missing modules in the
+ initramfs-tools static list (which is true for all arches), and one is
+ that ARM specifically seems to be getting a wonky initrd. The precise
+ SRU is targetting only the former issue, so lts-quantal kernels (which
+ don't build on ARM) can have USB keyboards still functional in their
+ initrds.
+
+ [IMPACT]
+ Users with certain USB keyboards and no USB-PS/2 BIOS emulation will no
longer have keyboard control in their initrds after upgrading to an lts-quantal
kernel.
+
+ [TEST CASE]
+ If you have the affected hardware, re-run update-initramfs -u both with and
without the updated initramfs-tools (with a quantal kernel installed on
precise), reboot with break=bottom on the command line, and see if you have a
keyboard.
+
+ If you don't have the affected hardware, do the above initrd generation,
+ and compare results, the new one should include hid-logitech-dj and hid-
+ generic.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Next to none. initrds may get a tiny bit larger, but not by any meaningful
amount.
+
+ [Original description]
+ Installing quantal server on panda from the 20121013 image, a normal install
with guided partitioning works fine, and keyboard works during and post-install.

However, if I select lvm+encrypted partitions from the partitioning
screen, after rebooting the keyboard does not work for entering the
password to unlock the disk, which prevents booting the system.

[Bug 1075714] [NEW] Sync winff 1.4.3-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2012-11-06 Thread Paul Gevers
Public bug reported:

Please sync winff 1.4.3-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fixed failure to find avconv instead of ffmpeg after the conversion
of Ubuntu to libav (LP: #1058380)
  * Fixed failure to find avconv instead of ffmpeg after the conversion
of Ubuntu to libav (LP: #1058380)

The changes needed in Quantal were included in the 1.4.3 release of winff
(actually, they were the REASON for the new release). So, the change patch
can be dropped as it is included in 1.4.3. The update is in experimental,
as Debian is currently in freeze, so this way it can easily enter Ubuntu.

Changelog entries since current raring version 1.4.2-3ubuntu1:

winff (1.4.3-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
- Drop all patches as they are now in the release
- Remove shuffling of winff.po file in rules as it is now solved upstream
  * debian/control
- Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.4 (no changes).

 -- Paul Gevers elb...@debian.org Sat, 06 Oct 2012 20:30:04 +0200

winff (1.4.2-4) experimental; urgency=low

  * Update d/control and d/copyright with my debian.org address
  * Build both a Qt and a GTK2 variant of winff now bug #627345 is closed.
- d/control: add winff-qt and winff-gtk2 and let winff depend on either
- Versioned Build-Depends on lcl-qt4 (instead of lcl-qt which doesn't exist)
- d/rules: build twice with different widget set
- d/winff-gtk2.* and d/winff-qt.*: add control files
- use alternatives to choose between variants in postinst and prerm
- symlink winff-gtk2 and winff-qt manpage to winff manpage
  * Rewrite d/rules to uses short style dh
- Raise Build-Depends on debhelper to 7.0.50~
- Remove find line as all permissions are now correct by default after
  dh_fixperms
  * Remove debugging code in d/rules

[Bug 1075717] [NEW] mounted-dev must not re-create consoles in a container

2012-11-06 Thread Serge Hallyn
Public bug reported:

mounted-dev.conf always does MAKEDEV console. MAKEDEV doesn't just make
the devices, it first removes them.

When a container starts, it sets up /dev/console and /dev/lxc[1-4] as
bind mounts of ptys on the host, for use as lxc consoles. If mounted-
dev deletes and recreates those, then none of the lxc consoles work.

A simple patch which stops it from breaking lxc consoles is at lp
:~serge-hallyn/ubuntu/quantal/mountall/mountall-lxc . However looking
back at it, I think it would be ok to do a further check for whether
/dev/console exists. If it does not exist, then MAKEDEV console anyway.
This isn't necessary, just a thought.

[Bug 1004932] Re: kdm.conf file not removed after dpkg-reconfigure

2012-11-06 Thread monochromec
Reopening this again as the proposed solution by Harald is not even a
workaround but probably considered by the majority of people as a mere
hack as ANY display manager upstart script is executed in the first
place only to see if /etc/x11/default-display-manager contains a DM of
choice or not. With many DM conf files cluttering up /etc/init this adds
additional overhead during system start which can be avoided.

A way more elegant solution would be for a corresponding DEB-package to
check if the conf file for the respective display manager is already
present in /etc/init (if disabled enabling it again) - if not, copy it
from the DEB package and disabling any other DM conf files present in
/etc/init.

[Bug 1068404] Re: 1002:6760 Switchable graphics on Radeon HD 6400M not working again

2012-11-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

After installing the latest fglrx-updates package on Ubuntu 12.10
(fglrx-updates_9.000-0ubuntu3_amd64) I have the same issue that was
present before AMD fixed switchable graphics on PowerXpress 4.0 cards
(such as my HD 6470M coupled with the intel HD Graphics 3000 of my intel
Core i5-2430M). The X server has a segmentation fault and the low
  graphics mode is activated.

As per Nick Andrik, this is a version regression of xserver-xorg-video-
intel from 2.20.2 (working and in below mentioned PPA) and 2.20.3. The
  regression commit is http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-
  intel/commit/?id=05dcc5f1699ba90fc14c50882e8d4be89bc4a4f9 .

[Bug 1002792] Re: emesene crashes with assertion failed in gtkstylecontext.c

2012-11-06 Thread Riccardo 'c10ud'
Ok, since I wanted to run gtk3 in Precise, I uploaded a modified version
of light-themes in the emesene-stable PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~emesene-team/+archive/emesene-
stable/+build/3959490

This version differs from the precise-proposed one: it removes the
transition properties that make the program crash.

[Bug 1075146] Re: libxml2 2.9.0+dfsg1-3 FTBFS in raring

2012-11-06 Thread Aron Xu
Hi Daniel,

I don't have time to do the tests right now, but looking at the build
log it maybe related to DSO linking, which I'm not sure whether it has
been done correctly on Debian. If you have time could you test if it
fails when forcing DSO linking on Debian? There are quite a few upstream
build system changes in 2.9.0 and it could be newly introduced a bug as
well.

[Bug 1075713] Re: RT2x00 modules doesn't connect

2012-11-06 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 484089 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484089

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Looks like this bug unfortunatly has existed for quite some time. I
found bug 484089 a while ago describing the same issue, so I'm marking
this as a duplicate. One of the comments seem to suggest it is possible
to install the older amd64 package, but I don't know whether that would
still work.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 484089
Won't work on amd64 because Fenix (dependency) it's not available in
9.10/amd64

  * Upload to experimental, as we are in freeze.
  * Get rid of .pth files, dh_python2's namespace support is sufficient.
(LP: #796992, #583426)
