Sorry, I was confused: I thought Fix released applied to precise also, which
is not true obviously.
However I was successful with the quantal packages
(qemu-*-1.2.0+noroms-0ubuntu2.12.10.5, seabios_1.7.0-1, vgabios_0.7a-3ubuntu2).
After installing those and a night full of test runs, things appear to be fine

[Bug 1229572] [NEW] backport SecureBoot support from 13.10 for 12.04.4

2013-09-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

This is a meta-bug for backporting SecureBoot support from 13.10 for
12.04.4. To fully update the SecureBoot stack for 12.04.4 and fix a
number of outstanding bugs, we will have to update a number of packages:

 - gnu-efi: update to upstream version 3.0u, so new upstream shim is buildable
in precise.
 - sbsigntool: update the backport from 0.6-0ubuntu1 to 0.6-0ubuntu4, to
include various fixes so build-time validation of shim-signed is possible
(i.e., so recent shim-signed is buildable in precise).
 - shim: binary-copy of 0.4-0ubuntu4 from saucy, so we don't have to round-trip
to Microsoft for a separate signature for each release of what should be
functionally the same program
 - shim-signed: binary-copy of 1.4 from saucy (once shim 0.4-0ubuntu4 has been
signed by Microsoft)

We should also backport grub2 support for generating signed netboot
images, but this can be handled as a separate bug report.

[Impact]
A number of OEM devices that ship with Secure Boot enabled are reported to not
be able to boot 12.04.3, due to bugs in the pre-release version of shim
included in that point release. The only practical means of addressing this is
by updating the related packages to the current versions; cherry-picking
individual bugfixes is error-prone and time-consuming. This will pull in some
new features in addition to the bugfixes - such as netboot support - but this
is also justifiable from a hardware-enablement perspective in the LTS.

[Test Case]
1. Rebuild all reverse-dependencies of gnu-efi in precise: refit, efilinux,
elilo, shim, sbsigntool, and verify that they're buildable
2. Verify that the resulting shim binary build is functional by using it to
boot a UEFI machine with and without SecureBoot enabled
3. Rebuild shim-signed from precise against the new sbsigntool, and verify it
builds correctly
4. Rebuild shim-signed from precise-proposed against the new sbsigntool, and
verify that it also builds correctly
5. Install linux-signed-generic-lts-raring from precise-updates and verify that
it works with the new sbsigntool
6. Verify that linux-signed-lts-raring builds from source with the new
sbsigntool

[Regression Potential]
This is a significant update to bootloader code which carries risk of
regressing an unknown number of systems and rendering them unbootable. This
risk is mitigated by the fact that there have been no reports of regression
with the new version of shim in saucy, and the plan is to do a binary copy so
if it works in saucy it should work in precise. There have also been multiple
reports of machines successfully booting with shim 0.4 which failed with the
earlier versions, making this worth the risk.

[Bug 1229560] Re: Lubuntu Saucy entire disc install stalls with error warning

2013-09-24 Thread Erick Brunzell
Running Check from Gparted cleared that error flag on sda1, but it's
not possible on a swap partition.

Since I wanted an entire disc install anyway I'd think it best to just
create a new partition table, but I really need to see if I can figure
out a way to reproduce this.

Re: [Bug 1220086] Re: Google Earth still depends on ia32-libs

2013-09-24 Thread Adnan Hodzic
That's because Google Earth does really depend on ia32-libs.

Application won't work without this dependency, theoretically there's a way
to isolate only the particular ia32-libs that are used by Google Earth. But
I'm afraid this would take too much time and effort.

Google Earth (googleearth-package) works just fine on both Sid and Jessie,
if you have any suggestion on what dependency should I make it instead of
ia32-libs on Ubuntu please do.

