[Bug 1967651] Re: Unicomp trackball/keyboard not recognised in Xorg sessions
adding the package xserver-xorg-input-libinput appears to have solved the problem. [Bug 1967817] [NEW] display problems with wayland
Public bug reported: I upgraded from 21.10 to 22.04 pre-beta. xorg isn't working (separate bug filed for that), so I switched to wayland. Using gnome, kde, and ubuntu desktops under wayland is giving problems with chrome and brave browsers. If I have a single window open, it's pretty good, but if I have multiple windows open (a half dozen for brave, 33 for chrome is typical for me), the screen frequently flickers and I get portions of the different windows showing up. In many ways this is similar to screen tearing (historically fixed with vsync updating in X), but it doesn't have a clean edge to it, and it's not a matter of top of the screen one image, bottom the other, instead it's a band (~1/4 of the screen high, not always in the same location, but tends to be ~1/3 down from the top more frequently) and in that band I see portions of other windows that are behind the forground window. [Bug 1967047] [NEW] upgrade failure from 21.10 to 22.04 due to PPA
Public bug reported: I had the kubuntu-backports PPA enabled and when I did do-release- upgrade -d from 21.10 to 22.04 the system crashed partway through the process. After rebooting, X would not start (white screen with a frowning computer telling me the system had a problem and I should contact my administrator) after logging in from the command line and fixing broken/pending packages via apt, the system would boot, but only to the command line and startx would trigger the white error again. when I attempted to do apt install kubuntu-desktop to try and fix things, I got the following error Building dependency tree... [Bug 1446865]
Thomas, if you start lots of sessions without anyone logging out, you quickly run out of system resources for all the running apps. But even with a single user on a laptop, I have to deal with the pain or restarting sessions regularly because the laptop doesn't stay plugged in all the time and doesn't have an infinite battery. Personally, I prefer that Firefox/Chrome not startup until I tell them to because I may not have network connectivity and 40 firefox windows with a couple hundred tabs all reporting "connection failed" is not useful. The fact that KDE4 would detect when firefox was running at shutdown (even when I start it manually from a shell window) is a bug as far as I'm concerned. Go ahead and restart apps that I started through the KDE menu, but don't try to detect apps that I start from the command line and then start them automatically (especially when you do so without the command-line parameters I provided) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446865 Title: kwin does not remember on which desktop to open windows on session start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1446865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1446865]
>> Go ahead and restart apps that I started through the KDE menu, but don't try to detect apps that I start from the command line > That's unfortunately indistiguishable. only if you only do this by looking at what's running at the time you shutdown. If something is started from the KDE menu, then you can track that you started it and the user hasn't exited it. restart those apps. But if you are actually trying to restart all apps, then you are failing miserably. I routinely have many apps running in terminal windows that don't get restarted, as well as a few GUI apps (almost none KDE/Gnome apps) that don't get restarted. Other apps that get restarted are missing the context (what files they had open, etc) my terminal windows get started, but beyond them and the browsers, not a lot more (and currently all the terminal windws get shoved onto the first screen. >> Thomas, if you start lots of sessions without anyone logging out, you quickly run out of system resources for all the running apps. > Risking a little OT, "which"? > RAM? => https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Swap swap is horrible to use, and it's still easy to run out of swap. You actually don't want to have tens of GB of swap because the system will become unusable if it is used. I run my systems with very little swap (I only have one machine with more than 2G of swap, even if the system has hundreds of GB of RAM). I've actually had a machine with 128G of RAM that only had 120G of disk. My VMs for work typically have 40G of disk or so, even if they have 32+G of RAM disk space may be cheap, but only if you don't need to add a drive for it and aren't using expensive storage (price the per-GB cost of EMC storage for example, especially if you include replication of the storage) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446865 Title: kwin does not remember on which desktop to open windows on session start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdebase-workspace/+bug/1446865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1015567] Re: upgrade failed: mixed non-coinstallable and coinstallable package instances present
Dmitrijs, The problem is that people who tripped over this bug cannot use the normal methods to upgrade to get the fix. We greatly appriciate that the bug is now fixed so this won't trash everyone else's systems, but the question is how to fix the systems that this bug already trashed. I got out of it by editing /var/lib/dpkg/status to add an arch entry when one wasn't present. However, most people are not going to be comfortable doing that, so what can they do? I suspect that this is going to require downloading a fixed dpkg binary from somewhere, and then running something with that to get the fix properly. I could find the package, download it, extract it, and replace the binary, but there is probably a much cleaner way to do this, but it will take someone who knows the debian packaging internals better than I do to identify what is the minimum safe thing to do.
