[Bug 1865499] Re: pulseaudio doesn't detect (new) USB headset
I think I have the same problem. In the last week, my USB headset (Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000) is often only recognized as an output, or only recognized as an input, by PulseAudio. When checking with alsamixer, it seems that Alsa recognizes both input and output, but PulseAudio doesn't... This does seem like a race condition in PulseAudio, so those Alsa changes don't seem like what's caused my problem. How can I confirm if this is the same problem as reported or a different one? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1865499 Title: pulseaudio doesn't detect (new) USB headset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-lib/+bug/1865499/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1546704] [NEW] Error connecting to VPN disconnects WiFi
Public bug reported: The WiFi Configuration page has an option "Automatically connect to VPN when using this connection". This is useful. [Bug 449394] Re: Huawei E220 modem unable to connect under Karmic
I had this problem under Karmic. Then under Lucid everything seemed to work fine, until yesterday ... I tried following Damjan's instructions in #68, but they didn't work for me: * I added the rule to /etc/udev/rules.d and did a reboot * On plugging in the device, it seemed to initialize OK (light went flashing blue), but I could not see any 3G options under the NetworkManager menu * I then tried killing udisks-daemon and upowerd. After that, I plugged in the device again. This time, it showed up under NetworkManager and I got a successful connection * Based on the logs (see below), it seems that until I killed udisks-daemon and upowerd this wasn't registered as a GSM modem. But I didn't do a manual modprobe usbserial, that was loaded automatically, but only after killing those processes Here's /var/log/messages from plugging in the device (initial timestamps and machine name stripped): [ 419.520174] usb 6-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 [ 419.678471] usb 6-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 419.742527] Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... [Bug 380186] Re: ndiswrapper (ntos_wq) tainted leading to kernel crash
I also have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo (I think 1818). The WiFi card is a Fujitsu Siemens D2301 WLAN. ndiswrapper worked fine in jaunty. I kept my jaunty partition as a backup. Since upgrading to lucid it won't work. I've reinstalled ndiswrapper and recreated the /etc/ndiswrapper/ config. I've tested with the 2.6.32-21 kernel, and the latest 2.6.32-22. I also tried using the jaunty kernel (2.6.28) on the lucid partition, and the freeze still occurs. However I can reliably boot and use the ndiswrapper driver on jaunty using the same kernel. If I boot into recovery mode, resume the normal boot, and then modprobe wlan0, the soft lockup occurs. Once I got a traceback but unfortunately the disk didn't seem to sync properly so I couldn't find it on reboot - but it did have KfAcquireSpinLock in it. (See #526450) Since the jaunty kernel causes errors on lucid too, this seems to point to a problem in ndiswrapper... Would it be worth downgrading ndiswrapper to the jaunty version and testing that? -- ndiswrapper (ntos_wq) tainted leading to kernel crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts
Ah, my problem was misunderstanding the SCIM config See http://www.scim-im.org/forums#nabble-td4554222|a4554222 Basically I found that in the SCIM Global Setup I had Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Shift_L, Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Shift_R, Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Control_L, and Shift-Control-KeyRelease-Control_R defined. Removing these stops the Control-Shift trigger. [Bug 228343] Re: Ctrl-Alt-Tab no longer moves focus between panels with compiz
Re #1: I can confirm this bug. However I think the real bug here is that the default keybindings of compiz overwrites a default keybinding in the gnome desktop. Workaround: * open gconf-editor * change the value of /apps/metacity/global_keybindings/switch_panels This doesn't seem to make sense. That's a metacity setting, but metacity is not running when Compiz However I did try adjusting the key bindings in the Gnome Keyboard Shortcuts dialog box, and it affects this key, so Gnome is obviously storing the values here. I set cycle_panels to Ctrl-Alt-comma, and switch_panels to Ctrl-Alt-period. Neither of these keys have any effect I suspect that Gnome is writing the settings here for metacity, and Compiz is reading some of them using plugins but not all... For example, the compiz Gnome Compatibility plugin contains separate settings for Show Main Menu and Run Dialog (Alt-F1 and Alt-F2 by default) - these modify and reflect the global_keybindings under metacity and also in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog The Expo plugin has an Expo key setting, and this modifies the Expo key in Keyboard Shortcuts-Desktop-Expo key as well. I have found that in the Application Switcher plugin there are Bindings for Next Panel and Prev Panel that can be configured with either mouse or keyboard. However: * The keyboard bindings do not connect with the corresponding settings in Keyboard Shortcuts / metacity * The functionality seems bizarre. If I set the binding to Ctrl-Alt-period, then pressing that fades out everything except the selected panel. However as soon as I release Ctrl or Alt, the desktop restores to normal and my window regains focus. If I set it to something like period, then the effect lasts for as long as I keep the period key depressed. In addition, any keypresses during the focus on the panel seem to be sent to the last active window, not the panel. So in effect these key bindings seem to be absolutely useless... unless I'm missing something. -- Ctrl-Alt-Tab no longer moves focus between panels with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228343 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 519195] Re: No focus using keyboard
