[Bug 1925732] [NEW] new in 21.04: gnome window manager ignores the --geometry location request of the gnome-terminal
Public bug reported: The example "gnome-terminal --geometry=80x24+200+200" from the man page of gnome-terminal, does not work: while the 80x24 part of the geometry request is executed, the location +200+200 is overridden by the automatic positioning of new windows by the "Gnome Shell". "--geometry=GEOMETRY Set the window size as COLSxROWS+X+Y. For example, 80x24 or 80x24+200+200." [continuing] This is bad, since Ubuntu 21.04 switches from Xorg to Wayland by default which effectively disables screen sharing on Chromium. [Bug 1849478] Re: [snap] (experimental) pipewire support not available
Starting from Ubuntu 21.04 the pipewire libs are bundled in Ubuntu itself, to allow screen sharing over webrtc. This allows Firefox to cast screen properly, which is great :) However, since the Chromium snap is missing the pipewire support (currently 90.0.4430.85), it's not possible to set the flag chrome://flags/#enable-webrtc-pipewire-capturer to true, which effectively disables screen sharing on Chromium. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849478 Title: [snap] (experimental) pipewire support not available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1849478/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1925724] [NEW] Trackpad can't click in Hirsute
Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu 21.04 this morning, and I can't left-click anything with my trackpad. I can move it, and right-click things with it, but the left-click button does nothing. I can confirm this is not a X or Wayland bug because it occurs when I use both. I can confirm it isn't a kernel thing because I have no issues in Fedora 34, which uses the same kernel. And it's no GNOME issue either, because it happens in MATE. I haven't tried KDE yet, but I don't think that will change anything. This leaves me in a complicated situation where I have no idea what package the problem it in, and the same X, Wayland, GNOME and kernel versions have no problems in Fedora, and I've tried GNOME with both X and Wayland in Ubuntu groovy and there are no issues there. Anyway, for now I am putting up with GNOME's Dwell Click feature. This is a fresh install, the only things I've changed are the following: - Remove snap (apt purge snapd) - Install GNOME Software and Flatpak (apt install --no-reccomends gnome-software-plugin-flatpak) - Install MATE desktop environment to see if the problem lies in GNOME (apt install mate) ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925724 Title: Trackpad can't click in Hirsute To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1925724/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1925719] [NEW] UpdateManager Crash
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 2020 LTS, When I choose update system, Update Manager crash. Following the crash report details, I found there is a bug in Update Manager scripts. Open /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/UpdateManager/backend/__init__.py, pkgs_inpstall_oem and pkgs_upgrade_oem variables are defined in start method. However, these variables init in for loop and used out of for loop, the next function: self.commit_oem(pkgs_inpstall_oem, pkgs_upgrade_oem) will crash as variables are not inited. Fix method is obvious, When definition code is moved out of for loop, the Update Manager work successfully. ** Affects: update-manager Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Project changed: launchpad => update-manager ** Also affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925719 Title: UpdateManager Crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/update-manager/+bug/1925719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1925407] Re: ubuntu_aufs_smoke_test failed on Hirsute RISCV (CONFIG_AUFS_FS is not set)
Disabling AUFS was a choice, we planned to update the test accordingly but just didn't get to it. The only remaining software which used AUFS in the archive was docker, and even there support is deprecated in favor of overlayfs. In hirsute a migration strategy was put in place for docker, so AUFS was disabled. We still have it imported into the kernel source for the hwe kernel, as we do need to support AUFS for the life of 20.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925407 Title: ubuntu_aufs_smoke_test failed on Hirsute RISCV (CONFIG_AUFS_FS is not set) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-kernel-tests/+bug/1925407/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Forget about the messages that I show in the previous post: it seems that this problem is also happening in Ubuntu 20.10 groovy and are unrelated to the original bug. I didn't realize these messages before because in groovy these messages are way less informative than in hirsute. In groovy it only show: abr 23 02:45:40 fpglinux gnome-shell[1730]: value "nan" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'x' of type 'gfloat' abr 23 02:45:40 fpglinux gnome-shell[1730]: value "nan" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'y' of type 'gfloat' abr 23 02:45:40 fpglinux gnome-shell[1730]: value "-inf" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'width' of type 'gfloat' abr 23 02:45:40 fpglinux gnome-shell[1730]: value "-inf" of type 'gfloat' is invalid or out of range for property 'height' of type 'gfloat' So it's probably happening since ages... [Bug 1925710] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Fails to boot on Lenovo Flex 3-1480 laptop
