[Bug 1570278] Re: please update Xenial to webkitgtk 2.4.11

2016-04-14 Thread Andrew Ross
Can I second that request. Since the security upgrade to 2.4.10
evolution has been regularly crashing. dmesg shows a "general
protection" error in libwebkitgtk-3.0 which I am assuming is related to
this bug. The bug is making evolution almost unuseable at the moment.

Note that the problem is fixed in the latest Debian version, 2.2-4, so
it's probably best to just update to that if possible.

This installation isn't using Netbeans as packaged in Ubuntu, so the
problem presumably lies in the JVM being used to launch it.

[Bug 1047080] [NEW] Jar names differ between Debian and Ubuntu builds

2012-09-06 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

The change made in patch ubuntu1 which alters the jar name in
/usr/share/java means that the jar has a different name in Ubuntu from
that in Debian. This makes some packages which build in Debian fail to
build in Ubuntu. It would be good for the Ubutu package to install the
jars as before, but include additional symlinks to achieve backwards
compatibility with the previous versions in Ubuntu.

The relevant changelog is:

geronimo-jms-1.1-spec (1.1-1.2ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian testing.
  * d/rules: Add --usj-name=geronimo-jms-1.1-spec to ensure consistent jar
naming with previous versions.

[Bug 1038433] [NEW] Sync libpgjava 9.1-901-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2012-08-18 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

Please sync libpgjava 9.1-901-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * debian/control: Add back libpg-java as a transitional package. The
previous sync dropped it, but there are still a number of reverse
dependencies. (See LP #985940)

This change has been integrated into the Debian package.

Changelog entries since current quantal version 9.1-901-1ubuntu1:

libpgjava (9.1-901-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Provide transitional package libpg-java (closes: #659324)
  * Bump standards version to 3.9.3 (no changes).

[Bug 899942] [NEW] Jar files installed incorrectly

2011-12-04 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

/usr/share/java/ini4j-0.5.2-SNAPSHOT.jar -
/usr/share/java/ini4j-0.5.2-SNAPSHOT-0.5.2.jar

/usr/share/java/ini4j-0.5.2-SNAPSHOT.jar
/usr/share/java/ini4j.jar - ini4j-0.5.2-SNAPSHOT.jar

[Bug 894113] Re: FTBFS in precise

2011-11-29 Thread Andrew Ross
Did you get any further with this? I've started looking at the issue in
Debian.

For the windows launcher builds I'm going to update the build lines to the
following:
cd o.n.bootstrap/launcher/windows LDFLAGS= make .build-impl nbexec.exe
cd apisupport.harness/windows-launcher-src LDFLAGS= make

Can you please confirm that fixes that part of the problem in Precise?

For the osgi-core issue I think we'll need to patch in Debian, since it's not
something I think we'd be able to get changed upstream.

[Bug 814819] Re: Update to antlr3 version 3.2

2011-08-09 Thread Andrew Ross
Is there a decision on this? It seems like it would be good to test it
sooner rather than later.

The only other option I can think of that's not been discussed is to
create an antlr3.0 package which provides antlr3 and have the new
package in main and the normal antlr3 in universe.

[Bug 816556] [NEW] pbuilder leaves $DISPLAY set

2011-07-26 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

pbuilder leaves $DISPLAY set in the chroot environment, so builds think
they can connect to the server. This causes failures in some builds, for
example bsaf 1.9-3 (see bug #815483). It should be unset, so that it
matches build servers.

Tested on lucid with version 0.199+nmu3ubuntu1

Sure - demoting to universe would be the best option as then the Debian

$DISPLAY shouldn't be set in your builder (if it were set then you ought
to be able to connect to it I guess). This test is skipped if $DISPLAY

[Bug 801280] Re: movie info does not download from source(s)

2011-06-24 Thread Andrew Ross
OK, it seems like you've still got an old version of the GCImdb.pl file.
The md5sum of the correct version is c36b3331d01eea17ee85a5ee624ae852

If you've got the PPA working properly then you should have version
1.6.1ubuntu2 installed. Alternatively you can get the deb from here:
https://launchpad.net/~gcstar/+archive/gcstar-
dev/+files/gcstar_1.6.1ubuntu2_all.deb and install with sudo dpkg -i
gcstar_1.6.1ubuntu2_all.deb

It might be worth completely removing the version you currently have
installed first and making sure the
/usr/share/gcstar/lib/GCPlugins/GCfilms/GCImdb.pm file is completely
removed.

Thanks,
Andy

The problem appears to be fixed in the version in the GCStar PPA which you can

Please could you try this version and confirm if it fixes your problem?

