[Bug 1938920] Re: [SRU] Update to netplan.io 0.103
** Description changed: [Impact] This release contains both bug-fixes and new features and we would like to make sure all of our supported customers have access to those improvements. The most notable changes (besides usual bug-fixes) incoming in 0.103: - Add YAML generator and Keyfile parser for NetworkManager YAML backend - Add activation-mode parameter, needs systemd v248+ (LP: #1664844) - - Make use of systemd-networkd's restart/reconfigure commands - Deprecate gateway4 & gateway6 in favor of defaults routes (LP: #1756590) - Add io.netplan.Netplan.Generate() DBus method - Changed the way of how unmanaged-devices are handled by NetworkManager - Improve integration test suite (LP: #1922126) See the changelog entry below for a full list of changes and bugs. [Test Plan] The following development and SRU process was followed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NetplanUpdates Netplan contains an extensive integration test suite that is ran using the SRU package for each release. This test suite's results are available here: http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/n/netplan.io A successful run is required before the proposed netplan.io package can be let into -updates. The netplan team will be in charge of attaching the artifacts and console output of the appropriate run to the bug. Netplan team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until this has happened. [Where problems could occur] Netplan being a core package it could impact the whole networking stack of the operating system up to the point where servers would not be reachable anymore after a reboot, due to broken network config being generated by netplan at bootup. In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the aforementioned integration tests are attached to this bug: Hirsute: TBD groovy_amd64.log TBD groovy_arm64.log TBD groovy_armhf.log TBD groovy_ppc64el.log TBD groovy_s390x.log Focal: TBD focal_amd64.log TBD focal_arm64.log TBD focal_armhf.log TBD focal_ppc64el.log TBD focal_s390x.log [Other Info] The integration test logs will be attached to this bug, once the package has been accepted into -proposed and the tests have been executed on the real infrastructure. [Bug 1922392] Re: No progress indication for minutes while booting subiquity
I recently tested the updated livecd-rootfs that is part of the new live-server image that Łukasz created and put here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/focal/daily-live/20210805.1/ The tests were fine so far, but I observed that the default kernel arguments (as shipped with the ISO images for booting the installer) are different. It's "quiet ---" on 21.10, but looks like 20.04 daily has "--- quiet". I think, if we stay with the arguments that are provided today, the Impish args should be changed to "--- quiet" (since I believe the idea here is that arguments that are specified after '---' are added to the bootloader config of the installed system too (that was the case for d-i, and I think it also applies to subiquity). --- BUT this ticket is about making the boot-up of the install system (on s390x only) again more 'chatty', so that people who do console based installation, get more messages as feedback, and don't become nervous if no messages are written to the console during boot for up to one or two minutes. Hence I think especially for s390x we should have "---" as kernel args in file "parmfile.ubuntu". And that is what the above MP changes: https://code.launchpad.net/~mwhudson/debian-cd/live-server-cmdline-s390x/+merge/402231 But I didn't saw that changed in the focal daily. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922392 Title: No progress indication for minutes while booting subiquity To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1922392/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1939100] Re: no update from xubuntu 16.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. You have 3rd party packages that are the issue, eg. Broken kxstudio-meta-audio-plugins:amd64 Depends on qsampler:amd64 < 2:0.4.2-1kxstudio1v5 @ii mR > Considering qsampler:amd64 260 as a solution to kxstudio-meta-audio-plugins:amd64 0 Removing kxstudio-meta-audio-plugins:amd64 rather than change qsampler:amd64 kxstudio-meta-audio-plugins is a 3rd party package, and has dependencies that do not allow upgrade to occur. Please also note this may not be your only 3rd party package blocking upgrade. [Bug 1815101] Re: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted)
The "default bionic install" uses only netplan yaml and /etc/systemd/network/ is empty. If I switch to systemd.network style, I have to create config files from scratch anyway and then this KeepConfiguration helps. (Of course I do not need to keep the netplan yaml after enabling systemd-networkd, my remark for having the IP configuration in two files was wrong) Using '/etc/systemd/network/10-netplan-ens160.network.d/override.conf' with KeepConfiguration works perfectly the same. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1815101 Title: [master] Restarting systemd-networkd breaks keepalived, heartbeat, corosync, pacemaker (interface aliases are restarted) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/netplan/+bug/1815101/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1937321] Re: System freeze (amdgpu kernel crash on resume from suspend)
Oh I didn't realize Ubuntu 20.04 has a version of libc that's a little too old for that. You will need to try an older kernel version that's still newer than the 5.8.0 that caused this bug. Maybe try: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.10.56/amd64/ Also the "invalid signature" problem I think is caused by Secure Boot. [Bug 1848746] Re: Refresh rate change requests to 40Hz are "adjusted" back to 60Hz
