[Bug 1729674] Re: TB16 dock ethernet corrupts data with hw checksum silently failing

2017-11-12 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Tried two other r8152 devices,
- r8152 <-> USB-C <-> Host system. No checksum issue.
- r8152 <-> Genesys Logic Hub <-> USB-C <-> Host system. No checksum issue.

So it's more likely to be a ASMedia issue.

[Bug 1724796] Re: Picture is heavily malformed

2017-11-12 Thread Dario
I turned on external PPA because it wasn't working. The problem is simple,
image is broken until Xorg is loaded (either by choosing Xorg in GDM, or
disabling Wayland for GDM). Xorg does something that fixes the picture in
Wayland (and thus in GDM if GDM is running with Wayland enabled).
Some users on irc suggested that this is kernel bug, but I'm not familiar
enough with how things work to confirm/test that. I just know that loading Xorg
(either as session or GDM) fixes the problem for both sessions.

Shiva/Madhu,

Can you please suggest what can be done from libvirt side about VF devspec
paths ?
We currently don't have implementation for VF devspec path or loc in
virt-aa-helper code.
Does it cause any security issues when we add those in virt-aa-helper code ?
What are the other alternative way we can fix this ?

[Bug 1731838] [NEW] sane , xsane not recognizing AIO HP Scanner

2017-11-12 Thread Abel Thomas
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu release used is 17.10. The version of package is
hplip-3.17.10. I expected the scanner to be detected after installing
the latest HP driver. After i ran hp-check, it says no scanners
discovered.

Scanner was detected by simple scan and Xsane in 17.04. This is
happening since the Upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10. However, the Printing
functionality works just as expected in 17.10.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-11-12 Thread Daeld
It has been clear for a while now that Ubuntu actually has a 2-year
release cycle. I have used ubuntu since 8.10, always using the most
recent release but since 10.04 I have considered that LTS stands for
long term STABLE because of exactly this kind of problem with 17.10. So
I now consider the non-LTS releases to be a "dev/tester" release.
Ubuntu doesn't officially say that, but I notice that if you go to the
download page, 16.04.3 is the first option available. I think that
Canonical should just be honest about it. I would still use the
"dev/test" releases and they could take more risks. When I recommend an
ubuntu distro to a new user, I will usually recommend the LTS because I
don't want them to have to mess around and be put off. This is the
reason why we still have bug #1 an issue for laptops and desktops

[Bug 1731833] [NEW] Surface P4 -Network adapter bug(frequent disconnections)

2017-11-12 Thread John Ross
Public bug reported:

After finding myself somewhat disappointed (again)with Windows 10, I decided to
switch back to Ubuntu. Picking up 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Alpha amd64
distro for my Surface 4 Pro, I got stuck with the network disconnections bug
explained here; additionally, I have identified a few less problematic device
issues like camera, poor sound quality, no touch screen, and no Bluetooth pen
as so far. Back to the network adapter, after researching a ton of forums, I
end up with this one hoping that the solution number one from Jesse will help.
I run "$ sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf" command and fund
[Device]
Wifi.scan-rand-mac-address = no in place. In desperation, I have changed it
to "yes" hoping that NO might interfere with this distro only, but the results
are the same as was before. Disconnections occurred as frequent as before with
exactly same patterns. As I am inexperienced with Linux, I depend on your help,
can anyone guide me what to do next, please?

[Bug 1726061] Re: Inspiron 5565 suspend issues after 17.10 upgrade

2017-11-12 Thread Aaron Peromsik
But that bisection may be leading toward a dead end or at least a moot
point. The behavior which I am calling "bad" there is different from
what I am currently seeing in later RCs and in 4.14.0.

In, for example, my last "bad" commit 126f760ca94, upon suspend the
machine does actually suspend but can't wake.

In 4.14rc6, 4.14rc8, and 4.14, now upon suspend I am seeing the display
power off and everything spins down but only for a moment -- then it
immediately resumes. wifi and graphics seem to work OK at that point.
The main remaining problem is just failure to remain suspended.

That is true at least upon first suspend. In one of those builds I did
see a case where a second suspend would spin down, try to spin up, but
although the display backlight did come back on the machine remained
unresponsive.

I am not sure why the later RCs and in particular rc6 switched to this
new failure mode. In my earlier notes it's clear that they used to be
failing more like the way 126f760ca94 still behaves.

You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at

[Bug 1720670] Re: Freeplane fails to start in Ubuntu 17.10

2017-11-12 Thread David Thompson
Thanks, Brian. I downloaded the pre-releaase version via my Muon Package
Manager, and it works fine. I did lose all my previous setting, but this is a
small price to pay. I use Freeplane daily for my writing and being deprived of
it is a major hardship.
This is at least the second time that a Kubuntu upgrade broke Freeplane. I
wonder if anything can be done to prevent it happening again in future
upgrades? David

[Bug 1731810] [NEW] Unable to Lock Screen.

2017-11-12 Thread Alex Morris
Public bug reported:

No matter how I try to lock my screen (Super + L, Menu Item, or Time
Out) the screen tries to lock, but freezes for a second, and resumes my
running gnome session as it was. If I try again after that, my session
freezes and has to be restarted.

If my computer is left at the regular login screen with no user signed
in, It will respect power settings, and turn the screen off after 10
minutes.

The following is a dump of my Syslog at the time of crash.

[Bug 1731341] Re: Fujifilm X-T10 regression on 17.10: "Unable to fetch previews from the camera: Unspecified error (-1)"

2017-11-12 Thread Aaron Whitehouse
Marcus has said in the upstream bug:
"I released 2.5.16 some weeks ago.

the commit fixing this issue for backporting is
472a9461b457b4d08ecf10a93bb7f1efdc2124c0 "

It would be excellent if this could please make its way into Ubuntu.

[Bug 1730927] Re: Support the new 280 character limit.

2017-11-12 Thread Achim Behrens
This Bug is not fixed for the actual supported packages.
Since not using the correct Character Limit is a heavy bug, i think the stable
packages should be updated/patched.

[Bug 1731801] Re: Current release in Ubuntu repo doesn't work in 17.10 (X)

2017-11-12 Thread Reuben Thomas
Note: this bug is an Ubuntu bug, not a Caffeine bug. Caffeine merely
happens to be hosted on Launchpad; I don't actually package it for
Ubuntu; as you can see, the Ubuntu maintainer is Ubuntu MOTU Developers.
Hence, marking invalid for upstream, and adding an assignment to the
Ubuntu package.

Affected me on Ubuntu for Windows. Reproduction steps:

- Start on Trusty LTS
- Install mysql-server
- Log in, create a database, but no tables

[Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake

2017-11-12 Thread Brad
OK so it turns out I lied. It doesn't always work on Antergos either. It seems
to happen randomly and how to get it working again is also a mystery.
Resetting BIOS default does not restore it, and neither does booting into
Windows - where it's not working there either. I unplugged both the power cable
and the USB mouse then just kept restarting it until it mysteriously started
working again.
Attached is the full dmesg logs for both working (YES) and not (NO). Here the

[Bug 1731803] [NEW] LubuntuNext 17.10 - Not in Menu + ModuleNotFoundError

2017-11-12 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I recently installed Lubuntu Next 17.10.

I have been using Flashpeak-SlimJet as a browser, but it is not in the
repositories,
so I download the .deb file and use gdebi to install it.

The version of gdebi that Lubuntu Next installs is gdebi-kde, presumably
because LN uses Qt.

The first problem was that the .desktop file for gdebi-kde has the line
"OnlyShowIn KDE;Qt" (or similar). I tried to alter the line, but was
unsure of syntax, and nothing appeared in the menu until I removed the
line entirely.

The next problem was that whether trying to bring up the program from
the menu or double-clicking on the .deb file or using the context menu,
nothing ever happened.

When running from the terminal, I got the following result:

"scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ gdebi-kde
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/gdebi-kde", line 26, in
from PyKDE4.kdecore import KCmdLineArgs, KAboutData, KCmdLineOptions, ki18n
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/PyKDE4/__init__.py", line 1, in
import sys,DLFCN
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'DLFCN'
"

I don't know if that is the only module missing, or if it just stops at
the first error.

I "solved" the problem by installing "gdebi" and invoking "gdebi-gtk"

[Bug 696435] Re: wait-for-root fails to detect nbd root

2017-11-12 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Hello, I will retest this with the sru kernel.

The udevadm monitor appears to monitor things that it knows about
thus first one needs to load nbd module, start monitor, unload nbd
module, then proceed with the test case.

I've started validating this on wednesday, but had to travel away from a
computer for an emergency =/ will test this first thing on monday.

2017-11-12 Thread Lucas Kocia
This was requested as an option in Network-manager a while ago (see
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=720331). Current work-around appears
to be to invoke:
"sudo iw region set AU"
or whatever char code other then AU you wish.

[Bug 1714286] Re: Lack of feedback if icon for single window is clicked

2017-11-12 Thread Coeur Noir
Maybe a workaround, using dconf-editor, browse to
/org/gnome/shell/extensions/dash-to-dock

There change middle-click-action to 'minimize'
and
shift-middle-click-action to 'launch'

Now a middle click minimizes current running window and shift middle
click opens a new window ( if one is already running ).

To get closer to Unity, I also was suggested to change scroll-action to
'cycle-windows'.

And well I begin to little enjoy 17.10.

[Bug 1730069] Re: kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

2017-11-12 Thread Patrick Mackinlay
I can do it, but the E-350D is not the fastest CPU out there (I dont
have access to any other debian boxes at the moment). It took around 1.5
hours to build the first package and it looks like it will take up to 13
more steps, so it may be quite a few days before I have the broken
commit.

