[Bug 1333512] Re: Failing to import module adds noise to the logging stream

2014-06-24 Thread Christopher Lee
** Description changed:

- When there is a failure to import a module this failure is logged but
- also means that everything else will be logged to stdout from that point
- on.
+ When failing to import a module the gi.repository import.py module logs an
error with `logging.error(..)` causing a logging handler to be added.
+ This basically breaks the ability to configure the logging as it happens so
early (i.e. at the import stage before an authors code is executed).

- The Issue:
- When failing to import a module the gi.repository import module adds a
handler, that sends output to stdout, to the root logger. This means that _any_
logging after the failed import will be sent to stdout.
+ To reproduce/Example:

- To reproduce/test:
+ Run this script: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7698632/

- Run the python script found here: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/7693434/
+ Expected outcome:
+ No output to stdout or stderr and the text log message in the file
/tmp/example.log

- Expected output: Nothing. No logging and no text etc.
+ Actual outcome:
+ No log file, and this text output to stderr:
+ ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for rubbish
+ ERROR:root:log message

- Actual Output:
- ERROR:root:Could not find any typelib for rubbish
- INFO:something-not-root:You shouldn't see this
-
- Note that you can see the logged output for something-not-root even
- though it's logging level is set to INFO (which isn't normally shown).

[Bug 1333206] Re: Unable to print in photo paper using HP Deskjet 916c

Hi Alberto,

Can you try installing latest hplip 3.14.6 ? Please download the file
hplip-3.14.6.run from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-
web/gethplip.html. To install it run command sh hplip-3.14.6.run in
terminal.

Next, run command hp-setup -r in terminal to delete the existing
print queue for HP Deskjet 916c.

After that run command hp-setup to configure the new print queue for
this device and try to print on photo paper.

Let us know if the issue is still reproducible.

Thanks Regards,

[Bug 1331452] Re: Please backport current CVEs for Precise LTS openssl098

2014-06-24 Thread Seth Arnold
It appears one of the patches added some new errors to the build logs:

...
./testssl: 128: [: SSLv3: unexpected operator
Testing AES256-SHA
Available compression methods:
  1: zlib compression
TLSv1, cipher TLSv1/SSLv3 AES256-SHA, 1024 bit RSA
1 handshakes of 256 bytes done
./testssl: 128: [: SSLv3: unexpected operator
...

Thankfully the fix was simple (change == to = in
debian/patches/CVE-2013-0169.patch for testssl), and once fixed didn't
itself indicate any new errors.

However now I'm at a loss how to test this package; my first shot, using
LD_PRELOAD=/path/to/libssl.so.0.9.8 openssl didn't actually work. How
did you test it and is there something I can do to at least smoke-test
it?

Thanks

[Bug 1333597] Re: I don't know what is going on

2014-06-24 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks

Could someone else confirm?

[Bug 1333538] [NEW] Need to enter password twice to login

Public bug reported:

On my Arch Linux system, I need to enter my password twice before I can

[Bug 1328217] Re: space bar should allow to easily move around the document without using scrollbars

2014-06-24 Thread jazzynico
The Middle Mouse Button Drag is IMHO the easiest method with Inkscape
0.48.4, but according to http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html
/View-Pan.html you can also activate Space Bar+Left Mouse Drag thanks
to an option in the Inkscape preferences, but it prevents using the
Space Bar to toggle between tools (the manual also gives some other
useful shortcuts)

Note that Space Bar + Move works in the next major revision (0.91,
currently under development), and that the tools toggle issue is fixed
(see Bug #383871 Let space switch to selector tool even when used for
panning).

Hi, While I did a new install I did not take up any of the options,(no
speaker) but after install I did try a few apps but I tested sound after
each and then removed it before trying the next. There was no sound at
any time and no sound options were auto/added.
Note I have kept banshee, sound converter, Arister Transcoder, Youtube,
VLC and Pulse audio volume control.
The Pulse Audio Volume Control though does show a sound activated moving
graphic in the horizontal volume bar, but still no actual sound/audio
anywhere in the speaker.
Strange how 12,04 worked for me on all of my same computers with a
little fiddling but no success with the 14.04.
Have you altered anything yet?. Feel free to do anything as I can easily
reinstall the 14.04 if it goes pear shaped in the problem computer but
please be carefull not to alter my EMAIL computer.
I'm not a computer expert but if you think I can do anything let me
know and I will try.
Hope someone can help. Thanks Rod

Re: [Bug 1226962] Re: Hotkeys not functional in non-latin keyboard layout in 13.10 and 14.04

2014-06-24 Thread yh1000
This helped me in a couple of installations:

Confirm Ubuntu 14.04 with latest updates.

