[Bug 148704] Firefox does not start when visual effects are set to none

2007-10-03 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When I install Ubuntu 7.10, install all the updates and start Firefox it
will run fine.

Now when I go to
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects
And select : none

I can no longer start firefox, it only shows up for a moment in Gnome-panel-
'Starting ' then the button disappears from panel and nothing happens.

When I select Normal for visual effects, it works again... I am able to start
open office, geany, kompozer or whatever when the effects are set to none.

I am using the beta version of 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) with all the updates
installed
at this time. Also have this problem with fresh firefox (no add ons or whatever)

2007-10-03 Thread Barry de Graaff
tried to reproduce this on 32bit machine, it is an annoying script but it uses
250MB of ram
and then everything remains stable.

Maybe it has something to do with the amount of ram firefox can use that
is set in about:config

[Bug 164325] Matrix screensaver crashes when ESC pressed

2007-11-21 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cmatrix

The Matrix View (package cmatrix) screensaver crashes the system when I press
ESC button.

Steps to reproduce:
Lock computer with ALT+L,
and have configured that cmatrix is the system screensaver.
Press ESC one or two times reproduces every time.

---

I also have my PC set up, that it locks when inactive, I also noticed that
when I select RANDOM screensavers, the systemis frozen from time to time
when I come back and try to unlock.

No CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE or CTRL-ALT-F1 response...

But since it happens in random mode- I have not found out
which screensaver is responsable for this.

Workaround- use blank-screen as 'screensaver'.

[Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-01-09 Thread Barry de Graaff
Hello Luis,

I just tested Brasero with gstreamer-fluendo-mp3 on Hardy Alpha 2,
Steps: Create new audio compilation-> then I add a mixture of
MP3 and OGG files..

When I add them to the compilation Brasero obviously tries to
save them in some sort of wav format for the burn. But some files
juest keep saying: loading... and the ' hourglass' mouse poimnter
stays.

When I push the burn button it will say "Please wait, some tasks are
not completed." This takes more then 5-10 minutes. Waiting any longer
is useless since in k3b the CD would have been ready.

This can be a codec issue, although if it is, it should be adressed if more
people are having this. (Since ubuntu is not for power users) or something
else. But it does not say anything in the terminal beside:
I/O warning : failed to load external entity
"/home/ubuntu/.gnome2/brasero.session"
(on the live cd)

I am currently using k3b (since that added the option " number of copies"
before brasero did. And the above problem has been around for some time.)

Regards, Barry de Graaff

Re: [Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-01-16 Thread Barry de Graaff

Yes, I don't know if brasero does anything fancy
with the hardware. As said I am running ubuntu i386
on an intel 64 bit system.

So that or the codec problem.

Maybe it's an idea to integrate a timer in Brasero that
show a dialog after an amount of time. Showing debug
info (last command runned etc). And a way to send it
back to devel... gives also an idea of the size of
the problem.

Because now it doesn't say anything... makes it hard to
debug if you don't have the time to run it from an IDE
GDB or something. (Which I don't know about, and lack
the time for)

Thanks anyway,

Regards, Barry

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, been busy lately. I just

then Brasero
does a directory search. It says something about padding short tracks- click a
couple of ten
times OK. Then the window gets grey. (unavailable and then:)

would also be nice if there was a friendly way to install gstreamer-fluendo-mp3
or something comparable. (Now have to enable a repository, reload and install
manually)

[Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-03-02 Thread Barry de Graaff
Hi Saïvann,

The original bug was that Brasero dialog said that the size is being
calculated. And that lasted forever. I haven't seen that problem anymore
in the last version. So I think that one is resolved.

So this morning I enabled gutsy backports (so not using the live CD
anymore) and tried to burn 15 MP3's to an audio CD. That worked without
a flaw. Still a bit slower than K3b. But no problems. Then I threw in
that directory I told you about yesterday. 51 burnable items. That
worked also...

So I think that is good news. Brasero is still a fine program for less-
geek users... I will install it this week for somebody.

So I think the bug of yesterday is only in the Live CD or in Hardy A5... I will
ask my colleague if we have a PC that can run the Alpha on a hard-drive.
But we are also testing some Debian stuff... so I don't know if we have
anything available.

Let me know if you wish to track the new bug in the live cd. Anyway I
find the original bug closed.

Well a few days ago I installed hardy on my laptop with dist-upgrade, that
did not solve the issue. (could still not switch consoles) Now this was not a

xserver-xorg-video-intel is not working in gutsy now.

On my desktop I am running gutsy with the
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb

It is complicated tough...

[Bug 182865] Re: [Gutsy backport] Cannot switch to console after installing "xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.1-0ubuntu9.1"

2008-03-20 Thread Barry de Graaff
Good work Bryce, thanks for biting in this bug so much. (It really
bugged me)

I just installed the xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb on
gutsy and
now I am able to switch consoles again. So this last version does NOT have the
bug. The
question is, what have we disabled?