Quoting from https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-accessibility/2010-February/004194.html for reference: Actually this isn't quite true although the method for focusing them isn't obvious, nor is it obvious that you are on the indicator applet. Basically, tab around the panel until you hear menu bar one to the left of the clock. Press the right arrow. You will then focus the indicator applets with the keyboard. Note though that there are still a few issues here: 1. Indicator is not identified as such, this would be easily fixable. It is identified as menu bar instead which, while technically correct in a sense as it does function similar to a menu, isn't descriptive enough since there's already the main menu bar on the panel. 2. While doing this, sometimes you get stuck on the panel and can only tab between the indicator and the clock. The only way out of it I've found is to click the mouse somewhere else. This is more nasty. None of the task switching or panel switching keystrokes will work if you get into this situation. [Bug 228343] Re: Ctrl-Alt-Tab no longer moves focus between panels with compiz
Correction to my above post: the Next Panel binding does in fact select the panel highlighted, and defocus the current window! However there is no highlighting of the panel to indicate this, and in addition actually doing anything with the panel is tricky. So far if I: * Select the panel using Next Panel (e.g. Ctrl-Alt-period), the current window is defocused and the panel is selected * Press tab to cycle through elements in the panel Only some of the items in the panel show the dotted-line highlighting. It's quite tricky to see when you've selected the indicator applet element for example (see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libindicator/+bug/519195: sometimes pressing left/right seems to just select the username and icon, and sometimes it drops down the menu) - the net result is you can get lost fairly easily. -- Ctrl-Alt-Tab no longer moves focus between panels with compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/228343 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Note in addition: Once the indicator-applet-session or indicator-applet is selected in the panel, it swallows all keypresses it doesn't expect, including the Tab and Shift-Tab keys you'd expect to get out of it. [Bug 446146] Re: Several Huawei USB dongle don't work with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 (2.6.31.1 update related)
@madbiologist: I have been trying to track this for the E220. My lsusb reads: Bus 006 Device 007: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem dmesg repeatedly shows option: option_instat_callback: error -108 So since this is the same error, and the upstream bug is still linked to this report, should this be treated as the same bug or not? It's unclear what needs to be done to clear this up for the E220 and whether anyone is working on this or it's being treated as solved because it's a different modem. Also of interest is that the same modem works successfully on a friend's machine with the same kernel on karmic (2.6.31.17.30) -- Several Huawei USB dongle don't work with kernel 2.6.31-12.40 (2.6.31.1 update related) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/446146 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Note that the fix messages are only for Lucid, not for Karmic. This is assigned to Andy Whitcroft, who last commented on this in November - perhaps we could have a comment on whether the Lucid fix is definitive, and if we can expect a karmic backport? If not, we need some analysis of: * Which machines are fixed/broken * If they are running Lucid or Karmic * Which kernels they are using * Which modems they are using * What symptoms they experience * If the modprobe usb_storage trick works I'm using a Huawei E220 and this is still broken for me on kernel 2.6.31-17 on karmic (as the status reflects). I had the same bug on my Inspiron 1525 laptop with an Intel GM965/GL960 card. I am suspicious that this is due to the Virtual screen size in the graphics card being set to 8192x8192 Previously I have always set this to a maximum of 2048x2048 or less in xorg.conf, to prevent running out of memory on the card and getting corruption. [Bug 507799] [NEW] Ctrl-Fn shortcuts for switching windows sometimes have to be pressed twice
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Since upgrading from karmic to jaunty, my Ctrl-F1 to Ctrl-F5 keyboards that are defined for switching workspaces aren't working consistently I have checked that they are still defined in the Keyboard Shortcuts window, and tried redefining them. It seems that applications are now receiving the events sometimes. Symptoms are: * In Firefox, Ctrl-F4 initially closes a tab, then switches to workspace four. Other keypresses behave similarly - the initial Ctrl sequence seems to be sent to the application * In gnome-terminal, if I have been typing in the terminal, pressing Ctrl-F2 through Ctrl-F5 the first time yields character sequences like;5Q;5R;5S. Repeating the keypress while Ctrl is held down (or pressing a different Ctrl-Fn) actually switches workspace. When I first hold down Ctrl, the cursor changes from solid rectangle to an outline. Pressing any key (e.g. Alt, Shift, F1, etc) changes it back to a solid rectangle. Since Ctrl-Alt doesn't do anything, the easiest way to avoid the problem is to hold down Ctrl, press Alt, release Alt, then press Fn whilst still holding down Ctrl I am using Compiz as the window manager, and I have the Gnome Compatibility and Commands plugins enabled I am using SCIM and it is configured with Ctrl-Space as the trigger and Ctrl-Shift switches to the next language ** Affects: compiz Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: scim Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: karmic ** Also affects: compiz Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: scim Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ctrl-Fn shortcuts for switching windows sometimes have to be pressed twice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507799 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the registrant for SCIM. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
