[Bug 1947455] Re: sub sub domain names not properly resolved

2022-02-21 Thread Bram Diederik
I had other network hostname issues. google lead me to a file called
/etc/nsswitch.conf

I replaced a line from a other linux box
`hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns`

resolving all my issues.

[Bug 1947455] [NEW] sub sub domain names not properly resolved

2021-10-16 Thread Bram Diederik
Public bug reported:

I have a local lan with a libvirt server and on that a vpn
I have a wildcard sub domain at freedns.afraid.org (sub.hostname.com)
that has a kvm and vpn sub sub domain names. (sub.sub.hostname.com)

If i ping the sub sub hostname outside my local lan i get my external IP
address.
but also if i ping from within my local lan network
dig and nslookup do a resolve to my local ip.
But ping and applications like openvpn and libvirt cant connect to the local
application.

I worked around it by registering two sub domains at freedns.afraid.org
those are resolved correctly to the local IP address.

No logs due to privacy.

But in message 8 you can still see the link so you can see/follow the

Same issue here, on 12.04.5 LTS

even after Joseph's instructions (install -f, clean, and update), I
still get this:

[Bug 974963] Re: [soundnua]: hdmi audio missing in sound settings

2012-11-25 Thread Diederik
I have a similar hardware setup, and the same problem. When my HDMI TV
goes on standby or of, the E350 integreated graphics card's HDMI sound
out is no longer listed as a audio device under sound settings.

My workaround is to log out and back in again. Unpluging the HDMLI and
plugging it in again also brings the sound back to life.

Restarting pulse does not work for me, neither does it help to send
noise to the HDMI port. I see Beltrachi says it works for him, though
that was from bringing the machine up again from suspension. My PC
stays on.

I am using Ubuntu 12.04 with unity.

Attached is the output of also-info.sh when the sound works. The sound
not working case, will fillow shortly.

Moved yesterday from 11.10 to 12.10 Beta (clean install), and
experienced this bug too. I can confirm that this affects the hplip
toolbox, but also Spyder (which is a python IDE).

The work-around in comment #5 is all that is needed to get spyder to run
properly:

LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 spyder

So I'm happy for now. Thank you all for all the comments here, this is
invaluable when one runs into issues like these!

[Bug 1041567] [NEW] Connecting to server discards custom port when changing Type

2012-08-25 Thread Diederik
Public bug reported:

(This is a small usability issue.)

When I use the "Connect to Server" dialog in Nautilus I fill in the
dialog from top down. My FTP server is on a custom port. I now have my
IP addres and custom port filled in.

When I change the drop down from "Public FTP" to "FTP (with login)", as
the server requires log in, the dialog discards my custom port but keeps
my IP address.

This is a frustrting little paper cut that I encounter quite often.

I think the dropdown change should not discard a custom port, if the
user entered one. Another solution could be changing the "type" drop
down to the first line of the dialog.

Been having this problem for years on my Shuttle SN78SH7 too (this model
has a nVidia GeForce 8200 chipset). In my setup just adding "noapic" to
the kernel boot option solves the problem.

BTW, I'm running Fedora 15 with kernel 2.6.42.3-2.fc15.x86_64, so this
is not Ubuntu specific. Also, I'm managing thee Ubuntu PCs at work, so I
guess this entitles me to post here too;-) ?

[Bug 681401] [NEW] Grub2 boots into menu with single OS when no keyboard is attached

2010-11-25 Thread Diederik van Liere
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

I have two identical Maverick (10.10) servers, both have no keyboard and
no monitor. If I turn on the computer and there is no keyboard attached
than grub2 will boot into the menu instead of loading Maverick (there
are no other OS'es installed). This is a bit frustrating because I have
to connect a keyboard, attach it, and press enter just to start booting.

The only error message I see (and I am not sure if this is related) is
that it says ureadahead main process 378 exited with status 5 but that's
after pressing enter and booting maverick.

[Bug 488247] Re: Inkscape 0.47 is slow starting

Two things slow down Inkscape while it's starting up:
1) it's building a list of fonts: using a font manager to reduce the number of
fonts might help
2) it's rendering its own icons: improvements are planned

[Bug 347315] Re: Cannot set the maximum value in color selection

2009-03-23 Thread Diederik van Lierop
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 257685 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/257685

There are a few things you can do if you find this annoying:
- wait for v0.47 to be released
- use a nightly build; however, these are not available for Gentoo AFAIK, so
you would have to compile your own build
- downgrade GTK
I guess none of these is very attractive, but please don't shoot the messenger
;-)

Thanks for reporting though!
