[Bug 1189088] Re: Unity Dash, left mouse button starts preview instead of directly the application

2013-08-30 Thread Sb
Oh no, for files PLEASE don't force an extra step on users just to open
a known file. Left clicking should ALWAYS open anything clicked, and
right clicking should ALWAYS preview it. It would be terribly clumsy to
have to wade through previews of files that are already well known to
the user when he just wants to open the stinking file.

[Bug 1219169] [NEW] unity lens doesnt show anything, and it seems that there is a .service config file missing from dbus-1 folder

2013-08-30 Thread Nicolás José Diego Narváez Barría
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.10, completly updated

i´ve been like a week withouth being able to use the dash for open
applications, yes, i´ve doing that fom the console all this time,
learning the bin programs names from share/applications folder, and is
pretty fancy get more in touch with that, but, i want to be able of use
the dash some time (i didnt did anything until now because i believed it
was going to be fixed with an update(aniway i dont remeber if an update
caused this)) :

details:
when i open de unity dash, its completly empty, no lens, no files, nothing,
just the message "nothing matches your search"

so:
i executed: unity --replace , to see console output when i open the dash

there is this error message:

WARN 2013-08-31 01:57:37 unity.libunity-protocol-private :0
unity-scope-proxy-remote.vala:399: Unable to set_active
(/com/canonical/unity/home):
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
com.canonical.Unity.Scope.Home was not provided by any .service files

then i tried to create my own .service file for the
/usr/share/dbus-1/services folder, seeing how they wehere defined, and
the structure of the /usr/share/unity/scopes too. I didnt found anything
useful in the man doc for unity-scope-loader. And my pretty .service
file was creating system errors.

so i end up clueles...
i logged out, and open a vitual console in f1
i purgen unity-services and other packages, and reinstalled them

everything is the same

i dont what to understand the complet way unity works internally, and i
dont whant to purge all unity or ubuntu, so im asking here, and i hope
my mecanically cold and desperate sorrows are heard :|

[Bug 1219165] [NEW] libtool 2.4.2-1.2ubuntu1 produces packages that don't work on OSX where upstream 2.4.2 does not

2013-08-30 Thread Kenton Varda
Public bug reported:

The following package was built using libtoolize from Ubuntu Raring's
libtool package (2.4.2-1.2ubuntu1):

http://capnproto.org/capnproto-c++-0.3.0-rc1.tar.gz

The package builds three libraries: libkj, libcapnp, and libcapnpc.
libcapnpc depends on libcapnp which depends on libkj.

On Mac OSX, the link step for libcapnpc fails, claiming that symbols
defined in libkj are undefined.

I installed GNU's libtool 2.4.2 source package and rebuilt the package,
creating:

http://capnproto.org/capnproto-c++-0.3.0-rc2.tar.gz

This version builds correctly on OSX.

Apparently, Ubuntu's version has a patch which changes the way
dependencies are handled.

This may be in some part my fault. When I make this change to
Makefile.am:

- libcapnpc_la_LIBADD = $(PTHREAD_LIBS) libcapnp.la
+ libcapnpc_la_LIBADD = $(PTHREAD_LIBS) libcapnp.la libkj.la

Then the problem goes away. I'm not sure if I was supposed to specify
it that way, or if libtool is expected to link transitive dependencies
automatically. However, it seems very suspicious that Ubuntu's version
behaves differently from upstream in a way that breaks some uses.

[Bug 1181495] Re: Strange bug in Ubuntu 13.04 (apt and more) [bash-completion]

2013-08-30 Thread Nedyalko Dyakov
** Summary changed:

- Strange bug in Ubuntu 13.04 (apt and more)
+ Strange bug in Ubuntu 13.04 (apt and more) [bash-completion]

** Description changed:

  Hello,
I faced a strange bug with bash-completion when i'm trying to remove a
package.
  Example:
  Before
   └─$ which htop
  /usr/bin/htop
   └─$ sudo apt-get remove hto
  After
   └─$ sudo apt-get remove hto^[[m^[[K^[[m^[[Kp

I experienced this in Xubuntu 13.04 and Ubuntu Server 13.04 both 64bit
  Both apt-get versions are :
  apt 0.9.7.7ubuntu4 for amd64 compiled on Apr 12 2013 23:49:05
I found the same thing occurs with dpkg-reconfigure, dpkg version:
Debian `dpkg' package management program version 1.16.10 (amd64).
If you need more information, please ask i will provide. This is really
annoying so i would like to help to be fixed.
+
+ My bash-completion version is : 1:2.0-1ubuntu3
+ As I see there is no other version for 13.04, and for the moment this version
is
+ in the 13.10 repos.

