[Bug 1922966] Re: Missing SVG skin icons with libKF5IconThemes5 5.80

2021-05-28 Thread Daniel Schürmann
The backported packages alone is not a good solution, because it depends on
other 5.82 packages.
I think we need a patched 5.80 version.

[Bug 1922966] Re: Missing SVG skin icons

2021-05-14 Thread Daniel Schürmann
On Ubuntu the current state for libkf5iconthemes5 is this:

bionic (18.04LTS) 5.44.0-0ubuntu1
focal (20.04LTS) 5.68.0-0ubuntu1
groovy (20.10) 5.74.0-0ubuntu1
hirsute (21.04) 5.80.0-0ubuntu1
impish (21.10) 5.82.0-0ubuntu1

So I guess this issue is not yet fixed with Ubuntu hirsute.
I will update the bug status here that others can find it and link it to the
upstream package.

Which libshout do you have installed? Is it one of 2.4.2 or 2.4.3?
Than you might suffer:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1833225

Libshout is returning: SHOUTERR_RETRY
Which is issued here:
https://github.com/xiph/Icecast-libshout/search?q=SHOUTERR_RETRY

The original Bionic package 2.4.1-2build1 should work though.
Maybe to groovy package also works 2.4.4-1:

[Bug 1789059] Re: continual GUI freeze

2019-06-02 Thread Daniel Schürmann
** Also affects: mixxx (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
  Several times using the master branch with Qt 5.10.1 on Fedora, the GUI
  has completely frozen. At first I thought it might be related to using
  my touchscreen because it happened a few times within a minute or two of
  using my touchscreen with the overview waveforms. That seems to be a
  coincidence though because I just encountered the bug again without
  using my touchscreen at all. When this occurs, the audio keeps playing
  until the end of the track, which allows for a relatively graceful
  recovery if this happens during a performance (which has happened to me
  a few times now). I can tell the controller thread still runs okay
  because LEDs light up when I press buttons. However, there is no change
  in the audio from manipulating my controller. Unfortunately I have no
  idea how to reproduce this. The best idea I have currently for
  attempting to debug this is to run Mixxx in a debugger until the bug
  happens by chance.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Use Mixxx with the effected setup and verify that there is no GUI
+ deadlock.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Due to the changed way of building the GUI elements there might be

[Bug 1804513] Re: Cosmic: Mixxx 2.1.3 is not stable with Qt5

2019-06-02 Thread Daniel Schürmann
> The issues mentioned to be caused by the 'buggy' version do seem to be
high-impact, but from what I understand the application is still usable
- is that correct?

It depends on the definition of usable. You can start the application
play tracks, but it may stop a party, which is the most critical bug we
can think of. We actually do not know the effects very well, because the
cosmic build linked with Qt5 has bypassed our quality management. The
Mixxx 2.1.3 was tested and released with Qt4.8 only. It is strongly
recommended to not use this build because of that.

> Looking at the source, it looks to me that there is quite a lot of
unit-tests defined - are those being run during build time?

Most unit tests are unit testing against regressions inside the audio
engine. The tests are linked in a own binary, not the production binary
build on Launchpad, so we cannot detect link and packaging issues like
we face here. We execute them automatically in each PR and before
release on our own CI.

But IMHO the situation is way better now, thanks to the delay here: Mixxx 2.2.0
was released on 11th January, almost 6 month ago and it has landed in various
distros without mayor complains:
https://repology.org/project/mixxx/versions

> Finally, if we decide to include this SRU in our stable series, the
manual testing story will have to be improved.

Yes, some "smoke tests" with the production binary should be done help
such situation is not repeated.

