I can confirm the ctrl+ mousewheel alternate workaround works as well.
Sorry didn't try that.

[Bug 1383486] [NEW] menu to select zoom doesn't drop down

2014-10-20 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce open a pdf file in evince from pcmanfm or another file
manager. Then move the mouse to the upper right corner of the window
along the top bar. Then try to click on the arrow pointing down to drop
down the menu. The mouse pointer will click but no menu will drop down.
I can still edit the zoom by clickin in this bar but I cannoy select fit
page or fit width like I used to be able to in 14.04. I am using lxde as
my desktop environment with openbox as my window manager.

evince:
  Installed: 3.14.1-0ubuntu1

500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ utopic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Description:Ubuntu 14.10
Release:14.10
I expected a menu to be able to choose zoom instead I can only change zoom by
typing in the box.

Work around is to manually set a zoom by typing it in. This could lead
to some accessibility problems for people with low vision if they need
to zoom in on a pdf and don't know the workaround.

[Bug 1333013] Re: lxshortcut does not edit the desktop files on the live session.

2014-10-16 Thread Brendan Perrine
Biggest use is if you wanted to open something many times in the live
session but hopefully not forget to do it one time. Lubuntu has xterm
which has many options and not want to type an annoying command every
time they use the live session to have it set up right for them.

[Bug 1216788] Re: Files previously shown with a gear icon (like #!/usr/bin/python) are now shown as text files

2014-10-14 Thread Brendan Perrine
Also can you state what icon theme you are using. To find this out go to
the menu select prefrences and customize look and feel. If it says
lubuntu which is the default icon theme for lubuntu then lxde icon theme
is not the the right package.

If it says nuovext2.0 then lxde-icon-theme will be the correct pacakge.
I just installed lxde-icon-theme which is an updated version of
nuovext2.0 and it does look like python files.

In the window that shows your icon theme if you change it does this
problem go away. For me in utopic and the default lubuntu icon theme it
changes to a python logo.

[Bug 1378997] [NEW] lxsession-default-apps in utopic doesn't list terminals

2014-10-08 Thread Brendan Perrine

setting sakura as the default terminal works however but I want the drop down

[Bug 1333013] Re: lxshortcut does not edit the desktop files on the live session.

2014-10-06 Thread Brendan Perrine
Oh actually the overly verbose lxsession run.log came in some useful
data. Lxshortcut for a multiuser system puts a .desktop file in
~/usr/.local/applications/abiwor.desktop and creates a file if it does
not exist. If this file does not exist then lxshortcut creates the file
but not the directory.

In the live session the ~/usr/.local/applications is not an existing
directory in the live session.

I have found a workaround that is fairly easy in terminal cd
~/.local/share/ && mkdir applications. Then right click from the menu
and it will launch lxshorcut and create the file.

On real hardware I can get lxshortcur to launch from the terminal and

logout which would make even if this did work this feature pointless in

strace the panel not launching the menu or the launching lxshortcut from

[Bug 1377487] Re: testdrive fails to create a virtual disk when launched from command line

2014-10-04 Thread Brendan Perrine
I looked around some and found that kvm-img was an old utility that is
now deprecated. Workaround cd /usr/bin/ && sudo ln -s qemu-img kvm-img
to create a symbolic link. I am not really able to test this in 14.04 as
my trusty install does not have hardware support for virtualization but
if wanted may use a family members computer.

[Bug 1377487] Re: testdrive fails to create a virtual disk when launched from command line

2014-10-04 Thread Brendan Perrine
I think the problem might be in the testdrive-common package in the
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/testdrive/virt/kvm.py file where this
calls kvm-img when qemu-img is the command to create a disk image. I am
having trouble testing if this chage works getting testdrive to load the
new libraries so if someone could test this or see if this is what is
causing it would be nice.

[Bug 1377487] [NEW] testdrive fails to create a virtual disk when launched from command line

2014-10-04 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

I uncommented some lines in the testdrive config file to create a six GB
disk image that were in there to choose sizes. I also choose lubuntu as
a flavor. To reproduce launch testdrive --url
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/daily-live/20141003/utopic-desktop-
amd64.iso and then wait for image to download. Then QEMU will start up.
It says kvm-img

I expected testdrive to create a virtual disk. Instead test drive
launched but got to a screen where there was no disk to create but
listed a virtualdisk in the qemu vm with no media. I think the command
this supposed to launch might be qemu-create which creates a disk image
for a virtaul machine but this might get called by a dependency.

