[Bug 662125] Re: update-manager: does not deiconify when second instance is started

2010-10-18 Thread Colin S. Miller
iconified is the KDE term for minimized, sorry for any confusion.

To reproduce -
1) start update-manager
2) minimize its main window
3) start a second instance of update-manager

The second instance will exit immediately, without asking the first one
to restore its window to a normal or maximized view.

BTW what does remix mean WRT Ubuntu releases? The initial install on my
notebook was the then-current release in March 2010.

[Bug 662125] Re: update-manager: does not deiconify when second instance is started

2010-10-18 Thread Colin S. Miller
Oops. I should really have checked my instructions, rather than relying
on memory. I was using synaptic package manager at the same time

Try these steps.

1) Start update-manager, and minimize it.
2) Start synaptic package manager, and minimize it
3) Click on update-manager's icon in the taskbar, update-manager will restore
its window
4) Click on the Check button, a dialog box warning
There is another synaptic running in interactive mode. Please close it
first
   will be displayed
5) Close this dialog; synapic will be restored.
6) Close synaptic
7) Minimize the update-manager again.
8) Run a second instance of update-manager

Hopefully, the first instance won't be restored.

2010-10-18 Thread Colin S. Miller
It seems that you installed a Netbook remix at first and then
upgraded to a regular 10.04 install. Is that correct?

Not quite, I installed an older Netbook edition, and then upgraded to
10.04 LTS Netbook install.

[Bug 662125] [NEW] does not deiconify when second instance is started

2010-10-17 Thread Colin S. Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

If the update-manager is iconified and another instance is started, then
the second instance exits.

It would be better if the second instance asked the first one to deiconify and
then raise itself
on top of the other applications.

This might be to do with #93726, which stopped two instances from
running at the same time.

[Bug 662134] [NEW] report-bug: Additonal program specification ideas

2010-10-17 Thread Colin S. Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

Following on from bug #662131,

At present, report-bug does not accept either program name or window-
title; it would be nice if a mapping database is available. Debian's
report-bug accepts the program name, and uses .dpkg info to determine
the package; the latter would need a bit of effort to provide and keep
up-to-date the database.

Ideally, a user should be able to select a GUI program by clicking on
its window, in the style of xwininfo/xkill.

[Bug 578098] Re: desktop icon highlight isn't always removed

2010-07-10 Thread Colin S. Miller
A related issue -

With netbook-launcher, when a user puts the mouse over an application
icon in a folder other than the favourites, then the icon is highlighted
and a '+' symbol will appear, which allows the user to add the
application to her favourites.

If instead the user clicks on the application to start it, and then exits the
application without moving the mouse,
then the icon's highlight is removed, but the '+' symbol remains. Moving the
mouse at all will restore the highlight. I'd expect the icon's highlight to be
restored as soon as it is revealed, as the mouse is still over it.

If the application is started from its icon again, and the mouse is
moved to the taskbar at the top of the screen before the application is
exited, then the '+' symbol is not removed from the icon. The mouse
must be moved over the icon and away again for the '+' symbol to be
removed. I'd expect it to be removed as soon as the icon is revealed as
the mouse is no longer over the icon.

[Bug 578098] [NEW] desktop icon highlight isn't always removed

2010-05-10 Thread Colin S. Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

If a non-full screen app is placed so that it partially over laps some desktop
icons, then
when them mouse is moved onto an icon, then the icon is highlighted. However,
if
the mouse is moved back onto the app, without first leaving the icon's area,
then the
highlight is not removed from the icon. The mouse can then be moved over another
icon to highlight it as well.

The highlights are only removed from the icons when the mouse moves from
the icon onto another area of the desktop.

[Bug 578441] [NEW] network-manager-applet status not updated on use of wireless disable button

2010-05-10 Thread Colin S. Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

My acer-aspire ONE (flash-drive model) has a slide momentary switch to
disable/enable the built-in WiFi module.
This, at a hardware level, works correctly.

However, the network-manager-applet systray icon is not updated on its use.
When it is pressed, a XF86WLAN X key event is sent to the current application.

network-manager-applet should intercept this key and recheck the
wireless network status.