I will update the test cases and the linked bugs.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   Mixxx 2.1 a Qt4 release was accidentally linked against Qt5. It suffers
  some critical issues which are fixed in the 2.2 release linked against
  QT5 the outstanding issues are:

   * GUI freeze due to a Xlib deadlock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805559
   * Various GUI freezes and leaks https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1789059
   * No scaling with HiDPI screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1744861
   * Wrong waveform size and position with GLSL
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1530697

   Other non critical changes are:

   * Vectorize remaining raster graphics for better HiDPI support.
   * Add mix mode switch (Dry/Wet vs Dry+Wet) for effect units.
   * Add support for LV2 effects plugins (currently no way to show plugin GUIs).
   * Add preference option for selecting which effects are shown in the list of
available effects in the main window (all LV2 effects are hidden by default
and must be explicitly enabled by users).
   * Add 8 sampler and small sampler options to LateNight.
   * Add key / BPM expansion indicators to Deere decks.
   * Add skin settings menu to LateNight.
   * Add controller mapping for Numark Mixtrack Platinum.
   * Update controller mapping for Numark N4.
   * Add spinback and break for Vestax VCI-400 mapping.
   * Add preference option to adjust the play position marker of scrolling
   * Add preference option to adjust opacity of beatgrid markers on scrolling
waveforms.
   * Support IRC/AIM/ICQ broadcast metadata.

  The full list of bugs can be found here:
  https://launchpad.net/mixxx/+milestone/2.2.0

  [Test Case]

   * Start Mixxx on the console

   * Watch out for "Debug [Main]: Qt: 4.8.7"

   * all 2.1 Version must report a qt major 4 version and all 2.2 Versions
     must report a qt major 5 version

+ * Watch the GUI for random artifacts
+
+ * Load an mp3 track via drag and drop from Nautilus. Is the waveform shown
correctly?
+
+ * Play the track. Does it play without sound artifacts?
+
+
  [Regression Potential]

   Mixxx 2.2 was mainly the Qt5 release with many fixes around Qt. There
  are no known regressions since the release 2018-12-17. Using this
  settled version has less regression potential compared to back porting
  the QT5 fixes to Mixxx 2.1

  [Other Info]

   * The Debian upstream packages have been updated to 2.2.0

https://packages.debian.org/buster/mixxx
  https://packages.debian.org/sid/mixxx

   * See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1768148 for some
  history.

[Bug 1316402] Re: OpenGL ES 2 support

2019-04-26 Thread Daniel Schürmann
The first step was done here:
https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/pull/2088

With QT5 the QT waveforms and Spinnies are already GLES if such a renderer is
used.
I think we can easily turn the software waveform into GLES by putting the code
int a QGlWidget like the Qt types.

2019-03-30 Thread Daniel Schürmann
We have a quite good experience with 2.2.0 on Linux since the release,
no QT unrelated regressions.

We have some regressions tracked here
https://launchpad.net/mixxx/+milestone/2.2.1 due to QT5 though.
The current Cosmic version already suffers these issues.

2019-03-29 Thread Daniel Schürmann
I have update the initial post with all the requested info so far. Is
anything missing?

The mayor argument is that the currently released version has bypassed
all quality checks of the Mixxx community.

The outstanding issue among others is the leak if GUI responds and possible
freezes.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1789059

There is also a critical issue with HID scaling:

[Bug 1804513] Re: Cosmic: Mixxx 2.1.3 is not stable with Qt5

2019-03-29 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Thank you Robert for you explainations. I appreciate you efforts to keep
Ubuntu as stable as possible.

However this case is special. You can't not treat the current repository
version as stable. It is basically a untested 2.2 alpha with a wrong
version number, that slipped into the Debian repros by an accident and
pulled here.

I am just asking to revert this accident and replace it with either 2.1
build with Qt4 or 2.2 with QT5. Both versions where been sorrowly tested
and can be treated as stable.

It is fatuos to to explain here every thing left issue we have fixed when
porting to Qt5. I have already linked the tracked bugs above.
It would be much more risky to backport all these and more fixes into 2.1,
which would be still an untested alpha.

The best user experience would be to switch to 2.2 because this does not
involve installing whole Qt4. 2.2 is our Qt5 release the mentioned
bugfixes plus additional changes linked above.