[Bug 796152] [NEW] Sync libmiglayout-java 3.7.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-06-12 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

Please sync libmiglayout-java 3.7.4-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu patch was to allow a change to libswt-gtk-3.6-java. Debian is also
making that change and the package now builds using libswt-gtk-3.6-java instead
of libswt-gtk-3.5-java. Therefore the ubuntu patch is no longer required.

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 3.7.2-1ubuntu1:

libmiglayout-java (3.7.4-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Replace libswt-gtk-3.5-java with libswt-gtk-3.6-java (Closes: #629721)
  * Bumped standards version to 3.9.2 (no changes)
  * Drop dependency on jre.
  * Added debian/source/format file
  * Removed reference to /usr/share/common-licenses/BSD as it is no
longer included.

[Bug 681078] [NEW] Not all jar files built

2010-11-24 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

This package does not get automatically updated from Debian because of a
version numbering issue: Ubuntu used to have version 1.7.dfsg, and now
has 1.7.ubuntu, both of which are newer than Debian's 1.7. The content
of Debian's upstream source matches that of the ubuntu 1.7.ubuntu
source.

The current version in Ubuntu is based on Debian version 1.7-4. Debian
is now at version 1.7-6 (see
http://packages.qa.debian.org/b/batik.html). I suggest another manual
sync, and hope that eventually Batik 1.8 gets released at which point
this problem goes away.

I'm happy to prepare the new package if someone can upload it for me.

[Bug 635840] Re: plplot fails to build on maverick

2010-09-27 Thread Andrew Ross
I believe this is actually a bug in the gcc-4.4 packages. After much
debugging in turns out that the search path in gcc version
4.4.4-14ubuntu4 includes an extra leading slash, and so the path to
system headers comes out as something like //usr/include/stdio.h rather
than /usr/include/stdio.h. This confuses the matwrap perl script in
plplot which generates the octave bindings. It tries to filter out
system headers, but fails in this case. I can bodge this in plplot by
modifying the matwrap script to add //usr/include as well for all
occurences of /usr/include, but I think the proper solution is to fix
the gcc standard search paths.

[Bug 649074] Re: feature detection of paralllel HDF5 unreliable?

2010-09-27 Thread Andrew Ross
The plplot build makes absolutely no use of hdf so whether the serial or
parallel version is installed should be irrelevant. All plplot does is
include oct.h. If the build of plplot fails in this manner then it
sounds like an octave header bug and not a plplot bug to me.

[Bug 501972] Re: messages stored but not displayed

2010-01-14 Thread Andrew Ross
I have the exact same problem as described above.
Am using jaunty with what I assume is the latest version of evolution (I just
ran sudo apt-get update and installed all of the software updates that came up
on the software updater)
Messages show up in the .evolution//inbox file if I open it with a text
editor but are not visible in the inbox folder of the evolution client.

Now I'm willing to bet that this problem is a lot more wide-spread than being
reported here, I've been using evolution for a couple of years now and it never
occurred to me to check if I was loosing messages until recently because I
was expecting some rather important news. Had I not thought of using my ISP's
web mail client I would never have noticed that messages were getting to their
server, then being retrieved/deleted (that's how I set my evolution client) but
not showing up in my evolution inbox.
Folks, even if I'm wrong and this is not a widespread problem, this is not a
low importance issue, think of the potential consequences for people, missing
notices from banks, medical institutions, etc.

As an added note, after futzing around, turning all of my filters on and off,
and hiding and un-hiding all my inbox messages an well as all my deleted
messages and changing settings to leave retrieved message in the server, the
missing messages suddenly appeared in my junk folder, but not highlighted as
un-read!
Is it possible for messages to be stored in the .evolution//inbox file, yet
show up in the junk folder?

[Bug 504216] Re: `plplot_octave' undefined

2010-01-08 Thread Andrew Ross
As the Debian maintainer for this package I don't know what has happened
with the build on Ubuntu. I can confirm that rebuilding from source
solves the problem for me too, so I suspect it was a problem with octave
being updated after plplot had been build. plplot_octave is definitely
in the path, but just not recognised.

[Bug 470160] Re: Karmic 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu: Palm Treo 680 reboots right after plugging it to USB port

2009-12-01 Thread Andrew Ross
I have the same reboot problem on my Treo 755p and 9.04. I installed visor to
get the gnome sync to work, as directed on the Ubuntu Palm setup page.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PalmDeviceSetup
Right now gnome-pilot is locked up on my desktop.

[Bug 421673] Re: modem-manager tries to probe, crashes PalmOS handhelds

2009-12-01 Thread Andrew Ross
You guys rock! Confirmed...Uninstalled modemmanager via Package mgr and
my Treo 755p quit rebooting, and all looks good in Evolution calendar,
address, memos. Per other instructions, I did put visor in modules,
and a couple other things. However, nothing worked until I uninstalled
modemmanager. I hope this does not affect any other functionality.
Thanks!

Re: [Bug 188972] Re: mic not working on dell vostro 1310 1400 with hda intel (gutsy and hardy)

2009-10-08 Thread Andrew Ross
We figured this out and got it working on a Dell Vostro 1520 by pulling the
latest alsa code from svn.

We got it going for a Dell Inspiron 15 with a slightly different
technique.

When we get a sec, we'll update the ticket with more information.

2009/10/8 Andrew Hawkins a.hawkins...@gmail.com

This is still a problem in Karmic. I get very a very weak signal from
the internal mic on my Dell 1420 with a SigmaTel STAC9228 sound card and
no signal at all from a line-in microphone. Changing the setting in
sound preferences or alsamixer does nothing at all.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: linux-backports-modules-hardy-generic

I've got a Dell Vostro 1400 with a hda intel sound card. I've had a cupple
of problems with the sound, but they got (more or less) sorted out. But the
mic has never been working, neither the built-in nor an external one.

I had gutsy installed and now I changed it to the alpha-release of hardy,
but nothing has changed regarding the function of the mic. On my machine I
had running 2.6.22-14, 2.6.24-3, 2.6.24-4 and 2.6.24-5, but it seemed to
 make no difference.

I could not find any report how to fix it neither in the ubuntu forums nor
in the Dell forums, so I'm trying it here.

[Bug 188972] Re: mic not working on dell vostro 1310 1400 with hda intel (gutsy and hardy)

2009-07-30 Thread Andrew Ross
I observed something interesting. When I hooked up my wireless mic and
cranked down the signal to -30db, the sound was not bad - no noise and
quite clear.

It would clip the audio if I spoke loudly. If I adjusted the mic level
down in the gnome desktop mixer app, it would get quieter but still clip
at the same speaking volume.

Thus, there seems to be something limiting the input dramatically. I'm
wondering - perhaps the jack is set to be a line in rather than a
microphone? I don't see any option to adjust this but I will experiment
and keep researching to see. If anyone has any helpful information, I'd
welcome it. Thank you.

For reference, this is my card (on my Dell Vostro 1520):
lspci | grep Audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 03)

[Bug 188972] Re: mic not working on dell vostro 1310 1400 with hda intel (gutsy and hardy)

2009-07-29 Thread Andrew Ross
I have a Dell Vostro 1520 running a patch current Jaunty (9.04) and I
have the same/very similar symptoms as reported in this bug.

In my case, the laptop speakers work great. The earphone jack works
great. The microphone jack does not work - I get an enormous amount of
noise making whatever is recorded barely audible.

Should I open a new ticket, or add data to this one? Very happy to add
the data from alsa-info.sh if that helps. Thank you kindly.

[Bug 338955] [NEW] Negative total file size displayed

2009-03-06 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aria

When downloading an iso of the Fedora 11 i386 alpha, Aria shows a
negative file size. The percentage remaining works OK (see screenshot)
so I believe the number is stored correctly internally. Could this be an
unsigned vs signed int bug?

[Bug 295251] Re: Samsung NC10 brightness keys block keyboard and produce all-or-nothing effect

2008-12-17 Thread Andrew Ross
There is an additional problem, that the keys don't produce release
events. This is fixed by a kernel patch - see
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12021

The kernel team should probably take a look at this - once the release
event is in place then there are a number of easy ways to assign the
hotkeys. The hotkey-setup package is one option, but the HAL option is
probably better.

[Bug 219282] [NEW] itcl3-dev: Can't find a usable itcl.tcl

2008-04-18 Thread Andrew Ross
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: itcl3-dev

Release: 8.04
Package: itcl3-dev
Version: 3.2.1-3.1

Programs using itcl fail with the error message

application-specific initialization failed: Can't find a usable itcl.tcl in the
following directories:
/usr/share/tcltk/itcl3.2
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../lib/itcl3.2
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../itcl/library
/home/andrew/software/plplot/build/examples/../utils/../../../itcl/library
This probably means that Itcl/Tcl weren't installed properly.
If you know where the Itcl library directory was installed,
you can set the environment variable ITCL_LIBRARY to point
to the library directory.

The problem is that itcl.tcl is not installed in the location that itcl
expects to find it in. It is actually in /usr/lib/itcl3.2/ .

I discovered this testing the plplot tcl examples (package plplot-tcl-
dev). This bug is identical to Debian bug #349302 http://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349302 and was fixed in Debian itcl3-dev
version 3.2.1-4. Ubuntu Hardy Heron currently contains version itcl3-dev
version 3.2.1-3.1.
