[Bug 1581048] [NEW] apache root 0day
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Marc Deslauriers (mdeslaur): there is an apache zero day out there, I have been trying to report for some time. may affect upstream debian code also. Nasa got hit, dreamhost got hit, potentially others also. what happens is the attacker gains root or escalation priviledges somehow and gets to muck up the htaccess file. as a result the server refuses to load the config and throws 500 in peoples faces instead. Note that I used geany and leafpad when editing. there is no way to drop sequences of line numbers into this file by blind accident. This however did occur. It is possible also to override file permissions ie access permissions in ways to break wordpress setups. There is no easy fix for this once it occurs and very upsetting to WP users. As a result I have dropped it. Im not sure what causes the zero-day. grsec patches are used but dated and will not build for recent kernels, rather break them. ** Affects: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- apache root 0day https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581048 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1587686] Re: ZFS: Running ztest repeatedly for long periods of time eventually results in "zdb: can't open 'ztest': No such file or directory"
Interestingly this fixes the issue in 4.4.0-23-generic but not 4.4.0-23-lowlatency, and it appears my local builds of master-next on both 4.4.0-24-generic and 4.4.0-24-lowlatency fail still. perhaps something in the 4.4.10 sublevel patches changed something. I've also merged 4.4.11 and 4.4.12 into master-next for my local build to test against those and so far my generic build hasn't failed but on master- next plus 4.4.11 merged it was failing. something is fishy and I'm not sure where, but there's multiple bug reports upstream regarding ztest and some patches in master - but this truncated cache file patch should have been in 0.6.5-release anyways. [Bug 1588915] [NEW] network dependent services starting before network is up
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (server) Release:16.04 systemd: Installed: 229-4ubuntu6 Candidate: 229-4ubuntu6 Version table: *** 229-4ubuntu6 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 229-4ubuntu4 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages This issue is more about systemd integration then an issue with systemd package itself. The general problem is the distinction between the network being configured and the network being up and what that means for services that depend on the network. upstream systemd has network.target (network is configured) and network- online.target (network is up), however xenial server (dunno about desktop) doesn't seem to use network-online.target. The result of which is, as soon as the network is configured both network.target and network-online.target are considered complete. At which point services dependent on either of those will get started. However this can lead to problems if the services in question are actually dependent on the network (ie dns lookups) when they are starting up. Here's an example of what I mean. If you install openntpd and add the -s option there is a race on boot if it will or wont be able to do the initial sync. Jun 02 16:58:02 xenial64 systemd[1]: Reached target Network. I believe this issue is only going to effect physical servers with static ips. vm's interfaces will instantly have link when they are brought up and dhcp, the interface will already be up or else they wouldn't have been able to get an ip. thanks jim ** Affects: openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1588915 Title: network dependent services starting before network is up To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvpn/+bug/1588915/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1588913] [NEW] SRU: New upstream release (3.18.3)
Public bug reported: [Description] Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was released with gnome-documents version 3.18.2. GNOME has released a bugfix update for the stable 3.18 series: 3.18.3. [Test cases] Here are the three things it fixes: 1. Unbreak going back from preview when launched from search provider https://bugzilla.gnome.org/760124 a. Download a .pdf to ~/Documents or ~/Downloads b. Wait a few moments for tracker to index the file (tracker is enabled by default so this should happen automatically) c. From GNOME Shell, open the Activities Overview and search for the pdf you downloaded. d. Click the result with the Documents logo to the left of it (the result with the File Browser icon next to it will open in Evince instead which is not what we want here). e. Once Documents has opened, click the back button in the top left of the toolbar. f. The bug is that it doesn't lead you back to the Documents main screen. 2. Disable Print menu item when unsupported (Bastien Nocera) https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=758445 a. The upstream bug only notes CBR and CBZ as being affected. Note that those files do not show up in GNOME Documents but show up in GNOME Books and this SRU hides Books by default (LP: #1584522). b. Download a .cbz. I suggest http://www.bitcartel.com/downloads/martinlutherking.cbz to ~/Documents or ~/Downloads c. Run gnome-books (from a terminal or Alt+F2) d. Open the martinlutherking document. e. In the top right corner, click the menu drop down button. f. The bug is that the Print button is shown as active (able to be clicked) but doesn't do anything when you click it. The bug fix is that the button is shown greyed out since the document can't be printed by GNOME Books. 3. Try not to open PDFs in GIMP https://bugzilla.gnome.org/758529 I was unable to reproduce this bug. [Regression potential] The only fix I might be concerned about is #3 because I could not reproduce the original bug easily. [Bug 1588050] Re: [MIR] libertine
I am concerned about the use of the libertine-team as the designated subscriber for this because of the granularity of this team; it appears to currently be a reasonably-sized team, but it also seems this is a one-off project team which I could imagine would have its membership reduced later as the project matures and engineering resources are allocated elsewhere. It's certainly appropriate for the libertine-team to follow the bugs for this project, but with a bug subscriber we also want to be able to answer the question, "organizationally, who is responsible for problems in this package long term if we need to escalate?" For that it is usually better to use a smaller number of teams that have a fairly stable mapping to the Canonical org chart, which I'm not sure is true for this team. This is an existing problem with many of the client stack packages in main, so I don't consider this a blocker for libertine right now (and it's quite urgent that we get libertine into main to unblock image builds). Will add libertine-team to our list of known teams for now, but I think we want to revisit this later as part of a review of the client stack ownership generally. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1588050 Title: [MIR] libertine To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libertine/+bug/1588050/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1588899] [NEW] Xorg crash with slack when receiving too many emojis
Public bug reported: The following has been reported to slack via their (private) ticketing system. Using slack ("deb https://packagecloud.io/slacktechnologies/slack/debian/ jessie main") and with preferences set to "Message Display => Emoji Style => None: plain text only", a numerous quantity of emojis in a single message sent will crash the system and set you back to the session login screen. This only happens with official "slack" package. "scudcloud" is not / does not seem affected. Definition of "numerous": 399 ":rooster:" emojis sent in a single message is enough to crash the system. To reproduce: install slack via apt above, get someone to punk you with a single line of as many emojis as possible. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