During the release you have followed Debian, they have fixed the issue by
upgrading to 2.2
 So it is reasonable to follow them again. Downgrading Qt with 2.1 would be
also work for me.

I there anything left to do for me here? Who is the responsible package
maintainer?

2019-03-28 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Thank you for taking care here.

> Part of this process involves ensuring that only bugfixes and patches
suitable for stable releases are accepted.

This rule does not apply here, the released binaries are unusable because it is
a Qt4 Version build with Qt5 and suffers MANY bugs. Here it is the question how
to revert the error.
Solutions would be to go to a 2.1.3 Qt4 build a 2.1.7 Qt4 build or a 2.2.0 Qt5
build.

I recommend to update to 2.2.0 QT5 and follow Debian upstream to avoid that the
update drew all the qt4 libraries, which might be annoying compared to some
feature updates.

[Bug 1793202] Re: SIGILL on i386

2018-09-19 Thread Daniel Schürmann
With sse2 support I am able to use Mixxx on my old Netbook. If we remove
it, we have a regression for these devices in favour of older devices
which may not be usable anyway.

If we decide to add SEE enforcement code into Mixxx, it will be conditional for
sse2 builds.
So there is no hacking required to build non sse2 version. We have already the
optimize=native flag, which should do the trick for all targets.

The same issue may effect our other 32 bit targets. Do we reach main()
with sse2 enabled and msvc?

Is there a way to not use sse2 during the initialisation before main?
This would allow us to check for sse2 at runtime without any pain.

Or we may just ignore this issue and wait until all non sse2 CPUs have
died. ...

I have tweak the title again, because it is not a solution to make the
directory a translatable string.

This is my ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

[Bug 1792017] Re: wrong default working dir

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel Schürmann
I have a German installation and it is the
Optionen -> Pfade -> Arbeitsverzeichnis -> Standard

In your side note you have described my issue. For some reasons (maybe a
faulty app has created it) I have the folder ~/Dokumente and
~/Documents. So unlike in your Spanish example it does not pick
"/home/username" as fallback, it picks "/home/username/Documents where I
do not have a Natilus shortcut for and so almost hidden.

I had a bief look into the source
https://github.com/LibreOffice/core/blob/b5867945d67dba505d0629e5e41fdc52bc78bfee/shell/source/backends/desktopbe/desktopbackend.cxx#L245

And it looks like using "xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS" is intended. It is done
by accessing directly the "~/.config/user-dirs.dirs" file. Maybe it
fails somewhere?

[Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.

2018-09-13 Thread Daniel Schürmann
The issue can be visualized like this

sound hardware
 |
Alsa (only one client allowed)
 | | | L---Mixxx
 | | L-Skype
 | L---dmix
 |
pulse audio server
| | L Firefox
| L-- Clementine
L pulse alsa bridge

The issue is that Alsa only allows one device at a time. Pulseaudio
solves this, unfortunately not all applications have native pulsaudio
output. Some are just two old, using the cross platform portaudio
wrapper or just need direct hardware access for low latency.

There are two workarounds:

Installing dmix, which pretends exclusive alsa access but actually mixes
the samples from mutable applications.
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1889375

Using the "pulse" alsa fake device, which pretends to be an alsa
soundcard but actual passes the samples to the pulse audio server.

[Bug 1792017] [NEW] wrong default working dir

2018-09-11 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Public bug reported:

The default working dir is hard coded to ~/Documents
I had to redo my saved work, because I have assumed it was lost in ~/Dokumente

I have now fixed this by changing the working directory manually.

The default working dir should be changed to "xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS"
that other users so not suffer the same.

I have updated from Xenial and never experienced these issues. Is it a
kind of regression?

In the Mixxx project, we like to offer our user the best experience and

Hacking magic commands to the terminal should not be a part of that.
I think we can also not add that to our install scripts because of the
different ubuntu flavours.