The command line output of testdrive is

2014-10-02 Thread Brendan Perrine
Also this does not seem to effect the guest session for openbox, but
does for lubuntu-netbook session making it more likely this truely is in
lxsession.

To reproduce in lubuntu-netbook select guest session as the user in
lightdm and in the top panel of lightdm click what by default looks like
the lxde logo and change to lubuntu netbook. Then the session logs in
and you recieve the error message.

[Bug 1376085] [NEW] clipit opens multiple tray icons with mistyped command

2014-09-30 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce have a system without clipit installed then install clipit
with apt-get. Pipe output to clipit with a command like apt-cache policy
testdrive |clipit. Then start the clipit indicator in the menu for lxde
under accessories. Click save history. Then mistype another command so it
is not found like lsb-relase -rd |clipit note the proper command is
lsb_release -rd |clipit. Two tray icons and indicators should appear in
the tray. If you keep doing this a third appears.

Yes I could after a lot of trying and clicking on the panel get it to
have the corrupt but closing the panel tooltips does fix this problem
you need ot make sure they are all closed. To reproduce you need to open
several panel tooltips to get it to do this.

Wierd thing happened in that reproting a bug to apport removed the
freeze as a workaround. I don't really know how to explain it as I do
not know the internals of apport that well.

[Bug 1370654] [NEW] touchpad and usb mouse freeze lxpanel in utopic

2014-09-17 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce use lxpanel in utopic and then have a usb mouse and a touchpad
both set on and set as left handed in lxinput. Then with the usb mouse use the
primary click on the menu then choose a category and a program and press the
secondary mouse button which should be left button on touchpad on the program
to bring up a context menu. Then move the cursor off the context menu and click
back on the panel. The menu should now be frozen and your keybindings should
not work but you should still be able to switch to a tty. Lxpanel versioin
installed 0.6.2-0ubuntu2 canidate 0.6.2-0ubuntu2 Relase is utopic amd64.
I expected to still be able to use the interface and have it not freeze.
Instead the interface froze.

I have also made sure that the new package does not break imap

sylpheed. I have set it up with using SSL both times and it seemed to
work but am not really qualified to test the encryption.

This seems to have returned to original behavior of before but itself is
an upstream after applying an update to xorg-server 1.15.1 with recent
updates. Which itself wasn't quite right but is now part of upstream
pcmanfm bug 633.

[Bug 1290101] Re: pcmanfm lost option to open current folder as root

2014-08-23 Thread Brendan Perrine
As the original reporter of this bug after seeing the change on the wiki
I have accepted this bugs state as invalid as I truly did not know about
that change and yet keep getting more comments that do not read the wiki
link in this bug report that mark it as invalid. I even went so far as
to file a bug against the testcase for pcmanfm and have the run as root
section removed. It was my mistake to not read the wiki I thought
reading the release notes on the lxde blog for pcmanfm 1.2.0 would be
enough at the time and were very detailed and long.

Also one other thing that shows the deliberate nature of removing the
run as root option is something I didn't notice before but there is a
notification if you do get it running as root is an exclamation mark
shows up on the buttons warning you you are root.

[Bug 1357846] [NEW] Manual partitioning fails in complex multiboot

2014-08-16 Thread Brendan Perrine
Public bug reported:

I was trying to install the AMD64 dialy build of today onto an external
hard drive. To reproduce have a external hard disk with first partition
NTFS used for storage and if I need to transfer something to someone
elses windows box and then have ubuntu 12.04 variant with openbox and an
ubuntu 14.04 with unity in an extended partion with the swap in the
middle and have an internal drive on laptop with lubuntu and manjaro on
it. Then I tried to get install with manual partition to delete an old
install of trusty that I was using when it was in development installed.
I then deleted tihs partition and tried to create a new / and /home
partition but got error message when continuing with the installation
that the partition does not line up and can lead to very poor
performance. I could not get tihs message to go away hit revert and the
partitioning and then it seems to keep going and going for a long time.

With my complex partition structure I tried to install then hit revert after
got error messages about partition alighnment recreate the partition to
automatically fix it and then could not get them to go away and hit revert.
I switched to see if any cpu resources were being used and top showed that
resize2fs was in a dormant state showing a D in top when I switched to a tty. I
then tried to launch apport as this is a bug as it is not an active process.