Public bug reported: I've been running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS since May 2020. On Nov 12 I did a system update. The update requested a reboot. The system never completed the reboot. NOTE: Your guide lines say to select "linux" as the package if booting fails even in the "recovery"mode. So I did. Even though my tests indicate that the problem is NOT actually in the kernel. Recovery mode did fail quite a few times last year. Summary of debugging attempts: - There is some hardware dependency, as my Acer Aspire E5-576 laptop boots every time, while my Lenovo Flex 3-1480 laptop boots poorly, less that 50% of the time. In recovery mode, it boots much better, but not nearly all of the time. Linux Mint 20.1 also boots very poorly on Lenovo Flex 3-1480 laptops. likely, many other distros derived from Ubuntu 20.04 boot poorly. Other hardware platforms re likely to have this issue. It is NOT GRUB. Other distros boot from GRUB. Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 18.10, and MX Linux 19.3 boot every time from GRUB. Additionally, Ubuntu 20.04 fails to boot from rEFInd. It is NOT the kernel. Old kernels fail to boot. These kernels booted fine before the update. It is NOT systemd. I suspected systemd, but when I attempted to isolate the problem to systemd, I failed. I have spent many, many hours over many months attempting to isolate this problem to a particular module. I failed. Good luck. Details of debugging attempts: - The latest kernel on Nov 12, 2020 was 5.4.0-54-generic. I'm not sure if this was installed by that update or not. I tied to boot earlier kernels. Neither 5.4.0-53-generic nor 5.4.0-52-generic booted. I tried booting -53- in recovery mode. That worked, but the screen resolution is very low, making my large high resolution monitor relatively useless. I have two computers with Ubuntu 20.04 installed. The Lenovo Flex 3-1480 fails to boot reliably, less than 50% success. The Acer Aspire E5-576 boots every time. Over the next few months, I tried many things. I installed rEFInd boot loader. Ubuntu 20.04 still failed to boot. Ubuntu 15.10 and Ubuntu 18.10 still boot just fine from either GRUB of rEFInd. I had initially installed Ubuntu 20.04 on a USB Flash drive. Some claim a relatively short life for USBs used that way, so I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my HDD. That booted no better than the USB install. In mid January, I installed Linux Mint 20.1. This is a close derivative of Ubuntu 20.04. Linux Mint 20.1 boots no better than Ubuntu 20.04. In February, I installed MX Linux 19.3 This boots every time! MX Linux installed a separate copy of GRUB. From the EFI boot menu, I can select either MX Linux GRUB or Ubuntu GRUB. From either GRUB, both Ubuntu 20.04 and Linux Mint 20.1 boot badly. From either GRUB, Ubuntu 15.10, Ubuntu 18.10 and MX Linux 19.3 boot every time. In mid April 2021, I attempted to demonstrate that systemd was the problem. I reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04 from the Apr 2020 image. I specifically did NOT update. With the Ubuntu 20.04 April 2020 image I booted 18 times NO failures. (systemd version was 245.4-4ubuntu3) I Upgraded systemd to the latest version: 245.4-4ubuntu3.6. NO OTHER updates! All else is April 2020 image. Booted 10 times NO failures. This demonstrates that systemd is not the problem. I did a full system upgrade on 2021 Apr 16. In the next few days: Booted in normal mode 18 times, 14 failures Booted in recovery mode 7 times, 0 failures Boot failure rate 14/25 = 56% -- Other stuff you requested: 1005 asteroid ~ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Release:20.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: linux-image-5.8.0-50-generic 5.8.0-50.56~20.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.8.0-50.56~20.04.1-generic 5.8.18 Uname: Linux 5.8.0-50-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.16 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Apr 22 20:30:42 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2021-04-16 (6 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed-hwe-5.8 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: linux-signed-hwe-5.8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal ** Description changed: I've been running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS since May 2020. [Bug 1925482] Re: Ubuntu 21.04 won't boot with NVMe enabled on Parallels Desktop 16
Hi Dominik, thank you for the report! So, it would be ideal to have a full log when the issue happens - do you know if Parallels has NVMe hotplug mechanism? One idea would be to SATA- boot the guest and hotplug-add the NVMe device, while you're logged in the guest (ssh maybe), this way collecting the full log. In case Parallels has no hotplug capability (or if it does not reproduce), another idea would be to use the serial console output, boot Ubuntu with "ignore_loglevel" parameter and the NVMe device, and capture the serial console output when the issue happens. [Bug 1925690] [NEW] relative symlink breaks search path
Public bug reported: Hi, ant comes with /usr/bin/ant as a symlink to ../share/ant/bin/ant , thus pointing to /usr/share/ant/bin/ant But then, recent ubuntu versions such as Lubuntu come with /bin being a symlink to usr/bin . If /bin comes before /usr/bin in PATH, the shell finds ant at /bin/ant and calls it as /bin/ant, thus beeing unable to resolv the relative symlink: % /bin/ant /bin/ant: 1: cd: can't cd to /bin/../share/ant/bin/.. Error: Could not find or load main class org.apache.tools.ant.launch.Launcher Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.tools.ant.launch.Launcher It's a shellscript that can be started, because the Linux kernel itself can deal with these nested symlinks, but the script itself tries to resolv it's own path in order to find it's library and fails then. [Bug 1925685] [NEW] [SRU] Patch for flicker and glitching on certain hardware, intel framebuffer,
