[Bug 1884104] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 Server "Losing" IP4 address
Public bug reported: (Cannot figure out what package is causing this, so I'm filing it as a bug this way.) What version of Ubuntu? Ubuntu 20.04 LTS What I expected to happen? Normal behavior. What happened instead? I have several VMs running on a host, all running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. To prepare for an eventual 20.04 upgrade, I upgraded one guest to Ubuntu 20.04. Everything went smoothly, with no issues. The next day, however, I try to ssh into the guest, and it is not responding. I use virt-manager to show a console window to the guest directly. Everything seems fine, but when I do "ifconfig", there is no IPv4 address listed (the "inet" line is simply not there, and there is only an 'inet6' version left). I do an "ifdown eth0 && ifup eth0", and the IPv4 address is listed again. Just to see what's going on, I add the following line to cron: */5 * * * * (/bin/date && /sbin/ifconfig eth0) >> /home/webuser/log/ifconfig.output I check the output later on, and I see that the IPv4 address was being successfully returned by the ifconfig command, until the 9AM run of this cron command, and then, the IPv4 address is gone again. Any ideas? This behavior is only happening on the guest running 20.04 -- the 18.04 guests are unaffected. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: (Cannot figure out what package is causing this, so I'm filing it as a bug this way.) [Bug 1723105] [NEW] Upgrade to 1.28-1ubuntu2.2 fails because postrm script is a directory containing kernel modules
Public bug reported: When trying to upgrade my Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS server using the command sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, the upgrade consistently failed while trying to upgrade libidn11 to version 1.28-1ubuntu2.2 with the following error message: unable to install (supposed) new info file `/var/lib/dpkg/tmp.ci/postrm': Is a directory I determined that instead of being a script, /var/lib/dpkg/info/libidn11:amd64.postrm was in fact a directory! It contained two kernel modules, llc.ko and llc2.lo. I will attach the two files. To get the package to install and the upgrade operation to proceed, I renamed /var/lib/dpkg/info/libidn11:amd64.postrm to /var/lib/dpkg/info/libidn11:amd64.postrm.bak, after which a renewed dist-upgrade proceeded without any warnings or errors. After the installation /var/lib/dpkg/info/libidn11:amd64.postrm once again existed, and is now a script, as expected. What gives? Is this a bug in either this or the previous version of libidn? Is it now correctly installed? Was I hacked (I get a bit nervous when executable files spontaneously appear in random places)? I scanned the two files with virustotal.com, and it found nothing, but I don't think that means much. Instead of showing the titlebar of the newly activated window, it shows the titlebar of the previously active window, greyed out. This is especially annoying if you want to then drag the window you thought you activated to another monitor or workspace, as it will instead drag the previously active window. It also prevents you from using the menubar of the newly activated window. Note that underneath the titlebar it does show the contents of the newly activated window, which also has the keyboard focus. Possibly relevant information: * I have three monitors * I have focus follows mouse enabled * I have the menubars of each window in their titlebars instead of at the top of the screen ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+15.10.20151202-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-30.36-generic 4.2.8-ckt3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-30-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: - NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 352.63 Sat Nov 7 21:25:42 PST 2015 - GCC version: gcc version 5.2.1 20151010 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-22ubuntu2) + NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 352.63 Sat Nov 7 21:25:42 PST 2015 + GCC version: gcc version 5.2.1 20151010 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-22ubuntu2) ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Mar 4 13:25:04 2016 DistUpgraded: 2016-01-10 13:44:13,528 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: wily DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: - Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device [1558:3537] -Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device [1558:3537] + Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device [1558:3537] + Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device [1558:3537] InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-07-31 (946 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130424) MachineType: Notebook W350STQ/W370ST PackageArchitecture: all ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.2.0-30-generic root=UUID=6ca812df-7fe0-490d-af8c-6cc9758c0d89 ro "acpi_osi=!Windows 2012" acpi_backlight=vendor quiet splash SourcePackage: compiz UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2016-01-10 (53 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 06/14/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 4.6.5 dmi.board.asset.tag: Tag 12345 dmi.board.name: W350STQ/W370ST dmi.board.vendor: Notebook dmi.board.version: Not Applicable dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 9 dmi.chassis.vendor: Notebook dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr4.6.5:bd06/14/2013:svnNotebook:pnW350STQ/W370ST:pvrNotApplicable:rvnNotebook:rnW350STQ/W370ST:rvrNotApplicable:cvnNotebook:ct9:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: W350STQ/W370ST dmi.product.version: Not Applicable dmi.sys.vendor: Notebook version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.2+15.10.20151202-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.64-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 11.0.2-1ubuntu4 version.nvidia-graphics-drivers: nvidia-graphics-drivers-* N/A version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.2-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0+git20150819-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20150808-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu3 xserver.bootTime: Fri Mar 4 12:24:04 2016 xserver.configfile: /etc/X11/xorg.conf xserver.errors: - + xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.17.2-1ubuntu9.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553172 Title: Wrong titlebar shown after switching full screen windows with task switcher To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1553172/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list

