[Bug 1581708] [NEW] weather applet does not convert untis for feels like in popup window

2016-05-13 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce from a location that supports the yahoo weather api add the
weather applet to lxpanel. Now on the weather applet right click weather
plugin settings and choose celcius for the unit of temperature. Then
click ok. Then left click on the weather plugin and on the popup window
read the feels like line with the temperture in farinheight with a C on
the end.

lxpanel:
  Installed: 0.8.2-1ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.8.2-1ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.2-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages

Description:Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Release:16.04

I expected the feels like part of the weather to change to degrees
celcius with the window open. Instead it showed feels like in celcius
which would be way too hot to be comfortable and would feel much hotter
than being surroned by air the temperuture of my cpu heatsink as shown
in the screenshot.

[Bug 1534798] Re: lxsession-logout doest not always work

2016-05-13 Thread Brendan Perrine
I understand Daro is trying to help but I am having a bit of trouble
with what he is reporting and might have seen two ways to interpret this
which might be causing confusion and preventing this from being fixed.
Misinterpreting bug reports is frustrating for the triagers as well.

1. can only get one lxsession-logout window open? Because I can open an
lxsession logout window switch to another virtual workspace and then
continue using everything but can't open up another lxsessoin logout
instance then. The upstream gtk2 lxde has been adding these behind the
scense as having two windows open like this would end up using more
memory which is a problem on older hardware. I read through the
changelog of lxsession and I get that it now requires a library for
making unique applications. This I think might be close to the intended
behavior as you are not supposed to be able to launch more than one as
it would take much ram on a lot of the older systems and does running
two logout dialgos serve any practical purpose other than just messing
around. Making this not a singleton application would however make more
ram hungry and if it caused the computers to swap and run slowly which
is part of the reason lxde got developed.

2. Do you try to launch lxsession-logout once and say logout or switch
user log back in again and then can't logout. If so that is a more
serious problem. And would definetly be a bug that needs to be fixed.

[Bug 1504682] Re: hardinfo does not show type of new interfaces as ethernet

I can still reproduce this if my ethernet nic is not named the way it
was in 15.04 and earlier with say eth 0, eth1 and instead ens3 or
enp0s25 So this can be a likely suspect of being mistakenly marked fix
released.

This does not affect the entire disk for the lubuntu alternate installer

continues on with the install. Ubiquity has no prompt for this. This was

2016-03-15 Thread Brendan Perrine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can
start working on this bug.

I have the question does this happen in flavors of ubuntu other than lubuntu?
You do have nice steps to reproduce but having lxpanel be the cause seems
unlikely. This could be a deeper problem with mdadm and f2fs and marking it as
affecting thouse would make it more likely to be seen by a developer who fixes
this problem.

  * src/etc/xdg/pcmanfm/lubuntu/desktop-items-0.conf
  * src/etc/xdg/pcmanfm/lubuntu/pcmanfm.conf
   - Update some pcmanfm default settings and activate mounted devices on the

  * debian/control:

[Bug 1553401] [NEW] manpage for ubiquity claims escalate privileges for itself using gksudo, kdesu, kdesudo, or sudo but recent versions escalte privlege with policykit

2016-03-04 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce read the manpage for ubiquity and in the second sentence
for description I read It is normally invoked from a desktop icon, and
presents a "wizard"-style graphical user interface. ubiquity must be
run as root, and will escalate privileges for itself using gksudo,
kdesu, kdesudo, or sudo as appropriate. Then since lxqt-sudo is a new
way to run GUI programs as root for lxqt in the archives since 16.04 and
planned to be shipped with lubuntu 16.10 if ubiquity would need changes
to use this. I ended up coming to the conclusion this information is
outdated after a long search through the ubiquity code base that this
one mention seemed to be left in even though ubiquity uses policykit now
so future lubuntu isos need only to have policykit working which could
be nicer but if this was in the manpage I could have improved ubuntu in
other ways than looking through ubiquity source to try to see if lxqt-
sudo could be added. This could be a simple fix but other parts of the
manpage might need to be updated as well.

[Bug 945260] Re: lxpanel Needs Memory Meter

I think resource monitors does more what you want. for ram. It also
launches lxtask by default. But if you want to show cache or more
advanced features on a system with low ram easy workaround would be
resource indicators to launch the htop as the additonal refrences does
this solve your problem?

