[Bug 1637801] [NEW] Incorrect Russian translation of "apt list --upgradeabe" results

2016-10-29 Thread Andrei Borzenkov
Public bug reported:

bor@bor-Latitude-E5450:~$ apt list --upgradeable
Вывод списка… Готово
build/неизвестно 20161025 all [может быть обновлён до: 20151105]

In Russian this means "version 20161025 can be upgraded TO version
20151105)

While original English says exactly opposite:

bor@bor-Latitude-E5450:~$ LC_ALL=C LANG=C apt list --upgradeable
Listing... Done
build/unknown 20161025 all [upgradable from: 20151105]

Literal translation (that does not require serious phrase change) would
probably be

"может быть обновлен с"

although it sounds also artificial, as in Russian subject is package
that is being updated (currently installed), not new version.

[Bug 1637794] [NEW] Keyboard and mouse stops working randomly

2016-10-29 Thread Tan Kah Ping
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.10
Release:16.10

xinput:
  Installed: 1.6.2-1
  Candidate: 1.6.2-1
  Version table:
 *** 1.6.2-1 500

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Keyboard and mouse is supposed to just work.

With Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 (clean install) keyboard and mouse randomly
stops working. It doesn't appear to be a system freeze as anything
that's running appears to still be working. Ubuntu just fails to receive
any keyboard and mouse input. The only 'fix' is to reset the PC. As far
as I can tell, there's no pattern to it. I could be browsing the web and
it just suddenly stops working, or it could be idle for a while and I
can't get the monitor to wake up from sleep.

Sometimes I could use the system for days without incident, and
sometimes it just keeps on 'freezing' within minutes after a reset.
Alt+SysReq+reisub doesn't work at all.

[Bug 1637781] [NEW] Upgrade from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS fails

2016-10-29 Thread LaunchpadLoginDefectReport
Public bug reported:

Straightforward upgrade. 14.04LTS desktop system (x86-64) was in a valid
state, with updating working and all updates applied. Answered "Yes" to
the prompt to upgrade to 16.04 LTS. Let that run. Failed with dialog
box "Could not calculate the upgrade", with no additional useful
information.

Looking at the logs shows a huge number of "Broken" packages, many of
which are internal to Ubuntu, so that's not helpful.

Did the "ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core" thing to create this
bug report, so the detailed logs should be attached.

(There's a vast amount of contradictory advice on line at "askubuntu"
about this, with no good, non-drastic answers. This should Just Work.)

[Bug 1168742] Re: [udev] Disks are not unmounted when physical eject button is used

2016-10-29 Thread Phil Wright
@Peter Bennett

Ok, I finally managed to test this with CDs and worked out the problem.
This was a fault in my shell script.

The test line in the script should be 'if [ "$n" -ne '0' ];then umount
/dev/sr0;fi'. Note the command should have been 'umount' not 'eject'.

Complete solution taking the above into account:

sudo apt-get install dvd+rw-tools
echo 'KERNEL=="sr0", ACTION=="change", RUN+="/usr/local/bin/sr0_change.sh"' |
sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/61-sr0-change.rules
cat << 'EOF' | sudo tee /usr/local/bin/sr0_change.sh
#!/bin/sh
dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0 > /dev/null
n=$?
if [ "$n" -ne '0' ];then umount /dev/sr0;fi
EOF

sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/sr0_change.sh
sudo reboot

It seems it is a problem with boost and the rest.
Maybe an upgrade to version 2.6 will fix the issues?

[Bug 1626268] Re: install crash on thinkpad yoga with default bios settings with message: The 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/

2016-10-29 Thread Sébastien Barbieri
Dear Phillip,

you are totally right, and I fixed the explanation I got while trying to
install already helped me to find out that I had to change a setting in my bios
prior to install.
That's exactly what I did. And everythign works well.

The problem here is related to the Modal that is attached in the
screenshot of the second message that displays a close button which
doesn't work.

So it's a pure GUI design problem. The code behind the close button
doesn't work and doesn't close the modal.

