[Bug 931044] Re: no more printing

2018-07-30 Thread Paul White
Gunter,

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all
reported bugs in a timely manner. You reported this bug some time ago
and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Presumably this problem was a one time occurrence and/or is no longer an
issue? Can this bug report now be closed?

If we do not hear from you the bug report will close itself in
approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1742443] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: PrtSc doesn't trigger gnome-screenshot window

2018-07-30 Thread Colan Schwartz
Workaround (from #3 above):

In Settings -> Devices -> Keyboard, disable the following:

* Save a screenshot of a window to Pictures
* Save a screenshot of an area to Pictures
* Save a screenshot to Pictures

Then, add a custom keyboard shortcut:

Name: Gnome screenshot (interactive)
Command: gnome-screenshot --interactive
Shortcut: Print

[Bug 1784454] Re: kernel panic on booting kernel 4.4 based d-i from 16.04.5 RC image

2018-07-30 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Frank, or anyone else affected,

Accepted systemd into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/229-4ubuntu21.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

On Ubuntu 17.10 I could see a message about "stopping user manager for
uid", but on 18.04 I only see information about storage I always get in
the boot process, nothing apparently bad.

I used different versions of the NVIDIA blob driver without getting
different results, but the error didn't appear in almost one month using
Linux Mint, so I think the problem is from Ubuntu's stack.

[Bug 1784476] [NEW] Trusted and paired blueltooth keyboard available only after login

2018-07-30 Thread Heikki Moisander
Public bug reported:

Logitec K800 and logitec M535 worked perfectly with Ubuntu 16.04.

I can pair the keybord alone and everything works, but mouse M535 can
not be paird at all with default bluetooth settings so that it would
work after boot. However using blueman M535 can be successfully paired,
but then keyboard k800 will not be visible at login time. It will
eventually work after login in.

Also, my instructions for doing this in Ubuntu should have made clear that
you need to:-
* Be logged into Ubuntu
* Have connected the printer/scanner
* Waited for Ubuntu to do its setup (this will install the printer only)
* Then follow my instructions for setting up scanning

Oops.

2018-07-30 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. You either need to boot the installer in bios
mode, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition
to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you choose the "use
entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1784473] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2018-07-30 Thread Amit Dube
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04LTS(dual booted with windows 7)
when I selected ubuntu from the grub menu to boot into the OS. But I got
a black screen I waited for few seconds but I was still at black screen.
So, I forced shutdown the laptop. Again in second attempt to login I got
black screen this time I waited for more than a minute and pressed power
button once which suspended the pc then I pressed enter and I was
presented with login screen. To solve the problem I followed this guide
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029624/ubuntu-18-04-live-boot-leads-to-
blank-screen

and changed quiet splash to nomodeset quiet splash. After applying this fix
there was no black screen at the time of login, but the laptop started to
freeze randomly even when left idle for more than 30 mins it would freeze. I
had force shutdown each time and this happened very frequently.
I again changed nomodeset quiet splash to quiet splash, which again leads to
black screen after selecting ubuntu from the grub menu. I also did RAM test
using Memtest86 from GRUB and everything was fine

systemd-analyze time
Startup finished in 6.015s (kernel) + 1min 26.820s (userspace) = 1min 32.836s

[Bug 1784471] [NEW] Ubuntu cloud-images fail after mutation due to having 2 disk images

2018-07-30 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

I've been attempting to use Ubuntu Vagrant boxes with vagrant-libvirt
locally and hitting a lot of problems after using vagrant-mutate to
convert the VirtualBox box to libvirt!

After solving or working around several bugs in vagrant-libvirt itself I
found the guest image would boot but never bring up any network so
"vagrant up" fails eventually.

This affects the Ubuntu cloud-image boxes since they are for VirtualBox
and contain 2 disk images: the root-fs and the cloud-init data. E.g the
ubuntu/bionic64 image when mutated results in only 1 disk image (the
cloudimage-configdrive is not mutated):

[Bug 1769657] Re: update toolchain packages for bionic

2018-07-30 Thread Gregor Jasny via ubuntu-bugs
Hello doko,

could you please tell if the work described in this issue is likely to
happen in Bionic?

I'd like to use clang and with C++17 and with libstdc++-7-dev I'm
running into the issue described in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=877838

There's an upstream libstdc++ work-around available in libstdc++-8-dev
but I'm unsure if the -8 version is suitable for production due to only
being available in 'universe' and having a kind of snapshot version.

Thanks,
Gregor

ExecStartPre=-/bin/mkdir /run/clamav
ExecStartPre=/bin/chown clamav /run/clamav

[Bug 1784465] [NEW] apt generates unusable apport reports for 'package is in a very bad inconsistent state'

2018-07-30 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

We get a steady stream of apport-driven bug reports in launchpad about
packages of the variety 'package is in a very bad inconsistent state;
you should reinstall it before attempting configuration'.

Unfortunately, the reports are sent to launchpad without sufficient
context to show why the package ended up in this state, which makes them
useless as a source of information for improving the distribution.

Either the reporting should be fixed to include the dpkg/apt history
context to explain why the package ended up in this state originally, or
bug report filing should be repressed for this class of error.

[Bug 1784454] Re: kernel panic on booting kernel 4.4 based d-i from 16.04.5 RC image

13: if [ -f /sys/module/scsi_mod/parameters/scan ]; then

Not sure how come the file is there, yet "cannot be created" when we try
to echo into it... maybe it's not writable or disappears.

I think the quickest botch that i can think of is:

   echo sync > /sys/module/scsi_mod/parameters/scan 2>/dev/null || :

to redirect errors to oblivion, and to ignore errors from this
action

[Bug 1781256] Re: installation failed

2018-07-30 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is partitioned to boot in bios mode because it is partitioned
with MBR instead of GPT and has no EFI system partition. You can see
the disk layout in the partman log file. Your syslog shows the reason
the install crashed is because you are running in EFI mode but have no
EFI system partition:

Jul 11 16:47:07 ubuntu ubiquity: Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
Jul 11 16:47:07 ubuntu ubiquity: grub-install: error: cannot find EFI directory.

This also should be fixed in 18.04.1 so that it will automatically
install the bios version of grub instead.

[Bug 1780470] Re: BUG: scheduling while atomic (Kernel : Ubuntu-3.13 + VMware: 6.0 and late)

2018-07-30 Thread Eric Desrochers
Feedback from an affected user (3 weeks after he start installing a
test kernel with the potential candidate fixes :

"
..we are running the test kernel on 13 VMs, 10 on the new environment (VMware

in the new environment, have been installing the test kernels on more VMs as
they hang, and have experienced no ill effects in the old environment...

With that being said, I'll submit the patch series to the Ubuntu kernel
ML for final approval, when the next SRU cycle will be announce.

  * The Trusty HWE kernel (Ubuntu-4.4.0-X) doesn't exhibit the situation on

[Bug 1784098] Re: crashes telling me that I have several repository mirrors

2018-07-30 Thread Brian Murray
The reason the ubuntu-minimal package is not found is because you have
disabled the release pocket for main and restricted. Your
/etc/apt/source.list file contains the following:

  5 # deb http://it-mirrors.evowise.com/ubuntu/ xenial main restricted
  6 # deb-src http://it-mirrors.evowise.com/ubuntu/ xenial main restricted

If you were to uncomment those lines ubuntu-minimal will be found but
your upgrade may fail for other reasons.

It's currently in the 'next' tree of the powerpc maintainer:
