[Bug 587408] Re: Ecryptfs is very slow at listing directories with many files
I have two tests folders both wit many files and sub folders, one is on a full disk encryption with TrueCrypt, another one is eCryptfs on a ZFS RAID-5 array (much fast disk unecrypted). I have a python script that stats files in a folder and its directories. Under the eCryptfs, the script stats about 50k files, and it takes about 12 minutes Under the TrueCrypt volume, it stats about 800k files (yes, 16 times more), yet it takes only 1:15 minutes So the TrueCrypt version is about 150 times faster? (at stating) Therefore the argument that the slowness is normal due to statting a large number of files is invalid. A better explanation might be here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/654764 So it might be because of the design of eCryptfs. I had the problem too: Complete system hang, no response from mouse or keyboard, even when X was not running. My system: Ubuntu 10.04 (2.6.32-43 Kernel, 64-bit). [Bug 442130] Re: Custom fstab causes duplicate entries for partitions in Places
@ artinP (bircoe): Thanks for the link, but it did not address the issue of duplicated entries for samba shares. It did, however, contain other useful piece of information: mounting protected samba shares without a credentials file. Regarding the duplicated issue, I think the problem has to do with /etc/fstab, /etc/mtab, and the way nautilus reads those files. Once an entry in /etc/fstab is mounted, it appears in /etc/mtab, but for some reason (usually when not using default options), the mtab entry is different from the fstab entry. [Bug 512253] Re: Mistake in /etc/network/interfaces keeps the system from booting
Here is a workaround for this problem: If this happened to you and you cannot boot (and maybe you have a server without a CD-ROM drive), here is what you have to do to recover your system: - When GRUB menu appears (press ESC to prevent it from trying to boot), select any line and press 'e' for Edit. - Then, select the second line (the one that has 'kernel' at the beginning), and make the following changes: - replace 'ro' with 'rw' so you can read and write in the file-system - add 'init=/bin/bash' at the end of the line - Press Enter (so that the line is saved) - Press 'b' to boot. You will now be able to 'nano /etc/network/interfaces' and fix the file. - After you fix the file, press "Ctrl + Alt + Del" The changes you made in GRUB will NOT be saved for further boots, so you don't need to do anything to GRUB after this. [Bug 545817] [NEW] samba and apache do not start at boot but can be started manually
Public bug reported: Everything was fine for more than a year with Ubuntu 8.10. I think I might have found a solution (not really a fix) for this problem. What you have to do is to add the USB drive to the Amarok devices and set it to "Do not handle". How to do this: 1) make sure your device is mounted 2) start amarok 3) Go to: Setting->Configure Amarok->Media devices 4) Click "Add a device" 5) Make sure the first options is "Do not handle" 6) Add a name and the mountpoint (e.g. /media/USB-HDD) 7) Click OK, and Apply, and Ok, whatever... at this point Amarok should not unmound your drive anymore -- amarok unmounts external drives https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 156213] Re: In Gnome, Kde apps umount usb drives when they close
This bug is very annoying. A temporary workaround is to have a file open from that hard drive. This will make the system deny Amarok request to unmount the drive. For example: if I play music from the USB HDD with another player (or watch a movie) and I close Amarok, the drive is NOT unmounted. This also suggests that there is no data loss on the drive when amarok is unmounting it, because no other app was using it anyway.
