[Bug 1242907] Re: The Shutdown button does not work

2013-10-29 Thread Dāniels Brūvers
This bug might have something to do with Cairo Dock. I have to users on
my computer: one with and one without Cairo Dock. The one without Cairo
Dock set to run at startup doesn't have this problem. The Shutdown

Cairo Dock has this problem.

The BT device ID was missing in the driver. After recompiling the ath3k

Can this patch be rolled out with the next saucy kernel update or do I
have to wait till trusty thar?

Is there anything we could do here to get this fixed for at least Firefox 26

Would not track for a release given how old the bug is as we will not
block a release on this. Although, a low risk uplift can be nominated
once a patch is found.

Also CCing a few folks who may be able to help here.

[Bug 1215826] Re: Lost ability to remap Caps Lock to Ctrl

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

After the last update (today) I am no longer able to remap Caps Lock to
Ctrl. I tried to set XKBOPTIONS in /etc/default/keyboard but that only
seems to work for a few brief seconds. The same happens if I invoke
setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps on the console. It works for a few
seconds, then Caps Lock reverts to its Caps Lock-y behavior.

[Bug 1224575] Re: gnome-control-center keyboard no longer has way to modify caps lock key behavior

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

Up until Raring, it was trivial to use the gnome-control-center to modify
caps lock key behavior.
In earlier versions you could do the following:
   - Launch System Settings
   - Click on Keyboard Layout
   - Click on Options
   - These options allow one to modify Caps Lock Key behavior (for example swap
it with ESC)

In newer versions of Saucy I try to do the following:
    - Launch System Settings
    - Click on Keyboard
    - Click on Layout Settings
    - Cannot find a location similar to these older options

These older 'Keyboard Layout Options' made it very easy to do things
like swaping Caps Lock for ESC which make vim users much happier.

  WORKAROUND
  ==
  Use gnome-tweak-tool

[Bug 1221403] Re: Pressing Caps Lock toggles LED even when mapped to another key

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

I have the the Caps Lock and Esc keys swapped; that is, pressing Caps
Lock generates an Esc keycode and vice versa. This was done using the
options in the keyboard settings, which seem to have disappeared
  recently.

With this setup, pressing either the Esc and Caps Lock keys will toggle
the Caps Lock LED. As a result the LED does not accurately reflect the
state of the caps lock function. My expectation is that only the key
which toggles the caps lock function (in this case Esc) should toggle
the LED, and that the state of the LED should always accurately reflect
the state of the caps lock function.

[Bug 1245901] [NEW] Trusty Legal link failure

2013-10-29 Thread Martin Dixon
Public bug reported:

cross reference Question #238281 in trusty-build-html footer in unity-
introduction.page legal link (see Legal for details) fails (both the
others work) is this reasonable?

the common footer to all pages contains a link to Legal which returns
File not found

The Google Ubuntu Doc Review lists legal.html as No Changes expected for
14.04

I would expect it to point at https://help.ubuntu.com/legal.html

the other two footer links work

Chroots are meant to be a single arch. Using debootstrap already implies
more advanced knowledge. If you create an amd64 chroot and you want it
to be multiarch, use the command I gave above.

[Bug 1228207] Re: [FFe] indicator-keyboard not working under greeter

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

  Rationale:

This cycle we introduced a new keyboard indicator which runs in the
session, but does not currently run in unity-greeter without the
  proposed bug fix.

The reason we should be using the new indicator is because the method of
storing the user's keyboard layouts has been changed this cycle, and the
new indicator already reads those settings from their proper location.
Continued use of the old indicator would require the user to maintain
  two separate keyboard layout lists.

[Bug 1244619]

2013-10-29 Thread Cyrille37
(In reply to fermulator from comment #32)
So to clarify, what is the expected fix here?

For users that have TB24.0, and downgraded to lightning 2.6.0, say on Ubuntu
 12.04 LTS,
what is the going forward path to remove ourselves from this workaround
 state?

On Linux Ubuntu 12.04 there is Thunderbird 24.0.
So I've desactivate Lightning 2.6.1 and installed 2.6 from this page:
https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/lightning/versions/?page=1#version-2.6

And desactivated too the thunderbird automatic module update ...

[Bug 1227937] Re: lxc-start is unconfined but has a profile defined

2013-10-29 Thread Serge Hallyn
I had been considering splitting the lxc apparmor profile loading to its
own upstart job so it would happen sooner, but that will only make the
container start weirdly due to lxc-net not having started. What we need
is a way for lxc-start to know that it shouldn't run yet.

I propose we add a 'lxc.wait_on_file = /run/lxc/ready' to the container
config format. We add that entry to the /etc/lxc/lxc.conf in ubuntu,
and have /etc/init/lxc.conf create /run/lxc/ready when all is set. lxc-
start will simply wait until the condition is satisfied to actually
start the container (logging a message that it is doing so), rather than
failing to start.

[Bug 1244619]

2013-10-29 Thread fermulator
(In reply to Cyrille from comment #38)
(In reply to fermulator from comment #32)
So to clarify, what is the expected fix here?

For users that have TB24.0, and downgraded to lightning 2.6.0, say on Ubuntu
  12.04 LTS,
what is the going forward path to remove ourselves from this workaround
  state?