[Bug 880138] Re: Lubuntu, cannot add application to the Launcher

2016-03-03 Thread Brendan Perrine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1551446] [NEW] xenial amd64 dialy boots to black wallpaper in live session.

2016-02-29 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

to reproduce boot the dialy iso of lubuntu xenial from Feburary 28th or
later and boot into a live session or a new install. Note dist upgrading
on a previous install will not work as config files in your home folder
for an already existing user will use that wallpaper as that is intended
behavior but that is not what is broken. These images have

lubuntu-artwork:

  Version table:
 *** 0.60 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

on these iso and boots to a black backgruodn when on fresh install or a
new install.

I expected the last stable release wallpaper to appear at least until
the wallpaepr for 16;04 was ready and put in the correct way to start in
live session as I like the team work but don't want to miss them by
default. Instead I got a black wallpaper instead when I booted the live
session. pcmanfm is loading the desktop backgroudn with the lubuntu
desktop so it is not pcmanfm part but rather maybe the file it is
poining to.

[Bug 1548016] [NEW] pcmanfm right click empty space shows broken inversert selection in context menu

2016-02-20 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce make sure that you are not using the openbox menu when
using the second mouse click to bring up a menu on the desktop. To do
this run pcmanfm --desktop-pref make the box for show menus provided by
window managers when desktop is clicked is not selected. The right click
on an empty part of the desktop with no icon when pcmanfm is used to
draw the desktop.

I have found this on lubuntu xenial. I did not really expect this to be
an option or for it to exist anyway. I mean the only real way for
inverse selection. However this would basically become a redunandt
version of the select all button if it did work. So does this need

I think you might be misreading the manpage for scrot. -e is for
exectuing things on the screenshot you just took. So this is not a
problem with scrot.

I think this command should do what you intended you will need to
installed the xdotool package. I would also use the xdotool
getmouseselectoin; scrot -s ; getmouseselectoin twice to get the

[Bug 1530397] [NEW] taskel on debian installer does not install all of lubuntu desktop.

2015-12-31 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce install a xenial lubuntu image with tasksel. Then try to
install and it will not issue an error but will boot without a splash
screen or a graphical lightdm greeter and levae you with a blank tty.
Which is not intended lubuntu behaivor. This did not install all of the
dependencies of lubuntu. However ubuntu-bug from the alternate installer
itself does not work.

This is with lubuntu xenial 1231 alternate amd 64 and had had problems
with other people on lubuntu QA team but no bug report yet. This is with
tasksel 3.34ubunbut2 on xenial on ubuntu 16.04

The installer will not warn the user anything is wrong then boot to a black
screen. but the user can only run in a tty. I also saved the debug logs from
debain installer right before I rebooted and have attahced them in a tar file.

I see the same thing in the file but this is a quite simple fix with a

[Bug 1517746] Re: Selecting and install software fails on ubnutu server xenial

2015-12-06 Thread Brendan Perrine
I tried the minimal testcase that only installs the ubuntu minimal
server in a kvm vm so this might not be the installer and select and
install software with the thing in ubuntu-standard. However since I
attached syslog that is what I thought the logs stated. Also the debian
installer alternate images for lubuntu are still working as well.

[Bug 1522625] [NEW] changing multiple desktop names only results in the first being changed.

2015-12-03 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce open obconf or openbox-configuration manager on the latest
xenial lubuntu install in the lxde menu and change two desktop names. I
expected both names to change after changing all of them instead only
the first changed and having openbox reload its configuration through
openbox --reconfigure or restarting openbox did not get the desktop name
to display correctly. To find this display it is best to change desktop
using control alt left control alt right. I got after changing to hug1
and hug2 that I got it to say hug1 but not hug2 but after I logout and
log back in to lightdm it goes away so this can be a workaround.

[Bug 1500533] Re: Ubuntu Mate Welcome can't install any software when OS installed without internet connection

2015-11-17 Thread Brendan Perrine
In ubuntu mate welcome there in the introduction setting there is a way
to launch the software updater. Why not for new users if it fails to
find packages on install 1, check internet connection then maybe have a
dialog to launch software updates to get the package list working which
software updater does internally. OR does this same behavior happen with
software updater as well?