This bug is still alive and kicking. Trying to scan from the ADF of an Epson XP-810, via the network, hangs the scanner. It loads the document, but when it is about to start the actual scan, the Epson starts flashing all its lights and has to be turned off, and xsane reports: Error/Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O. This is still happening on 14.04. I too have multiple monitors, with the middle one being the main monitor. [Bug 1386186] Re: Screen locking issue - account with no password set
Been doing some more investigation on this problem. Looked in System Settings-Security Privacy and found on the Security tab that both Waking from suspend and Returning from blank screen were both checked, indicating password required in both cases. Unchecked both items and the problem has now gone away - functionality is now as expected. Not sure if these items were checked under 14.04 and just ignored when resuming from suspend or whether the upgrade to 14.10 actually set these items. [Bug 1387562] Re: Touchpad settings ignored
Been looking into this further and found that it only affected affected one account on the computer - the other accounts worked as expected. Eventually found that the impacted account had a syndaemon command running at Startup to disable the touchpad whilst typing, as this function didn't work in System Settings. However, the setting to Disable touchpad whilst typing was still set in System Settings. Turning off this setting seems to have cured the problem. Obviously the original bug that causes the Disable touchpad whilst typing system setting not to work still needs to be addressed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1387562 Title: Touchpad settings ignored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1387562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1327820] [NEW] Multi-monitor - Maximized Firefox windows cast shadows on adjacent monitors
Public bug reported: I don't know if this is a Firefox bug or a Compiz one. Feel free to reassign. What happens is that maximized Firefox windows with the keyboard focus cast shadows on windows on adjacent monitors on a multimonitor setup. It appears to happen only with Firefox, I will report if I see it happen with other programs. This is reported as fixed in bug #928807, so perhaps it wasn't (fully), or it has regressed. Or maybe this is an unrelated problem. I'm seeing it in Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit on a laptop with an NVidia GeForce GTX 765M. Attached is a screenshot showing the problem. I have three monitors, with the launcher placed on the middle one. The editor window is on my third monitor and as you can see Firefox is casting a shadow on it. [Bug 1232016] [NEW] Can't scan from Brother ADS-2100
Public bug reported: I'm trying to use my new Brother ADS-2100 double sides document scanner with ADF in Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit, but having no luck. Scanimage reports that it sees the scanner, but when I try to scan a page it says sane_start: Invalid argument. sane-find-scanner does not report seeing the scanner at all. Simple-scan sees the scanner, but gives an error message when I try to scan. I know the scanner works and the problem is not with the cable or something like that, because it works in Windows. I have also tried another USB cable. The output of scanimage -L is: device `brother4:bus2;dev1' is a Brother ADS-2100 USB scanner The output of sudo scanimage -L is the same (but it takes longer). I will attach the output of sane-find-scanner and sudo sane-find- scanner, but both report not finding *any* USB devices, which is strange, because doesn't scanimage also use libsane to find the scanner? lsusb does find the scanner: Bus 003 Device 021: ID 04f9:60a1 Brother Industries, Ltd It does not matter which USB port I use (I had it on a hub at first, but it doesn't work on two different USB ports on the machine itself either). Simple-scan does report seeing the scanner (as a Brother ADS-2100, which is correct), but when I try to scan something it works for a while and then gives a red error bar saying Failed to scan/Unable to start scan . I will attach screenshots and the output of simplescan --debug. I followed Brother's instructions and installed the brother4 driver using the deb from their website (http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_scn.html#brscan4_ads), as well as the deb they provide for setting the udev rules to allow scanning by regular users (http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1c.html#u13.04). I have already tried various potential solutions I found around the web: * adding lines to /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules or /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules * adding myself to the lp and scanner groups None of it seemed to make any difference, and also I think Brother's debs already take care of those things. In addition, if the problem was with device permissions, scanning would work as root, right? Please let me know what other information I can provide or things I can try to get to the bottom of this! [Bug 1019454] [NEW] GKSUDO WINDOW LOSES FOCUS IF THE PASSWORD PROMPT IS RIGHT-CLICKED!!