Regards,

Adnan

[Bug 1220086] Re: Google Earth still depends on ia32-libs

2013-09-24 Thread tbjablin
Running:
ldd /usr/lib/googleearth/googleearth-bin | sed s/ =.*/$/g | xargs -n1
apt-file -x search | grep /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu | sed s/:.*/:i386/g

Gives a complete list of the packages used by Google Earth at install
time. Can you incorporate it into the packaging script? The only
difficulty occurs when two packages provide a libraries with the same
name, for example: primus-libs:i386 and libgl1-mesa-glx:i386.

[Bug 1229591] [NEW] display brightness keys stop working after saucy upgrade

2013-09-24 Thread Chris Stratford
Public bug reported:

On raring (and precise) the display brightness keys (fn+f4 and fn+f5) on
my Dell Inspiron 14z turned the brightness up and down. After a saucy
upgrade this no longer happens (I don't see the popup brightness bubble
either). The other, similar keys (volume adjustment, etc) still work
fine.

Changing the values in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness
works (temporarily - it gets reset after the screen lock kicks in)

I tried following the instructions in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting but this appears to be
out of date (it references /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt which
does not exist)

[Bug 1229580] Re: No .a file in libpcsclite-dev package

2013-09-24 Thread Ludovic Rousseau
It is not a bug but a feature.

From the debian/changelog file:
pcsc-lite (1.6.0-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * debian/libpcsclite-dev.install: do not install libpcsclite.a since it is
no more built upstream.

Why do you need the static library?

2013-09-24 Thread Raymond
in patch_realtek.c

there is a snd_pci_quirk_vendor for all sony vaio to use

static const struct hda_fixup alc269_fixups[] = {
[ALC269_FIXUP_SONY_VAIO] = {
.type = HDA_FIXUP_PINCTLS,
.v.pins = (const struct hda_pintbl[]) {

}
},

SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x104d, 0x9073, Sony VAIO,

SND_PCI_QUIRK_VENDOR(0x104d, Sony VAIO, ALC269_FIXUP_SONY_VAIO),

AFAIK the SONY has two microphones onboard.

do you mean the left and right channels are in inverted phase ?

if yes, try mute the right channel of Capture Switch

Simple mixer control 'Capture',0

  Front Left: Capture 127 [100%] [30.00dB] [on]
  Front Right: Capture 127 [100%] [30.00dB] [off]

usually the laptop use either pin sense of headphone jack or mic jack to detect
the headset instead of both

[Bug 1228689] Re: sony vaio pro 13 internal microphone not working

2013-09-24 Thread Yuv
 https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/hda

has no packages for Saucy. I downloaded the raring tarball and built it
locally, but it does not work:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/hda-jack-sense-test, line 47, in module
codec = HDACodec(cardindex, codecindex)
File /usr/share/snd-hda-tools/hda_codec.py, line 1023, in __init__
self.fd = os.open(/dev/snd/hwC%sD%s % (card, device), os.O_RDWR)
OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/dev/snd/hwC0D0'

I also copeid it to my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~yuv/+archive/yuv-stuff

The package conflicts with alsa-tools

I did some web search and was not able to source a working hda-jack-
sense-test from anywhere else, sorry. However I think I got a sense
where you are going to. I started hdajackretask. It gives me two
codecs to select from: Intel Haswell HDMI and Realtek ALC286, which is
also reported by `cat /proc/asound/card*/codec* | grep Codec`

Intel Haswell HDMI is not what I am looking for. It shows three pins,
all of them set to Digital Out, HDMI: 0x05, 0x06, 0x07.

Realteks ALC286 is more interesting, especially when showing also
unconnected pins:

0x12 Internal Mic
0x13 Not Connected
0x14 Internal Speaker
0x17 Not connected
0x18 Black Mic, Right Side
0x19 Not connected
0x1a Not connected
0x1d Not connected
0x1e Not connected
0x21 Black Headphone, Right Side

Somebody more knowledgeable than me can tell me how to override those,
but I did not see anywhere a headset listed.

