[Bug 1438510] Re: [REGRESSION] bluetooth headset no longer supports a2dp

2016-06-05 Thread Alexander Menk
Same problem here. The workaround partially fixes it, but still I have
sometimes problems to connect. Is it dependent on the bluetooth adapter,
headset or both? Are there know-to-work adapters?

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2016-03-09 Thread Alexander Menk
>From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/.local#Multicast_DNS_standard

"Implementers MAY choose to look up such names concurrently via other
mechanisms (e.g., Unicast DNS) and coalesce the results in some fashion.
Implementers choosing to do this should be aware of the potential for user
confusion when a given name can produce different results depending on external
network conditions (such as, but not limited to, which name lookup mechanism
responds faster)."

So wouldn't that solve the issue?

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2016-03-09 Thread Alexander Menk
This thing is a real problem and there must be a solution for that.
every new Ubuntu computer I set up in our wrongly configured Windows
network has connection problems. There is this msdn article which
recommended setting up the network so lots of people are doing that.
Can't there be some connection check after the installation which makes
the user aware of the problem and tell him to fix his Network or go to
compatibility mode where printers might not work ? this is something I
would expect from user-friendly distribution with Ubuntu definitely is.

[Bug 1009349] [NEW] crontab -i should be a default option

2012-06-06 Thread Alexander Menk
Public bug reported:

The crontab -r option is dangerous because:

* it deletes the crontab without a further prompt
* R key is just next to the E key, so you might delete your crontab if you
wanted to edit it

The -i option causes a prompt to be displayed.

This option should be on by default.

[Bug 180326] Re: pidgin won't connect until I change the status

Hi!

this problem still exists in Karmic. The impact is very silly, I still
can not use pidgin to chat (and somehow I think Empathy does not work
better with that)

I like Leonard's suggestion. We really should try to make a patch for
that. Anybody volunteer or tried already something like that? I am not
very good in C++ though :(

Some days ago I thought it is a good idea to use cifs/smbmount instead

- Cannot save files with gedit
- When opening .odt with Open Office, the seem to be opened readonly.
- The same operations work fine, when accessing the share using gnome-vfs

4. one buddy writes a Instant message
5. pidgin window wants attention
6. focus the window and tab, read the message, don't answer the message

[Bug 160679] No sound when muted in windows

2007-11-07 Thread Alexander Menk
Public bug reported:

On a Toshiba Tecra A9 I couldn't get sound to work with Ubuntu. Later I found
out that I have to unmute the sound in Windows, then it work's in Ubuntu out of

The problem is, that this mute-state is invisible in Ubuntu. I unmuted all, but
couldn't get any sound.

The mute-state setting by windows also affects the BIOS (which normally
beeps)

Possible explanation: The muting is done on some lower hardware level
(ACPI) ? But that should be switchable by linux...

[Bug 134006] Rotated JPG-images are not displayed properly rotated in the nautilus thumbnails

2007-08-22 Thread Alexander Menk
Public bug reported:

I took some photos with a Sony DSC-W55 digital still camera and rotated
some of them using the camera's rotate function 90 degrees left or

[Bug 126540] Opening Popupmenu in Context of Folder with List-View impossible?

2007-07-17 Thread Alexander Menk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Situation:

I've got installed the package which provides an open-terminal here
functionality for folders.

If Symbol-View is choosen, I can right-click into the empty space
between the symbols to open the context menu for that current folder.
There it is also possible to create a new folder.

Problem:

I use the List-View most of the time. Using that, I cannot find any
empty space to right-click on for opening the desired popup menu for the
current folder. All I can get is the file-based popupmenu.

Solution:

Workaround: The menu per-folder is accessible via the File-Menu.

Better solutions: Make the Popupmenu for the current folder accessible
in a better way. Perhaps you can merge it with the File-Menu. Or make it
available when clicking on folders in the treeview.

[Bug 14412] Re: The trash can does not have a restore / recover function

2007-06-17 Thread Alexander Menk
perhaps one can write some simple scripts to implement this.. I don't
know if a script could be attached to the nautilus del function. But -
if such a script works well, the gnome team may be motivated to
integrate it into naulitus, or we've to integrate it on our own .. it's
open source :( but I'm not very well in C by now..

Simply - when deleting a file /home/user/myfile.txt it's moved to
/home/user/.trash/myfile.txt - wouldn't it be easy to append a line to
/home/user/.trash/.origin

myfile.txt: /home/user/.trash/myfile.txt.

Nautilus then could provide an undelete function in the trash-folder
which reads that .origin file and move the file back to it's old place.

www.ubuntu.com?
www.google.de

www.google.de is displayed in the address bar. on pressing enter it
changes to www.ubuntu.com?www.google.de an opens the ubuntu webpage.
that can be a bit wierd. The adressbar should filter out newlines
directly (on paste) - not only after pressing enter.

Same applies to the input box for searchs.

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2007-04-19 Thread Alexander Menk
I have this problem too. It's very annoying. I got my IP from a AVM Fritz Box
WLAN router. The AVM guys do a good work and are not to blame that they don't
offer DNS lookup .. I think ..
Perhaps this problem will occur in very much home-network use-cases - those
people which Ubuntu is mainly targeting. There must be a solution very soon.

[Bug 94940] Re: mdns listed in nsswitch.conf causes excessive time for dns lookups

2007-04-19 Thread Alexander Menk
The problem occurs with making ssh-connections. According to strace it
tries to do a reverse lookup of the host I connection too. That host is
a dialup which I cannot be reverse-resolved (which is weird - but
despite this all worked fine with edgy..)

When changing the file to hosts: files dns it works.

It seems to me, that DNS just says no I don't know this host instead
of letting a timeout pass .. mh .. basicially ubuntu now behaves as
windows networking when opening explorer and it's looking for files ;-)

I'm beginning to understand the problem .. Perhaps that is a conceptual
problem of zeroconf-things?

Perhaps an enduser-option for disabling avahi would do? But that's
ugly..

Any other ideas ?

2007-01-24 Thread Alexander Menk
I'm using Ubuntu Edgy, I've attached the backtrace .. but couldn't create it as
explained in your wiki-link, because rythmbox doesn't crash - it just doesn't
react to any input anymore. So I pressed Ctrl+Z in gdb and type backtrace ..
to generate the attached file. hope that helps..
I think it's just a design issue when sending the audio to the soundcard - when
there is an error with the card, rythmbox perhaps shouldn't hang ... or perhaps
gstreamer has to produce an error code ..

[Bug 57441] CVS via EXTSSH doesn't work, Original Eclipse works

2006-08-23 Thread Alexander Menk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

I have installed eclipse and sun's java jdk / vm via apt-get install and
chose the sun vm via update-alternatives:

  SelectionAlternative
---
  1/usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1
 +2/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/java
* 3/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java

I'm also using PHPEclipse ...

Eclipse starts, but when trying to execute and CVS action, it say's
internal error. .metadata/.log says:

eclipse.buildId=M20060118-1600
java.fullversion=GNU libgcj 4.1.0 (Ubuntu 4.1.0-1ubuntu8)
BootLoader constants: OS=linux, ARCH=x86, WS=gtk, NL=de_DE
Command-line arguments: -data /home/self/Folder/CVS -os linux -ws gtk -arch x86