Public bug reported: Filing this with my Kubuntu Focus (kfocus.org) OEM hat on: [Impact] We are having screen flickering and glitching issues with some of our hardware upon wake from suspend. We have worked with our ODM to figure out a fix for this. They had reported there were no issues when running Windows on the same hardware. As such, we tested, and found that this issue first began as a regression in kernel 5.0 (did not exist in kernel 4.18 per our tests). We identified a patch via https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/272 in which this has been solved. Per our testing by recompiling the kernel, this completely fixes our hardware issue. As of 4-21, this fix has been merged into the Linux kernel per Timo Aaltonen, and will be included in the kernel in the 5.13 release. Our hardware ships with Kubuntu 20.04 LTS, which means the 5.13 kernel will not see these machines, at least in the forseeable future. As such, we request that this patch be added to the kernel. Per our testing, this patch is straightforward to add and works flawlessly. Until this is fixed, we have a whole batch of hardware we cannot sell, so, as an OEM, this is a high priority. [Test Plan] * Install Kubuntu on an affected Kubuntu Focus M2 computer (not in the hands of customers at this time) * Notice screen glitching/flickering after wake-from-suspend. * Install kernel compiled with the attached patch. Boot from patched kernel. * Suspend laptop, resume. No glitches. [Where problems could occur] * Although this solves the problem for us and has been confirmed to work with the Intel developers that developed this patch, it could cause another display type to have problems. This is unlikely as it has been vetted by Intel and by the mainline Linux kernel developers. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Critical Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: High Status: Confirmed ** Tags: oem-priority ** Patch added: "Intel-developed patch to fix framebuffer flicker/glitching" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925685/+attachment/5491120/+files/drm-intel.patch ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Critical Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute) Importance: Critical => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925685 Title: [SRU] Patch for flicker and glitching on certain hardware, intel framebuffer, To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1925685/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1925682] [NEW] “Test disk” option fails with kernel panic due to insufficient QEMU RAM allocation
Public bug reported: I used usb-creator-gtk to write “ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso” from releases.ubuntu.com to a 4 GB USB stick, upon which I was given the option to test the disk. The ISO file is uncorrupted and matches the SHA256sum given on the site. When I attempted the test, the virtualized system failed to boot, apparently because the VM was given only 512 MB of RAM which is insufficient to start Ubuntu. The main error was as follows: Initramfs unpacking failed: write error Failed to execute /init (error -2) Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. [...] Full output can be seen in the QEMU screenshot I attach. I found that usb-creator-gtk launched QEMU as follows: qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 512 -hda /dev/sde I could reproduce the failure by launching this command in the host manually with the USB stick still connected. If I used the following command instead, the VM booted the Ubuntu ISO successfully: qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -m 2048 -hda /dev/sde Thus the problem seems to be that usb-creator does not launch QEMU with an appropriate -m option. Steps to reproduce: 1. Download the Ubuntu ISO ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso 2. Use usb-creator-gtk to write the file to the USB device 3. Bug summary When running GNOME shell with Wayland, the cursor and focus tracking functionality of the magnifier (a11y feature) do not correctly compute the cursor/focus location. The position is calculated from the top left of the window but the windows position is not included. This causes the magnifier to track the wrong location when the window is not maximiser or is on a second monitor. I suspect this is related to the way in which wayland is designed. But my experience in this area is minimal. When using X11 this feature works correctly. The wiki page states that under wayland the cursor and focus tracking work but this information is either out dated or was not tested correctly. Steps to reproduce >From the Gnome desktop, open a terminal by pressing ctrl + alt + t or by >opening the activities overlay and searching for "terminal". Press super + left arrow key to maximize the terminal window on the left side of the screen. Activity the magnifier by pressing super + alt + 8. Type text into the terminal window. The magnified view will move with the text cursor. Press super + right arrow key to maximize the terminal windows on the right side of the screen. Type text into the terminal. The magnified view will move but it will not show the text cursor. It will move when text is entered but will focus on the left side of the screen. What happened The magnified view does not follow the text/focus cursor correctly. What did you expect to happen The magnified view should follow the cursor and show the cursor as it does when the widnows is maximized. The correct behaviour can also be seen in Gnome shell running with X11. [Bug 1925678] [NEW] Shared object files are faulty, they don't contain all the definitions
Public bug reported: When I try do link against the shared library files from the libjsonnet0 package, a ton of definitions are missing, i.e. I get a huge amount of "undefined reference" errors. Coincidentally, the libjsonnet++.so.0.15.0 and libjsonnet.so.0.15.0 files installed with this package are just 23KB and 875KB in size, respectively, which is just a tiny fraction of the roughly 20MB I get for each of those files when I build from source, so something cannot be right here. Side-note: It is quite annoying and useless that the sibling package, libjsonnet-dev, installs only the headers and broken symlinks to the shared object files, but does not contain the shared object files themselves. ** Affects: jsonnet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925678 Title: Shared object files are faulty, they don't contain all the definitions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jsonnet/+bug/1925678/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