I did not find any reference to ALC286 in
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/sound/alsa/HD-Audio-Models.txt
even though I found some post of a commit support ALC286

Also no luck in http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/audio_intel_hda#sony

Now it is long past 4AM and tomorrow I have a full day in school, sorry
I could not get further than this and thanks for your continued help and
support.

[Bug 1229608] [NEW] online search of videos returns irrelevant results

2013-09-24 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

Online search of videos returns irrelevant results (same results on
phone and desktop)

I'm located in France and desktop is in English, here are the results
for:

With the keyword 'news':
first results of 'Online' returns a German TV magazine
'More Suggestions' returns Indian movies!

With the keyword 'info':
in 'Online' almost only Spanish or Portuguese results nothing related to some
kind of information or really outdated
'More Suggestions' returns more Indian movies!

[Bug 1229611] [NEW] Apport package hooks might be incomplete, when file a bug against the kernel in 12.04.3, only Dependency.txt will be uploaded

2013-09-24 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

When file a bug against the kernel using ubuntu-bug linux in fresh installed
12.04.3 (3.8 kernel)
The package will be change to linux-lts-raring automatically, which is a normal
behavior according to bug 1218183
But the problem is only the Dependency.txt will be appended to the bug report.

I have to change the affected package from linux-lts-raring to linux on
launchpad and run apport-collect to upload other log files.

Maybe there is something to do with the package hook.

[Bug 1229609] [NEW] wrong Architecture: line

2013-09-24 Thread Rebecca Palmer
Public bug reported:

Emscripten is marked Architecture: any, but indirectly (via nodejs)
depends on libv8-3.14.5 which is not, and is hence held in -proposed for
unsatisfiable dependencies on powerpc.

This is fixed in Debian by changing the Architecture: line of
debian/control (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=723129
; they chose to go to a new upstream version at the same time, but this
isn't necessary to fix this bug).

The existing broken powerpc binary will need to be removed after doing
this.

[Bug 1114673] Re: mount.cifs occasionally causes GPF error/kernel panic when mounting at boot [crypto_larval_kill+0x2b/0x90]

2013-09-24 Thread Mikael Hjelm
This bug is not confined to cifs mounts in fstab.
I can get a kernel crash if i mount it manually but too soon after boot. I have
a rather fast boot since i am running on an ssd and lubuntu so i think there
might be some timing. issue, either network isn't properly up or some other
process is doing something fishy.
To me it also sometimes occur if the connection to the smaba server is
interrupted somehow. We had a maintenance of the VPN tunnel between two sites
and that killed the mounts with fatal results.

  symlink(../usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Berlin,
/etc/.localtime4e49606a750b8c2c) = -1 EROFS (Read-only file system)

Which means that timedated is trying, entirely sensibly, to atomically
overwrite the /etc/localtime symlink with the new timezone. This doesn't
work with our ro-/etc scheme that we have on our device images. There
will be a similar problem with updating /etc/timezone atomically too,
but that's a file instead of a symlink.

The rough workaround that we have in mind (suggested by cjwatson,
thanks) is to create a writable directory and make /etc/localtime
/etc/timezone /etc/adjtime be symlinks to files/symlinks as appropriate
inside there, which are themselves atomically updated. Do this for the
fallback case (EROFS) only.

It does mean that we'll need to play whack-a-mole with anything else
which thinks it can update these, sadly. I wonder if it'd be better to
revisit making the whole of /etc writable on our images and deal with
the conffile issues another way.

[Bug 1227783] Re: Black backround image -CrossFadeImage does not set the sourceSize for the images

2013-09-24 Thread Tim Peeters
ok if I replace in the eabove the IMG_7001.jpg and IMG_7003.jpg with two
10.000*10.000 images (single color, created in GIMP), then the image
stays black.

[Bug 1227838] Re: gthumb doesn't display thumbnails correctly on UG 13.10 + Gnome 3.10

2013-09-24 Thread Tim
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/[Project_Name]. If you have done
so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we
can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in
advance.
