[Bug 1551351] Re: dhclient does not renew leases

2018-03-14 Thread Andreas Mohr
Major categorization aspects:
- this very important core functionality (properly reliable resource management
of DHCP leases, also in suspend-to-RAM etc.) **NEVER EVER WORKS** (exclusively
suspend-to-RAM use case here, ending up with stale IP address):
  - this did not work in 12.04LTS
  - this still did not work after upgrade to 14.04LTS
  - this STILL did not work after upgrade to 16.04LTS (recently upgraded, i.e.
after activity of #12 which says that it DID work there, yet perhaps not
suspend-to-RAM)
- importance of this bug should be "a lot higher than High"
  Justification:
  - messes with/breaks (CORRUPTS!!) environment even *beyond* local system
scope (--> inacceptable!!), due to continuing communication via a stale IP
address which has long since been re-assigned to other hosts (as can be
verified via DNS query)
  - has been observed in *all* recent LTS releases (which are expected to work
fine in large enterpriseish environments??)
--> Ubuntu release process is sorely missing reliable verification
(persistently executed test case) for this core functionality, to ensure that
this is (and keeps!) not causing damage, at least in production (stable)
distributions

Example to achieve fixing stale IP (renew DHCP lease):
nmcli c
nmcli c down uuid
nmcli c up uuid

[Bug 1741390] Re: Please backport open-vm-tools 2:10.2.0-3 (main) from bionic

2018-03-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
File is \x2d
Name has to be escaped as \\x2d for e.g. systemctl

This is exactly as we have it in later releases with the fix - so the
file names are "ok" despite still feeling odd to have it named that way.

It turns out that the old 'deb-systemd-helper' is fine with the name - that is
the reason it is installed and enabled corretcly.
The failing part is 'deb-systemd.invoke', that would need other escapes.
This call is no more existing in newer Ubuntu releases as dh_installsystemd has
taken over there but does not exist on Xenial yet.

The newer version of deb-systemd-invoke is no more used in Bionic, but
it would be fixed - not worth for this case but nice to know.

The older Xenial version failes the same way at the moment btw.
So we are fixing a real bug in Xenial, not just removing backport artifacts.
Essentially it is not started on install and stopped on upgrade until reboot.

The escaping in /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke is inconsistent.
For the first check we would need to pass: run-vmblockx2dfuse.mount
But for the second we would need to pass: run-vmblock\\x2dfuse.mount

The "real" fix would be in /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke:
my $enabled_output = `/bin/systemctl is-enabled -- '$unit'`;
to
my $enabled_output = `/bin/systemctl is-enabled -- $unit`;
But that has too many regression risks on an SRU.

But for open-vm-tools alone we can fix this up by overriding dh_systemd_start.
Generated:
if [ -d /run/systemd/system ]; then
systemctl --system daemon-reload >/dev/null || true
deb-systemd-invoke start run-vmblock\\x2dfuse.mount >/dev/null || true
fi
Has to be replaced with a custom snipped to handle the esacping.
I checked the other calls to deb-systemd-invoke, e.g. the stop - they work fine
with the names.

I have fixed the issues and ran test builds.
The now:
- do not report the warnigns on install/upgrade they did before
- the service is active right after install of open-vm-tools-desktop

The new version in the ppa 10.2.0-3ubuntu0.16.04.1~ppa6 is good for a
retest.

Public bug reported:

Exaile music player has been missing from latest Ubuntu releases due to
incompatibilities with old gstreamer and GTK versions. New release 4.x.x
is again compatible with latest libraries and codecs so it should be

hi, Matthias,
Sorry that I did not catch your point, by preprocessed source, you mean attach
the preprocessed source before the compile procedure? I don't know whether I
can get it if so because I just got these errors by following the building
instructions provided by TensorFlow. However, I will try to process it.

[Bug 1755755] [NEW] Error in Mutt sidebar when mutt is started

2018-03-14 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Public bug reported:

I have Mutt configured to use the sidebar. When I start mutt, the
following error is reported:

Press any key to continue...ar.rc, line 4: ifdef: unknown command
Error in /usr/lib/mutt/source-muttrc.d|, line 5: source: errors in
/etc/Muttrc.d/sidebar.rc
Error in /etc/Muttrc, line 141: source: errors in /usr/lib/mutt/source-muttrc.d|
source: errors in /etc/Muttrc

After pressing any key as suggested, Mutt starts without error and the
sidebar works as expected.

[Bug 1755717] [NEW] FFE: xcb-proto/libxcb 1.13

2018-03-14 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

This will be needed for the first HWE stack in 18.04.2, so best to add
them now and not as an SRU which will be more painful.

xcb-proto
Release 1.13 (2018-02-28)
=
* dri3: Add multi-plane/modifier protocol for v1.2
* present: Add suboptimal-copy protocol for v1.2
* randr: Add output-lease protocol for v1.6
* Add support for variable-sized lists of FDs
* xge: Add safe generic-event sending support
* Fix initial connection handshaking
* Updated XML DTD
* Python 3.x cleanups and compatibility

libxcb
Release 1.13 (2018-02-28)
=
* Add support for variable-sized lists of FDs
* Poll for events when blocking waiting for special events
* xinput: Enable XInput extension by default
* ge: Add explicit support for GenericEvent extension
* Fix documentation warnings from clang
* Cosmetic cleanups

although it's hard for me to prove, but libxcb should fix a number of
threading issues seen in the past.

These are already in Debian testing, so they build and haven't caused
regressions.

