[Bug 595138] Re: Settings in /etc/hdparm.conf are not applied during boot
I fixed this by using this patch (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/73763550/hdparm-functions.patch) that translates (unlinks) HDD path symlink inside /etc/hdparm.conf to /dev/sdX but I also had to create this patch to the /lib/udev/hdparm, because I had to: 1) convert (readlink) DEVNAME input parameter to hdparm_options function in '/lib/hdparm/hdparm-functions' - this fixes issue when as input to /lib/udev/hdparm someone puts symlink 2) trim the trailing digits from the DEVNAME, because the udev rule puts disk device as well as partitions as input into the /lib/udev/hdparm Example scenario I had: 1) udev rule runs /lib/udev/hdparm and passes /dev/sda1 as DEVNAME => outcome was that /dev/sda1 was not in /etc/hdparm.conf which made it apply DEFAULT settings 2) udev rule runs /lib/udev/hdparm and passes /dev/sda as DEVNAME => outcome was that /dev/sda was in /etc/hdparm.conf which made it apply CORRECT settings 3) udev rule runs /lib/udev/hdparm and passes /dev/sda2 as DEVNAME => outcome was that /dev/sda2 was not in /etc/hdparm.conf which made it apply DEFAULT settings All in all, for me, between reboots, the order was random. Sometimes the disk came last and applied correct settings and sometimes partition came into play and was overwriting the /etc/hdparm.conf with the DEFAULTS ** Patch added: "hdparm.patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hdparm/+bug/595138/+attachment/5047121/+files/hdparm.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595138 Title: Settings in /etc/hdparm.conf are not applied during boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hdparm/+bug/595138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 880485] Re: System hangs at startup when battery reported as "low"
The bug exists in RC mainline kernel. Holding shift/pressing ESC didn't bring the grub menu, so the bug is either not in the kernel (grub? bootstrap?), or it prevents grub from even displaying kernel menu. For reasons I'd rather not disclose :) , I'm apparently running wrong arch (i386 while I should be running amd64), so I'll reinstall Ubuntu and see if the bug is reproductable on amd64 as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880485 Title: System hangs at startup when battery reported as "low" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/880485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 880485] Re: System hangs at startup when battery reported as "low"
OK, here's what I did. I have installed mainline kernel 3.1.0-030100rc10-generic #201110200610 SMP . After reboot, I was not presented with usual grub menu with installed kernerls to choose, instead system hung. Another reboot didn't change anything. After replugging the netbook while hung and hard restart, the system didn't start either (symptoms identical as above - blank screen). Then I have powered off the netbook, unplugged it, plugged again, powered on and it started OK, again no grub menu. Yet, the system started with new kernel. I have unplugged the netbook and restarted the system, and it booted again ok, with new kernel. I did it twice on battery and now it starts ok, I'm unable to reproduce the bug. I'll try to charge the battery, then drain it until battery icon turns red again and then see if I'm able to reproduce the bug. I did try to upload that nifty report attachments with apport-collect, but I'm not sure if it worked.

[Bug 710744] Re: after installing PAE kernel NVIDIA driver does not work - no GUI
BTW, for anyone who is interested in getting this to work: (quoting solution from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1741754) "[The] problem is that you have the nvidia driver installed as a deb package but not the driver itself, for which you need the kernel headers. Install the package kernel-headers-blabla corresponding to your current kernel (see uname -a). Then do install --reinstall of the nvidia package or install --reinstall of the linux kernel - this will force the creation of the nvidia kernel module. Reboot. [Bug 666014] [NEW] Avahi service for squid-deb-proxy does not start
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: squid-deb-proxy Here's the summary of the problem after system startup: % sudo service squid-deb-proxy status squid-deb-proxy start/running, process 1297 % sudo service squid-deb-proxy-avahi status squid-deb-proxy-avahi stop/waiting As we see the squid-deb-proxy avahi advertiser does not start and no machine can see we have a deb proxy around. Both dependencies (avahi and squid-deb-proxy services) are running in my case. If I do 'service squid-deb-proxy-avahi start' it goes up without a problem... I have worked around it so the upstart script starts the advertising without squid going up but this is not a solution obviously. I've tried to check what could be wrong with the upstart script but there does not appear to be any good documentation or manual for upstart scripting... thus I have no clue why the script fails to start squid-deb-proxy-avahi... [Bug 633255] [NEW] gnome volume control applet does not update hardawre volume if starting from mute

This is very annoying because one will instinctively move the slider further and further and upon release be greeted with really loud sound. When the volume level is anything other than 0% it updates in real time. My guess is that the "unmute" event is linked to the button release event on the slider.