[Bug 1107150] Re: B75 Chipset I/O Problems

2013-08-30 Thread avdd
I was having the problem originally described: very slow 'reading
package lists' in 'apt-get update'

Using 32 bit kernel 3.5.0-39-generic on latest thinkpad X230 with 16 GB
RAM. Samsung 840 pro.

Either of two things made the problem go away:

 - reduce RAM to 8 GB
 - downgrade to kernel 3.2.0-52-generic-pae

Didn't try the available 3.8 package as the vbox drivers had previously
failed to compile so I removed it.

[Bug 1219141] Re: package wine-gecko1.4 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: short read on buffer copy for backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/share/wine/gecko/wine_gecko-1.4-x86.msi'

2013-08-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 912488] Re: Turning Bluetooth off turns Wifi off

2013-08-30 Thread Stéphane Guillou
I also have this problem on my HP Pavilion dm1 with 12.04 up to date.
Very annoying as bluetooth drains the battery.

Is Bug #658675 related to this? This is not a duplicate, as it was asked
to report a new bug in case something similar arose.

Cheers

[Bug 989396] Re: Package keyboard-configuration post-installation script. Hang on /bin/setupcon --force --save for 10 min then killed

2013-08-30 Thread Stuart Longland
Well, I've been battling this for the past 8 hours.

I'm trying to configure some virtual machines. My intention is to
provision some real machines for use in an Ceph/OpenStack cluster.
Since it'll probably take a few attempts, I want to automate as much as
possible.

As a test, I am doing the deployment with a stack of VMs running under
libvirtd/kvm on Gentoo. The actual machines will be headless 99% of the
time (the remaining 1% will be for maintenance), so I couldn't give two
hoots what keyboard layout it picks — we may even be setting up a serial
device server and using serial console in the real deployment. Sadly, I
don't see a way to skip this.

The set-up is a TFTP dishing out the netboot images and pxelinux
configuration scripts. HTTP dishing out preseed files; one per host.

I have tried with Ubuntu 13.10, 13.04 and 12.04, all AMD64 architecture.
I have tried specifying the keyboard settings in the pre-seed file, and on the
kernel command line, I've also tried leaving it out and answering on the
console. No dice.

Maybe one attempt in 20 works and I get a working installation, but most
of the time, install hangs at the "Configuring keyboard-configuration"
step. There seems to be no rhyme or reason why it suddenly works, then
doesn't.

The libvirt-manager CPU monitor seems to indicate activity consistent
with a system that's waiting for input. But what? Where? How? It
doesn't ask. It doesn't make it clear what it's wanting, or how I'm to
provide it. It's not a matter of time either; I left VMs installing
earlier this morning about 1AM … 6-7 hours later, I wake up, check on
them, they're stuck at this very point.

What do I do?

[Bug 1219136] [NEW] High memory usage after creating thumbnail cache.

2013-08-30 Thread Martin Endres
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce the issue:

- Clear shotwell cache files.
- Start shotwell.
- Scrolling through library, generating thumbnails.

Expected Result: Moderate memory usage. Used memory for generating
thumbnails will be available for the system later again.

Actual Result: In comparison to normal usage (~30MB), Shotwell uses over
800MB RAM which isn't available to the system after generating
thumbnails finished.

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-08-30 Thread Andy Meier
Ubuntu 13.04
Intel SSD
i7 4770S
Using the processor graphics with the default driver.

I got the black screen with a white mouse cursor about a quarter the
time on boot and finally discovered the machine wasn't broken/crappy by
pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 to see if tty1 would work (previously I would just
press reset when the black screen issue came up).

I tried the sleep workaround here and have had good results so far (I used a 1
second delay):
http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/ubuntu-lightdm-black-screen-when-using.html

Is there some way to detect the error state and present an error message
to the user instead of the black screen? A fix would be better but it
would be nice if we could at least give a little feedback so users don't
assume Ubuntu is broken.

There were fixes released in ca-certificates-java (20121112+nmu1) / ca-

with the /etc/ca-certificates/update.d/jks-keystore hook and upgrading.
I'm going to mark this one as fixed.

[Bug 1219126] [NEW] Background colour changes at random when changing Xfce icon theme

2013-08-30 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Open an image in ristretto and zoom out so you can see the background fill
colour - normally black.
2. Open XFCE appearance settings and change the icon theme a few times.

When you do this, the background fill sometimes changes to random
colours. It does not matter which icon themes you use. I would guess
that it is probably an uninitialized variable or pointer error.
