Dinh-Tuan Pham, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
 are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/

In fact, I have found out that this bug is caused by the interaction
between network-manager and wicd. In earlier version of kubuntu,
network-manager is not convivial, or at least I can't figure out
howto start wifi with it. Therefore I have installed wicd and
supressed network manager (since I don't need it). Updating to
natty, i forgot to suppress network-manager (which is installed by
default). Wicd no longer works and I recently found out that
network-manager has prevented wicd to make wifi connection
(because removing it solve the problem). However, I found that
this recent version of network-manager is sufficiently convivial and
usable, while wifi is somewhat slow to get the wifi connection.
Therefore I have reverted to network-manager (since oneric)

In short, network-manager excludes wicd. Is this a bug (or a feature ?)
of one of them ?

I am sorry not to provide this information earlier. I though this bug
has been abandonned.

[Bug 783443] Re: Intel Ultimate N 5300 WiFi link does' nt allow connection (natty)

2011-09-13 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Why no one handles this bugs. It is a critical bug for me: laptop without wifi,
unaceptable.
I may have no choice but to abandon kubuntu.

By the way, it may not be a bug of linux ? Downgrade to
linux-image-2.6.35-30-generic
and linux-firmware _1.38.6, which are present in mavarick, _does not solve this
bug_,
while there is no such bug under maverick.

So the bug is due to some change from (kubuntu) maverick to (kubuntu) naatty,
but what
change ? I just wonder if other distro has this bug ? This would confirm that
this is a
(kubuntu) natty bug

PLEASE, PLEASE correct this bug.

[Bug 783443] [NEW] Intel Ultimate N 5300 WiFi link does' nt allow connection (natty)

2011-05-16 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Upgradting to natty, my wireless suddenly cease to work.
The card is an Intel Ultimate N 5300 WiFi link. With wicd, I can see
all the wireless spot. However, when I try to connect to my ISP,
I get after a very long wait, this message: wrong password, or
caannot get IP address?

In fact, looking at the dmesg lines, I saw
This is not a problem of wrong password (I have checked it ery carefully)I
or that of my ISP (I am able to connect under maverick).

This bug (#475800) is indeed similar to mine. However, I was never
able to put the scim tray icon on the taskbar panel. If in the scim
set-up menu, I select always on the item panel/GTK/toolbar/show,
then I get the small scim icon _on the desktop_ but not on the
taskbar. Again, this icon is lost after logout

Perhaps the difference in behavioir is due to the fact that I am under
Kubuntu 4.4.2 (ant not under gnome)

[Bug 491848] Re: okular always prints single side (on a double side printer)

2010-05-11 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Sorry, there is in fact an option in the printing dialog of okular which
allows double side printing. But this option is rather hiddden (one
has to click twice on the options tab to see it. Okular should default
to double side printing or at least there should be a global preference
to set double-side printing when the printer permits. All other
applications (firefox, thunderbird, openoffice. etc) prints double-side on my
(double-side) printer without any intervention

[Bug 577010] [NEW] the window in the widget-devicenotifier is too narrow

2010-05-07 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: plasma-widgets-workspace

I have a big screen and poor sight, so I would like to have rather big font. So
in the font configuration, I check the force the PPP of font to 120 ppp. Now
when I click on the widget-devicenotifier after plugging in a USB key for
example, the messages in the widget window are truncated and more importantly
the button to unmount this uSB key doesn't appear at all ! Thus I cannot safely
remove such a device
This problem _doesn't appear under KDE 4.3.5_. It appears when I upgrade
my sysyem from Kubuntu 9.10 to Kbuntu 10.4, which has KDE 4.4.2.
The remedy is simple: just make the notification widget window larger or better
yet make it dependent on the true font size

Re: [Bug 483627] Re: kde4 trashes X resources

2010-02-24 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Harald Sitter a écrit :
Sorry, I do not understand a word, could you please explain with more detail
 what exactly the problem is.
 Thanks.

 ** Changed in: kdebase (Ubuntu)
Status: New = Incomplete

Well, in Kubuntu Karmic (and also in previous version) there is a file
called

/etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources

which, at the beginning of each Xsession (or kde session), calls xrdb
which loads
the resources files it finds in the directory /etc/X11/Xresources/

Now, I have several resources files in this directory, in particular the
file
xbase-clients which contains among other my xmacs resources:

XEmacs*font: -*-terminal-medium-*-*-*-*-140-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*
XEmacs*dialog*Background: SeaGreen
XEmacs*dialog*foreground: white
XEmacs*XlwMenu.Background: SeaGreen
XEmacs*XlwMenu.Foreground: white

(this file exists at least in a debian system and I have always kept it)

I can check that these resources have been effectively loaded by
inserting a line

xrdb -q

in the file /etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources, then I can see
the list
of my resources in the file ~/.xsession-errors.

However, after kde4 has started, xrdb -q shows that all these
resources has gone
and kde4 has loaded its own other resources (via one of the applications
launched
by startkde I can see which, this script is too complex for me to
understand)

It should be note that

- before, kde3 allows me to set the resources (xemacs resources)
via /etc/X11/Xresources/ and /etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources.