And that's why I say install crash. The install doesn't work, it shoudl
at least handle properly all the error case including the one when
someone as EFI mode enabled and get the modal I got.

But of course it's not a critical bug :-) just a user interface that
fail to achieve his purpose.

[Bug 1637773] [NEW] update replaced custom setting in sudoers, despite showing "no changes"

2016-10-29 Thread tsg1zzn
Public bug reported:

I have Ubuntu Studio 14.04. I used software updater to update. I then
got a box asking me to replace /etc/sudoers. There was an expandable
called "changes", which I clicked on. This revealed an _empty_ text
area.

Just in case, I backed up my sudoers file. Then I went ahead and allowed
the replace of this file.

Now it turns out there were changes. My custom setting was removed:
Defaultstimestamp_timeout=0

Also, the path line was updated with an added /snap/bin.

It shouldn't show no changes when there are changes. I'm not sure if
this is a problem with the sudo package or the updater.

[Bug 1637770] [NEW] package mysql-common 5.7.16-0ubuntu0.16.10.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2016-10-29 Thread Art Pina
Public bug reported:

I may have messed up the setuid bits in /usr.
I wasn't paying attention when I did a chmod -R as root. I thought I fixed them
all because "Software Center" and "MySQL" were working fine again, after I
compared all files with "rws" with my Ubuntu 16.04 system and updated the 16.10
system with that permission. Now that, "Software Center" doesn't install with
Polkit and I got this error, I assume it's related to file ownership or setuid.

Maybe this isn't a bug per se, but it would be nice to get some pointer
from the error message for users who tend to be oblivious like me when
doing "User" stuff v. "Developer" stuff (well - I'm oblivious then too,
at times. :->)

How to fix:

In /lib/systemd/system/nbd@.service replace:

[Unit]
Description=NBD client connection for %i
...
[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=//sbin/nbd-client %i

by:

[Unit]
Description=NBD client connection for nbd%i
...
[Service]
Type=forking
ExecStart=//sbin/nbd-client nbd%i

Note:

When given no other parameters, nbd-client expects a device name (e.g.
nbd0) as command-line parameter, and searches /etc/nbdtab for that
device.

I think they are the same. The bug manifests itself when using xorg, but
the root cause is the kernel null pointer dereference.

2016-10-29 Thread Paulo Matias
Maybe we should mark it as confirmed now that Yuri bisected the kernel
in the other bug?

However I still think we should just put some test to check whether the
pointer is NULL, we already have the stacktrace. Maybe I can try to
patch it out when I get some spare time.

[Bug 1363670] Re: 8480dn

2016-10-29 Thread xtsbdu3reyrbrmroezob
the driver appears to be corrupting the printer in some way. brother has
the same problem even in their windows drivers, at least in earlier
versions. the only "fix" is to break up every print job into 1-page
documents, send 1 page, let it print, reboot the printer, delete the
printer, re-add the printer, send the next page, etc... until you finish
printing. this is really poorly designed. may only affect the USB
printing. brother says "direct printing" works just fine. i take that to
mean networked printing over port 9100 / jetdirect works fine. its the
USB printing thats the issue

[Bug 1636616] Re: GNOME Shell browser plugin is crashy

2016-10-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Also affects: webkit2gtk (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: webkit2gtk (Ubuntu Trusty)
   Status: New => Invalid

** Description changed:

- errors.ubuntu.com title: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
-
gnu/webkit2gtk-4.0/WebKitPluginProcess:11:WebKit::NPN_InvokeDefault:on_shell_signal:ffi_call_unix64:ffi_call:g_cclosure_marshal_generic
+ Impact
+ ==
+ The GNOME Shell browser plugin is unstable when Epiphany (the GNOME Web
browser app) access https://extensions.gnome.org/

  Steps to Reproduce
  ==

  - From Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS or 16.10, install epiphany-browser
  - Browse to https://extensions.gnome.org/
  - Click around. Eventually, the gnome-shell plugin will crash. This might be
triggered by visiting https://extensions.gnome.org/local/
  - You can tell it crashed because /var/crash/ will get a file that looks
something like
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_webkit2gtk-4.0_WebKitPluginProcess.1000.crash

  Also, the website may display this message:

  "We cannot detect a running copy of GNOME on this system, so some parts
  of the interface may be disabled. See our troubleshooting entry for more
  information."