Public bug reported: I just realized what was going on today, although I've seen it happen before -- but I don't remember if it was the same version of ubuntu (or the gksu package). When the gksudo window pops up, supposedly grabbing your keyboard, if a user were to RIGHT-CLICK on the prompt line for whatever reason, two things happen: First, the right-click menu appears BELOW the gksudo window. Perhaps that was intended? Problem is, though, you only catch it if you either have a keen eye or know it's gonna do that. So there's that... Second, perhaps BECAUSE of the menu appearing BEHIND the gksudo window, the window directly behind where you right-clicked is now in focus. But you can't know until you start typing, because the cursor in the gksudo window is still flashing, ready for input. By that time, you've already entered a few letters of your passwd, if not the whole thing. If you hadn't yet noticed a problem, or don't expect it to BE a problem (perhaps because the TERMINAL version of sudo DOESN'T show the 's for each key press), you've just sent your password to everyone in the chatroom you were in. (if you're that unlucky, and that window was the one that got focused). What's worse, is that you CAN'T get focus BACK to the gksudo window without knowing what's going on. You can still click cancel, but left or middle-clicking on the actual prompt doesn't bring it back into focus (although the cursor flashes as if it IS in focus). The only way to bring it back into keyboard focus is to right-click again, THIS time the context menu appears ABOVE the gksudo window. Now it's focused. Moreover, further right-clicking doesn't go through the window like it did the first time... i.e. it works as intended. I tried this with multiple window managers, all do the same thing. [Bug 980715] [NEW] Menu bar is illegible grey on grey with GTK look and feel on default theme
Public bug reported: On the default Ubuntu theme, using the GTK look and feel (the default system look and feel on Ubuntu), menu bars are almost completely illegible, to the point of being unusable. They use grey on a slightly darker shade of grey. The menus themselves look fine, they use a light grey background and dark grey text . I assume it's picking up the wrong colour from the GTK theme. I haven't actually tested other themes, it's possible that they would look better, but it seems to me that it should be usable with the default theme. Using other look and feels would also work around the problem, but that's not a solution for similar reasons. [Bug 975941] [NEW] Spurious Digital Output S/PDIF output entry for USB headset
Public bug reported: I have a Sennheiser USB headset, which in Ubuntu 11.10 is reported correctly, once, in the sound settings when I plug it in. However in 12.04 it is reported twice: Digital Output (S/PDIF) Sennheiser USB headset Speakers Sennheiser USB headset Both have a headset icon. Only the Speaker entry appears to work correctly; when I try to select the Digital Output (S/PDIF) entry the selection usually immediately jumps to some other entry. It's also strange that the icon is a headset, so it appear to recognize that it's a headset, yet the label for the working entry is Speakers. [Bug 918758] [NEW] QT incorrectly determines the default locale from the LC_* variables

[Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
Why not Unity-2D? Because Unity-2D doesn't work with Xinerama either. It puts everything on my left monitor, and puts an identical copy of the screen on the second and third monitors. If I try to drag something off the left monitor it just disappears, and clicking the mouse on the second or third monitor has no effect. The *only* combination that (more or less) works for me (on a system which is by no means old or exotic) is the proprietary driver with GNOME Classic without effects. If that is the only thing that Ubuntu can offer me, then it's not unreasonable to expect it to at least work correctly. To the contrary, this is a metacity behavior, not by Ubuntu's design. I get that it isn't by design. That's what makes it a bug. And I understand that the bug is in metacity, that's why I filed the bug on metacity. I understand that Ubuntu doesn't have unlimited resources, but this bug can't be that hard to fix. Note that the window is initially opened on the *correct* monitor. But then (once it first receives the focus, it appears to be, which isn't always immediately) something (presumably metacity) moves the window to the wrong monitor. It is active behaviour, probably a feature which is misfiring, which can't be that hard to just turn off or disable, or at least make configurable, for someone familiar with the metacity codebase. Perhaps it even already is configurable, if only someone could tell me how! I'd also like to point out that there is no evidence that this is specific to Nvidia, or even Xinerama. The only way I can get multiple monitors to work at all is with Xinerama, but for all I know the same would happen without it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727928 Title: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/727928/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 894132] Re: unity does not start using xinerama and multi-monitor