This helps me:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/java-non-latin-shortcuts
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
and then restart unity-settings-daemon

On Tue, Jun 24, 2014 at 8:03 AM, defis 1226...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

When I use English keyboard layout I can use all the shortcuts (except
some that use the Alt key, but that's a Linux problem. For example Alt
+ (Middle) MClick (or button 3)). But When I switch to Greek, I can use
only the numeric shortcut (Ctlr + 1 for example).

 Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when
 selected non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works
 perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
   layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

   Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
 shortcuts problems:
   1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME,
Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or
 clean installed
   2. What keyboard layout do you have
   3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
   4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME
Shell, GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback
 (Compiz)
   5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories,
PPA, non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
   may be faster.

For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can

linux-image-3.13.0-29-generic kernel on the server, kvm guests (Windows Server
2008R2, Ubuntu 14.04 Server, Gentoo) show poor performance ~3-4 hours after
system boot. In some of the guests, there are messages about cpu soft lockups.
This coincides with high load reported by kvm/libvirt for the guests.
The problem does not appear when booting the server with mainline kernel
linux-image-3.15.1-031501-generic from Ubuntu kernel PPA.

[Bug 1333558] [NEW] qmail ANY query bugs

2014-06-24 Thread Georg Sluyterman
Public bug reported:

When qmail tries to deliver emails to a domain that is DNSSEC-enabled
the response it gets is often way larger than 512 Byte (2-5k is often
experienced) since it queries for ANY instead of A, and MX. The
result is that the delivery of mails to those domains can not be
performed and the queue just increases.

I got the error deferral: CNAME_lookup_failed_temporarily._(#4.4.3)/
in the log file.

Workaround: apt-get install dnscache-run

This installs the DNS recurser dnscache and automaticly changes
/etc/resolv.conf to 127.0.0.1.
(as a side notice i first tried to install the DNS recurser Unbound, but even
though I disabled DNSSEC validation it still replied with the relevant
ressource records, when queried for 'ANY', and thus I achieved nothing.).

The problem and suggestions on how to fix it is further discussed here (I found
it during a web search):
https://fanf.livejournal.com/10.html

There are probably other suggestions online on how to fix it. I think
some patch should be applied, since the web is increasingly moving to
DNSSEC. I found some stats that 20-30% of .nl domains are DNSSEC-
enabled. That probably goes for some other TLD's too.

[Bug 1327772] Re: [Intel DH57JG] Early boot crash/reboot without 'nomodeset'

2014-06-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mosteo, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the
very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.16-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

commit 07ee1bcb0c3c17032901b6813ab2a13439061495
Author: Valeriy Ponomaryov vponomar...@mirantis.com
Date: Wed Jun 18 05:18:36 2014 -0400

Code cleanup: use oslo's to_slug() instead of slugify()

The bash completion code is the sole user of the slugify() function
in utils, which is substantially similar to to_slug() provided in
strutils from oslo. Remove slugify() and use to_slug() instead.

[Bug 1333565] [NEW] Phone's system settings update page is ugly

2014-06-24 Thread Michael Zanetti
Public bug reported:

The updates page in system settings seems quite ugly/undesigned to me.

* The view stops overshooting sometimes. Not sure how to trigger this
state, but flicking the list of updates up/down makes it stop
overshooting at some point. Also I just managed to make it stop being
scrollable at all.

* While everywhere else on the phone (at least everywhere else in
systemsettings), separators between list entries reach from left to
right, in here there's a spacing to the edges. There's also a spacing to
left and right in the new dialer/contacts app, however, that one is
different to the one in here too, so this still seems arbitrary.

* Once updates are done, the update all button disappears, and leaves an
empty space behind. That empty space clips the list items below.

* Once the update all button is invisible, it is still clickable though.
Tap around in the empty area and at some point all the list items will
grow and show some D-Bus error message in the subtitle.

* Items in the list change their hight to their liking, making the whole
list jump up/down. If items really need to change their size at runtime
(imho we should try to avoid that), it should be handled with a smooth
animation.

[Bug 1327075] Re: 'power-management/rtc' job failed randomly

2014-06-24 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
With some more testing, I found this was somehow caused by using fwts to
do hibernate test

If hibernate was triggered before this rtc test, the latter will fail.
We used to have the hibernate key test before this rtc test, which will trigger
hibernate in the early stage (see bug 1330399), therefore causing this issue.

In conclusion, this should not happen again in checkbox-cli since the fix has
been implemented.
But for fwts itself, there seems to have a bug, I will open a report for it.