- After kde4 has started, I can fire

xrdb -merge /etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources

from a terminal window to get my X resources loaded (and merged with
existing
X resources). But this is inconvenient as it requires opening a terminal
window
and typing a command manually. Note that xrdb without the option -merge
would
load new resources and wipe out the existing ones, which is probably what
happens in kde4

- However, if in the configuration panel, the menu look and
feel/fonts, I set the
force the PPP of fonts item to 120 ppp (for ex.) instead of letting it
deactivated,
then kde4 will set the resources

Xft.dpi:120

and _preserve my previous resources_. (this can again be seen by firing
xrdb -q)

The problem lies essentially in the difference between calling xrdb
-merge and
xrdb (or xrdb -load), but the call to xrdb may be buried deep inside
some initializing
process for kde4 !!!

Hope this helps

[Bug 491848] [NEW] okular always prints single side (on a double side printer)

2009-12-03 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: okular

I have a double-side printer, however when I print a document from okular (a
pdf file for ex.)
The print is always single side. This is not a normal behaviour, which wastes
papers and
produces bulky documents.I have thought that this is a problem of printer
configuration,
or of the pdf file, until when I install xpdf and print my pdf file. I get
double side printing.

The problem appears also when printing ps file, and perhaps other type of
ducuments
as well (not checked)

[Bug 485867] [NEW] can't change printer setting in kubuntu karmic

2009-11-20 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

My karmic kubuntu ssystem is connected to several printers via the
LPD/LPR protocol. These printer are listed when I click on the menu
System-Setting/printer-configuration/Server-Setting and check the box
display shared printer and sharing printers

However, there is no way to change the printer-setup. In particular, printing
is always one-sides, while all these printer are full-duplex and normally
do double-side printing, as prevuoissly (in kde3)

Note that normally changing (even adding) printer requires superuser privilege.
But there is no button to become superuser. Hence all printer options are
greyout meaning that it is impossible to change. The oly permissible change
is to define the default printer !

[Bug 483624] [NEW] konsole lose focus

2009-11-16 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

It happens many times but not always that when I launch a application form the
konsole window
or even when I switch window to another application window, I cannot return to
the original konsole
window. It _appears_ that konsole has lost focus, although its window is
hightlighted inddicating that
it has focus, konsole does not receive any keyboard input. It does not response
to, even echo to, what
I type. But konsole is not freezed: minimizing the konsole window and then
restoring it then everything
is OK again.

[Bug 483627] [NEW] kde4 trashes X resources

2009-11-16 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

The kde4 in karmic (and also jaunty) destroys the my Xressourecs set in the file
/etc//X11/Xresources/xbase-clients and are loaded by
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/30x11-common_xresources

Note that the resssources are lost during the execution of the script startkde.
They can be
restored by issuing by hand after kde has started the command

xrdb -merge /etc//X11/Xresources/xbase-clients

Curiously, the X ressources are preserved if one has checked in the control
panel the item
force the PPP of fonts, which sets the Xft.dpi ressource. Of course when KDE
set the
Xft.dpi, it would not destrpy it. By why it destrys other resources (my XEmacs
ressources in
particular) when the Xft.dpi ressource is not set ?

[Bug 483642] [NEW] scim: no docking applet ?

2009-11-16 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: scim

In kubuntu Jaunty, after I install and set up scim, there appears a small icon
(applet) in the taskbar, which let me chose the input language and indicate
that chosen language. In Kubuntu Karmic no uch icon ever appears
although scim can be invoked by Ctr-space. Not sure if this is a bug in scim

I fact wireless is working but the port is now eth1 instead of the customary
wlan0. It is why
wicd does't seen any wireless network becasue it has been setup to look at
wlan0. Changing
the preferecen to look at eth1 solves the problem.

[Bug 480752] [NEW] no broadcom sta wireless driver in karmic ?

2009-11-11 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
Public bug reported:

upgrading my system from Jaunty to karmic, suddenly I have no wireless
connection.
lspci show

0c:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g
(rev 01)

which indicates that I have a BCM4312 chip. Booting with Jaunty, I see that the
module
wl is load which pressumably handle the chip. Under karmic, no module wl is
found,
the module b43 and ssb are loaded instead. But it doesn't work. Note also that
I don't
see any firmware blob related to b43 (as in the past b43 needs some firmware
to. run)
The hardware driver menu also indicates that no proprietary driver is present
in the
system.

[Bug 480752] Re: no broadcom sta wireless driver in karmic ?

2009-11-11 Thread Dinh-Tuan Pham
In fact harware driver shows nothing because my laptop is not connected to the
internet (well without wireless, it is a problem). But when I can connect to the
internet, hardware driver indeed indicate that there is a propriety broadcom
STA
driver and permit to download the wl module. But _still no wireless connection_
!
Reverting to the b43 module dosen't help either.
