Created attachment 483216 Patch for fixing this issue on Linux/Gtk2 This patch tries to fix the issue mentioned in the bug, for the Gtk2/Linux version of Firefox. It's a compromise, where some keys are sent to Firefox and some to the plugin: - Pressing ctrl-t, ctrl-r, ctrl-w, F11 etc. always works in Firefox - Pressing space in youtube to pause videos works - Pressing ctrl in flash games works (but not in combination with other keys) - Editing text in flash forms, using ctrl-a, -z, -x, -c and -v works Hope it makes the world somewhat less annoying for someone. There have been some updates with some problems, such as the movement of the pen not registering while one of the buttons one the pen are pressed, but I have not seen _this_ particular bug in a while. [Bug 263022] [NEW] [intrepid] upgrading libc6 left my computer in a broken state
Public bug reported: --- What I did / how to reproduce --- I was just upgrading my packages with Synaptic. --- What happened --- libc6 was left in a half-installed state and I was told to run "dpkg --configure -a". When running "dpkg --configure -a", ldconfig segfaulted and my system was left with a broken libc. Not even "ls" worked. It was much pain to bring the system to a workable state again, since I had to download the intrepid .iso and burn it using the broken computer (and that's not easy when you can only boot from CD's, so I ended up moving one of the harddrives to another computer). Then I just copied over all files belonging to the libc6 package from the CD to the harddrive and finally got it up and running again. Right now, ldconfig still segfaults and "dpkg --configure -a" is impossible to please. --- Expected results --- The package should upgrade without a hitch and preferably not leave the system in a broken state. --- Here's /etc/lsb-release --- DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=intrepid DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)" --- Here are the last lines from dpkg.log --- 2008-08-29 01:12:04 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:12:04 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:41 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:39:41 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:41 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:43 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:43 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:43 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:43 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:46 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:39:46 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:46 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:47 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:47 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:47 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:47 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:49 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:39:49 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:49 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:51 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:51 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:51 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:39:51 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:06 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:40:06 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:06 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:08 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:08 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:08 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:40:08 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:45:58 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:45:58 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:45:58 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:46:00 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:46:00 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:46:00 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:46:00 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:27 startup packages configure 2008-08-29 01:51:27 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:27 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:28 status installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:28 status triggers-pending libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:28 trigproc libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:51:28 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:20 startup archives install 2008-08-29 01:53:22 startup archives install 2008-08-29 01:53:34 upgrade libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:34 status half-configured libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:34 status unpacked libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:34 status half-installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:34 status triggers-pending man-db 2.5.2-2 2008-08-29 01:53:34 status half-installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:35 status half-installed libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:35 status unpacked libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:35 status unpacked libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2008-08-29 01:53:35 configure libc6 2.8~20080505-0ubuntu6 2.8~20080505-0ubun

If I did not answer for 10 minutes, I would expect dpkg to give up, exit gracefully and tell me which command I should type in order to resume the operation. If I were running Synaptic, I would expect it too pick up the problem and handle it gracefully too. What happened was apport detected a crash, I went out of diskspace, I had to manually delete packages from the dpkg-cache without knowing which were installed or not, I had to run dpkg --configure -a and fix a broken package. I also ended up doing this, in order to save a bit more space for each package I installed: for $f in *.deb; do sudo dpkg -i $f; sudo rm $f; done I would expect dpkg to be at least that smart, in order to save disk-space when needed. Or is that apt's job? I don't know exactly which package is to blame here, but this is a bug in my view. Re: [Bug 254515] Re: [apport] package sensors-applet 2.2.1-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen post-installation script returnerte feilstatus 139