[Bug 1755144] Re: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files

2018-03-14 Thread John Rose
I did the "sudo dpkg -i *,deb" after cd to the directory containing the
downloaded 3.7 pulseaudio deb files. All installed with warnings about
downgrading from 3.8 to 3.7. However, there was now a No Entry sign on the
'systray'. So I ran Synaptic and there were 3 'missing' packages, namely:
libpulse-dev_8.0-0ubuntu3.7_amd64.debg
libpulse-mainloop-glib0_8.0-0ubuntu3.7_amd64.deb
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth_8.0-0ubuntu3.7_amd64.deb
So I downloaded them and installed them Ok. And No Entry sign went away.
However, audio problems are still there as before.

Audio working on:
(with speakers connected by jackplug to PC, and any mp3/mp4 files or CD or DVD)
OR
(with hdmi (in monitor) speakers or usb speakers
AND
Clementine or RhythmBox on mp3 files or CDs, or Chrome on YouTube videos)

However, audio not working on:
with hdmi (in monitor) speakers or usb speakers
AND
VLC for mp3 or mp4 files or CDs or DVDs, or Videos (Totem) for mp4 files or
DVDs.

Results of 'dpkg -l | grep gstreamer > gst.txt' and 'dpkg -l | grep
libav > libav.txt' are attached in a tar.gz file.

** Attachment added: "Contains gst.txt & libav.txt"

[Bug 1755509] Re: Xenial update to 4.4.115 stable release

2018-03-14 Thread Juerg Haefliger
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree
or a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.115 upstream
stable stable patch set is now available. It should be included
in the Ubuntu kernel as well.

     git://git.kernel.org/

  TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.115 stable release shall be
     applied:

[Bug 1754506] Re: AutoFS does not automatically umount SMB shares

2018-03-14 Thread Alexander Lochmann
Some additional information:
By further digging into it, I've learned that for some reasons the smb is
reported busy.
In
autofs4_mount_busy(https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.15.6/source/fs/autofs4/expire.c#L34)
the call of may_umount_tree() returns 0. This indicates that the mount is
considered busy. I'll keep you posted.

[Bug 1755712] [NEW] KVM: multiple epoch facility bugs

2018-03-14 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

The bionic 4.15 kernel contains KVM/s390 support for the multiple epoch
facility.
This code has some bugs which can result in hanging guests when running the
guest on a z14 with a recent guest kernel (containing
6e2ef5e4f6cc57344762932d70d38ba4ec65fa8bs390/time: add support for the TOD
clock epoch extension)

The following upstream commits are necessary to fix the multi epoch facility
0e7def5fb0dc KVM: s390: provide only a single function for setting the tod (fix
SCK)
1575767ef3cf KVM: s390: consider epoch index on TOD clock syncs
d16b52cb9cdb KVM: s390: consider epoch index on hotplugged CPUs
5fe01793dd95 KVM: s390: take care of clock-comparator sign control

As an alternative 4.15.8 also contains these fixes.

---uname output---
4.15

---Additional Hardware Info---
Z14 LPAR

Machine Type = IBM z14

---System Hang---
A simple test case to trigger the hang of guests:

qemu-system-s390x -drive file=/data/bionic-server-
s390x.iso,if=none,id=d1 -nographic -enable-kvm -device virtio-scsi-ccw
-device scsi-cd,drive=d1 -m 1G -cpu z14,mepoch=on

it hangs
just before printing the network dialog.

[Bug 1755675] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 OpenVPN DNS Leaks

2018-03-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1755675/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1755705] [NEW] CFL systems are not responsive to TB16 DP/HDMI (un)plugging event.

2018-03-14 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

===SRU Justification===
[Impact]
CFL systems do not respond to Dell TB16 Dock DP/HDMI plugging event.

[Test]
Connect Dell TB16 to a CFL system and Enable runtime PM. DP/HDMI ports
on TB16 do not function.

[Fix]
Don't disable AUX IO power well.

[Regression Potential]
Low. These patches are in upstream for a while and I don't see any new
commits try to fix them.

[Bug 1754833] Re: Chromium complains that it's not the default browser when it is the default according to Gnome Settings

2018-03-14 Thread Olivier Tilloy
That's interesting.

If you close gnome settings, open it again, does it consistently say
that the default browser is chromium? What are the other options in the
dropdown? Can you confirm that firefox is not installed by sharing the
output of the following command:

apt policy firefox

It looks like it might be an issue with budgie's default settings that
default to firefox (the ubuntu default) instead of chromium.

[Bug 1741390] Re: Please backport open-vm-tools 2:10.2.0-3 (main) from bionic

2018-03-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hmm, I had the service running in my test, but I started it on my own.
Maybe the remaining issue now is that it is not started by default - we know
there were some issues due to the special name of this service making dh tools
stumble over it (and those changed in different versions).
I'll take a look at the auto-start and install-messages of it in particular and
thanks for taking a look again.

[Bug 1741390] Re: Please backport open-vm-tools 2:10.2.0-3 (main) from bionic

2018-03-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Ok, I can reproduce the issue with a full purge and reinstall.
The enable part is good on install - the service is enabled and not just
dropped on disk as a file.
But the follow on start is what fails - which also explains why it worked after
a reboot without further modification.
That is enough for me to reiterate until I have a fix.

[Bug 1589780] Re: chrony.service doesn't start on LXD container

2018-03-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Note: while the wrapper approach would work (after some test and
polishing), compared to the upstream -X it will have one drawback.

If future containers grow time-namespacing as a feature it will still default
to not adjusting the time in containers.
But as long as we don't know how time-namespaces will be implemented we can't
code special cases for that (while chrony itself can try and fallback which is
the -X option).