  - Reloading the page seems to work.

+ Regression Potential
+
+ Minimal. This one-line change was applied to GNOME Shell 3.18+'s git branches.
+
  Other Notes
  ===
- I was able to duplicate this with both webkit2gtk 2.14.0-1 and webkit2gtk
2.14.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu GNOME 16.10.
-
- I was also able to duplicate on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with webkit2gtk
- 2.10.9-1ubuntu1. gnome-shell versions in my tests range from 3.18 to
- 3.22.
-
- This will be "fixed" when gnome-shell removes its browser plugin.
- The GNOME Software 3.22 app already has partial support for GNOME Shell
extensions. See the attached GNOME bug.
+ errors.ubuntu.com title:

webkit2gtk. This problem was most recently seen with package version
2.14.1-0ubuntu1, the problem page at

Also, I have no issues you mentioned with either Intel,
Qualcomm/Atheros, or Broadcom WiFi chipsets (802.11g, 802.11n, and
802.11ac) with 16.04 via Network Manager. Hence, the issues you have are
specific to your environment and/or hardware.

least related to this bug. That bug more closely matches the issue I am
experiencing. Dance mat detected when connected, but input not
registered. I posted a more detailed comment there.

[Bug 1576977] Re: Lots of GEGL-gegl-operation.c-WARNING on starting gimp

2016-10-29 Thread GreenLeaf
I get the same list of warnings if I run GIMP from the terminal. GIMP
does work OK with JEPGs. However it will not load CR2 raw files via
UFRaw plugin gives a “Opening 'file location & name' failed: Procedure
'file-ufraw-load' returned no return values” error . Also the stand
alone UFRaw will not load CR2 files. Will these issues be related?

[Bug 1516402] Re: nvidia-304 304.128-0ubuntu0.0.1: nvidia-304 kernel module failed to build

2016-10-29 Thread Mario Caves
The errors as reported in #4 are now happening in Ubuntu 16.10, using
kernel 4.8.0-26-generic on an amd64 system.

This is preventing me from being able to login to the desktop.
I need the nvidia 304 drivers as they're required for my GT 6 series graphics
cards.

[Bug 1576815] Re: No wireless access for BCM 43162 [14e4:43ae] rev 02

2016-10-29 Thread chobot
I also solved the lack of drivers for BCM 43162 [14e4:43ae] rev 02. by
replacing WiFi card with Intel Dual band Wireless-AC 7260 7260NGW
Bluetooth BT4.0 NGFF 867Mbps. This card works fine in Ubuntu GNOME
16.04. If you plan to change the card too, be careful - some
manufacturers block hardware changes on BIOS level... More information
can be found at https://www.bios-mods.com/

[Bug 1637753] Re: Bad interaction between pulseaudio and bluetooth

2016-10-29 Thread Paul Abrahams
A couple of other things: First, at one point I did have the headphones
working, but I haven't been able to get them working again. Second, the
expected behavior: Using the Phonon settings, I should be able to switch
easily between the built-in speakers and the headphones, or even between
two different sets of headphones as long as they are paired to the
laptop.

[Bug 1637753] [NEW] Bad interaction between pulseaudio and bluetooth

2016-10-29 Thread Paul Abrahams
Public bug reported:

I'm running Kubuntu 14.04. I am trying to use my headphones to listen to
music from my laptop. The headphones are correctly paired, and I get a
message to that effect, but I can't switch the audio output to bluetooth
-- it just isn't listed in the Phonon settings of System Settings, nor
does it show up in pavucontrol. There have been many reports of
difficulty in using bluetooth with pulseaudio in addition to this,
particularly for Kubuntu 14.04.