I found that the issue appeared after my system have frozen repeatedly because 64-bit Ubuntu is having trouble with my WDC WD1500ADFD-0 harddrive. (The drive does support NCQ, but it doesn't get that at boot according to dmesg, which I think is the source of that problem). This in turn lead to some files being corrupted, which is the cause of this bug. I have reinstalled since this happened and are upgrading to intrepid right now, in hope that a later kernel will fix the issue. I don't know where to report the harddrive-issue, if it's the kernel, acpid or something else. Anyways, I guess this bug can be closed, since it's unrelated. -- [apport] package sensors-applet 2.2.1-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen post-installation script returnerte feilstatus 139 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I recently upgraded Hardy to Intrepid. Everything went smooth, except that the (closed source) nvidia drivers didn't work with the latest version of X, so I had to downgrade. So, in /etc/apt/sources.list I added both the intrepid and hardy repositories. Then I tried to install the correct nvidia drivers using EnvyNG, which happily downgraded X for me. [Bug 188567] Re: [hardy] soundproblems with zsnes
I tried zsnes -ad sdl too, and several other variations in both parameters, config-files and zsnes-versions. Sound works in Zsnes, but it still stutters, almost "vibrates", in a quick sine-wave kind of way. In the current state, zsnes is not usable for me. I've also seen this problem in other applications, specifically a game called Adanaxis ("adanaxisgpl" to run). This leads me to believe that this is not an issue with Zsnes, but with Pulseaudio. Btw, "paplay any.wav" works fine here, but speaker-test does not work, even with pasuspender: % pasuspender -- speaker-test speaker-test 1.0.15 Playback device is default Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels Using 16 octaves of pink noise Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz) Buffer size range from 256 to 2097152 Period size range from 128 to 524288 Using max buffer size 2097152 Periods = 4 was set period_size = 524288 was set buffer_size = 2097152 *** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to create stream. I'm sure it's possible to make these steps even more effecient, but my main goal was to have something that was reproducable: 1. Install Ruby in wine (in c:\ruby, straightforward installation) cd /tmp wget http://rubyforge.org/frs/download.php/29263/ruby186-26.exe wine ruby186-26.exe rm ruby186-26.exe cd 2. Install GTK2 for Ruby, in wine (straightforward installation) cd /tmp wget http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ruby-gnome2/ruby-gnome2-0.16.0-1-i386-mswin32.exe wine ruby-gnome2-0.16.0-1-i386-mswin32.exe rm ruby-gnome2-0.16.0-1-i386-mswin32.exe cd 3. Create c:\ruby\mycode (~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode) mkdir ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode 4. Extract the file "rubyroom" from rubyroom-0.35.tbz2 to c:\ruby\mycode cd /tmp wget http://www.pvv.org/~alexanro/rubyroom-0.35.tbz2 tar jxvf rubyroom-0.35.tbz2 rubyroom-0.35/rubyroom mv rubyroom-0.35/rubyroom ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode rm -r rubyroom-0.35 rubyroom-0.35.tbz2 cd 5. Create a .bat-file to run rubyroom, named c:\ruby\mycode\rubyroom.bat: * Copy this text: @echo off cls echo I'm here set PROMPT=$p$g set HOME=. c: cd \ruby\mycode ..\bin\rubyw rubyroom * Do these commands ([] are keys on the keyboard): vim ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode/rubyroom.bat[return] :set paste[return] [i] [shift]+[insert] [esc] :set ff=dos[return] [Z][Z] 6. Create a .sh file to run the .bat-file, named c:\ruby\mycode\winerubyroom.sh: * Copy this text: #!/bin/sh wine cmd /c "c:\ruby\mycode\rubyroom.bat" * Do these commands ([] are keys on the keyboard): vim ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode/winerubyroom.sh[return] :set paste[return] [i] [shift]+[insert] [esc] [Z][Z] 7. Make the .sh-file executable chmod +x ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode/winerubyroom.sh 8. Create a comfortable link to the shellscript: sudo ln -s ~/.wine/drive_c/ruby/mycode/winerubyroom.sh /usr/local/bin/winerubyroom 9. Run RubyRoom with wine winerubyroom === WINEDEBUG=+relay === I tried adding WINEDEBUG=+relay in front of "wine" in winerubyroom.sh. Then I tried running "winerubyroom" like this: winerubyroom &> output.txt The result was that I waited for several minutes (15 perhaps), without any GUI showing up and while output.txt was growing to 387 MB and upwards: du output.txt -h 387Moutput.txt I tried killing winerubyroom with ctrl-c and ctrl-\, but it didn't respond, so I tried "pkill wine". This didn't work either, but good old "pkill -9 wine" made it stop. The 20 first lines in output.txt were (head -20 output.txt): trace:relay:load_list L"RelayExclude" = L"ntdll.RtlEnterCriticalSection;ntdll.RtlLeaveCriticalSection;kernel32.94;kernel32.95;kernel32.96;kernel32.97;kernel32.98" trace:relay:load_list L"RelayFromExclude" = L"winex11.drv;user32;gdi32;advapi32;kernel32" 0009:Call KERNEL32.__wine_kernel_init() ret=7bc47de8 trace:relay:load_list L"RelayExclude" = L"ntdll.RtlEnterCriticalSection;ntdll.RtlLeaveCriticalSection;kernel32.94;kernel32.95;kernel32.96;kernel32.97;kernel32.98" trace:relay:load_list L"RelayFromExclude" = L"winex11.drv;user32;gdi32;advapi32;kernel32" 000b:Call KERNEL32.__wine_kernel_init() ret=7bc47de8 000b:Call PE DLL (proc=0x7bc76620,module=0x7bc1 L"ntdll.dll",reason=PROCESS_ATTACH,res=0x1) 000b:Ret PE DLL (proc=0x7bc76620,module=0x7bc100