On Linux Ubuntu 12.04 there is Thunderbird 24.0.
So I've desactivate Lightning 2.6.1 and installed 2.6 from this page:
 https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/lightning/versions/
 ?page=1#version-2.6

And desactivated too the thunderbird automatic module update ...

That isn't a going forward path. Think -- when TB 25.0 is released, or
when lightning 2.6.2 is released...

How do users automatically get fixed onto the auto-updates train again?
Remember that not all users are computer gurus here ... I have many clients who
don't know how to manage this

[Bug 1242572] Re: Ubiquity sets Alt+Shift shortcut for layout switching, while installed system uses Super+Space

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

Recently I installed Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu GNOME 13.10.
I use two keyboard layouts - English and Russian.
So I select them on the corresponding screen of ubiquity setup wizard.

It quietly set the keyboard switching shortcut to Alt+Shift and wrote this
setting to /etc/default/keyboard:
  # ...
  XKBMODEL=pc105
  XKBLAYOUT=us,ru
  XKBVARIANT=,
  XKBOPTIONS=grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll

[Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

- New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
- Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

+ Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead of
ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts
this workaround helps only with one of them.

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-29 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
   Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
   Alt/Win key behavior
   Caps Lock key behavior
   Compose key position
   Ctrl key position
   Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
   Key(s) to change layout
   Key to choose 3rd level
   Key to choose 5th level
   Miscellaneous compatibility options
   Numeric keypad delete key behavior
   Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
  Alt+Caps Lock
  Alt+Ctrl
  Alt+Shift
  Alt+Space
  Any Win key (while pressed)
  Both Alt keys together
  Both Ctrl keys together
  Both Shift keys together
  Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
  Ctrl+Shift
  Left Alt
  Left Alt+Left Shift
  Left Alt (while pressed)
  Left Ctrl
  Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
  Left Shift
  Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
  Left Win (while pressed)
  Menu
  Right Alt
  Rigth Alt (while pressed)
  Right Ctrl
  Right Ctrl+Right Shift
  Right Ctrl (while pressed)
  Right Shift
  Right Win
  Right Win (while pressed)
  Scroll Lock
  Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional.
For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed
in 13.10. But they are of course missed.
What we have now in 13.10 (ppa:attente/1218322 or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not
have other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
which does not work correctly in 13.10:

I installed the image files and tested and it runs.

However, as before I could not install all: specifically the tools file gave a
problem.
Not sure if it matters for you or not, so
I copy the last part of the messages, so you can see it seems to be a
dependency error.

When I suspend my system and then wake it, the Wifi and Sound no longer
work until after the next time the system is shutdown or restarted. I
have Pulseaudio. The Wifi card uses the ath9k driver.

This issue was noticed after a fresh install before any additional

[Bug 1245903] [NEW] Online Accounts applications need a couple of more D-Bus interfaces

2013-10-29 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Public bug reported:

In order to get notified of account changes (such as an account being enabled),
applications using online accounts need to be able to *receive* messages from
the com.google.code.AccountsSSO.Accounts interface.
Also, to invoke the trusted helper and obtain access to a specific account,
applications need to talk to the com.canonical.OnlineAccountsUi interface.

Summing up, here's what I've added to my click application profile, and
verified that it works:

  dbus (receive, send)
   bus=session
   interface=com.canonical.OnlineAccountsUi,
  dbus (receive)
   bus=session
   interface=com.google.code.AccountsSSO.Accounts,

The above should be added to the accounts profile.

As this is a pretty drastic change with potential of breaking MANY people, I'm
waiting for quite a few people letting me know the PPA in #39 has fixed the
issue before I push on getting this into the mainstream codebase.

Also when testing please let me know which series you tested against
(Precise, q,r,s,t ...).

[Bug 1245730] Re: just installed ubuntu and found this.

2013-10-29 Thread Quinn Balazs
The Cinnamon Project is not tracked in Launchpad, the preferred method
of reporting a bug against the project as a whole, is to file one here:
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues. There are known issues
with Cinnamon and Unity not working well together in 13.10. If this
issue is fixed in the Ubuntu package, file this on Cinnamon's tracker,
and give us a link to the bug. If this is still happening in the Ubuntu
package, file against the Cinnamon package in Ubuntu, and link us the
upstream report.

Before filing anything against Cinnamon, please attach /var/log/syslog
to this report. It would also be helpful if you could tell us what the
text of the X error that you experienced was, as that will make it
easier to tell if we are targeting Cinnamon or X in this issue.

Thanks,

Quinn Balazs

[Bug 1089115] Re: updated cups-pdf generates only a one page blank pdf

2013-10-29 Thread niknah
I'm sure it worked at one point for me. Because I have pdf files in the
folder that I had set up. Doesn't work anymore.

No errors in error log.

* Sometimes prints just a blank page called cups-pdf_log.pdf
* Sometimes prints a pdf that I can't open.
* Sometimes does nothing all.

2013-10-29 Thread Alexander Heuer
Same problem here on an X220t. Added to that I can't get *any* custom
shortcuts to work. As a simple example I tried binding xterm to either
the F-keys, other normal key combinations or the special rotation keys
on the X220t. Not a single one worked.

[Bug 1245906] Re: dont know

2013-10-29 Thread Quinn Balazs
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