Do you have any ideas what can be the solution to fix this regression?

[Bug 1546373] Re: Please update to bugfix release 1.10

2016-04-25 Thread Daniel Schürmann
We ship taglib 1.10 along with Mixxx 2.0 for Linux, Windows and Mac since
2016-01-01 and do not face a single single taglib related crasher since then.
1.9 taglib was one of the main reasons for a crash before. The taglib source
tree includes a nice collections of problem files for test.

We strongly recommend to use taglib 1.10, because Mixxx does not have a
quarantine process for taglib like Rhythmbox or Clementine.

[Bug 1353988] Re: Taglib causes crash

2015-11-26 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Taglib 1.10 fixes this bug and a lot of other real life crashers.
Imho it is worth to put a 1.10 to the default update repositories.
This will improve stability of almost all media players.

At Mixxx, we are considering to provide Taglib 1.10 via the app ppa in a same
way like Ilya does.
We can avoid a possible minor versioning clash, if we had a single resource.

[Bug 1464913] [NEW] portaudio19-dev can't be installed without conflicts

2015-06-13 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Release:14.04
Package: portaudio19-dev 19+svn20140130-1

We have some issues with portaudio and jack 1/2,
setting up a development environment.
A solution involves uninstalling the default libjack-jackd2-0

What you expected to happen:
Installing: portaudio19-dev should work without any issues on a stock install.

What happened instead:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libjack-dev : Depends: libjack0 (= 1:0.121.3+20120418git75e3e20b-2.1ubuntu1)
but it is not going to be installed

This was original reported for Mixxx (Bug #1326653)
The final build result (Mixxx) runs fine with libjack-jackd2-0
in place.

Reinstalling libjack-jackd2-dev after portaudio19-dev works.

libjack-dev is listed in the portaudio19-dev dependency.
I do not know how libjack-jackd2-dev can satisfy this dependency,
but this state should be somehow swapped.

** Affects: portaudio19 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1316402] Re: OpenGL ES 2 support

2014-12-27 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Here some useful info:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16609825/matrix-mode-for-2d-graphics-in-opengl-es-2

It seams that we need new waveforms to have the benefit of ES2.
For now, we can just disable openGL waveform parts in the Mixxx source codebase
if
QT_OPENGL_ES_1 or QT_OPENGL_ES_2 is defined.

Here the header selection from the Qt code:

#if defined(Q_WS_MAC)
# include
#elif defined(QT_OPENGL_ES_1)
# if defined(Q_OS_MAC)
#  include
# else
#  include
# endif
# ifndef GL_DOUBLE
#  define GL_DOUBLE GL_FLOAT
# endif
# ifndef GLdouble
typedef GLfloat GLdouble;
# endif
#elif defined(QT_OPENGL_ES_2)
# if defined(Q_OS_MAC)
#  include
# else
#  include
# endif
# ifndef GL_DOUBLE
#  define GL_DOUBLE GL_FLOAT
# endif
# ifndef GLdouble
typedef GLfloat GLdouble;
# endif
#else
# include <- this is active on Linux builds
#endif

[Bug 1296027] Re: mixxx assert failure: mixxx: pcm.c:2731: snd_pcm_area_copy: asserzione \"dst < src || dst >= src + bytes\" non riuscita.

2014-10-13 Thread Daniel Schürmann
According to this post [1], the issue should be fixed with
libasound2 1.0.27.2
which is part of Trusty
(File time 2014-4-10)

Since the backtracks are of a later date, It is probably not fixed.

Please check and report which version of libasound2 is uses.

It would be also helpful to generate the back trace again with debug
symbols in place.

sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-dbg  libasound2-dbg

Thank you.

[Bug 1280771] Re: Replace mic volume with mic gain in default skins

2014-04-22 Thread Daniel Schürmann
I have this issue with my hardware. The sound-card has a mic volume and a mic
boost control.
Strictly spoken, Mixxx is the wrong place to solve it without loosing bit
depth.
But since opening the alsa mixer to set the boost control is very unhandy in
live situation, this is a good band aid.