Hi Cameron, I didn't go upstream yet. I suppose upstream bugs should be filed to the Intel Open Source Technology Center (https://01.org/), but I'm not sure. Or maybe to the Linux kernel since it's an in-tree module after all... From what I understand, the Intel module fails to switch to anything else than the refreshing rate that's on the preferred (i.e. first mentioned on EDID) DTD. However, it seems to me the first DTD usually has the highest refresh rate, which makes your problem strange. Could that mean the 60 Hz DTD is the preferred one on your laptop's panel, despite it being able to go up to 135 Hz ? Also, are you sure you're using true Xorg, not Xorg on Wayland ? Bcos on any readings on the latter would be mostly irrelevant as they don't necessary reflect the reality (Xorg on Wayland being only a compatibility layer). From what I've seen, when asking for a reduced refresh rate, even if it fails, Wayland seems to try to near the target refresh rate by syncing frames to a factor of the effective refresh rate. That's why on a previous post, when trying to get 60Hz on my 144Hz-capable monitor, I was getting 72 fps with glxgears... But in your case of trying to get 135 from an effective 60, Wayland surely can't do this trick. Anyway, you can get the EDID from sysfs easily. On my current config, mine is in /sys/class/drm/card0-eDP-1/edid. You should have something similar. To quicky decode the EDID, you can use edid-decode (from the edid-decode package), most basically like this : edid-decode /sys/class/drm/card0-eDP-1/edid Then you can create a modified, hex-edited EDID file, with the two DTDs swapped, put it somewhere under the /lib/firmware directory and add the following in a file inside /etc/modprobe.d : options drm edid_firmware=eDP-1:mydir/myedid.bin eDP-1 is your connector name, for me it's eDP-1 but for you it can be something else. You can also omit "eDP-1:", in which case the EDID will apply to all connectors. While I didn't check myself, I suppose it will be a problem if you plug your laptop on an external monitor. Also, if the module is loaded while the system is still on the initramfs, it won't work since your modified EDID won't be there, hence you will have to add it with an initramfs hook in /etc/initramfs-tools/hooks. The file should look like this : --- File starts after this line - #!/bin/sh PREREQ="" prereqs () { echo "$PREREQ" } case "$1" in prereqs) prereqs exit 0 ;; esac . /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hook-functions copy_file edid /lib/firmware/mydir/myedid.bin - File ends before this line - Make the file belong to root:root and mode 555 (readable/executable by all). You should then update your initramfs with update-initramfs -u (to update the initramfs for the current running kernel) or update-initramfs -u -k all (to update for all installed kernels, or you can specify a kernel). And reboot... Hope this helps ! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848746 Title: Refresh rate change requests to 40Hz are "adjusted" back to 60Hz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1848746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1932313] Re: Breezy 3.2.0+bzr7543-1 FTBFS
I suspect the remaining issues are related, and stem from how the breezy.testingplugins module is created in test_plugins.py BaseTestPlugins.setUp(). This is a dynamically created module established in that routine via: self.module = types.ModuleType(self.module_name) self.overrideAttr(plugin, "_MODULE_PREFIX", self.module_prefix) self.overrideAttr(breezy, "testingplugins", self.module) sys.modules[self.module_name] = self.module I wonder if whatever caused the '.' import to fail maybe results in this dynamic creation to fail as well? The machinery here (BaseTestPlugins.reset() in particular) is also munging things and adjusting caches, which may play into the odd caching behavior Christian mentions in LP: #1937173 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932313 Title: Breezy 3.2.0+bzr7543-1 FTBFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/brz/+bug/1932313/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1937343] Re: FireFox 90 unable to install unsigned webextensions
It's not like setting MOZ_REQUIRE_SIGNING to false would allow running unsigned extensions outright. There is also about:config setting xpinstall.signatures.required, that is true by default and needs to be set false by the user before unsigned extensions can be installed. The about:config setting is behind a grave warning about security ramifications if tampered with. Still, if user attempts to install unsigned extension, they are met with another warning dialog and even after accepting that the extension is marked with big warning label about being unverified in the add-ons manager. There is no way user could install unsigned extension by mistake. And indeed this "security hole" has been around for the last 5 years, yet there appears to be no related exploits. The bug certainly does not mention of any. As mentioned, the official way around this is to install one of the Firefox versions that has MOZ_REQUIRE_SIGNING set to false on default. On Windows that might be reasonable. However, none of these are available in Ubuntus repositories. It is not big hassle to install them from Mozillas own sources, but those installations will be user specific, are not covered by the usual update system and are missing any distribution specific patches. The options left for Ubuntu users (or Linux distro users in general) are not reasonable. So that's my take on the reasonability of this. I was really hoping more balanced approach could be taken. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937343 Title: FireFox 90 unable to install unsigned webextensions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1937343/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Cameron, Thanks for sharing your work. For patches to be merged into Ubuntu kernel, patches need to be backport by sending SRU to ubuntu kernel team: kernel-team at lists.ubuntu.com with specific format. This allows reviews from broader audiences. Unsure if this is related, but I'm seeing the same issue with both the 21.04 vendor kernel and 5.13.8. I have a 165 Hz screen, and the Intel iGPU will only run it at 60 Hz. It sees the modeline, but it doesn't do anything. I'll try the EDID hack. If the Nvidia driver is able to do it, probably something wrong with the EDID parsing if the EDID hack works? My previous laptop (which I replaced just 2 days ago) didn't have this problem. However, it was a i7 10875h with a 144 Hz screen. The new laptop is a Tigerlake 11980HK. Maybe it's the difference in refresh rate or my case of a bug with the newer iGPU? I'll research to see if any of my monitor outputs go through the Intel GPU and I can test against one of my 144 Hz external monitors. I tested the updated livecd-rootfs that is part of the new live-server image that Łukasz created: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/focal/daily-live/20210805.1/ and did a couple of installations (mainly LPAR with the more complex FCP/multipath) and so far the autoinstall ran flawlessly, I didn't noticed any error or crashes (even after checking post-install), the autoinstall triggered a proper post-install reboot and I could login. So I consider this now as successfully verified and think that we can close this ticket. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924575 Title: [21.04] autoinstall reports crashes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subiquity/+bug/1924575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
