[Bug 1181318] [NEW] Very frequent crash of xorg
Public bug reported: I'm observing very frequent crashes of xorg. They starts after transition to new monitor with resolution 2560x1440 on Raring, now on Saucy they are very frequent. [Bug 1181323] [NEW] Nautilus opens a new window when clicked to open an existing window
Public bug reported: Open the new 'Files' browser and access a directory which is not in the partition containing root and then minimise the window. If now you click on it's icon in the unity panel to display the window again, the browser opens a NEW window displaying the home directory. This happens only when a directory external to the root drive is opened initially. Also, the problem is resolved if the 'Files' icon is not docked on the launcher. [Bug 1181318] Re: Very frequent crash of xorg
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 reproducible saucy third- party-packages ubuntu ** Description changed: I'm observing very frequent crashes of xorg. They starts after transition to new monitor with resolution 2560x1440 on Raring, now on Saucy they are very frequent. Mainly, occurs at usage of Resize Window compiz plugin, opening youtube video to fullscreen and opening video in vlc to fullscreen. Sometimes it resumes to work (like reloading of compiz), sometimes resumes without compiz (impossible to use after this), sometimes xorg crashes at all. Trying to report a bug from apportcheckresume - The resuming from suspend case appears to be related to a wpa_supplicant - error, where the kernel complains that wpa_ctrl_open is not a command. Each kernel panic looks exactly like the one I have attached. In every case, Xorg stops responding (in the resume case, the laptop gets stuck on a black screen with a command line cursor) and the machine must be forcibly powered off. Connecting to networks works perfectly fine, at both 802.11g and n speeds. If none of the above commands are invoked, the driver operates the network card without an issue. My laptop has the BCM4331 wireless card and it's being managed by the wl driver. When running sudo iwconfig, I was connected to an auto-mode 802.11b/g/n router (I believe I was connected via wireless-N because the link speed shown was 144 Mbps). + + A functional version of the bcmwl driver can be found in this PPA: + https://launchpad.net/~eugenesan/+archive/ppa To resolve this bug, + bcmwl-kernel-source in the official repositories for Raring needs to be + updated to 6.30. bcmwl-kernel-source version 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu6 network-manager version 0.9.7.995+git201301311547.17123fc-0ubuntu1 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: linux-image-3.8.0-6-generic 3.8.0-6.11 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-6.11-generic 3.8.0-rc7 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-6-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.8-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: polarimetric 2236 F pulseaudio CurrentDmesg: [ 25.228391] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 25.228863] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 25.354790] init: plymouth-stop pre-start process (1501) terminated with status 1 Date: Wed Feb 13 13:13:01 2013 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=e6de4934-3dd3-42fc-954f-60d2f553fbb7 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-02-09 (4 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail - Alpha amd64+mac (20130208) MachineType: Apple Inc. Re: [Bug 1173468] Re: release upgrade doesn't properly calculate free space needed for /boot
The same problem appears to have occurred during the upgrade from 3.8.0-19 to 3.8.0-21. In other words, this bug appears to be of broader scope than just the release upgrade. I worked around the problem by deleting the abi, initrd.img and System.map files for 3.8.0-19. I did so with much trepidation, because other life priorities have reduced the time I am able to spend to keep my Linux knowledge as sharp as it once was. [Bug 1176221] Re: Nuvola doesn't load Google Music service, stops at Loading Music Library...
I am more than willing to offer a small bounty of $10 to you in donation money if this bug is fixed. I am not one to bribe, but Play Music has been completely redesigned and there are bound to be even more than this in terms of bugs with Play Music. I have donated before and promise to donate again if this is fixed in a reasonably timely manner. I'm not going to be ridiculous in my time span, but if possible I'd like to see this fixed within a few days or weeks if possible. If it takes months, I'd just like a brief explanation. I know this sounds like a bribe (and it is), but think of it as a promised donation as well. I rely heavily on Play Music, and want Nuvola modernized to accommodate that for me and other users. Thanks. Now, with regards to the other bugs, good luck! [Bug 1169376] Re: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28
I wouldn't worry too much about the patches disappearing. As long as they don't cause any regressions while the proposed kernel is being tested, then you should see the updated kernel and backlight fixes go out very soon. Some more info on the stable release cadence can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/StableReleaseCadence The backlight issues for this laptop have been rather tricky to address, and the 3.8 kernels for raring are the first ones to natively carry any of the work from upstream in them (hence no need for a special ppa). As you can see, it's taken some work to get it right, but, 13.04 and higher should eventually contain a permanent fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169376 Title: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1169376/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On 5/17/2013 12:32 PM, Joseph Emenaker wrote: True, looking back through it, I think I misinterpreted it. I took the original idea to be use the mode (UEFI vs BIOS) which was used for this current boot session. You can generate a grub.cfg for another system without needing to chroot. grub-mkconfig lets you redirect the output to any file you want. So, what's to prevent a user from booting a recovery CD and, without using chroot, using: grub-mkconfig -o /media/MyRealUbuntuPartition/boot/grub/grub.cfg Nothing, just like nothing prevents you from dd'ing /dev/zero all over your drive. Don't do that. If you are trying to get a correct grub.cfg, then you have to chroot since grub-mkconfig generates a config to boot the system it finds in the current root. But other OS's *can*. I can boot my linux partitions in UEFI or BIOS mode. Furthermore, linux is what I turn to when I have trouble booting any of my partitions. If I can just get to a linux prompt, with fdisk/parted/grub/etc, then I can usually fix any other booting problems. So, it would be helpful to be able to boot a linux partition from BIOS mode if the EFI SP gets hosed. You can choose not to support that; that's your choice, but I think there are scenarios wherein it would be useful. [Bug 1171838] Re: Last nights isc-dhcp-server update fails to start
I have had this issue off and on for a couple of weeks. After much tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth I believe I fixed it. In the upstart configuration for isc-dhcp-server there is no stanza of the form: /lib/init/apparmor-profile-load usr.sbin.dhcpd I don't know about systems running NM but if you have a dhcp server running likely you don't want NM taking your connections up and down (I remob\ved NM from this system and statically configure the network) but the apparmor profile likely needs to be there in cases where the network is statically configured. [Bug 1181341] [NEW] Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP
Public bug reported: The e-mail account is at mail.crosswire.org. This account no longer has an associated SMTP sending service. I use my googlemail account with an alias to send e-mails. I can get the account recognised but when the 'Danger' notice appears, there is no checkbox, and the 'Done' button is not accessible. I will attach screenshots showing the problem. I only discovered this before reporting the #1180302 and #1180302 bugs as I had tried a completely clean setup in case the problem was my own.