This is an aspect of Bug #1306253

[Bug 1159839] Re: Xorg freeze nouveau + cinnamon

2014-01-09 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Hi Christopher,

it looks like the problem is gone since a while or happens at least less often.

Currently I am using
* Ubuntu 12.04
* xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build3
* firefox 26.0+build2-0ubuntu0.12.04.2
* cinnamon 2.0.14-20131203040103-precise

I am not able to test a development release, because this is my
productive machine.

Kind regards,

Daniel

[Bug 1264609] Re: No AC3 paththrough with hda intel ALC887-VD Saucy

2014-01-08 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Ok , I will test it tonight.

Yesterday was facing an issue with totem and PCM playback:
With: 'IEC958 Default PCM' = 0.
* play a track in totem via pulseaudio
* switch to an other track (while the first is still playing)
* I can hear a spit of a second of the new track, but then transport stops.

This issue is gone after changing back to 'IEC958 Default PCM' = 1.

[Bug 1264609] Re: No AC3 paththrough with hda intel ALC887-VD Saucy

2014-01-08 Thread Daniel Schürmann
I have tested switching 'IEC958 Default PCM' in alsamixer. But it has no
noteable effect for me.
* mplayer playes ac3 in both positions
* aplay does not play in both positions
* PCM soud is working from any player in both positions

About the possible index=16 conflict:
It seams all 'IEC958' controls are working as desired.
I can mute PCM and AC3 sound with the 'IEC958' control of PCH.
Both 'IEC958' switches of the MID are not effecting the output of PCH.

In Saucy we have kernel 3.11. It looks like that the either the conflict or the
move to 16 does not happen.
Do you have an idea to test this?

>From the alsa-info.txt:

Node 0x05 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40778d: 8-Channels Digital Amp-Out CP
  Control: name="IEC958 Playback Default", index=0, device=0

Node 0x07 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x40778d: 8-Channels Digital Amp-Out CP
  Control: name="IEC958 Playback Default", index=1, device=0

Node 0x10 [Audio Output] wcaps 0x611: Stereo Digital
  Control: name="IEC958 Playback Default", index=0, device=0
  Device: name="ALC887-VD Digital", type="SPDIF", device=1

Do I have the conflict Node 0x05 and 0x10? Should the Node 0x10 have:

  Control: name="IEC958 Playback Default", index=16, device=0

Why is mplayer able to play ac3 passthrough?
I have no issues with PCM output why is this not effected?

2014-01-08 Thread Daniel Schürmann
How can I check that?
Do you think it is an issue of settings in alsamixer?
The patched version from #10 of /usr/share/alsa/cards/HDA-Intel.conf is
installed in Ubuntu Saucy.

In gst 0.10 uses always the iec958 device on the first card. This seams the
issue above.
This schould be fixed it gst 1.0

But with gst 1.0 I get this error:

[Bug 1264609] Re: No AC3 paththrough with hda intel ALC887-VD Saucy

2014-01-04 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Now I try the same with gstreamer:

This works. Playing the stereo converted PCM stream:

pasuspender -- gst-launch-0.10 -v filesrc
location=/home/daniel/workspace/Testsounds/www_lynnemusic_com_surround_test.ac3
! decodebin ! audioconvert  ! alsasink device='iec958:CARD=PCH,DEV=0'