[Bug 1504468] Re: compile error

2015-11-17 Thread Brendan Perrine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1516454] [NEW] gnumeric help about gnumeric liscense button does not work.

2015-11-15 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce launch gnumeric on 16.04 the current development release
and then in the menu help select about gnumeric. A fancy dialog with a
link to the gnumeric website appears and has a fancy animation of the
developer names. However at the bottom there is a button that says
liscense that I click on it and nothing happens.

This is in gnumeric 1.12.24 on lubuntu 16.10

I expected the liscense button to display the license of gnumeric.
Instead it seemed to have no visable effect to the user. I circled the
blank state in a screenshot in this about dialog and have attached a
screenshot where I circled the borken button in this about dialog.

[Bug 1515521] [NEW] during manual paritioning hitting cancel for physical volume for encrption does not allow you to press the install now button.

2015-11-12 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce install with manual partition create a new parition table
then create an xfs or ext4 / parition and a swap partition leaving some
free space and a drive to install the bootloader on. The install now
button shuld be eithere to be selected or clicked with the keyboard
Then in this free space click the plus button icon on ubuntu mate to add
a new partition and select physical volume for encrpytion. Read warning
about data loss. Click the cancel button. Try to select the install now
button after executing this and the user cannot. even though the
paritioning setup would install a valid paritioning setup.

I expected since a root partition and swap with some free space and a
bootloader is a system that should correctly install any ubuntu flavor
that this have the install now button work. Instead the button was not
selecteable after hitting the cancel button for physical volume for
encryption. IF I hit the change button to edit a partition I was
creating I would not have this problem.

[Bug 1512963] [NEW] settings allow arbitarly large user pictures which makes the user lock themselves out at lightdm.

2015-11-03 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce on a fresh install of ubuntu mate 16.04 start lightdm-gtk-
greeter-settings and authenticate to start editing lightdm settings.
Please do not try to reproduce this on a production machine as it will
involve locking yourself out of lightdm. In the settings for lightdm
GTK+ greeter settings select a really large image from a digial camera
or high resolution screenshot as your user image that is larger than
your screen resolution hit save and then log out. You will be taken to a
lightdm screen that has a user image so large you cannot login.

Description:Ubuntu Xenial Xerus (development branch)
Release:16.04
lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings:
  Installed: 1.2.0-0ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 1.2.0-0ubuntu1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I would expect the greeter to check that it would not set such redicolous file
sizes that block the user from logging in or at least provide a warning dialog
that this could make you unable to login similar to things that cause data loss
on a partition in ubuquity or gparted. As this prevents even loggin into guest
session graphically. I did manage to get back in editing
/etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf by hand with vim.

the theme was broken.

[Bug 1469362] Re: Desktop Switching is Allowed in the Installer [Lubuntu 14.04.2 LTS]

2015-09-26 Thread Brendan Perrine
** Description changed:

+ To reproduce boot a lubuntu desktop installer and select in Install lubuntu
on the menu. Then press a keyboard shortcut to switch to another workspace
which are documented on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Keyboard but
the user has no ui to switch back to the installer other than keyboard
shortcuts or mouse middle click over desktop. If we launch install from the
menu with one desktop or launch ubiquity so that it shows up on all desktop
which can be done in the opebox configuration file this could not lead to users
with no buttons and a blank desktop.
+
Sorry for posting in the wrong place.

I installed Lubuntu 14.04.2 from a USB flash drive. I skipped the "try
Lubuntu" option and went straight into the install process. After I set
everything up (wipe everything, 315 GB for the main mount point and 4 GB
for swap area), I let the computer idle. This was after I picked my
username and timezone and so on.

It continued the install for about five minutes, then turned off the
display as a kind of power saving feature. (It was on a laptop, but the
  laptop was plugged in.)

When I came back to check on it, I mashed a few keyboard buttons to wake
up the PC and activate the display again. This included some of the
arrow keys. Somehow I pressed a combination for switching the visible
desktop, because I then saw a window saying I was now on desktop 3. That
small window closed soon after, and I was left with just a mouse cursor
with the "loading" mouse cursor animation.

When the install was finished, Lubuntu popped up a window on desktop 3
(or wherever I was) and told me to restart. So the install still
  completed normally.

But I wonder if it's possible to use that same key combination and ruin
your chances of a successful install. What if you do it while Lubuntu
still needs to ask you questions?
