[Bug 440179] Re: service fails to start/stop/restart networking daemon

2013-05-17 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Yufei, thanks for your concerns. Hoever, this is not the appropriate
bug to comment on as it has been marked released for a long time, and is
probably not relevant to current versions of Ubuntu. If you are
experiencing an issue with networking, you should file a new bug against
the ifupdown package.

[Bug 1181318] [NEW] Very frequent crash of xorg

2013-05-17 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

I'm observing very frequent crashes of xorg. They starts after transition to
new monitor with resolution 2560x1440 on Raring, now on Saucy they are very
frequent.
Mainly, occurs at usage of Resize Window compiz plugin, opening youtube video
to fullscreen and opening video in vlc to fullscreen.

Sometimes it resumes to work (like reloading of compiz), sometimes
resumes without compiz (impossible to use after this), sometimes xorg
crashes at all.

[Bug 1181234] Re: octave segmentation fault with libopenblas-base

2013-05-17 Thread Federico Carotenuto
The CPU I'm using is an Intel Core i7-3770 @3.4 GHz with 8 cores.

I'm sorry I'm not a huge linux expert and I've never used gdb: can you
tell me how to do the backtrace (or point me to a good tutorial)?

Due to software compatibility I cannot update to 13.04: is there a way
just to add the repo of openblas?

Thank you very much

@James: thanks, I've backported that patch to saucy ... is the
xkeyboard-config change enough or do we still need other component
patched? Do we need to SRU that as well?

[Bug 1181323] [NEW] Nautilus opens a new window when clicked to open an existing window

2013-05-17 Thread Abhishek
Public bug reported:

Open the new 'Files' browser and access a directory which is not in the
partition containing root and then minimise the window. If now you click
on it's icon in the unity panel to display the window again, the browser
opens a NEW window displaying the home directory.

This happens only when a directory external to the root drive is opened
initially. Also, the problem is resolved if the 'Files' icon is not
docked on the launcher.

[Bug 1181318] Re: Very frequent crash of xorg

2013-05-17 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 reproducible saucy third-
party-packages ubuntu

** Description changed:

I'm observing very frequent crashes of xorg. They starts after transition to
new monitor with resolution 2560x1440 on Raring, now on Saucy they are very
frequent.
Mainly, occurs at usage of Resize Window compiz plugin, opening youtube video
to fullscreen and opening video in vlc to fullscreen.

Sometimes it resumes to work (like reloading of compiz), sometimes
resumes without compiz (impossible to use after this), sometimes xorg
  crashes at all.

Graphics card Radeon HD6570, radeon driver.

[Bug 1124390] Re: bcmwl driver causing 3.8 kernel panic with BCM4331

2013-05-17 Thread Kelly Hyde
** Description changed:

The bcmwl driver is causing kernel panics throughout the system running
- the3.8 kernel. The panic can be reproduced in multiple ways, including:
+ the 3.8 kernel. The panic can be reproduced in multiple ways, including:

  1. Running sudo iwconfig (every time)
  2. Resuming from suspend (occasionally)
  3. Trying to report a bug from apportcheckresume

- The resuming from suspend case appears to be related to a wpa_supplicant
- error, where the kernel complains that wpa_ctrl_open is not a command.
Each kernel panic looks exactly like the one I have attached. In every
case, Xorg stops responding (in the resume case, the laptop gets stuck
on a black screen with a command line cursor) and the machine must be
  forcibly powered off.

Connecting to networks works perfectly fine, at both 802.11g and n
speeds. If none of the above commands are invoked, the driver operates
the network card without an issue.

My laptop has the BCM4331 wireless card and it's being managed by the wl
driver. When running sudo iwconfig, I was connected to an auto-mode
802.11b/g/n router (I believe I was connected via wireless-N because the
link speed shown was 144 Mbps).
+
+ A functional version of the bcmwl driver can be found in this PPA:
+ https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa To resolve this bug,
+ bcmwl-kernel-source in the official repositories for Raring needs to be
+ updated to 6.30.

  bcmwl-kernel-source version 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6

Re: [Bug 1173468] Re: release upgrade doesn't properly calculate free space needed for /boot

2013-05-17 Thread Bruce Miller
The same problem appears to have occurred during the upgrade from
3.8.0-19 to 3.8.0-21. In other words, this bug appears to be of broader
scope than just the release upgrade.