Now pathtrough:

pasuspender -- gst-launch-0.10 -v filesrc
location=/home/daniel/workspace/Testsounds/www_lynnemusic_com_surround_test.ac3
! ac3iec958 ! alsasink device='iec958:CARD=PCH,DEV=0'
Leitung wird auf PAUSIERT gesetzt ...
Leitung läuft vor …
/GstPipeline:pipeline0/AC3IEC:ac3iec0.GstPad:src: caps = audio/x-iec958,
rate=(int)48000
FEHLER: Von Element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstAlsaSink:alsasink0: Die Ressource
konnte nicht zum Schreiben geöffnet werden.
Zusätzliche Fehlerdiagnoseinformation:
gstalsasink.c(748): gst_alsasink_prepare ():
/GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstAlsaSink:alsasink0:
Could not open IEC958 (SPDIF) device for playback
FEHLER: Leitung läuft nicht vor.
gst-launch-0.10: pcm.c:694: snd_pcm_close: Zusicherung »pcm« nicht erfüllt.
Leitung wird auf NULL gesetzt ...
WARNUNG: Kind-Prozess durch Signal 6 beendet

it seems gst_alsa_open_iec958_pcm in gstalsa.c fails.

Can someone check if the used command is valid for my case? Thank you.

Just for the record:
My workaround for watching DVDs is the following command in a shell script:

[Bug 1264609] Re: No AC3 paththrough with hda intel ALC887-VD Saucy

2013-12-30 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Hi Raymond,

thank you very much for your help!

> why do you specify ,DEV=0 ?

because it is the output form
play -L

iec958:CARD=PCH,DEV=0
HDA Intel PCH, ALC887-VD Digital
IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output

I can play stereo wave files with a play and this device as desired.

> do your card have spdif out at rear and internal spdif out header ?

Yes, It is a ASUS on-board sound solution with an external Toslink
connector and an unused internal spdif out header.

Here my test results from the provided link:

 mplayer dvd://1 -channels 6 -ao alsa:device=iec958=1.0  -ac hwac3
-> Dolby Digital 3/2.1 Output (6 Channel) ;  iecset -D hw:1 reports
non-audio (yippee)

But:

mplayer dvd://1 -channels 6 -ac hwac3
-> No Digital Output (2 Channel) no pulse input; iecset -D hw:1 reports
audio

mplayer dvd://1 -channels 6
-> Digital PCM Output (2 Channel) via pulse (6 Channels Input in
pavucontrol); iecset -D hw:1 reports audio

Conclusion:
It is mplayer + alsa iec958 driver works as desired
a52 plugin + alsa iec958 driver works as desired

aplay + alsa iec958 driver no sound
Pulsaudio + alsa iec958 driver works but no passthrough
vlc + pulseaudo works but no passthrough
vlc + alsa iec958 driver no sound
totem + pulseaudo no sound

So there must be must be something like an interface change that does not
effect mplayer and a52, but the other players.
Any Idea? What can I do next for debug?

[Bug 1264609] Re: No AC3 paththrough with hda intel ALC887-VD Saucy

2013-12-29 Thread Daniel Schürmann
After applying a patch for Bug #1264886 and setup the a52 plug-In, I am
able to play Norrlanda.wav via Totem with 5.1 channels to my amp.

I think this proves the following:
1. My hardware setup is OK
2. The low level alsa driver is able to output AC3

But Paththrough via the hw and the iec958 is still not possible.

Any idea how to debug any further?

[Bug 1264886] [NEW] Pulseaudio provokes SIGFPE in libavutil

2013-12-29 Thread Daniel Schürmann
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 13.10
libavutil51: 6:0.8.9-0ubuntu0.13.10.1
libasound2-plugins-extra: 1.0.27-2ubuntu1

After following the guide at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DigitalAC-3Pulseaudio

Pulseaudo crashed with a SIGFPE, Arithmetic exception just after start.

The same bug in entirely analyzed here http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=713856

It turns out that libasound2-plugins-extra: 1.0.27-2ubuntu1 expects
version 9 of libavutil , because it uses 0 for default alignement which
was introduced after 0.8.9 release.

It looks like the issue was fixed by back porting
http://git.libav.org/?p=libav.git;a=patch;h=0109a09dc3850eb5dbff84a7bb50eb252a5a8f22
to 0.8.8.

We need it for 0.8.9 as well.

** Affects: libav (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