(as is this deb file cannot be installed in hardy)

Adios Barry

2008-03-20 Thread Barry de Graaff
Well a few days ago I installed hardy on my laptop with dist-upgrade, that
did not solve the issue. (could still not switch consoles) Now this was not a
fresh install, but it has the new xserver-xorg installed. So for me
xserver-xorg-video-intel is not working in gutsy now.

On my desktop I am running gutsy with the
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb
and that is working fine.

It is complicated tough...

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, been busy lately. I just

times OK. Then the window gets grey. (unavailable and then:)

or something comparable.

Re: [Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-01-16 Thread Barry de Graaff

Yes, I don't know if brasero does anything fancy
with the hardware. As said I am running ubuntu i386
on an intel 64 bit system.

So that or the codec problem.

Maybe it's an idea to integrate a timer in Brasero that
show a dialog after an amount of time. Showing debug
info (last command runned etc). And a way to send it
back to devel... gives also an idea of the size of
the problem.

Because now it doesn't say anything... makes it hard to
debug if you don't have the time to run it from an IDE
GDB or something. (Which I don't know about, and lack
the time for)

Thanks anyway,

Regards, Barry

[Bug 197291] [NEW] tty broken after last update of xserver-xorg-video-intel

2008-03-01 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After the last update of xserver-xorg-video-intel my tty0-6 is broken. Adding
option vga= in grub, enabling/disabling frame buffer
did not do anything. Neither did dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. Or reinstall
the intel driver with aptitude.

When I select vesa driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf the tty's come back.

[Bug 134061] Re: brasero hangs on calculating size when burning audio

2008-03-01 Thread Barry de Graaff

Hello Saïvann,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, been busy lately. I just
downloaded the Alpha 5 live cd
and tried to reproduce, bad news again Brasero is not working correctly.

I select a folder on my desktop and add that folder to a new audio compilation,
then Brasero
does a directory search. It says something about padding short tracks- click a
couple of ten
times OK. Then the window gets grey. (unavailable and then:)

I don' t know what you' re role is in the development of Brasero, but it
would also be nice if there was a friendly way to install gstreamer-fluendo-mp3
or something comparable. (Now have to enable a repository, reload and install
manually)

Cheers Barry

2007-12-31 Thread Barry de Graaff

The problem occurred on 7.10 (Gutsy), a 32 bit install on a 64 bit machine...
I will try to reproduce this on Hardy Alpha 2. But give me a week or so,
since it's holidays etc.

[Bug 148704] Firefox does not start when visual effects are set to none

2007-10-03 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When I install Ubuntu 7.10, install all the updates and start Firefox it
will run fine.

Now when I go to
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects

Also have this problem with fresh firefox (no add ons or whatever)

did not solve the issue. (could still not switch consoles) Now this was not a

xserver-xorg-video-intel is not working in gutsy now.

Good work Bryce, thanks for biting in this bug so much. (It really
bugged me)

I just installed the xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb on
gutsy and
now I am able to switch consoles again. So this last version does NOT have the
bug. The
question is, what have we disabled?

(as is this deb file cannot be installed in hardy)

Adios Barry

2008-03-20 Thread Barry de Graaff
Well a few days ago I installed hardy on my laptop with dist-upgrade, that
did not solve the issue. (could still not switch consoles) Now this was not a
fresh install, but it has the new xserver-xorg installed. So for me
xserver-xorg-video-intel is not working in gutsy now.

On my desktop I am running gutsy with the
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.1.1-0ubuntu9.2~bwh1_i386.deb
and that is working fine.

It is complicated tough...

[Bug 148704] Firefox does not start when visual effects are set to none

2007-10-03 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When I install Ubuntu 7.10, install all the updates and start Firefox it
will run fine.

Now when I go to
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects

Also have this problem with fresh firefox (no add ons or whatever)

would also be nice if there was a friendly way to install gstreamer-fluendo-mp3
or something comparable.

[Bug 148704] Firefox does not start when visual effects are set to none

2007-10-03 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Hello,

When I install Ubuntu 7.10, install all the updates and start Firefox it
will run fine.

Now when I go to
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects

[Bug 145613] Re: this website causes firefox to keep taking memory

2007-12-31 Thread Barry de Graaff

The problem occurred on 7.10 (Gutsy), a 32 bit install on a 64 bit machine...
I will try to reproduce this on Hardy Alpha 2. But give me a week or so,
since it's holidays etc.

Happy New Year 2008

2007-11-01 Thread Barry de Graaff
I am having exactly the same problem as described. Eats a bit more processor
load-
and keeps filling memory. I killed it beyond 1GB of memory use.

It is not really hanging, in that you can cancel the operation

[Bug 197291] [NEW] tty broken after last update of xserver-xorg-video-intel

2008-03-01 Thread Barry de Graaff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After the last update of xserver-xorg-video-intel my tty0-6 is broken. Adding
option vga= in grub, enabling/disabling frame buffer
did not do anything. Neither did dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. Or reinstall
the intel driver with aptitude.

When I select vesa driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf the tty's come back.
