[Bug 241781] Re: hp photosmart 7450 communication problems.
Same issue for me, also on photosmart 7450. I managed to get one test page out of the printer and that's it. What is happening is that the printer disappears from the usb channel. Why it does that I do not know but the computer really cannot communicate to the printer anymore when it is gone. I tried to plug it in on different usb ports but that does not resolve anything. One other strange thing is that it always says "Pen cleaning in progress" just after switching it on and that status message does not go away. Note that I did install new cartridges with all these issues and was able to get 1 test page out which printed nicely. Another thing is the cartridge for color always indicates as not installed althoug it is and with the test page, it used the colors. I kicked out Windows but a bit too soon I believe... [Bug 339563] Re: Unable to mount Canon cameras via USB (Jaunty)
I'd also like to see this bug fixed please. You can find my post on ubuntuforums http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1210248 A partial quote from the post: "When connecting my powershot A520 then Nautilus pops up with the following error message: -- The folder contents could not be displayed. In terms of importance, I'm not able to access my camera as a USB mass storage device. This means that whatever files I've placed on the card are not accessible anymore unless it is an image file or video. I do not have a card reader. [Bug 382703] Re: "Home Folder" has 3 different names
Just call it "My Files" or "My Data". The latter may sound too technical. That is what you are looking for. That is the root directory of where all your personal data is stored. There is nothing else there but files. My is a much shorter word for Personal. Personal is also more vague although everybody knows what personal means. Home has a lot of issues with translations and it does sound more like really home as in the beginning. To my feeling, a synonym for Home is Top in this case. It also feels more like how Home is used in a browser. A very broad term to say starting point. [Bug 129910] Re: tty[1-6] are active but display nothing in Gutsy
I also have a boot parameter vga=0x318 which worked on Feisty. Did my upgrade yesterday, kernel 2.6.22-24 came with the install and now I got a black screen as well. Due to the problems I isolated the parameters to just vga. For the record, I have an ATI radeon Mobility 9600 Tried the suggestion: > sudo vi /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and add fbcon and vesafb > sudo update-initramfs -u > sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer > change the line "blacklist vesafb" to "# blacklist vesafb" It ain't working. Only when vga=0x318 is removed, then I get my console output. Also, when started up in recovery mode, there is only one tty. When trying to switch I get a black screen with blinking cursor. In my opinion, this bug is not critical though it should be fixed before the release. People who play with their boot parameters know how to recover. This is not noob stuff. I'm not sure if my case is like Martin-Éric Racine with a crashing gdm but I'm experiencing what seems like a Xorg crash and might be related. X hangs, no ctrl-alt-backspace, no ctrl-alt-f2. Just a hard reboot works. [Bug 153591] Gutsy, metacity window borders gone
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz This one closed due to the person reinstalling Ubuntu https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/139624 I upgraded from Feisty, had problems with a locked up Xorg due to custom xorg.conf. Then I removed the xorg.conf and let Xorg do autodetection. This worked and I got into gnome. After logging in, the windows do not have borders. Running metacity --replace fixes this. I'm guessing that compiz tried to start with the emerald border decorator, as I had it setup in Feisty. Compiz fails, metacity runs again but maybe tries to run with emerald which does not work. [Bug 113319] Extend the debian packaging system to the concept of package groups
Public bug reported: The metapackages seem like an ugly way around system limitations. There's a need to ease the installation of a group of packages because they are tightly related to eachother eventhough they do not depend on eachother. For this, Ubuntu uses metapackages but it does make for a dependancy which should not be there in the first place. This dependancy poses problems when trying to uninstall one of the depending packages (it will claim that the metapackage needs to be uninstalled) and it poses problems when removing the metapackage, its dependancies can be uninstalled because they are not needed anymore which is not necessarily true. To solve it, the debian packaging system could be extended to allow the concept of package groups or true metapackages. They are regarded separatly from the real packages and real packages are not being linked as a dependancy. It will simply serve as a grouping. You can install a group and uninstall individual packages as if they were installed individually. As an extra, a user should be able to make his own groups and save this group to a file. This could be integrated with the backup tool. Currently the metapackage involves knowledge on how to create packages and this is not necessary for a normal user. For example, before upgrading his system he can make a backup of his installed packages as a group. If his installation gets broken and a clean install is necessary, he could just import his backed up package group and automatically all the software, that he installed before, gets installed. Second example, a guy is interested in starting webdevelopment and his friend has a webdevelopment package group available (contains HTML IDE - browser - developer browser plugin - java compiler - java ide - ...). This friend sends him the package group file and he can install the group without needing to search and mark each individual package. It is not the major goal but this could enhance community interaction. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Extend the debian packaging system to the concept of package groups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/113319 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