@bilalakhtar: soulsource just added his similar experience with AMD, so I don't think this is specific to NVidia. I discovered that there is a tool which is supposed to test for Unity 3D support. I don't know if this is used to decide whether to fire up Unity 3D when you log in, but on my system it incorrectly reports that Unity 3D *is* supported, so that may explain why my system hangs when I try to log in with the default session. [Bug 896639] Re: pasted URL always shortened even when turned off
Matt, it's highly unlikely that Gwibber would be using t.co. As far as I know that is a private service created and exclusively used by Twitter. Gwibber shows your tweets as downloaded from Twitter, not as you posted them, and Twitter unfortunately shortens every link using their own link shortener, whether you want it to or not, and whether it actually becomes shorter or not. The behaviour I am seeing is that as soon as I paste a link into Gwibber, it gets shortened (using is.gd, in my case), so before it is even posted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896639 Title: pasted URL always shortened even when turned off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gwibber/+bug/896639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 894132] Re: unity does not start after upgrade to oneiric ocelot
I tried it. unity --reset appears to kinda sorta work and start Unity 3D. However it is unusable, and logging in with it still doesn't work. The first time I tried it Xinerama was still enabled. This resulted in three mirrored copies of Unity, one on each monitor (which all acted as if I clicked on them, any time I clicked on one of them). The desktop background image was shifted to the right, and the mouse didn't click where the mouse cursor was displayed, but one screen-width to the right, which was extremely confusing and unusable. I then tried again with Xinerama disabled. This time it looked a bit better. However it only used my middle monitor. The left and right monitors just displayed a white screen with a menu bar on top (apparently a Nautilus menu bar) and no way to start programs. Again, unusable. Also because since the mouse cursor does not stop at the left edge of the middle screen it is *extremely* hard to get the Unity panel to pop up. None of this made any difference to logging in to a Unity 3D session directly. That still didn't work, only displaying a menu bar (from Nautilus, presumably) at the top of every monitor with no way to start programs or even log out. Man, multi monitor support gets worse with every release of Ubuntu. It has now gotten to the point where it is unusable on *every* combination of display driver or session. The only one that works at all (with all monitors) is GNOME Classic (No Effects), with Xinerama enabled, but even that doesn't work right. When I try to drag icons on the desktop, the icons are suddenly transposed a full screen width to the left of the mouse cursor! What a terrible mess. Is Ubuntu even tested on multiple monitors at all? Here is the long list of failures of Ubuntu to allow me to use all the monitors on my system: * I have to use the proprietary NVidia driver because the open source driver does not support multiple cards. * I have to use Xinerama because otherwise there is no way of combining all screens into one desktop and be able to drag windows from one screen to another. (Previous versions did at least work without Xinerama, with each screen acting as a separate desktop, but that is no longer the case in this version.) * When Xinerama is enabled the ONLY session that works somewhat correctly is GNOME Classic (No Effects). Every other one either will not start at all, or has horrible bugs with mouse positioning, window placement, unusable second and third screen, etc. * And even that doesn't work fully correctly, as described above. And this is not some exotic or ancient system. It's a modern PC with a 3 GHz quad core Intel processor, 8 GB of RAM and two NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX cards, two monitors on the first card and one on the second. Something which Ubuntu should comfortably support. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894132 Title: unity does not start after upgrade to oneiric ocelot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/894132/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