[Bug 1716232] Re: Allow scrollwheel to cycle through windows

2017-11-12 Thread Coeur Noir
Coming from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-
extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1730199 I've recently noticed there is one
wheelmouse action available on artful dock by default : on the «
applications » icon, it allows you to change workspace, which is very
convenient ( no more need for the ugly activities button )

François, I can see in dconf editor a scroll-switch-workspace which does
not seem to work if enabled ( default behavior ) or I don't understand
what it's supposed to do. I've set it to « off » and can't see any
difference.

Beside that if I set « cycle-windows » then no more workspace switching
by wheel mouse on « applications » icon. Whatever I set for scroll-
switch-workspace.

Title: Konversation: Crash in IRC message parsing
Risk Rating:High
CVE:CVE-2017-15923
Versions:   konversation <= 1.7.2
Date: 12 November 2017

Overview

Konversation has support for colors in IRC messages. Any malicious user
connected to the
same IRC network can send a carefully crafted message that will crash the
Konversation user client.

Workaround
==
Go to Interface → Colors in the Configure Konversation dialog and uncheck Allow
Colored Text in IRC Messages (near the bottom)

Solution

Update to Konversation > 1.7.2

Or apply the following patches:
1.7:
https://cgit.kde.org/konversation.git/commit/?h=1.7=34cc9556c1a089fac6b674d3bd6f2248e9512902
1.6:
https://cgit.kde.org/konversation.git/commit/?h=1.6=cebf8d7658b0e3afb0292c273704ec4d2ea4019f
1.5:
https://cgit.kde.org/konversation.git/commit/?h=1.5=6a7f59ee1b9dbc6e5cf9e5f3b306504d02b73ef0
1.4: the patch for 1.5 will apply, but you should upgrade

[Bug 1731798] [NEW] package unattended-upgrades 0.90ubuntu0.7 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-12 Thread Arlie Stephens
Public bug reported:

My ubuntu system locks up regularly. Bugs I've reported about this get
closed for inattention, after being ignored, and queries about how to do
basic debugging get the same treatment, so I just power cycle whenever
it happens again.

This time the lock up happened while the GUI upgrade-everything-to-
latest tool was running.

When I power cycled the box to recover, the system was unusable -
flashing "system problem detected" popups, none staying stable long
enough to respond.

ssh + "sudo apt-get update" + "sudo apt-get upgrade" pointed me to "sudo
dpkg --configure -a"

That command reported numerous errors - I don't know which of them are
"normal" for this system, but hidden by the GUI, and which are new.

But it got the system semi-usable from the GUI, so now I'm clicking on
"yes, report it" for the many pop-ups, of which this is one.

FWIW, unattended-upgrades is one of the ones "dpkg --reconfigure -a"
complained about.

[Bug 1731796] [NEW] package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

This is a bug report about errors during the upgrade process. I don't
know whether or not my samba installation was working immediately before
the upgrade; the windows box that was intended to be a client died and
has not been replaced. Don't believe my answers to the forced questions.

[Bug 1729736] Re: 10de:1c8c [MSI] Module nouveau fails to manage GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile

2017-11-12 Thread Etienne URBAH
Concerning the support of Nvidia GP107M [GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile] by
the 'nouveau' module of Linux kernels :

- Before kernel v4.12, it was NOT supported at all.

- Beginning with kernel v4.12, I could NOT install Ubuntu 17.10 Beta at
all, so I suppose that the current issue was present.

- After reading
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1723619/comments/24
I succeeded installing Unbuntu 17.10 Artful with following addition at the
end of the boot line :
   modprobe.blacklist=nouveau -- modprobe.blacklist=nouveau

With Linux kernels from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline :

- I already wrote that Linux kernel 4.14.0-041400rc7 seems to succeed.

- I just tested Linux kernel 4.14.0-041400rc8 : Systematically, as
soon as I try 'lspci -nn -v -s 1:0.0', the whole machine immediately
freezes. That is a regression compared to v4.14-rc7.

Oh well. I forgot that powerpc had been dropped before 17.04.

I guess we'll only have to test that the updated version works exactly
as before.

[Bug 1731735] Re: zfs scrub starts on all pools simultaneously

2017-11-12 Thread Gaspar Chilingarov
Yes, I'm using ZFS on laptop to get benefits of snapshotting and zfs
send/receive, apart from that the machine does not do heavy IO :)

Thanks for advice, definitely it is not a intended use scenario.

May some changes in documentation will help to provide better clarity.
Or may be even informational message while creating second pool on a
same disk.

[Bug 1571023] Re: Packaged version is out of date

2017-11-12 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>Official releases will never be updated except for security or serious
usability issues.

For the most part, only critical bug or security fixes are added to
older releases. These are known as Stable Release Upgrades
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates)

However, there is another possibility, which is known as backports. In
this case, a package is taken from a newer release and rebuilt for an
older one. It is then made available in the -backports repo, which is
part of the official archive, albeit not enabled by default. Since
keepass2 2.37+dfsg-1 is available in bionic (the upcoming 18.04), it
might be possible to backport this to older Ubuntu releases. For details
on how to do this, please follow the instructions for "Requesting a
Backport" at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport.
