[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2015-04-06 Thread Damian Only
@Simon: I tried with kernel 3.16 in Utopic with the drivers shipped with
the kernel, and the wireless works quite bad (very low speeds, pages
take several minutes to load). Won't Trusty users experience the same?

Re: [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2015-02-07 Thread Damian Only
Ok, I'm giving the kernel 3.19 a try. Here is a list of the steps I'm
following according to the information gathered in this thread. Please
tell me if I'm missing something:
  - Install the kernel 3.19 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.19-rc7-vivid/
  - Clone the GIT repository: git clone
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
  - Compile and install the drivers: make && sudo make install
  - Blacklist the r8192ee module

Any remarks?

Thanks.

2014-10-27 Thread Damian Only
I've tried the latest version of the driver from Github and I also
experienced a system freeze. On the other hand, it is difficult to
connect to any network, and the traffic is really slow. @Larry: which
kernel version do you recommend for testing the drivers? I'm currently
using 3.16.2-031602-generic.

I see a lot of scans for other networks while connected. Is this normal?
(BSSID mismatch)

I really cannot draw any conclusions about this log. Does anybody can

2014-09-13 Thread Damian Only
I'm using the 3.16.0-031600rc6-generic kernel with the latest drivers
fetched from github. I can connect to my router, however the speed is
quite slow. It could take a couple of minutes till I get the results of
a google search.

I tried to look at the debug information (using the guidelines in 0) but
I cannot tell what is wrong. I'll attach the debug log, in case this can
help. I don't know if anybody besides Larry is working on this.

[Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]

2014-07-21 Thread Damian Only
Thanks a lot for all the work on the driver, and for getting the code
into the kernel.

I am using the kernel 3.16.0-031600rc6-generic, and the wireless works
but partially. It takes a long time to connect. And after resuming from
suspend it does not connect anymore.

What is the best way in which I can provide useful debug information?

Thanks.

Even if I try to add the event to my personal, and off-line calendar, I

As a temporary solution, killing the e-calendar-factory process and

[Bug 777620] Re: Banshee crashes when adding a podcast

2011-07-21 Thread Damian Only
Dear Walter,

I lack the appropriate judgment to decide whether to reopen the bug.
However, I want to point out that I think it is a Banshee bug, since the
only thing my windows manager is doing is to resize the "add podcast"
dialogs to fit a specific tile. Another problem is that the dialog
window is not correctly marking itself as "floating", otherwise Xmonad
will float it.

Anyway, since the intersection of Xmonad users and Banshee users is not
a significant set, I understand that you want to close the bug.

[Bug 773232] Re: gnome-volume-control freezes with "Waiting for sound system to respond"

2011-05-06 Thread Damian Only
Indeed, sometimes pulseaudio do not start at login (although it is set
up as one of the startup applications). If I run pulseaudio I can open
the sound preferences, but I cannot change the volume since the only
visible output is "Dummy output".

[Bug 777620] Re: Banshee crashes when adding a podcast

2011-05-06 Thread Damian Only
I found out what the problem was. I'm using Xmonad as my window manager, and it
tiles the subscribe window. If I add to my manage hooks
(stringProperty "WM_ICON_NAME" =? "Subscribe") --> doFloat
then the problem disappears.

Now I have two questions:
0. Can this crash be prevented, even if the window is tiled?
1. Xmonad floats those windows that require so, for instance the open file
dialogs, or the workrave windows. Shouldn't the "Subscribe to a new podcast"
identify itself as such to the window manager.

I don't think that matters because I cannot even open the add dialog. I tried
opening it after cleaning the clipboard and I get the same result. In any case
the URL is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/marcaderadio

I can upload all the banshee related files if you want.

[Bug 657415] Re: Bluetooth icon dissapears from systray after suspend

2011-04-02 Thread Damian Only
Sadly that doesn't work for me. The icon appears, but I only get a menu
with two options: "Turn Off Bluetooth", and "Preferences". If I click
"preferences" I get a dialog that says "Bluetooth is disabled", and a
"Turn on bluetooth" button. If I press it, nothing changes, and after
choosing preferences again I get the same dialog.

[Bug 577916] Re: lucid regression: does not resume from hibernation

2010-07-27 Thread Damian Only
The network is disabled every time the computer doesn't resume properly.
I suspended the laptop unsuccessfully today, and upon reboot I had the
network disabled problem again.

[Bug 594521] Re: I cannot install new gnome-screensaver themes

2010-06-15 Thread Damian Only
Sorry for that. However I tried to use 'ubuntu-bug' but it was not
possible for me to add details to the resulting report, and thus I
consider this a better way.

[Bug 594521] [NEW] I cannot install new gnome-screensaver themes

2010-06-15 Thread Damian Only
Public bug reported:

I've followed the instructions in:
http://live.gnome.org/GnomeScreensaver/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#How_can_I_create_a_new_theme_for_a_pre-existing_theme_engine.3F,
but I cannot get any new themes installed.

I've removed all the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/,
but the themes persisted, even after reboot. Only after a system update the
themes were deleted. I copied them back, but they don't appear.

Here they mention a workaround,
http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9463283#post9463283, but the
screensaver configuration is not working as claimed in the faqs.

Pedro I did what you told me to, but I got a message saying that apport
cannot report the problem because it is an assertion failure (as I
specified on the bug report)

[Bug 589605] [NEW] rhythmbox crashes when modifying an automatic playlist

2010-06-04 Thread Damian Only
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I created an automatic playlist, with only one criterion: "time of last
play not in the last 500 weeks".

I've updated the playlist later with the search criterion: "time of last
play not in the last 5000 weeks". When I press the close button
rhythmbox crashes with the message:

Rhythmbox:ERROR:rb-query-creator-properties.c:561:relativeTimeCriteriaGetWidgetData:
 assertion failed: (value >= 0)
Aborted

The bug is always reproducible on my system.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04

Rhythmbox version: 0.12.8-0ubuntu5

As a workaround (solution) I installed Tux On Ice (which was working in
my Gentoo system), and it worked flawlessly.

Does anybody around here knows how to set up things in the system so
that nvclock is used instead of the standard method whenever the dim
keys are pressed?