I worked around the problem by deleting the abi, initrd.img and
System.map files for 3.8.0-19. I did so with much trepidation, because
other life priorities have reduced the time I am able to spend to keep
my Linux knowledge as sharp as it once was.

This is the screen output from the upgrade process:

[Bug 1163492] Re: mouse speed too fast at lowest level

2013-05-17 Thread gja
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
I just switched mouses and my new mouse is too fast even at minimum speed in
the settings menu.

  old mouse: Dell mouse m-uvdel1
new mouse: Logitech mouse m-u0026 (from a Logitech MK120 mouse-keyboard set)

The new mouse is significantly faster at the lowest Ubuntu mouse speed
setting.
I can make it more usable by playing around with the xset command, but this
is not permanent.

When searching online for solutions, xset commands are mentioned and
modifying Xorg config files.
Is this fixed in later Ubuntu versions?

you should be able to just install the package from here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openblas

dpkg -i package-file.deb
apt-get install -f

for the backtrace:
gdb /usr/bin/octave
set logging on
run

[Bug 1180526] Re: [13.04] No automute w/ Intel HD Audio after suspend

2013-05-17 Thread Oliver Brakmann
By accident, I found another data point for this bug:

Normally, I have the headphones unplugged when I switch my PC on, and
the bug manifests itself as described above.

However, if the headphones are plugged in when I switch the PC on, it works
like this:
- the headphones work normally
- if the headphones are unplugged, then there is no sound at all

[Bug 1181330] [NEW] network-manager-gnome applet doesn't show options

2013-05-17 Thread charlee.papah
Public bug reported:

left clicking the applet should drop-down a list of connections, however
i get a pop-up menu titled connection properties: eth0 (see
scrrenshot)

right clicking the applet should give me a list of option in which are
included: Enable connections, Enable Wireless connections, etc.
However, all i get is the gnome panel options -- Properties ; Help ;
About ; etc. --. ( screenshot not available )

the About option says the applet is: Network Monitor 2.28.0 by Sun
Microsystems. I remember it used to say it was NetworkManager Applet
0.8 by RedHat...

i have network-manager and network-manager-gnome installed.

how can i get that applet back, any ideas please. i have exhausted the
google search.

[Bug 1181334] [NEW] i386 required to install amd64

2013-05-17 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

A system I was working on had amd64 files for raring imported, but did not have
i386.
That should be fine, since I'm only hoping to deploy to systems that are
identified as amd64.

However, trying to allocate and the start a node results in pxe timeout and
fallback to 'default' (which is enlistment) and then poweroff.

[Bug 1181330] Re: network-manager-gnome applet doesn't show options

2013-05-17 Thread charlee.papah
ok, so i went through the synaptic list again... to try and find the
right applet and i found gnome-status-applet (installed) version 2.28.0,
which coincides with the About information. So obviously this is not
the correct applet.

So I unistalled this, but lo and behold, after a restart the applet is
gone and no option is available in the applet menu.

Any ideas? How can i get the network-manager applet?

[Bug 1181330] Re: network-manager-gnome applet doesn't show options

2013-05-17 Thread charlee.papah
Apparently, the correct applet is network-manager-gnome, and i do have it
installed. It, however, does not appear in the Add to Panel menu. Any ideas
on how to get it there?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at Loading Music Library...

2013-05-17 Thread Mike L
I am more than willing to offer a small bounty of $10 to you in donation
money if this bug is fixed. I am not one to bribe, but Play Music has
been completely redesigned and there are bound to be even more than this
in terms of bugs with Play Music. I have donated before and promise to
donate again if this is fixed in a reasonably timely manner. I'm not
going to be ridiculous in my time span, but if possible I'd like to see
this fixed within a few days or weeks if possible. If it takes months,
I'd just like a brief explanation. I know this sounds like a bribe (and
it is), but think of it as a promised donation as well. I rely heavily
on Play Music, and want Nuvola modernized to accommodate that for me and
other users. Thanks. Now, with regards to the other bugs, good luck!
With the most massive update in a year or two, you'll need it.

[Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28

2013-05-17 Thread Kent Baxley
I wouldn't worry too much about the patches disappearing. As long as
they don't cause any regressions while the proposed kernel is being
tested, then you should see the updated kernel and backlight fixes go
out very soon. Some more info on the stable release cadence can be
found here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/StableReleaseCadence

The backlight issues for this laptop have been rather tricky to address,
and the 3.8 kernels for raring are the first ones to natively carry any
of the work from upstream in them (hence no need for a special ppa). As
you can see, it's taken some work to get it right, but, 13.04 and higher
should eventually contain a permanent fix.

True, looking back through it, I think I misinterpreted it. I took
the original idea to be use the mode (UEFI vs BIOS) which was used
for this current boot session. You can generate a grub.cfg for
another system without needing to chroot. grub-mkconfig lets you
redirect the output to any file you want. So, what's to prevent a
user from booting a recovery CD and, without using chroot, using:

 grub-mkconfig -o /media/MyRealUbuntuPartition/boot/grub/grub.cfg

Nothing, just like nothing prevents you from dd'ing /dev/zero all over
your drive. Don't do that. If you are trying to get a correct
grub.cfg, then you have to chroot since grub-mkconfig generates a
config to boot the system it finds in the current root.

But other OS's *can*. I can boot my linux partitions in UEFI or
BIOS mode. Furthermore, linux is what I turn to when I have trouble
booting any of my partitions. If I can just get to a linux prompt,
with fdisk/parted/grub/etc, then I can usually fix any other
booting problems. So, it would be helpful to be able to boot a
linux partition from BIOS mode if the EFI SP gets hosed. You can
choose not to support that; that's your choice, but I think there
are scenarios wherein it would be useful.

Whether it is useful or not, it isn't related to the subject of this
bug, which is booting windows.

[Bug 1171838] Re: Last nights isc-dhcp-server update fails to start

2013-05-17 Thread Robert E Blair
I have had this issue off and on for a couple of weeks. After much tearing of
hair and gnashing of teeth I believe I fixed it. In the upstart configuration
for isc-dhcp-server there is no stanza of the form:
/lib/init/apparmor-profile-load usr.sbin.dhcpd
I don't know about systems running NM but if you have a dhcp server running
likely you don't want NM taking your connections up and down (I remob\ved NM
from this system and statically configure the network) but the apparmor profile
likely needs to be there in cases where the network is statically configured.
The apparmor configuration likely is loaded too late on these systems and this
causes much grief.

[Bug 1181341] [NEW] Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP

2013-05-17 Thread Barry Drake
Public bug reported:

The e-mail account is at mail.crosswire.org. This account no longer has
an associated SMTP sending service. I use my googlemail account with an

not accessible. I will attach screenshots showing the problem. I only
discovered this before reporting the #1180302 and #1180302 bugs as I had
tried a completely clean setup in case the problem was my own.

Hello and thank you for this bug report,

Is it maybe possible to share a screenshot with us?
Do you also have this bug if you use the dock without the OpenGL backend?
   $ cairo-dock -c

Or with the default theme?
   $ cairo-dock -d ~/cd-tmp

[Bug 1181344] [NEW] python-keyring timeout on import if started with sudo

2013-05-17 Thread Germar
Public bug reported:

steps to reproduce:

Python 2.7.3 (default, Sep 26 2012, 21:53:58)

this will take ~25 seconds only on Xubuntu. If you do this on Ubuntu or
Kubuntu (all version 12.10) it will return immediately. Also if you
import keyring with normal user on Xubuntu it will return immediately.

It is caused by a dbus call in /usr/share/pyshared/keyring/backend.py function

[Bug 1181322] Re: Kernel 3.5 doesn't boot on a Lenovo G530 laptop

2013-05-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.10 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.
